Surfshark, Proton VPN, ExpressVPN, and NordVPN all advertise Italian server access, but none is proven best for every traveler, device, internet provider, or Italian service. Choose an Italy endpoint for an Italian IP, a nearby endpoint for travel, or an employer-approved VPN for remote work—and test the exact service before relying on it.
The provider pages below document advertised locations and features. They do not establish a universal speed winner, guaranteed streaming access, or complete anonymity.
Which VPNs have servers in Italy?
These are the most relevant options documented for Italy in the available provider information. Claims about capacity, coverage, audits, and device limits belong to the providers unless otherwise noted.
| Provider | What its Italy information says | What that does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Surfshark | Advertises an Italy server location, 10 Gbps ports, a kill switch, NoBorders, and a reference to a 2025 no-logs verification. Its Italy page also reports more than 4,500 servers in 100 countries. | No independent Italy-specific speed result or proof that a particular broadcaster will accept the connection. Surfshark Italy server page |
| Proton VPN | Advertises Italian servers and states that its Plus plan is required to watch the Italian Netflix catalog. | The statement does not cover every Italian service or guarantee continued access. Proton VPN Italy page |
| ExpressVPN | Advertises 10 Gbps and 40 Gbps servers in Italy, coverage in 113 countries, up to 14 simultaneous connections, and an independently verified no-logs policy. | These are provider-reported capacities, coverage, limits, and assurances—not a controlled performance ranking. Recheck the device limit before subscribing. ExpressVPN Italy page |
| NordVPN | Its server directory lists Italy in three cities. Its no-logs page describes independent reviews, including Deloitte examinations. | City availability and audit history do not predict your speed or prove access to a particular platform. NordVPN server directory · NordVPN no-logs page |
TechRadar’s review published September 24, 2026 includes NordVPN, Surfshark, ExpressVPN, and Proton VPN among providers it considers suitable for common needs based on its own review and tests. Pick the right Italy VPN for your use case
You need an Italian IP address while abroad
Select an app with an Italy location, connect to an Italian server, and verify the target website or app before travel. An advertised Italian server proves that the provider offers that location; it does not prove that a bank, broadcaster, or streaming platform will accept the IP. Platform rights and VPN detection can change.
You are traveling in Italy and want a nearby connection
An Italian or nearby endpoint may reduce the distance to your VPN server, but actual performance also depends on your ISP, device, route, congestion, protocol, and the destination service. No controlled Italy-specific head-to-head speed test was established for these providers, so avoid promises that one is definitively fastest.

You use hotel, airport, or café Wi‑Fi
A VPN can encrypt traffic between your device and the VPN endpoint. It does not secure information after it reaches a website, prevent phishing or malicious apps, or make a compromised phone or laptop safe. Use HTTPS, install updates, disable Wi‑Fi when it is not needed, prefer mobile data for sensitive tasks where practical, use unique passwords, and enable multifactor authentication.

- 【VPN CASCADING AT EASE】Surpassing the mediocre performance of most VPN routers for home usage, the Beryl AX is capable of hosting a VPN server and VPN client at the same time within the same device, enabling users to remote access local network resources like Wi-Fi printers or local web servers, and accessing the public internet as a VPN client simultaneously.
You work remotely
Use the VPN and device configuration approved by your employer. The Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante) discusses a VPN prepared by the remote-system operator for reaching private resources such as an office computer. It describes this encrypted connection as a “tunnel virtuale” (“virtual tunnel”) that makes exchanged information unintelligible to third parties on the same public Wi‑Fi. This guidance concerns controlled remote access, not an endorsement or comparison of consumer VPN brands. Garante privacy guidance.
You want to watch Italian television or Netflix abroad
Check the service’s current terms and test it on your own account. A VPN may be detected, and catalog rights vary by country and can change without notice. Proton specifically says its Plus plan is needed for the Italian Netflix catalog; do not generalize that plan requirement to other providers or services. Geo-restriction circumvention may also conflict with a platform’s rules.

How to compare VPN plans before paying
- Confirm the direction of travel. Connecting from Italy to a foreign endpoint is a different requirement from obtaining an Italy IP while overseas.
- Check the exact location. Look for Italy in the current app server list, and note whether the provider names cities or only the country.
- Match your devices. Verify operating-system support, simultaneous-connection limits, router support if needed, and whether a kill switch is available on your platform.
- Evaluate privacy evidence. Prefer clearly dated, independently reviewed claims and read what the review covered; an audit is not a guarantee of perfect anonymity.
- Test the target service. Confirm the broadcaster, bank, work portal, or other site works on the plan and device you will actually use.
- Read current commercial terms. Check live price, renewal price, refund window, cancellation path, and payment terms immediately before purchase. Comparable current prices and refund terms were not established in the information available here.
What a VPN can—and cannot—protect in Italy
- It can: encrypt the connection from your device to the VPN endpoint and replace your apparent IP address with the endpoint’s address.
- It cannot: guarantee anonymity, protect data once a service receives it, stop malware or phishing, repair an insecure device, or ensure that an Italian platform accepts the connection.
- It does not replace: your employer’s remote-access controls, HTTPS, software updates, strong passwords, multifactor authentication, or sensible Wi‑Fi practices.
Bottom line for 2026
Start with the use case rather than a universal ranking. Surfshark, Proton VPN, ExpressVPN, and NordVPN each document an Italy option, while their advertised capacities, plans, locations, and privacy assurances differ. Verify the current app and plan, test the service you need, and treat all performance or streaming claims as conditional rather than guaranteed.
