For most Samsung Galaxy owners, the best first choice is Samsung’s built-in widget picker. It already covers practical information and shortcuts such as weather, routines, and email, and Samsung documents resizing, customization, repositioning, removal, stacking, and lock-screen widgets. Choose Good Lock when your priority is Galaxy-specific home-screen, lock-screen, Always On Display, or clock customization. Choose KWGT Kustom Widget Maker when you want to design your own home-screen widget layouts and are willing to spend more time tuning them.

Start with Samsung’s built-in widgets
The built-in picker is the most efficient starting point because it requires no third-party design workflow. Samsung says Galaxy widgets can surface app information and shortcuts, with examples including weather, routines, and email. The available list depends on the apps installed and the software running on your particular phone.
Why built-in widgets are the default recommendation
- Fast setup: Samsung’s documented process starts directly from an empty area of the home screen.
- Useful everyday information: Weather, routines, and email are among Samsung’s examples, so you can check common updates without opening the full app.
- Flexible placement: Supported widgets can be moved, resized, customized, removed, or grouped into stacks.
- Lock-screen support: Samsung documents lock-screen choices such as Battery, Clock, and Reminder. When lock-screen widgets are enabled, Samsung says they also appear on Always On Display.
The picker is not identical on every Galaxy phone. Samsung notes that availability and settings vary by model, carrier, software version, and widget. A feature shown in a One UI presentation is therefore a version-specific capability, not a guarantee that every Galaxy device has it.
How to add a home-screen widget
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Galaxy home screen.
- Choose Widgets.
- Browse the available apps and widget types, then select the widget you want.
- Choose a size or layout when the widget offers more than one option, and place it on the home screen.
- Touch and hold the placed widget to move it, resize it when supported, open its customization controls, remove it, or add it to a stack.
The exact choices shown after placement depend on the widget. Some offer resizing or appearance controls; others expose only the actions supported by their app. If a widget does not show a resize handle or customization menu, that limitation belongs to that widget or software version rather than to the general Galaxy picker.

Samsung documents widget stacks as a way to keep multiple widgets in one home-screen location. A stack is useful when you want, for example, a weather view and a calendar or email view without dedicating separate rows to each. The available stack behavior and editing controls can vary by device and One UI version, so use the options presented when you touch and hold the stack on your phone.
Lock-screen and Always On Display widgets
Samsung’s widget support includes more than the home screen. On supported Galaxy models, Samsung documents lock-screen widgets such as Battery, Clock, and Reminder. Samsung also says that lock-screen widgets appear on Always On Display when Always On Display is enabled.

What this means in practice
- Lock-screen widgets are a Samsung software capability, not a promise that every third-party widget app can occupy the same area.
- The list of available lock-screen widgets can differ from the home-screen picker.
- Always On Display behavior depends on the phone’s support and settings; a lock-screen widget does not automatically prove that every Galaxy model will show it there.
- One UI version, carrier configuration, region, and model can change which controls are exposed.
To configure this area, open your phone’s lock-screen customization controls and select from the widgets offered there. Samsung’s own support documentation should take priority over instructions written for a different Galaxy generation, because the labels and available settings can change.
Samsung Good Lock: best for Galaxy-specific customization
Good Lock is a Samsung customization suite rather than a general-purpose widget catalog. Samsung Electronics’ Google Play listing describes it as an app that helps Samsung smartphone users use their smartphones more conveniently. The same listing names modules that change Galaxy interface areas, including lock screens, Always On Display styles, clocks, and One UI Home.
LockStar for lock-screen and Always On Display styles
Samsung lists LockStar for lock-screen and Always On Display styles. This makes Good Lock the more relevant choice when your goal is to change the arrangement or appearance of Samsung’s own lock-screen experience rather than to install a generic home-screen widget. The listing does not establish that every LockStar control appears on every Galaxy phone.
ClockFace for clock styles
ClockFace is the Good Lock module Samsung names for clock styles. It is a targeted choice if the clock is the main element you want to change on the lock screen or Always On Display. It should not be described as a complete replacement for the built-in widget system; it addresses the clock-style portion of the Galaxy interface.
Home Up for One UI Home customization
Home Up is listed for an improved One UI Home experience. It is the Good Lock route to additional Samsung launcher controls, while the standard widget picker remains the place where you add ordinary app widgets.

