For most Steam PC players, the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED is the most versatile starting point: it combines low-profile mechanical switches with LIGHTSPEED wireless, Bluetooth and a wired connection. Choose the tenkeyless G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL if you do not need a number pad. Enthusiasts who want to change switches and tune a compact layout should look at the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% or Keychron K2 HE. Steam Deck and other handheld owners have a different priority: a compact Bluetooth keyboard such as the Razer Joro leaves the device’s USB port free, but does not provide a dedicated 2.4 GHz receiver connection.
Those recommendations depend on where you play, how much desk space you have, and whether you value low-profile keys, conventional mechanical switches, or Hall effect adjustment. The guide below separates those decisions so you can match a keyboard to your Steam setup rather than buying on brand or polling-rate numbers alone.

Choose the right type of Steam setup
Desktop Steam gaming with a permanent keyboard
A desktop lets you use a receiver, keep a charging cable nearby and choose any layout. A 2.4 GHz receiver is the gaming-focused wireless option among the models above, while Bluetooth is useful when the same keyboard must switch to another computer, tablet or handheld. If you want a fallback for troubleshooting or a setup that never depends on a battery, a model with USB data mode is useful.

The full-size G915 X LIGHTSPEED retains a number pad for spreadsheets, simulations and games that bind many numeric keys. Its low-profile design is a different feel from a conventional tall mechanical board, so it is best chosen deliberately rather than assumed to be faster. Logitech describes its three connection choices this way: “With tri-mode connectivity, you decide how you want to connect. Enjoy lag-free LIGHTSPEED wireless, connect via Bluetooth®, or use the included data cable for a wired connection.” That is vendor copy, not an independent latency test.
Competitive play with limited mouse space
Removing the number pad gives the mouse more lateral room. The G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL is the straightforward choice if you want the same tri-mode idea and low-profile character in a tenkeyless footprint. A 75% board is shorter again while retaining a dedicated function row and common navigation keys, although the exact arrangement differs by model and keycap set.
Do not select a polling-rate number in isolation. Razer lists up to 4,000 Hz for the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75%, and the Q1 HE 8K name refers to an 8K revision, but GamesRadar notes that most casual players are unlikely to benefit from very high polling rates. Your game, system, display and personal sensitivity matter more than a headline specification that has no independent result attached to it.

Enthusiast building and tuning
If changing switches is central to the purchase, the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% is the clearest match in this group because its sockets are hot-swappable. You can experiment with compatible switches without desoldering the board. Its command dial and OLED add physical controls and status information, while the included wrist rest and PBT keycaps address everyday comfort and wear.
The Keychron K2 HE takes a different enthusiast route with Hall effect switches. Magnetic sensing can support adjustable actuation and related software features, but those features are not identical across every Hall effect keyboard. Confirm the supported adjustments and profiles for the exact K2 HE revision before assuming it can reproduce another model’s behavior.
Steam Deck or another handheld PC
Handheld use changes the connection trade-off. A USB receiver consumes a port or requires an adapter, which may be inconvenient while the handheld is charging or connected to a dock. GamesRadar presents the Razer Joro as a portable handheld-PC keyboard that uses Bluetooth and does not include a 2.4 GHz receiver. That makes it a practical portability option, not a universal replacement for a receiver-based gaming keyboard: Bluetooth is the only wireless mode identified for this use case.
What each recommended keyboard is actually good at
Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED: flexible low-profile desktop choice
The G915 X LIGHTSPEED is built around a low-profile GL mechanical switch with a documented 1.3 mm actuation point. Low-profile keys reduce the height and travel character compared with conventional mechanical designs; whether that feels comfortable depends on your typing habits and preference for a flatter board.

Its three connection methods let you keep a LIGHTSPEED receiver for the main gaming computer, pair over Bluetooth with another device, or plug in the included data cable. KEYCONTROL adds programmable functions beyond the printed key legends, which is useful for macros, application shortcuts or game-specific commands. The presence of a programmable layer does not mean every game benefits from using one; competitive titles may restrict or discourage complex macros, so check the game’s rules.
The full-size layout is the main reason to choose this model over the TKL version. It preserves the number pad and the spacing that office and productivity users expect, but it occupies more horizontal desk space.
Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL: the same concept without the number pad
The TKL model keeps the low-profile mechanical approach, tri-mode connectivity and 1.3 mm actuation point while removing the dedicated number pad. Logitech’s UK product page says KEYCONTROL can provide up to 15 functions per key. That figure describes the software’s documented capability, not 15 separate physical keys or a guarantee that every application will recognize every layer.
The same UK listing specifies double-shot PBT keycaps and an aluminum top plate. Those details apply to the configuration shown on that regional page; check the matching layout, language and included accessories for your market before ordering. The TKL footprint is a good compromise when mouse clearance matters but you still use dedicated navigation and function keys.

