No VPN in the available evidence has been tested specifically with graphic-design apps or creative-file workflows. NordVPN, Proton VPN and ExpressVPN are reasonable services to compare based on general VPN coverage, but the right choice depends on how each performs with your own apps, uploads and devices. Prioritize nearby-server speed, reliable connections, privacy practices and total subscription cost rather than treating a general VPN ranking as a design-specific verdict.
What a VPN can—and cannot—do for design work
A VPN encrypts your connection between your device and a VPN server, then routes traffic through that server. That can be useful on untrusted networks or when you want the added privacy of routing traffic through a VPN provider. But encryption and the extra routing can also reduce connection speed. A VPN is not a substitute for backups, account security or secure sharing permissions.

The available comparisons cover general VPN performance, not Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, cloud libraries or creative-file uploads. They do not establish that any named service improves access to those tools or is the best VPN for graphic designers. Treat the providers below as candidates to evaluate on your own workflow.
VPN services to compare
NordVPN
TechRadar named NordVPN its overall pick in a general VPN roundup published September 24, 2026. That is an editorial judgment based on general VPN testing, not testing of graphic-design workflows. Read TechRadar’s general VPN roundup.

NordVPN also describes an independent 2026 performance test that assessed participating providers for speed, leak protection, website accessibility, feature reliability and connection time. According to NordVPN’s account, ProtonVPN recorded the test’s fastest latency on its best route at 183 ms, and NordVPN received the only Platinum rating. These are claims about that test, not measures of design-app responsiveness or file-transfer speed. See NordVPN’s account of the 2026 performance test.
Proton VPN
Proton VPN appears in the general-provider comparison context, but the cited material does not establish it as a design-specific winner. Its support guidance recommends trying different protocols to seek better performance; that is vendor advice, not a comparative result. Proton VPN’s protocol guidance.
Rank #2

ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN’s support documentation explains that routing and encryption can reduce speed and recommends the Automatic protocol setting when troubleshooting a slow connection. This is guidance for its own service, not evidence that it is faster than the other candidates for design work. ExpressVPN’s slow-connection troubleshooting.
How to choose for your actual workflow
General VPN rankings cannot tell you how a provider will behave with your internet connection, location, apps and file sizes. Compare candidates using the same devices and work tasks you rely on.
Rank #3
- New-Gen WiFi Standard – WiFi 6(802.11ax) standard supporting MU-MIMO and OFDMA technology for better efficiency and throughput.Antenna : External antenna x 4. Processor : Dual-core (4 VPE). Power Supply : AC Input : 110V~240V(50~60Hz), DC Output : 12 V with max. 1.5A current.
- Ultra-fast WiFi Speed – RT-AX1800S supports 1024-QAM for dramatically faster wireless connections
- Increase Capacity and Efficiency – Supporting not only MU-MIMO but also OFDMA technique to efficiently allocate channels, communicate with multiple devices simultaneously
- 5 Gigabit ports – One Gigabit WAN port and four Gigabit LAN ports, 10X faster than 100–Base T Ethernet.
- Commercial-grade Security Anywhere – Protect your home network with AiProtection Classic, powered by Trend Micro. And when away from home, ASUS Instant Guard gives you a one-click secure VPN.
- Nearby-server speed: Start with a server geographically close to you. A nearby route is a practical place to begin testing, not a guarantee of better results.
- Upload performance: Try uploading a representative large file to your usual storage or collaboration service. The cited VPN tests do not measure creative-file uploads, so use your own result.
- Consistency and stability: Check whether the connection stays usable through a work session, video call or collaborative review—not just a brief speed check.
- Protocol controls: See whether the app lets you change protocol settings. If performance is poor, try the provider’s recommended troubleshooting options; protocols can involve trade-offs, so keep the setting that works for your needs.
- Privacy and logging: Read the provider’s current privacy and logging statements, and distinguish provider claims from independent verification. A VPN shifts some trust from your network provider to the VPN provider; it does not make you anonymous.
- Device support and usability: Confirm support for every operating system and device you use, and check whether the app is straightforward to connect, pause and troubleshoot.
- Total subscription cost: Compare the renewal price and subscription term shown at checkout, not just an introductory offer. Current offers and affiliate terms are not established by the sources cited here.
Test a VPN before relying on it for a deadline
This check is practical advice inferred from general speed guidance, not a published design-workflow test. Repeat it at the times and places you normally work, because network conditions can change.
- Record how your usual connection performs with the VPN disconnected, using the same device and network you plan to work on.
- Connect to a nearby VPN server and run the same speed check. Pay particular attention to upload performance if you routinely send large files.
- Open the design apps and cloud services you actually use. Test the tasks that matter: loading a project, syncing a library, joining a review or uploading a typical file.
- If performance is poor, try a different nearby server and the provider’s suggested protocol settings. ExpressVPN recommends Automatic for troubleshooting slow speeds; Proton VPN advises trying different protocols.
- Keep the VPN on only if the resulting privacy benefit is worth any slowdown or disruption for that task. For time-sensitive work, decide on a reliable fallback before a deadline.
How to interpret VPN speed claims
Speed and latency describe different things. Latency is the time it takes for data to travel and return; it can affect responsiveness, while upload throughput is more directly relevant to sending a large file. A latency figure alone cannot show how quickly a project file will upload.
Rank #4

The 183 ms figure attributed to ProtonVPN is the fastest latency recorded on its best route in the 2026 test described by NordVPN. It is not a result for graphic-design applications, a typical user’s route or a creative-file upload. Use published general tests to identify candidates, then rely on your own workflow checks for the decision.
