Best Vivo X300 Pro Camera Settings for Portraits, Night Photos and Moving Subjects

The best starting points are simple: use Portrait mode with ZEISS Natural Portrait at 50mm, 85mm or 135mm for people; use Night mode and the main camera for static low-light scenes; and use Snapshot or 135mm portrait snapshot for fleeting movement. Keep autofocus enabled on the rear cameras. When automation still produces blur or poor exposure, switch to Pro mode and increase shutter speed until the subject is sharp, raising ISO only as much as necessary.

The right choice depends on four things: whether the subject can remain still, how much light is available, the perspective and background separation you want, and how much computational processing you will accept. The settings below use the X300 Pro’s documented modes and focal lengths while clearly separating official capabilities from practical shooting advice.

Quick-start settings by subject

What you are photographing Mode Starting viewpoint Important controls Why this is the starting point
Still portrait in good light Portrait 50mm for an environmental portrait; 85mm for head and shoulders; 135mm when you can step back ZEISS Natural Portrait; beauty low or off; adjust bokeh to taste These focal lengths give progressively tighter framing and stronger subject separation without relying on a universal “best” lens.
Backlit face Portrait 50mm or 85mm Try HDR on, then compare a frame with HDR off if skin looks washed out or the background clips HDR behavior can vary by scene, especially with bright skies and lamps.
Static street, landscape or architecture at night Night Main camera first Brace the phone and keep people still during the exposure The main camera has the widest documented aperture, f/1.57, and optical image stabilization.
Night portrait Night Portrait or Night Scene tools, where available 50mm or 85mm Ask the subject to hold still; use the dedicated variable flash only when appropriate These tools combine portrait framing with low-light processing and support 24mm, 50mm and 85mm flash coverage.
Pet, child, sport or candid moment Snapshot; 135mm portrait snapshot when light allows Use the shortest focal length that gives the framing you need Autofocus on; if blur remains, use Pro and raise shutter speed Snapshot prioritizes timing, while the 135mm portrait snapshot option is intended for fleeting movement.
Moving subject in dim light Pro or Snapshot with a closer viewpoint Main camera or 3.5x telephoto rather than extreme digital zoom Raise shutter speed first; increase ISO only as needed A shorter camera-to-subject distance and brighter stabilized cameras preserve more light.

The table is a starting map, not a set of guaranteed presets. Vivo does not publish one shutter-speed or ISO value that works for every subject, distance and lighting condition.

Portrait settings that work in different situations

1. Select Portrait mode and ZEISS Natural Portrait

Open the Camera app, choose Portrait, and select ZEISS Natural Portrait as the rendering style. Vivo documents Portrait mode, the ZEISS Natural Portrait option, and five portrait focal lengths: 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Natural Portrait is the sensible default when you want recognizable skin texture and restrained processing. Portrait mode also provides beauty and bokeh controls. Beauty is not assigned an official “correct” number, so keep it low or turn it off when texture, freckles and age lines matter. Increase it only when you deliberately want a smoother appearance. Bokeh changes the simulated background blur; use enough to separate the subject, but check the hair, glasses and fingers for cutout errors before sharing the image.

2. Choose the focal length for perspective, not just magnification

Focal length Best use How to position yourself Trade-off
24mm Groups, full-body portraits and portraits that must include the surroundings Stay close enough to keep the subject prominent, but avoid placing a face at the extreme edge It shows more environment and can exaggerate near-camera features.
35mm Casual portraits and small groups with some context Use a moderate working distance It is less expansive than 24mm but still keeps the setting visible.
50mm Environmental portraits and a balanced everyday perspective Move back until the subject occupies the desired portion of the frame It offers less background compression than the longer options.
85mm Head-and-shoulders portraits and a flattering, tighter perspective Step back rather than moving the phone close to the face You need more working distance and enough light for the telephoto view.
135mm Strong isolation, distant subjects and portraits where you can stand well away Back up and keep the subject still while the phone captures Framing is narrower and camera shake or subject movement is more visible.

The 50mm, 85mm and 135mm choices above are practical photographic recommendations, not a ranking published by vivo. The useful principle is to select the perspective first and let the phone’s portrait processing handle separation second.

3. Handle backlight and high-contrast scenes deliberately

When a face is shaded against a bright window or sky, make one frame with HDR enabled. Then inspect the skin and the brightest background areas. If the face looks pale or the sky, sign or lamp loses detail, make a second frame with HDR disabled. An independent January 2026 review reported inconsistent HDR behavior, so HDR is a scene-by-scene decision rather than a setting to leave on unquestioned.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Place the subject so that the brightest source is not directly behind the head when you can control the pose. A slight turn toward open shade often produces more even skin than asking HDR to recover an extreme exposure difference.

4. Keep focus and distance consistent

The rear cameras support autofocus. Give the subject a moment to settle, keep the selected focal length fixed, and avoid walking toward the face while the shutter is being taken. At 135mm, even a small step by the subject changes framing and can defeat the portrait mask. For a moving person, use the moving-subject workflow rather than treating a 135mm still portrait as if it were static.

