Best Wireless Headset Alternatives to the PlayStation Pulse Elite (2026)

For most PS5 players, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless Gen 2 is the closest practical alternative to the PULSE Elite because it combines a PS5 USB-C wireless connection with simultaneous Bluetooth phone audio and a 50+ hour rated battery. Choose the Audeze Maxwell 2 if planar-driver hardware and very long battery life matter more than price, or the Logitech G ASTRO A50 X if one headset must switch between PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac through a base station.

These are different fits, not laboratory-tested rankings. The specifications below come from manufacturers or PlayStation Direct, and battery figures are “up to” or “50+” claims rather than independent measurements. Confirm the exact regional model, current price and stock before ordering.

What the PULSE Elite baseline includes

Sony’s PULSE Elite establishes a useful checklist for an alternative. It uses planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link wireless, Bluetooth, a retractable microphone and an included charging hanger. Sony rates it for up to 30 hours of battery life and says a 10-minute charge can provide up to two hours. The included PlayStation Link USB adapter works with PS5, PC and Mac. See the current specifications on Sony’s PULSE Elite product page.

The important detail is not simply that a headset “has Bluetooth.” On PS5, Bluetooth support may be intended for a phone while game audio travels through a USB transmitter or another connection. A headset can also require switching between sources instead of mixing them. Treat simultaneous game-and-phone audio, the console connection, microphone behavior and battery rating as separate checks.

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless Gen 2: the dual-audio choice

The Nova 7P Gen 2 is the most direct fit for a player who wants PS5 game sound while keeping a phone connected. SteelSeries documents a 2.4 GHz USB-C dongle for game audio and simultaneous Bluetooth mobile audio, so the connection design addresses the two-device use case that attracts many PULSE Elite buyers. Its rated battery life is 50+ hours, and SteelSeries says a 15-minute charge provides six hours of use. Full details are on the official product page.

What this means in a PS5 setup

  1. Plug the supplied USB-C wireless dongle into the PS5. If your console location makes USB-C inconvenient, check whether the package or your chosen configuration provides a suitable extension or adapter before buying.
  2. Pair the headset with the dongle for low-latency game audio.
  3. Pair a phone over Bluetooth separately.
  4. Test a game, a phone call and the microphone independently. The product documentation establishes simultaneous game and mobile audio, but it does not establish identical call controls or mixing behavior for every phone and app.

Do not transfer features from older Arctis models to this one. SteelSeries’ general compatibility article lists several older headsets, including Arctis 7P, but that list is not evidence for every Nova 7P Gen 2 feature. Use the model-specific page for this generation.

Who should choose it

  • Players who take calls or listen to mobile audio without abandoning PS5 sound.
  • Users who prefer a compact USB-C transmitter over a desk base station.
  • Anyone who values a longer rated battery than the PULSE Elite’s 30-hour figure.

Sonar AI functionality mentioned by SteelSeries is designated for PC in the product information, so do not buy this model expecting every software feature to run on PS5.

Audeze Maxwell 2: premium planar-driver alternative

PlayStation Direct lists the Audeze Maxwell 2 as compatible with PlayStation, Mac, PC and Switch, with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It lists 80+ hours of low-latency wireless gameplay. That is the longest stated wireless-gameplay rating among the products with a documented figure in this shortlist. Consult PlayStation Direct’s product listing for the current specification and regional availability.

Why the driver description matters—and what it does not prove

Both PULSE Elite and Maxwell 2 are described with planar magnetic driver technology. That identifies a hardware approach, not a guaranteed sound-quality ranking. No controlled listening, comfort, microphone or latency comparison is established here, so planar construction should be treated as a feature preference rather than proof that one headset sounds better.

Check the phone-audio requirement carefully

Maxwell 2’s Bluetooth support does not prove that PS5 game audio and phone audio can be mixed simultaneously. If that is your deciding requirement, ask the seller or manufacturer for explicit dual-device behavior for the exact PlayStation model. Otherwise, plan on using Bluetooth and the console connection as selectable sources rather than assuming a PULSE Elite-style mix.

