If you need an Icelandic IP address, choose a VPN that explicitly lists Iceland servers; if you are in Iceland and want a service from another country, connect to a server in that country instead. Four providers in the available official information document Iceland locations: ExpressVPN, NordVPN, Proton VPN, and Surfshark. Their published network claims do not establish which one streams best, and none should be treated as a guarantee of access to a particular catalog.
The title’s “five” cannot be supported by the documented candidates, so this comparison leaves a fifth recommendation open rather than inventing one. Provider details below were checked on October 7, 2026; locations, apps, and service behavior can change.

What an Iceland VPN can—and cannot—do for streaming
A VPN routes your connection through a server in a country you select. If you are traveling and want to try accessing a service associated with Iceland, an Iceland server can give you an Icelandic IP address. If you are physically in Iceland and want a service or catalog tied to another country, you would generally select a server in that country. The direction matters: an Iceland endpoint is not the right choice for every Iceland-based streaming request.
A server location alone does not ensure that a streaming service will accept the connection. Netflix explains that a VPN can make a device or network appear to connect from somewhere other than its physical location; it may then show only titles licensed worldwide, and users may need to turn off the VPN to see titles available in their region. See Netflix’s VPN guidance and its account-country help page. Netflix also says VPN use hides the viewer’s region and limits viewing to titles available globally.

Streaming access depends on the particular service, country, device, and the server’s current behavior. The provider pages compared here identify Iceland locations but do not provide independent, side-by-side Iceland streaming tests. A provider’s server count, advertised capacity, or location list is not a measured video-quality result.
VPNs with Iceland servers: what the providers document
| Provider | Iceland location information | Other published network or app details | What the information does—and does not—show |
|---|---|---|---|
| ExpressVPN | ExpressVPN says its Iceland service uses physical servers in Reykjavík. | The provider says its network spans 214 locations in 113 countries. Its setup guidance covers computers, phones, media devices, and routers. | The Reykjavík location may suit someone seeking an Icelandic IP while abroad. Network scope and server status are provider claims, not comparative streaming results. |
| NordVPN | NordVPN advertises Reykjavík connectivity and says it has 14 Icelandic servers. | Its server directory says a server closer to the user often provides better connection speed and streaming quality. | The server count and “top speed” wording are NordVPN’s claims. They do not establish a measured advantage over other VPNs. |
| Proton VPN | Proton VPN says it offers Icelandic servers. | It lists WireGuard support and apps for major platforms, including TVs. Proton advertises speeds up to 10 Gbps and more than 20,000 servers in over 140 countries. | These are Proton’s published network and speed claims—not measured throughput or evidence of successful access to a specific streaming service. |
| Surfshark | Surfshark’s Iceland page contains Iceland-specific VPN information. | The provider describes a network of 4,500+ servers in 100 countries and says it supports unlimited simultaneous connections. | Those network and connection claims do not demonstrate that a particular catalog or service will work. |
| Fifth recommendation | Not established by the reviewed official information. | No fifth Iceland-location candidate is substantiated here. | Leaving this slot open is more accurate than naming an unsupported provider. |

Which option fits your use?
If you are abroad and want an Icelandic IP address
Start with a provider that explicitly documents Iceland servers, then select Iceland in its app. ExpressVPN specifically describes using its Reykjavík servers to obtain an Icelandic IP while abroad. NordVPN, Proton VPN, and Surfshark also document Iceland locations. A local IP may be useful for attempting to reach a home service, but the service itself may still restrict access or detect a VPN.

If you are in Iceland and want a foreign service
Select a server in the relevant country, not Iceland. If playback buffers, try another server in that country or a closer available location that still meets your needs. NordVPN advises that servers near the user often provide better speed and streaming quality; that is general provider guidance, not an Iceland-specific comparative test. A longer route can affect connection quality, but switching servers cannot guarantee access if a service blocks VPN traffic.

If you need a VPN on a television or streaming box
Check that the provider’s app supports your exact device and operating system before subscribing. Proton lists apps for major platforms including TVs, while ExpressVPN’s setup guidance covers media devices and routers. A router setup can be an alternative when a TV lacks a suitable VPN app, but verify the router’s firmware, VPN protocol, and the provider’s current instructions before relying on that route.
How to choose and troubleshoot an Iceland VPN for streaming
- Decide which country your connection needs to appear to be in. For an Icelandic IP while abroad, choose Iceland; for a foreign-region service while in Iceland, choose that service’s relevant country.
- Confirm device support. Check the VPN’s current app listing for the television, box, or other device you will use. If planning a router setup, confirm compatibility and setup instructions for that exact router.
- Connect and test the intended service. Sign in and try playback on the specific service and device. No provider’s Iceland location listing proves that the service will allow the connection.
- If playback fails, isolate the cause. Try a different server in the intended country, check whether the VPN app is connected, and restart the app or device. If Netflix shows a restricted selection, its help guidance says you may need to turn off the VPN to see titles available in your region.
- Review current terms before committing. Server locations, device support, refund terms, and subscription conditions can change. Check the provider’s current offer and terms directly; the available comparison information does not establish comparable prices or refund periods.
What the provider claims cannot tell you
ExpressVPN’s reported 214 locations in 113 countries, NordVPN’s 14 Icelandic servers, Proton VPN’s advertised speeds up to 10 Gbps and network of more than 20,000 servers in over 140 countries, and Surfshark’s 4,500+ servers in 100 countries are provider-published figures checked October 7, 2026. They describe network claims, not independently measured performance. For a true streaming ranking, a current, repeatable test would need to identify the service, country, device, server, date, and playback result.

Even the content rules matter: Proton’s streaming information quotes Netflix’s terms as limiting access primarily to the country where the account was established and to locations where the service is offered and content licensed. Read Proton VPN’s streaming guide alongside Netflix’s own help pages rather than assuming an Iceland IP overrides a service’s geographic rules.