When Good Lock is the better choice
- You want Samsung-specific controls instead of a free-form widget design canvas.
- Your main target is the lock screen, Always On Display, clock styling, or One UI Home.
- You prefer separate Samsung modules for particular interface areas.
Samsung’s listing warns that some devices may not be supported. Check Good Lock and the individual module availability on your exact phone before planning a layout around a feature shown in another Galaxy model’s tutorial.

KWGT: best for designing your own home-screen widgets
KWGT Kustom Widget Maker is the option for readers who want to construct a widget rather than select from a fixed set. Its Google Play listing describes a visual editor for creating layouts and gives examples such as photo, weather, clock, system-monitor, and music widgets. The listing also describes interactive actions and advanced data features.
What the visual editor changes
With a conventional widget, you choose among layouts and settings supplied by the app. KWGT instead gives you a canvas-like workflow in which you decide what the widget contains and how its elements are arranged. That can produce a compact dashboard, a large clock with weather, a photo panel with controls, or a system-information view tailored to your home-screen grid.
The additional control is also the trade-off. KWGT is not the easiest default if you simply want one weather tile or a clock. You need to spend time choosing a base layout, adjusting elements, checking how the result fits the widget’s size, and refining it after you place it on the home screen.

KWGT’s listing describes home-screen widgets. Do not assume that a KWGT design will work in every Samsung lock-screen or Always On Display widget area; Samsung’s lock-screen system and third-party home-screen widgets are separate capabilities.

Ads, in-app purchases, and the optional Pro Key
The Google Play listing identifies ads and in-app purchases in KWGT and links to a separate KWGT Pro Key listing. It says Pro removes ads and enables importing presets from external storage and skins. That does not mean every user must buy Pro to create a widget. Start with the capabilities available in the base app, then decide whether ad removal or external preset and skin imports justify the optional purchase for your workflow.

Compatibility is the most important qualification in any Galaxy widget recommendation. Samsung warns that widget availability and settings vary with model, carrier, and software version. Samsung’s One UI materials likewise describe feature variation by device, region, carrier, and One UI version. Good Lock adds its own warning that some devices may not be supported.
Check these details before you design a layout
- Galaxy model: A feature available on one series or generation may not appear on another.
- One UI version: Redesigns and styling controls can be tied to a particular software release.
- Carrier and region: Samsung says these can affect availability and settings.
- Target surface: Confirm whether you need the home screen, lock screen, or Always On Display before installing a third-party widget maker.
- Module support: Good Lock may install or expose different modules depending on the device.
The safest process is to inspect your own widget picker and lock-screen customization screen first, then check the current Google Play listing for Good Lock or KWGT on that same phone. Store pages are volatile; the dates above describe the listings reviewed, not a permanent feature guarantee.

Assuming every lock-screen widget appears on Always On Display
Samsung says lock-screen widgets also appear on Always On Display when it is enabled, but the feature remains dependent on the phone and software. Verify the behavior on your model instead of generalizing from another device.
Choosing from download counts
The current KWGT Google Play listing displayed 10M+ downloads when reviewed on October 13, 2026. That is a platform-displayed listing metric, not a dated comparative study and not evidence of quality, compatibility, or superiority. No independently published comparative performance statistic was established for these options, so download totals should not determine your choice.
Assuming Pro is mandatory for KWGT
KWGT’s listing identifies a separate Pro Key with ad removal and external preset and skin imports. Those are optional capabilities described for Pro; the listing does not say that every user must purchase it to make a widget.
A decision path that avoids wasted setup time
- Open the Galaxy widget picker. If it contains the information or shortcut you need, use the built-in widget and adjust its size or placement.
- Decide where the widget must live. For lock-screen or Always On Display goals, start with Samsung’s supported lock-screen controls and consider Good Lock’s listed modules. For a home-screen-only design, KWGT remains an option.
- Choose between interface tuning and free-form design. Pick Good Lock for Samsung-specific controls; pick KWGT when you want to construct the layout itself.
- Verify support on your exact phone. Check the model, carrier, region, and One UI version because Samsung documents variation across all of them.
