Google Lens is the best starting point for most Android shoppers. It can analyze a camera view, saved photo, or screenshot, then show similar products, retailers, prices, reviews, and purchase locations where shopping results are available. Use Circle to Search when the product is already visible on your screen and you do not want to leave the app. Use Amazon Lens when you specifically want candidates from Amazon’s catalog. Whichever tool you use, treat the image match as a lead: verify the exact model, variant, seller, delivery cost, and return terms before paying.
Choose the tool that matches where the image is
The location of the product image determines the quickest workflow. A photo you already took belongs in Google Lens; an item inside a social post, video, browser page, or another app is usually easiest with Circle to Search; and a search limited to Amazon’s inventory starts with Amazon Lens.

If you want a cross-retailer discovery path, begin with Google Lens. If you already know you will buy on Amazon, Amazon Lens removes an extra search step. Circle to Search is primarily a convenience feature for on-screen images, not a separate shopping marketplace.
How to find a product with Google Lens
Search a photo already saved on your phone
- Open Google Photos and select the product photo or screenshot.
- Tap More, then choose Google Lens.
- Review the visual matches and any product, retailer, or shopping panels.
- If the result is too broad, add a descriptive word such as a brand, color, pattern, material, product type, or size.
- Open the retailer listing and verify the identity, variant, total cost, seller, and availability before comparing offers.
Google documents Lens searches for apparel and home goods, including similar products and places to buy them. Lens can also read a barcode when one is visible, which may lead to a more exact product lookup than a photograph of the packaging.

Search something in front of the camera
- Open Lens from a supported Google app or device surface.
- Point the camera at the item and take the picture.
- Move closer or improve the lighting if the object is small, reflective, or partly hidden.
- Inspect the maker information, product details, and shopping options that appear.
- Use a text refinement for the attribute you actually need, such as “brown,” “velvet,” “chair,” or a particular size.
Text refinement changes the question without requiring a new photograph. For example, a picture of a chair can be followed by “brown velvet chair” to reduce results that share only the general shape.
Use Lens when you are already shopping in a store
Google describes in-store shopping features that can show similar-item availability, retailer prices, current deals, reviews, and purchase locations where the feature is supported. Treat those panels as comparison leads rather than a guarantee that every offer is current. Open the retailer’s listing to confirm stock, delivery date, taxes, and seller information.
How to search an on-screen item with Circle to Search
Activate the feature
- Check that your phone is a compatible Android device and that the feature is available in your region and app.
- With the product visible in a social post, video, browser page, or other supported app, long-press the Home button.
- If you use gesture navigation, long-press the navigation handle instead.
- Circle, scribble, highlight, or tap the product you want to identify.
Circle to Search keeps the original app open, so you can investigate an item without copying a link, taking a screenshot, or losing your place. In a crowded image, select only the target object; including surrounding objects can produce less relevant matches.

Google says the setting is labeled Hold home to search when three-button navigation is in use, or Hold handle to search with gesture navigation. Those controls are in Android Settings. If a long press does nothing, confirm the navigation mode, the feature toggle, your internet connection, and device eligibility.
Add a follow-up question
After selecting the object, add a text follow-up when the interface offers it. A query such as a brand name, color, material, or size can turn a generic visual similarity search into a narrower shopping search. Google says multisearch follow-ups work only for select regions, languages, and queries, so the option may not appear for every account or search.

Google’s Android guide cautions: “Results may vary depending on visual matches.” A visually similar result is therefore evidence for further checking, not proof that the listing depicts the same product.
How to use Amazon Lens for Amazon-only results
Upload a library image or take a new one
- Open the Amazon Shopping app.
- Tap the Lens icon in the search bar.
- Choose an image from your phone’s library or take a picture with the camera.
- Review the returned Amazon listings.
- Add text such as a brand, color, product type, or other identifying detail to refine the candidates.
Amazon Lens is useful when the goal is to search one store’s catalog, shipping options, and customer-rating signals. It does not provide a complete view of prices at other retailers, so use Google Lens instead when cross-retailer discovery matters.
Isolate one item in a busy image
Amazon documents a Circle to Search option inside Lens for selecting a specific product in a multi-product picture. Circle the item rather than submitting the entire scene, then add a text qualifier if the first results include unrelated objects.
Scan a barcode for a closer match
Choose the barcode-scanning option when the package has a readable code. Amazon says Barcode Scan can bring up an exact product page for comparing price, delivery, or restock status. Even then, check that the listing is for the same size, count, bundle, or regional version shown on the package.
Compare the offer, not just the picture
Image search answers “what might this be?” Price comparison starts only after you establish what the listing actually includes. Use this checklist on every promising result.