Razer positions this board as a 75% keyboard with Gen-3 tactile mechanical switches. The 75% arrangement keeps a function row and navigation cluster in a compact frame, but it does not include a number pad. Razer lists hot-swap support, so compatible replacement switches can be installed without soldering.
HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz is the receiver-based mode, Bluetooth 5.1 handles compatible devices, and USB-C provides a wired connection. A command dial and OLED display put controls and information on the board itself rather than requiring a software window. PBT keycaps and a wrist rest are also listed in the technical specifications.
Razer specifies wireless polling up to 4,000 Hz. Treat that as a ceiling in the product specification, not proof of lower in-game latency or a visible improvement on your system. Razer’s page also carries an “Editor’s Choice” gold-standard blurb attributed to CGM; it is an award statement on the product page, not a named independent review quote.

Keychron K2 HE: 75% Hall effect alternative
PC Gamer describes the K2 HE as a 75% wireless Hall effect keyboard with both Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz modes. Hall effect switches use magnetic sensing rather than a conventional electrical contact, enabling a different approach to actuation adjustment and rapid-trigger-style settings where the software supports them.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThat technology is the reason to choose the K2 HE, not merely its wireless label. Read the configuration documentation for the exact board to verify which actuation controls, profiles and operating-system tools are available. A Hall effect keyboard is not automatically equivalent to another magnetic board, and no universal feature set or performance advantage is established for every Hall effect keyboard.
Razer Joro: compact Bluetooth option for handhelds
The Joro is aimed at portable handheld-PC use. Its Bluetooth-only design avoids carrying or plugging in a 2.4 GHz receiver, which can be valuable on a Steam Deck when one USB-C port is already needed for power or a dock. The compromise is straightforward: there is no dedicated receiver mode identified in the GamesRadar description, so desktop players who specifically want 2.4 GHz should choose one of the other options.
Wireless modes: when to use each connection
2.4 GHz receiver
Use the receiver mode when the keyboard will stay with one gaming PC and you want the connection the manufacturers position for gaming. The Logitech boards call this LIGHTSPEED; the Razer board calls it HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz; the K2 HE is described as having a 2.4 GHz mode. These names are not interchangeable standards, so keep each model’s receiver and software with that keyboard.
- Check where the receiver is stored and whether your case or dock blocks the USB port.
- Pair the receiver before starting a game and keep the wired cable available for firmware or recovery work.
- Do not assume a receiver is included with every SKU or regional package; verify the listing for the exact model.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is the practical choice for switching among a PC, tablet and handheld, and it avoids occupying a port. It is the only wireless mode identified for the Razer Joro. The Logitech and Razer desktop models also list Bluetooth, while the K2 HE is described as supporting Bluetooth alongside 2.4 GHz.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Pairing behavior, saved-device count and shortcut keys vary by model. Follow the keyboard’s manual rather than treating Bluetooth as a universal multi-device implementation.
USB wired mode
A cable removes radio pairing from the troubleshooting path and can keep the board usable if wireless configuration fails. The G915 X LIGHTSPEED, G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL and BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% list wired USB connectivity. The Q1 HE 8K is a separate case: GamesRadar’s review identifies that 8K revision as USB-C wired-only, unlike the original wireless Q1 HE. Do not buy the Q1 HE 8K expecting wireless operation.

