Provider-listed server counts and features can help narrow the choice, but they do not establish speed, privacy performance, or access to a particular streaming service.
What “best VPN for Malaysia” means for your task
A VPN routes your connection through a provider’s server, so websites see the server’s IP address rather than your connection’s usual public IP. If you are outside Malaysia and need a Malaysian IP, you need a provider that currently offers a Malaysia endpoint. If you are physically in Malaysia, a Malaysian endpoint is not automatically the best choice: a nearby server may offer a shorter network route, though actual latency and speed also depend on your internet connection, server load, and routing.

Which VPNs list Malaysian servers?
| Provider | Malaysia locations and listed servers | Simultaneous connections | Relevant listed features |
|---|---|---|---|
| NordVPN | 12 Malaysia servers listed | 10 connections listed | Malaysia server selection and specialty-server options; the provider states a 30-day money-back guarantee. |
| Proton VPN | More than 30 servers listed in Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur | Up to 10 devices at once | WireGuard and OpenVPN, kill switch, Secure Core, and Stealth. Malaysia servers require Plus; its free plan does not promise a selectable Malaysia endpoint. |
Server counts and features in this table are provider claims and may change. They do not show whether servers are physically located in the named city, how fast a connection will be, or whether a service will work reliably for a particular purpose. Check the current plan and server list before subscribing.

How do I choose the best VPN for Malaysia?
Start with the IP location you need
- Need a Malaysian IP while abroad: Confirm that Malaysia appears as a selectable location in the provider’s current app and that your subscription tier includes it.
- Connecting from within Malaysia: Compare nearby available endpoints and try more than one. A closer server can reduce route length, but it is not a guarantee of better speed.
- Protecting traffic on public Wi-Fi: Check for a kill switch and supported protocols. A VPN protects the connection between your device and the VPN server; it does not make every online activity anonymous or replace device security.
Check device limits and plan restrictions
Count the phones, computers, and other devices you want to connect at once. The listed limits vary: NordVPN lists 10 simultaneous connections, while Proton VPN says up to 10 devices. Confirm the limit and included features for the plan and terms available in your country; a feature advertised by a provider may not be included in every tier.
Compare privacy and connection controls
Protocol choice affects how a VPN establishes its connection, while a kill switch is designed to block internet traffic if the VPN connection drops. Obfuscation or Stealth features are intended to make VPN traffic less readily identifiable, but their presence alone does not establish that a connection will evade every network restriction.

Proton VPN lists WireGuard and OpenVPN, a kill switch, Secure Core, and Stealth. NordVPN lists specialty-server options. Treat specifications and privacy assurances as statements from the providers, not as independent proof of a particular outcome. Consider what assurance is described, who conducted it, and which dates or systems it covers.

The provider pages do not establish reliable access to any named Malaysian or foreign streaming platform. Streaming services can change VPN restrictions, and access can vary by service, server, account, device, and date. If a platform is your main reason for subscribing, check its current terms and the provider’s refund conditions, and do not treat a general “streaming” claim as a guarantee.

Check price and refund terms at checkout
Prices and promotions can vary by country, subscription length, and date. Compare the final checkout amount, renewal price, payment period, and refund conditions for the plan offered to you. A provider’s stated money-back guarantee is not the same as a free trial, and its conditions matter.
How do I change my IP address to Malaysia?
- Choose a VPN plan that includes a Malaysian server location. For Proton VPN, the provider says Malaysia servers are available on Plus; its free plan does not promise a selectable Malaysia endpoint.
- Install the provider’s app on your device and sign in.
- Open the server or location list, select Malaysia, and connect. Provider pages describe Malaysia as a selectable location, but app labels and server availability can change.
- Once connected, check your public IP using a reputable IP lookup service. It should show a Malaysian IP location if the connection is using the intended endpoint. IP geolocation databases can be approximate, so a displayed city may not precisely identify a server’s physical location.
- If the connection fails or shows a different country, disconnect and reconnect, choose another Malaysia server if offered, and check that your plan includes that location. If the issue continues, contact the provider’s support team.
What the available specifications do not prove
- Speed: No comparable Malaysia-specific speed measurements are established for these providers here. Server count is not a speed test.
- Streaming: No current, service-specific tests establish that a provider will unblock a named platform.
- Server location: Listed city and server counts are provider-reported and are not an independent verification of physical infrastructure.
- Privacy outcomes: A protocol, kill switch, audit, or assurance statement describes a feature or review; it does not by itself establish that every user’s activity is private under every circumstance.
Is it legal to use a VPN in Malaysia?
This guide does not establish the current position under Malaysian law: no primary Malaysian statute or official regulator guidance is cited here. Do not rely on a VPN provider’s marketing FAQ as a legal authority. For a decision with legal consequences, check current Malaysian legislation and official government guidance or consult a qualified local lawyer. The legality of a VPN also does not determine whether a particular use complies with a website’s terms or other applicable laws.