Best fit

Choose Maxwell 2 when the 80+ hour rated runtime, PlayStation-and-computer compatibility and planar-driver design justify a premium purchase. It is less suitable when your primary reason for replacing the PULSE Elite is confirmed simultaneous phone and PS5 audio.

Logitech G ASTRO A50 X: one base for three platforms

The ASTRO A50 X is aimed at a different problem: moving between PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac without maintaining separate headset systems. Logitech documents PLAYSYNC switching for those platforms. Its PS5 arrangement uses HDMI 2.1 and supports 4K/120 Hz passthrough, game/chat mixing and 3D Audio. See the Logitech G product page; it is a UK-region page, so verify the local package and pricing.

What the base-station installation involves

  1. Place the A50 X base where the console, display and other platform connections can reach it.
  2. Connect the PS5 through the documented HDMI 2.1 path rather than treating the headset as a simple USB accessory.
  3. Connect the other supported systems according to the base’s labeled inputs.
  4. Verify that the display still reports the intended resolution and refresh rate, especially if you use 4K at 120 Hz.
  5. Use PLAYSYNC to move between systems, then test game audio, chat mixing and 3D Audio on each platform.

This design can reduce cable swapping for a multi-console household, but it adds HDMI passthrough decisions and more opportunities for a signal or display-setting problem than a single USB dongle. It is excessive for a PS5-only desk unless the base’s switching function solves a specific problem.

Razer BlackShark V2 Pro for PlayStation and Xbox: wireless console plus PC dongle

Razer’s product page describes a BlackShark V2 Pro edition for PlayStation and Xbox and says the wireless headset can be used on PC through its included USB wireless dongle. Read the exact technical specifications for the SKU sold in your region.

The model name matters because Razer also sells a wired BlackShark V2 X. Do not assume that a similarly named wired product has the same transmitter, console support or microphone behavior. The available product information does not establish simultaneous PS5-and-phone mixing, a battery figure for this comparison, or a universal setup across every regional edition.

Other models appearing in current 2026 comparisons

A September 2026 US comparison guide also lists HyperX Cloud III S Wireless, Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 3, Sony INZONE H9 II and the wired Turtle Beach Atlas 200. Those names broaden the shopping list, but the guide’s prices are US list or MSRP references checked at that time, not guaranteed checkout prices. Its battery figures are manufacturer “up to” ratings, not measurements by the guide. Use the comparison guide as a starting point, then confirm each model’s current console edition, connection path and price with the manufacturer or retailer.

How PS5 wireless compatibility actually works

PlayStation’s PS5 Ultimate FAQ says third-party wireless headsets that use ordinary Bluetooth are not supported as normal direct PS5 headset connections. It says most USB and analog headsets are supported, including models connecting through 3.5 mm, USB-A or USB-C, and that those connections can support PS5 3D Audio. The FAQ is an older platform document, so model-specific support information should take priority when available.

Connection types to identify before purchase

  • USB wireless transmitter: the headset communicates with a dedicated dongle, usually the simplest wireless route for PS5 game audio.
  • PlayStation Link: Sony’s proprietary wireless path, used by PULSE Elite and its supplied adapter.
  • HDMI/base station: a system such as ASTRO A50 X places switching and passthrough hardware between the console and display.
  • 3.5 mm analog: a wired fallback through the DualSense controller, with no wireless battery requirement.
  • Bluetooth alone: do not assume it will operate as a direct PS5 game-audio connection.

SteelSeries’ compatibility page confirms PS5 wireless USB support for several Arctis models and notes PS5 3D Audio support, but its older model list should not be used to infer specifications for newer generations.

Choose by the feature that matters most

You need phone and PS5 audio together

Start with Nova 7P Gen 2 because SteelSeries explicitly documents 2.4 GHz game audio mixed with Bluetooth mobile audio. PULSE Elite also documents simultaneous PlayStation Link and Bluetooth audio, so the Nova 7P Gen 2 is an alternative on this specific capability rather than a guarantee of superior sound or comfort.