Layout choices that affect Steam games
Full-size
A full-size board keeps the number pad, navigation cluster and function row in their familiar positions. It suits players who use numeric key binds, productivity software or a calculator-style pad. The cost is a larger footprint and less room to move a mouse at low sensitivity.
Tenkeyless
TKL removes only the number pad. You retain dedicated navigation and function keys while gaining desk width. The G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL is the model in this guide that explicitly uses this layout.
75%
A 75% board compresses the navigation area while keeping a function row and arrow keys. The BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% and Keychron K2 HE use this compact enthusiast-friendly format. Check key spacing and the position of Delete, Home, End and the arrow cluster if you rely on those keys outside games.
Compact portable boards
Portable models prioritize carrying size and simple connectivity over a complete desktop cluster. The Joro is the handheld-oriented example here. Before buying, confirm that the layout includes the keys your game requires and that you are comfortable using an Fn layer for anything moved or omitted.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Switch technologies and feel
Low-profile mechanical
The Logitech GL switches use a low-profile mechanical format and list a 1.3 mm actuation point. Expect a flatter key height and a different bottom-out and travel sensation from tall conventional mechanical switches. Choose them for the physical feel and reduced profile, not because an actuation number alone predicts better game performance.
Conventional tactile mechanical
The BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% uses Gen-3 tactile mechanical switches. Tactility gives a bump during a key press, which some typists prefer for feedback. Because the board is hot-swappable, you can explore compatible switch options later, subject to socket and switch compatibility.
Hall effect or magnetic
The K2 HE’s Hall effect switches sense magnet position. This makes adjustable actuation a possible software feature and gives enthusiasts a reason to choose it over ordinary contact switches. Verify which controls are implemented in the K2 HE software and whether your preferred game permits the resulting input behavior.
Best Value
- One-Knob Simplicity - A single control knob adjusts backlight brightness and media playback, so you manage lighting and volume without memorizing extra key combos.
- Switch Devices Without Re-Pairing, Zero Lag - Tri-mode connectivity jumps between USB-C, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless, so you can move from PC to laptop to tablet without sacrificing speed.
- Creamy Cushioned Typing Feel, Swap-Ready Anytime - Gasket-mounted construction with 5-layer noise dampening gives a soft, silky, quiet bounce, and the upgraded socket accepts almost any 3-pin or 5-pin switch.
- Vibrant RGB for a True eSports Vibe - Adjustable brightness and lighting modes bring your desk to life, day or night.
- Pro Software for Even Deeper Customization - Design your own lighting effects and program advanced macros with custom keybindings, so the board adapts to how you work or play.
Customization features worth paying attention to
- Programmable layers: KEYCONTROL on the Logitech models can assign additional functions; the TKL page documents up to 15 functions per key.
- Hot-swap sockets: The BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% lets you change compatible switches without soldering.
- Physical controls: The BlackWidow’s command dial and OLED can put volume, lighting or status controls within reach, depending on the configured functions.
- Keycap material: Logitech lists double-shot PBT keycaps for the UK G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL page; Razer lists PBT keycaps for the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75%.
- Software boundaries: A feature being programmable does not make it useful in every game. Check anti-cheat rules, tournament policies and the application’s ability to recognize layers before building complex macros.
Set up a wireless keyboard for Steam
- Confirm the exact SKU and layout. Match the regional listing, language, key arrangement and included receiver to your desk and operating system.
- Charge or connect the board. Use the supplied cable for initial setup if the keyboard requires power or firmware work.
- Choose one primary connection. Plug in the Logitech LIGHTSPEED or Razer HyperSpeed receiver for a desktop gaming PC, select Bluetooth for a device-switching setup, or use USB when you want a wired path.
- Install the manufacturer’s configuration software only when needed. Use it to assign KEYCONTROL functions, manage profiles, adjust supported Hall effect settings or configure the Razer dial and OLED.
- Test in a text editor before launching Steam. Check every frequently used key, the function layer, arrow cluster and media controls.
- Configure the Steam game itself. Open the game’s control settings, bind the keys you actually use and save a per-game profile when available.
- Keep a recovery path. Store the cable and receiver together, and know how to switch back to Bluetooth or USB if the chosen wireless connection is unavailable.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Confusing the Q1 HE and Q1 HE 8K
The original Q1 HE is described as wireless, while GamesRadar identifies the Q1 HE 8K revision as USB-C wired-only. Read the full model name and connectivity specification; “8K” is not a wireless feature.
Assuming all 75% boards feel or program alike
Both the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% and K2 HE use a 75% layout, but one uses tactile mechanical switches and the other Hall effect technology. Their software, key spacing, switch behavior and available adjustments are not interchangeable.
Buying a receiver keyboard for a port-limited handheld
A receiver can be inconvenient when a Steam Deck’s USB-C port is occupied. If preserving that port is the priority, choose a Bluetooth model such as the Joro or use a dock; do not expect the Joro to provide the dedicated 2.4 GHz mode listed for the desktop-oriented alternatives.
Treating polling rate as a guaranteed advantage
Manufacturer polling figures describe capability under supported conditions. The available evidence does not show that 4,000 Hz or 8K polling produces a noticeable improvement for every player, so prioritize layout, switch feel, connection reliability and software support first.
Relying on stale prices
Promotional prices, stock and regional listings change. No current prices or Amazon availability are stated for these models; check the exact target-market listing immediately before purchase, including whether the receiver, cable, wrist rest and regional keycaps are included.
Which one should you buy?
Choose the Logitech G915 X LIGHTSPEED when you need a full-size board and want low-profile keys plus three connection methods. Choose the G915 X LIGHTSPEED TKL when the number pad is expendable but you still want that low-profile, tri-mode format and the documented KEYCONTROL layers.
Choose the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% if switch swapping, a command dial, an OLED and tactile conventional mechanics matter more than the thinnest profile. Choose the Keychron K2 HE if Hall effect experimentation is the deciding feature and you are prepared to verify its exact software controls.