5. Use the front camera when the scene calls for it

Vivo describes the front camera as a 50MP autofocus camera with a wide angle and a natural-beauty algorithm. That combination suits self-portraits and group selfies when you need a wider field of view. Keep beauty restrained for natural texture, and check the edges of a group because a wide view can stretch people nearest the corners.

Night photography: which lens and mode to use

Static scenes: start with Night mode

For buildings, streets, food, interiors and landscapes that are not moving, select Night. Vivo’s manual says this mode is designed to produce brighter colors and sharper detail in low light. The phone needs time to combine exposures, so brace it against a solid surface or hold it with both hands and remain still until capture finishes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the main camera first when light is very low. Its documented f/1.57 aperture admits more light than the other listed cameras, and it has optical image stabilization. The main camera is therefore the most forgiving option for a dark street or room, even if a telephoto framing would look more dramatic.

When to use the 3.5x telephoto

The X300 Pro specification lists a 200MP APO telephoto and 3.5x optical zoom. In moderate night light, that camera can isolate a sign, architectural detail or distant subject without the perspective of the main camera. It also has optical stabilization, but stabilization cannot freeze a person walking through the frame. If the subject or your hands are moving, step closer and return to the main camera when possible.

An independent review described detailed 10x telephoto results and usable 30x results in its own testing. Those are review-specific observations, not a guaranteed result for every scene. At high magnification, atmospheric haze, hand movement and the phone’s computational processing become increasingly visible; use the lowest zoom that gives the composition you need.

Night portraits and flash coverage

For a person after dark, choose the official Night Portrait or Night Scene tool when it is available in your camera software. Use 50mm or 85mm for a natural portrait distance, ask the subject to hold still during capture, and avoid having them walk while the phone is collecting its night exposure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Vivo documents a variable flash with coverage for 24mm, 50mm and 85mm viewpoints. Use flash when the subject is close enough for it to illuminate them and the resulting look fits the scene; do not assume that flash will solve a distant subject or a bright city background. Check for shiny skin, red-eye and a darker background after the first frame.

Bright signs, lamps and mixed lighting

Bright point sources are where Night mode and HDR can make an otherwise good frame look artificial. A January 2026 review recommends activating Night Landscape manually for bright signs. If a face becomes washed out or lamps blow out, compare HDR on and off and change your position so the brightest source is not in the center of the exposure.

  1. Compose at the main camera’s native view before zooming.
  2. Brace the phone and wait for the Night capture to complete.
  3. Inspect faces, text and lamps at full size, not only in the thumbnail.
  4. If a person is blurred, repeat with the subject still, move closer, or change to Snapshot/Pro rather than extending the Night exposure.

Night mistakes to avoid

  • Do not use an extreme zoom simply because the preview looks sharp; the final frame may reveal shake and smearing.
  • Do not ask a person to pose naturally while also requiring them to remain motionless for a long exposure. Choose either a still portrait or a faster capture strategy.
  • Do not assume HDR is always superior around lamps, neon and backlit faces.
  • Do not judge a night frame before the phone has finished processing it.

Stopping motion blur on people, pets and action

Start with Snapshot mode

For a child running, a pet turning its head or a candid gesture, select Snapshot. Vivo lists Snapshot as a rear-camera mode and specifically positions the 135mm portrait snapshot option for fleeting motion when there is enough light. Keep autofocus enabled; all rear cameras are specified with autofocus support.

Use 135mm portrait snapshot only when you can stand back and the scene is bright enough. The narrow view gives strong separation and a distant working position, but it also magnifies every movement. If the subject is fast, close the distance and use the main camera or the 3.5x telephoto instead of forcing a long, dark viewpoint.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use Pro mode when automation chooses a slow exposure

If Snapshot still leaves a moving hand, face or paw blurred, open Pro. Vivo documents controls for exposure compensation (EV), white balance, autofocus/manual focus and other manual adjustments. Raise the shutter speed until the subject’s important detail is sharp. Increase ISO only as far as needed to maintain that shutter speed, accepting that a darker image may show more noise.

There is no official universal shutter or ISO preset for the X300 Pro. A slow walk, a sprint and a dim indoor gesture require different values, and the right setting changes with focal length. Make a test frame, inspect the eyes or the leading edge of the motion, and adjust again rather than copying a number from another scene.

Separate subject motion from camera shake

If a stationary person is blurred across the whole frame, stabilize the phone and check your grip. If the background is sharp but the face or hands are smeared, the subject is moving and a faster shutter is the remedy. Optical stabilization on the main and telephoto cameras helps with your hand movement; it cannot freeze the subject.

Low-light action strategy

  1. Move closer so the subject occupies more of the frame without extreme digital zoom.
  2. Choose the main camera for the most available light, or the 3.5x telephoto when there is enough illumination and you need its perspective.
  3. Keep autofocus enabled and place the subject where the camera can acquire focus before the decisive movement.
  4. In Pro mode, raise shutter speed until motion stops looking smeared.
  5. Lift ISO only after the shutter is fast enough; review shadow noise and highlights before committing to the scene.

