Rose Belmont is the only character for whom the published material establishes a playable weapon-and-build system. Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades are important story characters, but they are not identified as alternate build characters. For Rose, the strongest setup depends on the room and boss: Vampire Killer or Valmanway for mobile spacing, Alucard’s Sword and Shield for defense, Excalibur for charged punishment, Bernhard’s Wrath for sustained combos, and Chauve-Souris with offensive Arcana for ranged control.

Who can use weapon builds?
Rose Belmont: the practical build character
Konami’s official character material presents Rose Belmont as the new protagonist. The weapon system, Relic slots and Arcana progression described in the available guides all apply to her. Rose can equip weapons, combine them with up to three Relics and change her Arcana selection as the adventure develops.
Trevor Belmont: narrative context, not a documented loadout
Trevor travels with Rose, but the official material reviewed does not identify him as an alternate playable character with a separate upgrade tree. Do not plan a Trevor-specific weapon path from the currently established information. His presence explains the story and party context rather than adding another build screen.

Sypha Belnades: story character rather than a confirmed build slot
Sypha is described as Rose’s mother. She is not listed as a selectable fighter with her own weapons, Relics or Arcana inventory in the available official material. Any guide that assigns her a separate upgrade route is making an assumption beyond the documented system.
How Belmont’s Curse weapon progression works
Seven weapon families change three attacks
The weapon guide describes seven categories. A weapon is not just a damage number: it changes Rose’s basic moveset, charge attack and grapple attack. That distinction matters when comparing a slow greatsword with a spear or a shield-bearing sword. A weapon that looks weaker on its ordinary strike may be better in a room where its grapple or charged move controls space.
Twenty-eight weapons and four reported attack tiers
Power Up Gaming’s 2026 guide reports 28 weapons spread across the seven families. It lists four attack tiers and their guide-reported attack values:

These numbers are guide values published in 2026, not a promise that every version of the game will retain the same balance. A later patch can alter attack power, scaling or special-move behavior. Treat the tier as a quick comparison, then test the weapon’s charge and grapple attacks in the actual room.
Relics and Arcana add the build layer
Rose can equip up to three Relics. Relics provide offensive or defensive effects, so the best three depend on whether you are preserving health, opening with a spell, attacking from behind or maintaining a combo. Arcana are created from defeated bosses’ tarot cards. Meristation reports more than 15 spells and says Arcana can be upgraded through combat challenges. That gives you a second progression track instead of forcing every improvement into the weapon itself.

Weapon families compared
The table uses the seven named weapon examples reported by the 2026 guide. “Best” means best fit for a job, not universally highest damage.

Why the starting Longsword remains useful
ComicBook.com describes Longswords as the balanced starting family. Their distinctive follow-up occurs after a dash or slide, giving new players a straightforward lesson in movement-cancel timing. Start there if you are still learning enemy patterns; switching immediately to a specialist weapon can hide a timing problem behind raw damage.
How to upgrade a weapon and change a build
The published material establishes the tier system, Relic capacity and Arcana challenges, but it does not publish a complete cost table or a definitive menu-by-menu upgrade path. Use this progression loop without assuming that a specific material, currency or button exists on every platform.
- Choose a job before choosing a weapon. Decide whether the next area demands reach, blocking, combo sustain, a charged punish or ranged control. This prevents you from treating the highest displayed ATK as the only upgrade that matters.
- Equip the weapon and test all three altered actions. Check the normal string, charge attack and grapple attack in a safe encounter. Record which attack starts safely, which one moves Rose, and whether the grapple pulls her toward danger.
- Advance through the available weapon tier. When a Refined, Masterpiece or Legendary version becomes available, compare its reported attack tier with the special-move behavior you already understand. A higher tier is a direct power increase, but a lower-tier weapon with the correct spacing tool can still be the better answer for a boss.
- Fill the three Relic slots around one condition. Use all three slots to support the same plan: opening damage, aerial damage, guard breaking, back attacks, healing or mana management. Mixed effects are useful only when you can trigger each one consistently.
- Assign Arcana to the encounter. Equip a spell that covers the weapon’s weakness. A long-range spear benefits from projectile or elemental control; a close-range gauntlet setup benefits from effects that help it stay active.
- Use one-button build switching between encounters. Meristation reports one-button build switching. Keep a close-range and a ranged preset ready rather than rebuilding every slot in the middle of a stage. Exact button labels can vary by platform, so confirm the binding in the game’s control settings.
- Upgrade Arcana through combat challenges. Boss tarot cards create Arcana, and combat challenges improve them according to the available guide information. Prioritize the spell you actually cast instead of spreading upgrades across every option.
- Re-test after a patch. The attack values below come from a 2026 guide. If a patch changes damage, cooldowns or conditions, judge the new behavior in combat rather than relying on the old tier alone.
Five Rose builds that cover most encounters
1. Mobile spacing: Vampire Killer or Valmanway
Use Vampire Killer when reach is the main problem. Its tip damage rewards standing just outside an enemy’s threat range, while Whip Drag can reposition Rose around enemies that explode on death. Use Valmanway when you need a more forgiving melee plan: its backdash bonus supports hit-and-retreat timing, and the delayed double attack gives patient players extra value.
Build the three Relic slots around damage that follows movement or safe positioning. Do not chase a back attack or a delayed second hit if the room makes that condition unsafe. A projectile or lightning Arcana gives this build an answer when an enemy refuses to approach.

