For most PC and PlayStation players, SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds are the best all-around wireless gaming earbuds. They combine a dedicated 2.4GHz link for low-delay game audio, Bluetooth 5.3 for phones, active noise cancellation, transparency mode, and a rated 10 hours per charge (40 hours including the case). Buy the separate Xbox edition if you play on Xbox.
Xbox-focused buyers should shortlist Razer Hammerhead HyperSpeed, while PC and PS5 players who want a specifically documented low-latency USB connection should consider Sony INZONE Buds. ASUS ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova is a flexible dual-mode alternative. The key buying decision is not the brand name: it is whether the package includes a compatible USB 2.4GHz transceiver for your platform.

Why a 2.4GHz dongle is usually better for gaming
Wireless earbuds can use ordinary Bluetooth or a purpose-built 2.4GHz USB connection. For games, the USB route is normally preferable because the transceiver is designed to keep audio delay low and maintain a direct link with the console or computer. RTINGS identifies USB-C wireless dongles as the low-latency route for PC, PlayStation and Xbox gaming. PC Gamer likewise describes a dedicated gaming mode or dongle as a way to reduce delay compared with ordinary Bluetooth.

What latency feels like
Latency is the time between an event in the game and the sound reaching your ears. In a slow strategy game, a small delay may be tolerable. In a rhythm game, competitive shooter or racing game, delayed gunshots, hit sounds or engine notes can make timing feel wrong. A 2.4GHz link does not guarantee perfect performance—interference, USB placement, firmware and console settings still matter—but it removes the main limitation of many standard Bluetooth modes.
When Bluetooth still makes sense
Bluetooth is useful for music, calls and handheld use because phones and tablets already support it. It also avoids occupying a USB port. The trade-off is that a regular Bluetooth profile may introduce more delay, and some consoles do not support Bluetooth audio directly. Use Bluetooth for noncompetitive listening or when the device has no suitable USB audio path; use the included transceiver for game audio whenever possible.
Console and PC compatibility: check the edition, not just the product name
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
For PS5, connect the earbuds’ USB transceiver to the console and select the dongle as the output device if the console does not switch automatically. Sony INZONE Buds include a transceiver with a position for PS5/MOBILE, while Sony’s documentation also specifies a PC position. SteelSeries’ PlayStation GameBuds are documented for PlayStation and PC through a single-mode connection. Razer lists both PS5 and PS4 compatibility for Hammerhead HyperSpeed when the appropriate USB connection is used.
Do not assume that an Xbox-labeled edition will work identically on PlayStation. SteelSeries sells separate PlayStation and Xbox GameBuds, so select the edition printed for your console. For any product, inspect the box or current product page for a PS5/PS4 compatibility statement before checkout.
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
Xbox support is more restrictive than PC support because the console controls which wireless USB devices it accepts. Razer lists Hammerhead HyperSpeed compatibility with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, in addition to PlayStation and computers. SteelSeries requires the Xbox edition of GameBuds for Xbox use; the PlayStation model is not the substitute. Confirm that the package explicitly says Xbox rather than relying on a retailer title that may combine variants.
Windows PC and Mac
On Windows, plug in the USB-C transceiver directly or use the supplied adapter if your computer has only USB-A. Open the operating system’s sound settings and choose the earbuds as both output and microphone devices. Razer lists PC and Mac support for Hammerhead HyperSpeed. SteelSeries, Sony and ASUS all position their dongle modes for computer use, but the exact app, firmware updater and equalizer support can differ by operating system.
Phones, tablets and handhelds
Bluetooth mode is the simplest option for a phone or tablet. Razer also lists handheld compatibility through USB or Bluetooth audio. A USB-C dongle can work on a handheld with a compatible port, but it may block charging or require an adapter. Check the handheld’s USB audio support and the earbuds’ current firmware notes before depending on that setup.

SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds: the strongest general-purpose choice
Arctis GameBuds are the easiest recommendation when one set must cover a gaming PC and a PlayStation. Their feature set includes 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.3, ANC, transparency mode, more than 100 PlayStation audio presets, IP55 protection, and a rated 10 hours per charge with 40 hours available from the case.
The separate editions are the critical detail. Choose the PlayStation version for PlayStation and PC; choose the Xbox version for Xbox. The PlayStation support information describes a single-mode connection, so confirm how you will switch between the dongle and Bluetooth before buying if you expect to use several devices at once.
These are a good fit for players who want environmental awareness as well as isolation. ANC can reduce steady sounds such as a fan or air conditioner, while transparency mode lets you hear a conversation without removing the earbuds. Neither mode replaces a good ear-tip seal, and both can affect battery life, so test the available modes during your first session.
Razer Hammerhead HyperSpeed: the clearest Xbox-oriented alternative
Hammerhead HyperSpeed uses Razer’s 2.4GHz HyperSpeed connection through a USB-C dongle and also supports Bluetooth 5.2. Razer lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC, Mac, smartphones, tablets and handhelds with USB or Bluetooth audio. That broad list makes it attractive to an Xbox owner who also plays on a computer or another console.

Enjoy up to 8 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, with the sleek charging case providing an additional 3 full charges (up to 32 hours total). Inspired by classic gaming aesthetics, the ergonomic in-ear design ensures a secure, comfortable fit for all-day wear.
Razer’s support specifications cite 10mm drivers and up to 15 hours of total battery in a stated Xbox test with lighting and ANC turned off. The qualification matters: lighting and noise cancellation consume power, so your actual interval between charges can be shorter when those features are enabled. Treat the figure as a ceiling from the manufacturer’s test rather than a promise for every game session.
Before ordering, verify that the listing is the Xbox-capable package if Xbox is your main system. Retailer pages sometimes group several Hammerhead variants under one heading, and a visually similar model may not include the required console authorization.
Sony INZONE Buds: a focused PC/PS5 low-latency option
Sony positions INZONE Buds around a supplied USB transceiver. Its help guide specifies a connection to PC and PS5 and identifies a switch position for PC or PS5/MOBILE. Sony’s 2023 press release states: “The INZONE Buds come with a USB-C® dongle connection that provides latency of less than 30ms, meaning there will be nothing to hold you back.” That is Sony’s stated figure, not an independent measurement.
Choose this model when your priority is a clearly documented dedicated link for PC and PS5 rather than broad Xbox coverage. Check the transceiver switch before connecting: the wrong position can leave the console or computer without the expected audio path. Sony’s documentation does not establish every battery, microphone, ear-tip or ANC specification in the material available here, so evaluate those details in the current regional listing.

ASUS ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova: flexible dual-mode coverage
ASUS lists a 2.4GHz USB-C dongle alongside Bluetooth for ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova. That combination lets you keep low-delay audio for a computer or compatible console and reserve Bluetooth for a phone. It is a sensible design for people who move between gaming and everyday listening.
Platform support and inventory can vary by region and revision. Confirm the current console list, included adapters and firmware requirements before purchase, especially if you intend to use a console with USB-A ports or a handheld while charging. The available specifications do not establish a battery total, microphone rating, ANC performance or comfort result, so do not select this model on those criteria without checking the current documentation.

| Decision factor | What to look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Platform edition | Explicit Xbox, PlayStation, PC or cross-platform wording on the exact package | Console USB and wireless authorization differ; a product name alone can hide separate editions. |
| 2.4GHz transceiver | USB-C dongle, plus a USB-A adapter if your ports require one | Provides the low-delay gaming path identified by RTINGS and PC Gamer. |
| Bluetooth mode | Bluetooth version and supported profiles | Useful for phones and tablets, but ordinary Bluetooth can add delay and may not work directly with consoles. |
| Microphone | Look for an explicit mic design, noise-reduction description and console support | The supplied specifications do not establish comparative microphone quality for these models; voice chat performance should be checked in current reviews or a returnable purchase. |
| ANC and transparency | Both modes if you play in noisy rooms or need to hear people nearby | ANC reduces steady background noise; transparency improves awareness. They can change battery endurance. |
| Fit and ear tips | Multiple tip sizes, secure seal and a return policy | A stable seal affects bass, isolation and microphone perception. Comfort is personal and is not established by the supplied specifications. |
| Battery | Separate per-charge and case totals, with test conditions | Manufacturer claims are not directly comparable when lighting, ANC, volume and radio mode differ. |
| Charging | Case connector, cable requirements and whether wireless charging is stated | A case that can be topped up at your desk or console reduces interruptions; do not assume wireless charging unless listed. |
| Companion app | Supported operating system, firmware updates, EQ and preset controls | Apps can add presets and fixes, but support may differ between Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. |