- Identity: Find the exact brand, model name, model number, UPC or barcode, material, and version. A matching silhouette or pattern is not enough.
- Variant: Confirm color, size, generation, capacity, bundle contents, included accessories, and regional edition.
- Total cost: Add the item price to shipping, delivery charges, taxes, and other fees shown before checkout. A lower headline price can be more expensive after those additions.
- Seller: Check who is actually selling the item, not only which marketplace hosts the page.
- Availability: Verify stock status and the promised delivery date at the time you order.
- Returns: Read the applicable return window, restocking conditions, and who pays return shipping.
- Reviews: Read reviews that apply to the same variant. Ratings can combine several sizes, colors, generations, or bundles under one page.
- Specifications: Compare dimensions, materials, compatibility, power requirements, included parts, and warranty terms against the manufacturer’s or retailer’s description.
Google describes Lens shopping panels that can include retailer prices, deals, reviews, and purchase locations. Amazon says its results can be sorted by price, customer ratings, and delivery options. Those controls speed up discovery, but the retailer page remains the place to confirm the final terms.

1. Prepare the image
Crop out unrelated objects, notifications, faces, and background clutter. Keep a distinctive logo, label, fastener, texture, or barcode in the crop. If the product is reflective, photograph it from a slight angle to reduce glare; if text is tiny, take a closer image rather than enlarging a blurry screenshot.
2. Run the broad visual search
Use Google Lens for the widest initial set of candidates, or Amazon Lens when the search is intentionally limited to Amazon. Let the tool identify the general product category before adding assumptions about brand or model.
3. Add the strongest identifying word
Refine with the detail that separates this item from lookalikes: a brand, material, color, pattern, size, model family, or use. One precise term is usually more useful than a long description containing guesses.
4. Confirm an identifier
Look for a model number, barcode, product code, or manufacturer specification that appears both in the image and in the listing. If no identifier is visible, compare several independent attributes—dimensions, construction, controls, seams, ports, or included parts—before treating a listing as the same product.

5. Compare at least two complete offers
Record the delivered total, seller, stock, delivery date, return policy, and variant for each candidate. Do not compare one listing’s item-only price with another listing’s checkout total.
6. Recheck immediately before purchase
Prices, stock, delivery promises, and promotions can change. Refresh the listing and review the final checkout summary, especially when a visual result sends you through an aggregator or marketplace search page.

The search finds similar shapes but not the same item
- Crop to the product and remove background objects.
- Add the exact visible brand or a distinctive material, color, or pattern.
- Photograph the label, underside, back, or control panel where a model number may appear.
- Try a barcode scan if one is available.
The image contains several products
Use Circle to Search to select one object on screen, or crop the photo before opening Google Lens. In Amazon Lens, use its documented circle-selection function for a specific item in a multi-product image.
The result is a different color, size, or bundle
State the required variant in a text follow-up and then inspect the listing’s selectable options. Do not assume that a product page’s main image represents the option currently selected.
No shopping links appear
Lens can identify an object without returning shopping offers. Try a clearer image, add a product-type word, or search the recognized model number directly. Shopping results are not offered in every country or for every query.
Circle to Search will not open
Confirm that the phone is a supported model, that an internet connection is available, and that the feature is enabled under the navigation-specific setting. It works only on compatible apps and surfaces; an unsupported screen may not respond even when the phone otherwise qualifies.
Country coverage, device requirements, and changing availability
Google’s Lens help documentation lists shopping results in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Coverage and feature behavior can change, so readers elsewhere should check what appears for their location rather than assuming that a shopping panel will be available.
Circle to Search is limited to select compatible Android devices and requires an internet connection. The exact supported-device list and eligible apps can change as Google expands or adjusts the feature.

Amazon Lens requires the Amazon Shopping app and searches the catalog available to that app and account’s marketplace. Delivery choices, inventory, and prices can differ by country and delivery address.
Privacy controls for visual searches
Google’s Android help page says Visual Search History is off by default. If you do not want images used with Lens saved in that history, turn off Include Visual Search History. Google also provides Lens activity controls where you can review or delete related activity.
Before photographing a product, check the frame for faces, private documents, addresses, notifications, or other information that you did not intend to submit. Crop those elements out when possible. A screenshot from a private conversation can contain more data than the product itself, so use a crop or a fresh photo of the item.

For most Android users, the practical sequence is Google Lens first, Circle to Search for on-screen items, and Amazon Lens when an Amazon-only result set is the objective. The decisive step is not the visual match itself; it is confirming the identifier, variant, delivered cost, seller, and availability on the listing you are about to buy.
