The most practical low-cost setup is a spare PC running OBS, with your showroom video set as a looping media source and OBS connected to YouTube Live using your stream URL and private stream key. That keeps prerecorded content playing; stable power, a capable computer, enough upload bandwidth, automatic reconnect, and monitoring help keep the encoder connected. No software setting can guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
What you need—and what each part does
- A spare PC: It runs OBS and encodes the video. The computer must remain powered and able to handle the selected resolution, frame rate, scene, and encoder.
- OBS Studio: It combines the video and audio into a stream and sends it to YouTube.
- Your showroom video or playlist: A looping media source keeps prerecorded content playing. It does not keep the encoder or internet connection alive if the PC loses power or disconnects.
- YouTube Live Control Room details: The server URL and stream key tell OBS where to send the feed and authorize it to do so. Treat the stream key like a password.
- A stable internet connection: Upload capacity and consistency matter. Ethernet is a useful option when available, but it is not a YouTube requirement.
This setup is for sending prerecorded video through an encoder. A live camera or changing showroom display is a different source: add the camera or capture device to an OBS scene instead of relying on a prerecorded loop.

Set up YouTube Live and OBS
1. Create the stream in YouTube Live Control Room
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Set the stream title, description, privacy, and other metadata. Check the watch page and privacy setting before you rely on the feed being visible to customers.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the stream into OBS. YouTube describes the key as the credential that lets an encoder send the feed. Do not share it publicly; reset it in YouTube if you think it has been exposed. YouTube Help: Go live with an encoder
2. Make a looping video scene in OBS
- In OBS, create a scene for the showroom feed, then add a Media Source.
- Select the video file and enable Loop in the source properties. Play it in the preview and confirm the picture fills the intended frame.
- Check the source audio and OBS audio meters. Mute the source or set levels deliberately if the recording has no useful audio or should play silently.
- For a playlist, add OBS’s VLC Video Source and enable Loop Playlist (enabled by default). This source requires VLC, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Verify the playlist order and that every file plays before going live. OBS: Media Sources
3. Connect OBS to YouTube
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream.
- Choose YouTube as the service. If OBS asks for a server, use the server URL from Live Control Room; enter the stream key there or use YouTube account connection if that is the method you selected.
- Keep the key private, save the settings, and confirm OBS shows the expected scene and audio before starting the stream.
OBS labels can differ slightly by version or connection method. Use the server URL and key for the stream you created, not details copied from an unrelated stream.

Choose settings your computer and connection can sustain
YouTube’s encoder guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, and AV1 options, with CBR recommended and a two-second keyframe interval recommended; do not exceed four seconds. Its bitrate table is a starting point, not a guarantee that a particular spare PC or connection can sustain the setting. Check YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the current guidance relevant to your selected format and resolution.

- Use a compatible encoder and format. Select an option supported by your OBS installation, PC, and YouTube stream configuration.
- Start conservatively. A simple scene and a tested lower output resolution or frame rate may be more dependable than pushing the PC with an ambitious configuration.
- Use CBR and the recommended keyframe interval. Set a constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval where the encoder exposes these controls.
- Test the actual setup. Basic operating-system or GPU compatibility does not prove that the PC can encode your chosen resolution, frame rate, and scene smoothly. OBS recommends testing settings before the first stream. OBS: Stream connection troubleshooting
Allow enough upload bandwidth
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. If you configure both a primary and backup stream bitrate, include both in the total. YouTube warns that a connection disruption can break a stream. YouTube Help: Streaming tips
- Check upload speed and stability at the location and time you expect to stream; a single speed-test result does not establish that the connection will remain stable.
- If Ethernet is practical, connect the PC to the router with a cable to avoid relying on a wireless link. A cable will not fix an unstable internet service or inadequate upload capacity.
- Keep other devices and applications from consuming the upload capacity you need, where practical.
Test before leaving the showroom feed unattended
YouTube recommends configuring an encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before an event. For a showroom, use that lead time for a realistic test with the same media, audio, scene, bitrate, PC, and network you intend to use.

- Start OBS and confirm the video loops and audio behaves as intended.
- Start the encoder stream early enough to inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health messages.
- Open the watch page from another device or browser to check what viewers see, including privacy and playback.
- Check the video and audio during the test, and confirm any local recording or archive workflow you depend on.
- Leave the setup running long enough to expose issues that appear after startup, and note any dropped frames or disconnections.

Plan for reconnection, power, and long sessions
Reconnect helps, but does not guarantee uptime
OBS has an automatic reconnect setting. It can help OBS recover from some dropped connections, but it cannot prevent a power loss, repair an unreliable internet service, or guarantee that YouTube will stay connected. Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and check the physical PC periodically. OBS’s troubleshooting guidance associates dropped frames and intermittent disconnections with network instability or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. OBS: Stream connection troubleshooting

Check the actual PC’s power and restart behavior
For unattended use, the PC must not sleep or shut down while the stream is needed. The right sleep, update, restart, and firmware power settings depend on the operating system and machine; consult current documentation for that specific PC rather than applying a universal setting. Also consider who will notice and respond if the machine or internet connection stops.
Do not assume a very long session will be archived
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If you need an archive, do not assume a stream longer than that will be saved; plan an appropriate session length and a separate recording or archive workflow. Common problems and fixes

| OBS is live, but viewers see a black screen or the wrong content | Incorrect scene, media source, or YouTube stream selection | Check the OBS preview, selected scene, media file playback, and that OBS uses the server URL and key for the intended Live Control Room stream. |
| The video plays once and stops | Loop is not enabled on the media source | Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video Source. |
