A September 2026 comparison reports Lebanon locations for NordVPN, Proton VPN, and ExpressVPN, but its speed tests were run on a PC in Europe—not in Beirut.
First decide whether you need a Lebanese IP
These are two different use cases. People abroad who need a Lebanese IP for a Lebanon-specific service need a VPN endpoint that exits through a Lebanon location. People in Lebanon who want their traffic routed through a VPN can connect to another country; they do not need a Lebanese endpoint unless they specifically want a Lebanon-based IP.

A VPN changes your network route and apparent IP address. It does not fix a power interruption, an ISP outage, or a slow underlying connection, and it does not guarantee access to every website or streaming service.
VPNs with a reported Lebanon location
Gizmodo’s September 2026 comparison reports Lebanon locations for NordVPN, Proton VPN, and ExpressVPN. Its tests were conducted from a PC in Europe against a 190.36 Mbps baseline. The figures below are that publication’s results, not measurements of a Beirut household connection or tests originating in Beirut.

| Provider | Lebanon location and reported IP | Reported speed and ping | Reported streaming result | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NordVPN | Gizmodo reported a Beirut IP location. NordVPN’s server directory lists Lebanon; it explains that virtual locations may not have hardware physically in the named location, so the host’s physical location should not be assumed. | 172.50 Mbps; 86 ms. Gizmodo test from a PC in Europe; 190.36 Mbps baseline. | Gizmodo reported successful MTV Lebanon playback. | The comparison supports using it as a candidate for a Lebanese IP. It does not establish the physical location of the server hardware. |
| Proton VPN | Proton says paid plans can connect to Lebanese servers to appear to access the internet from Lebanon. Its free plan does not include free Lebanon servers. Gizmodo labels the tested location “Smart routing” and virtual. | 183.06 Mbps; 94 ms. Gizmodo test from a PC in Europe; 190.36 Mbps baseline. | No result established in the supplied comparison findings. | Proton’s Lebanon capability and plan distinction are provider claims; the speed and routing description are Gizmodo’s test findings. |
| ExpressVPN | Gizmodo reported an IP geolocated in Beirut. | 185.68 Mbps; 85 ms. Gizmodo test from a PC in Europe; 190.36 Mbps baseline. | Gizmodo reported successful MTV Lebanon playback. | The comparison reports a Beirut-geolocated IP; it does not establish the physical location of the server hardware. |

Which option fits each reader?
If you need a Lebanese IP from abroad
Start by checking whether the provider currently offers a Lebanon endpoint on the plan and device you intend to use. Proton explicitly says its paid plans include access to Lebanese servers and that its free plan does not include free Lebanon servers. The Gizmodo comparison also reports Lebanon locations for NordVPN and ExpressVPN. Treat its MTV Lebanon playback results as a single publication’s test, not a guarantee that streaming will continue to work.

If you are connecting from Lebanon
A Lebanon endpoint is optional when your goal is to use a VPN. You may instead select a location that suits the service you need. The available comparison does not establish which VPN performs best on Lebanese ISPs: its test origin was in Europe, and it did not provide a Beirut-origin benchmark or ISP-by-ISP results.
What the speed figures do—and do not—tell you
In Gizmodo’s European-origin test, the reported downloads were 172.50 Mbps for NordVPN, 183.06 Mbps for Proton VPN, and 185.68 Mbps for ExpressVPN, compared with a 190.36 Mbps baseline. Reported pings were 86 ms, 94 ms, and 85 ms, respectively. These are results from that test setup, not a ranking for users in Lebanon. The Proton result was described as “Smart routing,” and its IP was geolocated in Broummana; Gizmodo reported Beirut geolocation for the NordVPN and ExpressVPN results.

Your result will depend on factors such as your ISP, distance to the chosen VPN endpoint, network conditions, protocol, and time of day. The cited comparison does not establish how those variables affect a connection from Beirut or elsewhere in Lebanon.

A VPN can route traffic through an encrypted connection to its VPN server and replace the IP address websites see with the server’s apparent IP. That is not the same as anonymity, and it does not make unlawful conduct lawful. The comparison findings provided here do not establish a like-for-like audit of the providers’ privacy policies, obfuscation, kill switches, or device limits, so those features should be checked in each provider’s current documentation rather than inferred from speed or location results.

Proton VPN’s Lebanon page says there is no specific law banning VPN use in Lebanon and that VPN use is common there. The same provider cautions that activity conducted through a VPN remains subject to Lebanese law. How to choose and verify before paying
- Define the required IP location. If a service requires a Lebanese IP, confirm that Lebanon is available as a selectable VPN location. If you are in Lebanon and only want a VPN connection, choose an endpoint based on your needs instead.
- Check the current plan details. Confirm which plans include the required location, supported devices, renewal price, refund terms, and any usage limits directly with the provider. The cited evidence does not establish current prices, renewal rates, or refund conditions.
- Test the actual service. If streaming or another Lebanon-specific service matters, connect to the Lebanon endpoint and check it with your own account before relying on it. A result from Gizmodo’s test does not guarantee future access.
- Measure from your own connection. Compare your normal connection with the VPN enabled using the same device and test method. Record the location, protocol, time, and baseline so you can judge the result in your own setting.
- Review privacy and recovery settings. Read the current privacy policy and check for a kill switch and any connection-protection settings relevant to your device. If the VPN disconnects, stop sensitive activity until the protected connection is restored.