You want the longest stated battery rating

Maxwell 2 has the highest listed figure at 80+ hours of low-latency wireless gameplay. Nova 7P Gen 2 lists 50+ hours. PULSE Elite lists up to 30 hours. These numbers come from different manufacturers and conditions, so they should guide expectations, not serve as a controlled cross-brand test.

You switch among PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac

ASTRO A50 X is the only shortlisted model with a documented PLAYSYNC base designed for PS5, Xbox and PC/Mac switching. Its HDMI 2.1 and passthrough requirements make the setup more involved, but they address a multi-platform problem that a PS5 USB dongle does not.

You want wireless console use and a PC transmitter

The BlackShark V2 Pro for PlayStation and Xbox is documented for wireless console use and PC operation through its included USB wireless dongle. Confirm the exact platform edition before purchase, particularly if a listing uses a shortened product name.

Battery and charging: how to read the claims

Model Published battery statement Charging statement
PULSE Elite Up to 30 hours Up to two hours from a 10-minute charge
Arctis Nova 7P Wireless Gen 2 50+ hours Six hours from a 15-minute charge
Audeze Maxwell 2 80+ hours of low-latency wireless gameplay Charging duration not included in the cited specification

These are attributed product specifications. Actual runtime changes with volume, microphone use, wireless mode, lighting and other settings, and no independent battery test is available for this comparison. Fast-charge statements are also manufacturer ratings, so treat them as a convenience estimate rather than a guaranteed number of minutes in every situation.

A practical buying and setup checklist

  1. Identify the exact platform edition. Look for “7P,” “for PlayStation,” or another explicit console designation instead of relying on a family name.
  2. Find the PS5 game-audio path. It should name PlayStation Link, a supplied USB transmitter, HDMI/base-station wiring or a 3.5 mm cable.
  3. Separate Bluetooth from console compatibility. Bluetooth may be phone-only or may require source switching.
  4. Confirm simultaneous behavior. Look for explicit language about mixing game and mobile audio; do not infer it from a Bluetooth logo.
  5. Check chat and microphone operation. Test party chat, a phone call and in-game voice separately after pairing.
  6. Match the battery claim to your routine. Compare the manufacturer’s rating and fast-charge statement, while allowing for real-world variation.
  7. Audit the physical installation. A USB dongle is usually simpler; an HDMI base station needs accessible ports and display verification.
  8. Check regional listing details. Prices, stock, included cables and even platform bundles can differ by country. The ASTRO A50 X page cited here is UK-region, while the Maxwell 2 listing is US PlayStation Direct.

Common mistakes and fixes

Buying a Bluetooth-only headset for direct PS5 audio

Ordinary Bluetooth is not the normal direct PS5 headset path according to PlayStation’s FAQ. Use a supported USB, PlayStation Link or analog connection, or choose a base station that explicitly supports PS5.

Assuming every similarly named model is equivalent

Generational and platform suffixes can change the transmitter, console support and software features. Compare the exact product page, not only the family name or a retailer’s abbreviated title.

Expecting a battery number to be a measured guarantee

“Up to” and “50+” figures are published ratings. Keep the charger accessible and use fast-charge claims as approximate planning information.

Installing an HDMI base without checking display settings

After connecting an A50 X, verify that the PS5 and display still negotiate the desired 4K/120 Hz mode and that game/chat mixing and 3D Audio work. If the picture is wrong, temporarily bypass the base to isolate the HDMI path before changing console settings.

What is not established by these specifications

There is no controlled comparison here of sound signature, comfort, microphone clarity, wireless latency, durability or actual battery duration. Driver type, a long battery rating or a manufacturer feature list cannot by itself establish that one headset is objectively better sounding or more comfortable. Use those specifications to narrow the field, then check current independent testing or a retailer’s return policy if those qualities determine your purchase.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
