For an Icelandic IP address while abroad, choose a VPN that currently lists Iceland as an exit location; for other uses, compare its privacy evidence, device support, and the terms of the service you plan to access. CyberNews’s current shortlist names NordVPN, IPVanish, ExpressVPN, and CyberGhost. That is one publisher’s editorial recommendation—not a like-for-like test establishing a definitive winner.
Four VPNs on CyberNews’s Iceland shortlist
CyberNews says its recommendations consider privacy and security, streaming, performance, and other factors. The list is useful as a starting point, but the available evidence does not establish comparative speed, privacy, or streaming results across these providers.

| Provider | What the cited material establishes | What to verify before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| NordVPN | CyberNews includes it in the shortlist. NordVPN’s location page lists Iceland as a location with one city (NordVPN server locations). | Check the app or current support information for the Iceland option and whether it fits your intended use. A location listing alone does not establish speed or access to a particular service. |
| IPVanish | CyberNews includes it in the shortlist. | Confirm current Iceland availability and assess its privacy and security claims against the supporting evidence you require. |
| ExpressVPN | CyberNews includes it in the shortlist. ExpressVPN says it has physical servers in Reykjavik and offers an Iceland IP location (ExpressVPN VPN server locations). | Treat server and feature descriptions as provider statements, not independent performance findings. Confirm current availability in the app. |
| CyberGhost | CyberNews includes it in the shortlist. | Confirm its current Iceland server configuration and whether its apps and terms suit your devices and use. |
A separate SafetyDetectives list names a different set of five providers. It discloses common ownership involving ExpressVPN’s parent company and several VPNs on its list, so its ranking should be read with that relationship in mind (SafetyDetectives VPN recommendations).

Get an Icelandic IP while traveling
Select Iceland in the provider’s app, connect, then check the resulting IP location. NordVPN’s location inventory lists Iceland with one city; ExpressVPN says it operates physical servers in Reykjavik. These provider listings are useful for checking availability, but server inventories can change.

A VPN routes your traffic through a VPN server and can change the IP location that websites see. ExpressVPN describes using an Iceland server to access familiar Icelandic services while traveling (ExpressVPN’s Iceland VPN page). An Icelandic IP does not guarantee that a streaming service, bank, or other site will accept the connection: account, anti-fraud, licensing, and access rules still apply.
Improve privacy on public or unfamiliar networks
Compare what each provider says it collects, how its logging policy is worded, and what independent audits or other verification are available. A no-logs claim is not, by itself, independent proof. Also check your device’s VPN controls and make sure the connection is active when you need it.

Read the policy and any supporting verification rather than treating a provider statement as independently established.

Proton says its Secure Core servers are located in Iceland, Switzerland, and Sweden. With the feature enabled, traffic passes through a Secure Core server before reaching the exit server you choose (Proton VPN Secure Core). This is a routing design, not a reason to select Iceland as the exit location for every task; the exit country determines the apparent IP location.

Questions to check before subscribing
- Iceland location: Is Iceland currently selectable in the app, and does the provider say whether the server is physical or virtual?
- Privacy evidence: What does the policy say is collected, and what independent verification supports its claims?
- Devices and protocols: Does the service support your operating systems and the connection features you need?
- Service compatibility: Does the particular streaming, banking, or work service allow or accept VPN connections?
- Total cost and terms: Check the full initial cost, renewal price, refund conditions, and supported-device limits in the current plan details. These terms are not established on a comparable basis here.
How to make the final choice
- Decide whether you need an Icelandic IP, a different-country exit, or an additional routing feature such as Secure Core.
- Check the provider’s current app or support pages for the locations and device features you need.
- Read the privacy policy and look for independent verification that matches the strength of the provider’s claims.
- Confirm the target service’s own rules, then review total plan cost, renewal terms, and refund conditions before paying.
Server inventories, prices, plans, and streaming compatibility can change. Recheck them directly with the provider and the service you intend to use before subscribing.
