1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor most Belgian readers, ProtonVPN Plus is the strongest overall pick in Test-Aankoop’s 2026 comparison, which named it best in test among eight paid VPNs. But the right choice depends on what matters most: Test-Aankoop points to different services for streaming, privacy and budget. Its results do not guarantee access to every streaming service, and the available evidence does not establish comparable current Belgian prices.
Which VPN is best for Belgium in 2026?
Test-Aankoop’s 2026 comparison of eight paid VPN services names ProtonVPN Plus best in test. It assessed speed, features, usability, privacy and security. The same comparison recommends alternatives for specific priorities, so the overall award is a useful starting point—not proof that Proton is best for every household or every streaming platform.

The page gives ProtonVPN Plus two different overall scores, 88/100 in its ranking section and 90/100 elsewhere. Because of that discrepancy, the award is more reliable to report than either exact score. Test-Aankoop’s broader takeaway is that differences between the tested services are chiefly in speed, pricing structure and how providers handle user data.
| Priority | Test-Aankoop’s recommendation or finding | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Overall | ProtonVPN Plus was named best in test. | The comparison page has inconsistent overall scores for ProtonVPN Plus. |
| Streaming | Surfshark One, Windscribe Pro, ExpressVPN Advanced and NordVPN Plus are among the strongest options. | Results depend on the service and whether you connect from Belgium or while abroad. |
| Privacy | Windscribe Pro, Private Internet Access and ProtonVPN Plus are highlighted. | Distinguish consumer-test findings from provider statements about privacy. |
| Budget | Private Internet Access is described as the cheapest service in the test. | Test-Aankoop warns that introductory prices may be followed by higher costs. |
Test-Aankoop’s comparison covered CyberGhost VPN, ExpressVPN Advanced, NordVPN Plus, Norton VPN Standard, Private Internet Access, ProtonVPN Plus, Surfshark One and Windscribe Pro. It says none scored poorly, but that price structure, speed and data practices are where distinctions matter.

Which VPN is best for streaming Belgian TV or other services?
For streaming, Test-Aankoop names Surfshark One, Windscribe Pro, ExpressVPN Advanced and NordVPN Plus among its strongest options. That is a comparative result from its 2026 test, not a promise that any provider will unlock a particular catalogue on demand.
Direction matters. Test-Aankoop reports that Proton VPN could not access VRT MAX when connecting from abroad, while some foreign services worked when connecting from Belgium. That finding illustrates why “works for streaming” is too broad: a result for one service, location and direction does not establish compatibility in other cases.

- 【AC1200 Dual-band Wireless Router】Simultaneous dual-band with wireless speed up to 300 Mbps (2.4GHz) + 867 Mbps (5GHz). 2.4GHz band can handles some simple tasks like emails or web browsing while bandwidth intensive tasks such as gaming or 4K video streaming can be handled by the 5GHz band.*Speed tests are conducted on a local network. Real-world speeds may differ depending on your network configuration.*

- If you are travelling, check whether your specific Belgian service is accessible from the country you will visit.
- If you are in Belgium and want another country’s catalogue, verify that exact service and region rather than relying on a general streaming ranking.
- Streaming services can change VPN detection and access rules, so treat test results as a snapshot rather than a guarantee.
Which VPN should you choose for privacy?
Test-Aankoop recommends Windscribe Pro, Private Internet Access and ProtonVPN Plus for readers prioritising privacy. It reports that its Windscribe Pro test found no third-party data sharing. That is a finding from this consumer comparison; it is not the same as independently establishing every provider’s logging practices in all circumstances.
Proton says its VPN has a no-logs policy, open-source apps and recurring independent audits. Those are statements on Proton’s own Belgium product page, not independent comparative findings. Proton also lists a kill switch and Secure Core among its features. A VPN can change the network path and mask the IP address visible to services, but it does not make an account anonymous or replace strong passwords and multifactor authentication.

What do the speed tests say—and do they apply to Belgium?
A 2026 performance report by Artifact Security, published by NordVPN, compared NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Mullvad, ProtonVPN and Surfshark. It describes one testing round following AMTSO VPN Testing Guidelines, scoring throughput, stability, latency and connection time across 55 routes. The listed test origins were Frankfurt, London, Singapore, New York and San Francisco; Belgium was not an origin. These results offer comparative evidence, not a Belgium-specific household speed prediction.
| Provider | Artifact Security overall score, as reported by NordVPN |
|---|---|
| NordVPN | 91 |
| ExpressVPN | 84 |
| ProtonVPN | 83 |
| Surfshark | 81 |
| Mullvad | 70 |
In the report, NordVPN averaged 271.9 Mbps download speed on Windows and had a median of 568.4 Mbps on Windows; its median Android download speed was 526.6 Mbps, with Android testing conducted from London. The report says the median is more representative than the best-case peak. These are results of that test, not speeds a Belgian customer should expect: local ISP performance, device, protocol, route and time all affect outcomes.

Does your VPN need Belgian servers or a Belgian IP address?
If you want a Belgian IP while away from Belgium, choose a service that offers Belgian server access. Proton’s official Belgium page says it offers 11 servers in Belgium and Belgian IP access. It lists apps for Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, Android, iPhone and Android TV, as well as a kill switch, Secure Core and a 30-day money-back guarantee. These are Proton’s own product statements, not an independently verified inventory or a comparison with every other provider.
A Belgian IP may help a service see a connection as coming from Belgium, but it does not guarantee that the service will allow access. Account eligibility, service rules and VPN detection can still affect the result.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
How to compare VPN offers without overpaying
The available Test-Aankoop comparison supports a pricing caution rather than a current offer table: introductory promotions can be temporary, and the longer-term annual cost matters. No comparable current Belgian subscription or renewal prices are established here. Before paying, check the provider’s Belgian checkout directly and compare the full commitment.
- Confirm the introductory price and how long it lasts.
- Check the billing period, total contract cost and renewal amount.
- Verify whether VAT is included in the displayed price.
- Read the refund terms and note any eligibility window or conditions.
Do not compare a short introductory rate from one service with another service’s recurring rate. A low first payment can still lead to a higher annual cost after renewal.
Do you need a VPN router for your home?
No. A router is optional hardware: VPN apps on supported devices are sufficient if you want to protect only those devices. TechRadar identifies ExpressVPN Aircove as a VPN router whose groups can use different locations. That is a whole-home routing option for readers who want network-level setup, not a requirement for using a VPN subscription. Check current availability and compatibility before buying.

Quick Recap
How to make a practical choice
- Choose the main job. Start with streaming, privacy, a Belgian IP, ease of use or long-term cost rather than a universal “best” label.
- Check the relevant evidence. Use Test-Aankoop’s use-case findings for its 2026 comparison, and treat the Artifact Security speed results as a separate test whose routes did not originate in Belgium.
- Verify the exact service and location. For streaming or Belgian IP access, confirm that the provider offers the location and that the service you need works in the direction you plan to connect.
- Review the whole subscription term. Compare checkout price, renewal, VAT and refund terms before committing.
- Install only what you need. Start with apps on the devices you use; consider a router only if whole-home coverage or location groups justify the extra hardware.