2. Tight-room defense: Alucard’s Sword and Shield
Choose Alucard’s Sword and Shield when enemies attack from a narrow lane or when you are still learning a boss. Block frontal hits, wait for the attack to finish, then use the charged dash to re-engage. The weapon turns defense into a controlled advance instead of requiring a perfect dodge every time.

Pair it with defensive or sustain-oriented Relics. Keep your Arcana for moments when blocking would leave Rose cornered; a spell can clear the lane before you resume the shield rhythm. This is the safest general-purpose choice for rooms where retreat space disappears quickly.
3. Heavy punish: Excalibur
Excalibur is for players who can identify a predictable opening. Charge before a boss commits to a long recovery, release the heavy strike, and use the projectile release when approaching would be unsafe. Its slow startup means that a speculative swing is usually worse than waiting one more attack cycle.
Use Relics that reward damage on an opening, a guard break or a full-health target. Keep Arcana available for movement checks and adds so the greatsword is reserved for the moment it does its best work.
4. Combo sustain: Bernhard’s Wrath
Bernhard’s Wrath turns uninterrupted contact into its own upgrade. Fast consecutive hits build toward ramping damage, and the guide reports healing at high combo levels. Start the string only when you have enough room to remain close. Against an enemy that repeatedly knocks Rose away, a safer weapon can outperform the gauntlets even if the gauntlets have a higher theoretical payoff.

Choose Relics that protect or extend the combo condition. A quick Arcana cast can remove a nearby interruption, but do not spend so much time in menus or spell animations that the string expires. This is the strongest sustain pattern for players who prefer aggressive, rhythm-based play.
5. Ranged control: Chauve-Souris plus Arcana
Chauve-Souris is the clearest ranged-control choice in the documented list. Hold to aim, throw for piercing poke damage, and let the spear thin a line before committing to melee. Combine it with projectile, fire, lightning or petrification Arcana. Meristation specifically notes that a ranged weapon plus suitable magic makes Medusa easier, making this the most directly documented answer for that encounter.
Use Relics that improve spell openings, damage against uninjured enemies or safe aerial attacks, depending on how the room is arranged. Keep a close-range preset available for enemies that cross the gap too quickly.

Equip conditions you can trigger on purpose. For example, Sinister Rune loses its value after the first hit, while Twilight Gem asks you to cast before your damage window. A Relic is only as good as the condition your chosen weapon and route allow you to maintain.

Arcana choices and boss adaptation
Use Arcana to cover, not duplicate, your weapon
Arcana come from defeated bosses’ tarot cards, and the available reporting describes more than 15 spells. The useful question is not which spell has the highest description value; it is what your weapon cannot do. A slow Excalibur needs a way to answer movement and adds. A spear already controls a line, so an elemental or petrification effect can add a second layer of control.
Why Medusa favors a ranged swap build
Meristation’s specific observation is that a ranged weapon combined with suitable magic makes Medusa easier. Use Chauve-Souris to maintain distance, then select projectile, fire, lightning or petrification Arcana according to the resistance and movement pattern you observe. Keep a melee preset ready for the phase in which the boss closes the gap.
Upgrade the Arcana you actually cast
Combat challenges are reported as the route for Arcana upgrades. Concentrate those improvements on one or two reliable spells. A smaller, fully understood spell kit is easier to trigger alongside a three-Relic condition than a large collection of partially upgraded options.
Reported weapon examples and what is not yet confirmed
Destructoid’s location guide, explicitly marked as a work in progress, lists these currently reported examples:

- Confirm which of the seven weapon families solves the next room’s main threat.

- Compare Ordinary, Refined, Masterpiece and Legendary attack values using the 2026 guide numbers only as a dated reference.
- Fill all three Relic slots with conditions you can activate consistently.
- Choose Arcana that covers the weapon’s missing range, crowd control or escape option.
- Maintain at least one close-range and one ranged build for one-button switching.
- Use combat challenges to improve the Arcana you cast most often.
- Recheck behavior after balance updates instead of assuming the reported numbers are unchanged.
Final recommendation for Rose
Start with the Longsword if you need to learn movement timing. Move to Vampire Killer for safe spacing, Alucard’s Sword and Shield for defensive rooms, Excalibur for deliberate boss punishment, Bernhard’s Wrath for sustained combo play, and Chauve-Souris with offensive Arcana when range is the answer. Valmanway is the most adaptable middle ground, while War and Famine is the specialist choice for players who can confirm extended strings.
There is no documented all-purpose build for Trevor or Sypha because the reviewed official material does not establish them as alternate playable loadout characters. Build around Rose, change the weapon when the encounter changes, and treat the 2026 attack figures and Relic percentages as guide-reported values that may be revised by patches.
