Best Way to Rotate Relaxation Videos in a Continuous YouTube Live Stream

For a straightforward continuous YouTube stream, arrange your relaxation videos in a playlist in an encoder such as OBS, then send that encoder feed to a YouTube Live event. The rotation happens before the video reaches YouTube: YouTube receives one live feed, while the encoder or playout service determines what plays next.

Choose how to keep the playlist running

There are three practical approaches, depending on how much you want to manage yourself and whether a computer must stay on.

  1. StreamNeo: Upload videos, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer does not need to stay on; any quality up to 4K 60fps is included at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free.
  2. Local software encoder: Use a computer and an encoder such as OBS to play a local playlist and send it to YouTube. YouTube lists OBS among its verified encoders. This gives you direct control over the playback setup but depends on the computer and its internet connection remaining available.
  3. Other cloud or hardware playout: YouTube’s verified encoder directory lists Gyre for continuous prerecorded streaming. YouTube also describes AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream as a way to schedule prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. Check current compatibility, availability, service limits, and costs with the vendors.

For a DIY setup, the local encoder method is the direct route. Choose cloud or hardware playout if avoiding an always-on personal computer matters more than managing playback locally.

Set up a continuous stream with a local encoder

1. Enable YouTube Live and create the event

  1. Enable live streaming on your YouTube channel if it is not already enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the planned broadcast time.
  2. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live event. Scheduling can give viewers an event page and the option to set reminders.
  3. Open the event’s stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key. Keep the key private: it lets an encoder send video to your channel.

2. Build and check the video rotation

  1. In your encoder, configure the relaxation videos as the playback playlist or video source. Interface labels and playlist controls can vary by software version, so check the encoder’s current documentation for exact steps.
  2. Order the videos as you want them to repeat. Preview the playlist before broadcasting and check that the picture and audio continue cleanly at each transition, especially where one file ends and the next begins.
  3. Confirm that the source files play correctly and that the computer has access to every file in the playlist. A moved, renamed, or disconnected file can interrupt playback.

3. Connect the encoder to YouTube

  1. In the encoder’s streaming settings, choose YouTube if offered, or enter the YouTube server URL and stream key copied from Studio.
  2. Start the encoder output and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check that the expected video and audio are arriving before starting the scheduled event.
  3. For a scheduled event, use YouTube’s Go live control after the preview appears. Keep an eye on the encoder, computer, network connection, and YouTube stream health during the broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping uploaded videos live in a continuous stream:

  1. Upload your relaxation video or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the videos from the cloud.

Your computer can stay off. Every slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.

Plan for duration, replays, and interruptions

Do not assume a very long stream will be archived

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If you need a replay of a broadcast that runs longer, do not assume YouTube will create one automatically; plan a separate recording or archive workflow, or schedule shorter sessions.

Understand events versus the live feed

YouTube distinguishes a broadcast—the watchable event—from a stream, the transmission settings and feed sent by an encoder. Its Live Streaming API guide describes recurring broadcasts and a 24/7 broadcast use case. The practical setup here is to keep the feed and playlist running; a continuous feed and a sequence of separately scheduled events are not the same arrangement.

Compare the operating trade-offs

Approach What it changes What to plan for
Local encoder Playback and playlist are managed on your computer. Computer, encoder, files, and internet connection need to remain available. Current costs were not established here.
Cloud playout Moves prerecorded playback away from your personal computer. Check the provider’s current price, limits, compatibility, and recovery behavior.
Dedicated hardware Uses an appliance-style workflow for scheduled playback. Check current product availability, compatibility, and purchase cost with the vendor.

Every method still depends on the relevant network and service or device functioning. Consider how you will notice an interruption and restart or recover the stream.

Protect the stream and your channel’s monetization eligibility

Clear rights before broadcasting

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. A license may not be enough to prevent a live interruption: YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Obtain permission for every relevant video, music track, and other protected material, and ask the rights holder about allowlisting where necessary. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Do not assume looping content qualifies for monetization

YouTube’s channel monetization policy applies to live streams and says monetized content should be original and authentic, rather than mass-produced, generic, or highly repetitive. Owning or licensing the files does not by itself establish monetization eligibility: YouTube may assess the channel as a whole, including whether repeated videos offer meaningful original value. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies before building a channel around a small set of looping videos.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • YouTube does not receive a preview: Check that the encoder is running, the correct server URL and stream key are entered, and the event is open in Live Control Room. If live streaming was just enabled for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours.
  • The stream starts but the playlist stops: Check that the playback source is configured to repeat, that every file remains reachable, and that the encoder or playout device has not stopped. Preview file transitions before going live.
  • A video or audio track is interrupted: Look for a third-party-content warning in YouTube Studio. Resolve rights issues and, for licensed material, ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting.
  • The stream ends unexpectedly: Check the encoder or device, local power and network if applicable, and YouTube’s stream health. Restart the feed if needed; plan monitoring or recovery rather than assuming any setup is interruption-proof.
  • No replay appears after a long broadcast: YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. Use a separate recording workflow or shorter sessions if a replay is important.
