There is no evidence-based universal winner among the 12 hosts named in a 2026 provider-authored guide. The right choice depends on whether you need a persistent GPU machine, an inference service, or a multi-node training cluster—and on the exact GPU, region, billing terms, and availability you can get. Treat the names below as a shortlist to investigate, not an independently tested ranking.
What does “VPS for AI” mean here?
For AI and large language models, “VPS” can be misleading: the relevant options are GPU cloud services, not necessarily ordinary virtual private servers. A dedicated GPU instance, serverless inference endpoint, and distributed cluster solve different problems. Compare them by workload rather than treating them as equivalent plans.

Dedicated GPU instances
A persistent or on-demand GPU instance suits development, fine-tuning, training, batch jobs, and other work that needs a machine you control. Runpod, for example, separates its dedicated Pods from its other service types.
Serverless inference
Serverless workers are aimed at inference workloads where the service model is based on usage rather than keeping a dedicated machine running. Check how the provider bills idle time, startup, storage, and requests before comparing it with an instance’s hourly rate.

Multi-node clusters
Distributed training may require multiple GPUs across one or more machines. GPU count alone is not enough: confirm the GPU interconnect within a machine and the networking between machines, as well as whether the required configuration is available in your region.
Which 12 hosts belong on an initial shortlist?
A 2026 guide published by Runpod names these 12 candidates. Because the list comes from a provider in the market, it is a useful starting point—not an independent ranking or a finding that each option fits every workload.

The available comparison does not independently establish current prices, regional inventory, comparable performance, reliability, or service terms for all 12. For each candidate, verify the exact SKU and service model in the provider’s current documentation before deciding.
How should you match a host to your workload?
- Define the job. Separate model training, fine-tuning, batch processing, persistent development, inference APIs, and distributed training. Decide whether you need a machine you manage, a managed inference service, or a cluster.
- Set the hardware requirements. Check the GPU model and VRAM, CPU and system memory, GPU count, and whether the exact combination is available in your target region. A GPU name on its own does not establish equivalent system performance.
- Check scaling and networking. For multi-GPU or multi-node jobs, verify GPU interconnect and inter-node networking. Do not assume that the speed of one GPU predicts the throughput of a cluster.
- Calculate the full bill. Include billing granularity, minimum charges, storage, data egress, attached CPU and RAM, and whether a stopped instance continues to incur charges. A headline GPU rate is not a complete workload cost.
- Assess operations. Compare setup, APIs, cluster controls, managed ML tools, security requirements, support, and integration with the rest of your cloud environment.
- Confirm capacity and terms. Check live inventory and quotas for the specific region and SKU, interruption or preemption rules, support, and any applicable service commitment before you build around the instance.
What do the published GPU prices show?
The figures below are vendor-published page prices, not normalized quotes or independent performance tests. Runpod’s product page was updated August 27, 2026; OVHcloud’s GPU page was accessed October 7, 2026. The stated configurations and “from” prices should be checked against the live offer and selected region before purchase.

- SKU and location: Confirm the exact GPU, VRAM, attached CPU and RAM, and regional availability—not just a general product-family name.
- Real workload cost: Estimate runtime and add storage, egress, and any minimum or idle charges. Compare the same job and resource configuration across providers.
- Interruption risk: Determine whether capacity can be preempted and what happens to active work, checkpoints, and data if it is.
- Service terms: Read the commitment and support terms for the actual service, region, and configuration you plan to use.
- Performance evidence: Test your own model and workflow when possible. Provider specifications and GPU labels do not substitute for comparable end-to-end benchmarks.
OVHcloud states that its GPU instances have a 99.99% monthly availability SLA. That is OVHcloud’s own claim, not an independently measured comparison across the listed hosts; check the contract for the configuration and region you intend to use.
