Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a practical starting point, use 30 W Performance while plugged in when performance matters more than fan noise, 15 W Balance for battery-powered general play, and 10 W Quiet when lower noise and power use take priority. Then set resolution and refresh rate for your game and adjust its graphics settings. There is no single best preset for every game or Legion Go S configuration.
Start by updating the Windows Legion Go S
Before comparing settings, check for device updates in Legion Space. Lenovo’s Windows user guide directs owners to open Legion Space > Settings and check for available driver and BIOS updates. Use the update route for your exact device; do not install drivers intended for a different Legion Go model. App labels and menus may change with updates.

Choose a thermal mode for your session
Legion Space’s thermal modes control the device’s TDP. Lenovo documents these modes and describes when to use them; the wattages are available settings, not independently measured guarantees of game performance.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match| Mode | When to start with it | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 30 W Performance | Plugged in, when you prioritize performance | Lenovo notes that fan noise can be higher. |
| 15 W Balance | Battery use and switching among tasks | Lenovo recommends it for battery operation and mixed tasks. |
| 10 W Quiet | When quieter operation and saving battery matter more | Lower power use is prioritized over maximum output. |
| Custom: 5–40 W | When you want to tune TDP for a particular game or noise preference | Lenovo gives the range, but not one ideal custom value for all games. |
Lenovo recommends Performance when the console is plugged into an electrical outlet and you want “the best performance.” For battery sessions, begin with Balance or Quiet according to your runtime and noise priorities. Change a custom TDP only when a game’s performance, fan noise, or battery use warrants it; compare changes in the same game and scene.

Set Windows power mode separately
Windows power mode and Legion Space thermal mode are separate controls. Lenovo documents Windows power mode at Settings > System > Power & battery, and also provides the control in Legion Space. Available choices include Best performance, Balanced, and Best power efficiency. Lenovo recommends Best performance while plugged in when performance is the goal, and Best power efficiency on battery when saving power. Windows power mode is unavailable while Energy Saver is on.
Choose resolution and refresh rate for the game
To change display resolution, open Settings > System > Display. For refresh rate, open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display. Lenovo also exposes both controls in Legion Space’s Display section.

Higher resolution preserves more image detail but increases rendering workload; lowering it can help a demanding game run more smoothly at the cost of detail. Lenovo describes 60 Hz as adequate for most situations and energy efficient, while higher refresh rates generally make video and games look smoother. The trade-off is smoothness versus energy use. Choose a rate your specific display and game support, and use the game’s render scale or graphics options when you need to balance detail and frame rate.
Check the exact Legion Go S model before relying on a display specification. Lenovo’s 8APU1 specification lists an 8-inch, 1920×1200 display with 48–120 Hz VRR, but that is a separate configuration reference; those figures should not be assumed for every Windows Legion Go S.

Use Windows graphics options only when they apply
Windows 11’s Optimizations for windowed games setting is for compatible DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 games running in windowed or borderless-windowed mode. Find it under Settings > System > Display > Graphics. Microsoft says it can move compatible games to a newer flip-model presentation, reducing frame latency and enabling features such as Auto HDR and variable refresh rate on supported displays. It is optional, not a guaranteed improvement for every game. Restart the game after changing the setting. Auto HDR enables this optimization automatically; Microsoft says to turn Auto HDR off first if you want to disable the optimization.
Tune graphics one game at a time
Start with the game’s recommended or default graphics preset. If performance or stability is not good enough, lower one demanding setting at a time—such as resolution, render scale, or graphics quality—and check the result in the same scene. If the game offers upscaling or frame generation, evaluate it in that title rather than assuming it will suit every game.

- Keep thermal mode, Windows power mode, resolution, and plugged-in or battery state consistent when comparing changes.
- Change one setting at a time so you can tell which adjustment helped.
- Judge both image quality and smoothness; the highest available refresh rate or resolution is not automatically the best experience for a demanding game.
Lenovo’s general Windows gaming advice supports Game Mode and per-game graphics adjustments as starting points, but it does not establish an optimal Legion Go S-specific graphics profile.
Check your configuration before applying hardware advice
The Legion Go S name covers multiple configurations. Lenovo’s 8ARP1 specification lists Windows 11 Home, an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, integrated Radeon graphics, and a microSD card reader. Do not assume a specification from another Legion Go S SKU applies to your unit. Likewise, published performance comparisons between different configurations cannot isolate the effect of Windows settings or operating system when the hardware differs.