How to set up low-latency earbuds
Windows PC
- Charge the earbuds and case, then install any current firmware or companion application supplied for your model.
- Plug the 2.4GHz USB-C transceiver into the PC. Use the included USB-A adapter or a short extension if the computer has no USB-C port.
- In Windows sound settings, select the transceiver as the output device and the earbuds’ microphone as the input device.
- Launch a game and verify that the audio output remains on the transceiver rather than switching to a monitor, controller or Bluetooth headset.
- Pair Bluetooth separately for phone use; do not use Bluetooth for the game if the dongle is available.
PlayStation 5
- Set the SteelSeries PlayStation edition, Sony INZONE Buds or another PS5-listed model to its PS5 mode if it has a hardware switch.
- Insert the USB transceiver into the PS5. If the console does not switch automatically, open Settings, then Sound, then Audio Output, and select the USB headset.
- Open Microphone settings and select the USB headset input if you want party-chat voice through the earbuds.
- Play a familiar game with directional audio and confirm that left/right channels, chat balance and microphone monitoring behave as expected.
Xbox
- Confirm that you bought an Xbox-capable edition. For GameBuds, that means the Xbox edition; for Hammerhead HyperSpeed, verify the Xbox package wording.
- Connect the supplied transceiver to the Xbox USB port and power on the earbuds.
- Open the console’s audio settings and choose the USB headset for game and chat output when prompted.
- Test party chat with another player. If game audio works but chat does not, check the console’s chat mixer and microphone privacy settings before changing the earbuds.
Fixes for delay, dropouts and missing audio
Audio is noticeably delayed
- Switch from Bluetooth to the 2.4GHz transceiver.
- Check that a gaming mode is enabled if the app provides one.
- Move the dongle away from a crowded USB hub, Wi-Fi router or metal enclosure. A short USB extension can place it closer to your seating position.
- Update firmware for both earbuds and transceiver, then restart the console or computer.
One earbud cuts out
- Recharge both earbuds and clean the charging contacts in the case.
- Keep the transceiver in direct line of sight where practical and remove unnecessary USB devices from the same hub.
- Forget and re-pair Bluetooth only if the problem occurs in Bluetooth mode; pairing changes do not repair a 2.4GHz link.
The console does not recognize the earbuds
- Check the exact edition and regional model number.
- Reconnect the transceiver after the console has fully started.
- Try another USB port and remove an adapter or hub that may not pass USB audio.
- Confirm the product’s current console support; compatibility can change with firmware and hardware revisions.
Voice chat sounds poor
First select the earbuds’ microphone explicitly in the console or computer settings. Then move the microphone opening clear of clothing and avoid covering it with your hand. If game audio is clear but speech remains muffled, the limitation may be the earbuds’ microphone design rather than the wireless link; the supplied specifications do not provide a reliable ranking of microphone quality among these models.
Battery, charging and daily-use expectations
Battery numbers are not directly interchangeable. SteelSeries rates Arctis GameBuds at 10 hours per charge and 40 hours with the case. Razer’s figure is “up to 15 hours total” in an Xbox test with lighting and ANC disabled. The first is a per-charge and case-total claim; the second is a total figure under a specific test condition. Volume, ANC, transparency, lighting, radio mode and temperature all influence runtime.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For long sessions, charge the case whenever you finish playing rather than waiting for the earbuds to reach zero. Keep the contacts dry, store the earbuds in the case and avoid leaving lithium-ion cells fully discharged for extended periods. If a console has only one convenient USB port, decide whether the dongle or charging cable takes priority and keep a short extension or powered charging source available.
Which one should you buy?
- Choose SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds (PlayStation edition) if you mainly use PC and PlayStation and want ANC, transparency, Bluetooth 5.3 and a large set of PlayStation presets in one package.
- Choose SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds (Xbox edition) only when Xbox is your target console; the editions are not interchangeable assumptions.
- Choose Razer Hammerhead HyperSpeed if Xbox is central and you also need the listed PC, PlayStation, Mac or handheld compatibility.
- Choose Sony INZONE Buds if you play on PC and PS5 and value Sony’s documented USB-transceiver latency claim of less than 30 ms.
- Choose ASUS ROG Cetra True Wireless SpeedNova if dual 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connectivity is the deciding feature, after confirming current console support and stock.
Whichever model you select, buy the exact platform edition, use the USB transceiver for games, and treat manufacturer battery or latency figures as conditional claims rather than guarantees of your own results.