This approach sacrifices some brightness or noise performance to preserve the moment. That trade-off is preferable to a bright photograph in which the subject’s face is irreparably blurred.

How the main camera modes differ

Mode Subject motion Available light Perspective and separation Processing and control Use it when
Portrait Best for still subjects; movement can confuse the portrait mask Good to moderate light Five documented focal lengths, 24mm through 135mm, with bokeh controls Highest portrait rendering control, including ZEISS Natural Portrait, beauty and bokeh You want a deliberate portrait and background separation matters.
Night Requires a steady phone and mostly still subjects Low light Main camera is the safest starting view; telephoto is useful when light permits Computational multi-frame exposure prioritizes brightness and detail You are photographing a static scene after dark.
Snapshot Designed for timing and fleeting movement Enough light for a fast capture Use the viewpoint that lets you frame quickly; 135mm portrait snapshot adds isolation Less dependence on a long night exposure; autofocus remains available The moment will disappear if you wait for a composed portrait.
Pro Best when you must control blur directly Any light, with ISO trade-offs Choose the camera and viewpoint first, then tune exposure Manual shutter/exposure workflow plus EV, white balance and focus controls Automation repeatedly selects an exposure that is too slow or too bright.

A practical decision workflow

  1. Ask whether the subject can stay still. If yes, Portrait or Night can use longer computational exposures. If no, begin with Snapshot.
  2. Assess the light before choosing the longest lens. In very dark scenes, use the main camera. Reserve 85mm, 135mm or 3.5x telephoto for situations bright enough to support a fast, clean capture.
  3. Choose perspective. Use 50mm for context, 85mm for head-and-shoulders framing, and 135mm when distance and isolation are more important than convenience.
  4. Set rendering. ZEISS Natural Portrait and restrained beauty preserve a natural look; bokeh is a creative control, not a requirement.
  5. Check the highlights. Compare HDR on and off around backlit faces, neon and lamps.
  6. Inspect motion. If details are smeared, switch to Snapshot or Pro and raise shutter speed instead of repeatedly taking the same Night exposure.
  7. Review the final frame at full size. Look at eyes, hair edges, text and lamps before changing lenses or zooming further.

Accessories that change the shooting setup

Two model-specific physical accessories are especially relevant to this camera. The official Grip Kit can make a two-handed, camera-style hold more stable and give you a more deliberate grip for portraits or night scenes. The ZEISS 2.35x telephoto extender is intended for users who need more reach than the built-in telephoto provides. An extender narrows the field of view and makes shake more obvious, so it is most useful with a steady subject, strong light and a firm support.

Neither accessory replaces the mode choices above. A grip cannot freeze a moving pet, and extra magnification cannot create light that is not present. Treat them as handling and reach tools rather than automatic image-quality upgrades.

Troubleshooting common X300 Pro results

Symptom Likely cause Adjustment
Face is soft while the background is sharp Subject movement during a computational exposure Use Snapshot or Pro, raise shutter speed, and ask the subject to pause for the capture.
Everything is blurred in a night frame Phone movement Brace the phone, hold it with both hands, and repeat Night mode; use a faster mode if people are moving.
Skin looks washed out against a bright sky HDR tone mapping did not suit the scene Compare HDR on and off, and reposition the subject into more even light.
Neon signs or lamps have no detail Highlight clipping or an unsuitable HDR/Night combination Try Night Landscape, compare HDR settings, and reduce the brightest source in the composition.
135mm portrait framing is difficult Insufficient working distance or too much subject movement Step back, switch to 85mm or 50mm, or use the 135mm snapshot option only in brighter conditions.
Telephoto night image is noisy or smeared Not enough light for the longer camera Return to the main camera, move closer, or use 3.5x only when the scene is bright enough.
Portrait cutout looks unnatural around hair Complex edges or excessive simulated bokeh Reduce bokeh strength, improve the background separation physically, and retake with the subject still.
Moving subject is bright but blurred Automatic exposure selected a shutter that is too slow Open Pro, increase shutter speed, then raise ISO only enough to recover exposure.

What the documented hardware and software support

Capability Documented detail Practical implication
Telephoto camera 200MP APO telephoto Useful for detailed distant subjects when light and stability are adequate.
Optical zoom 3.5x Provides a true telephoto viewpoint before computational zoom is added.
Portrait focal lengths 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm Lets you choose perspective and working distance rather than cropping one wide view.
Main-camera aperture f/1.57 A strong starting point for very low light.
Stabilization Optical stabilization on the main and telephoto cameras Reduces hand shake but does not stop a moving subject.
Autofocus All rear cameras support AF Keep autofocus enabled for people, pets and candid movement.
Front camera 50MP, autofocus, wide angle and natural-beauty processing Suitable for detailed self-portraits and group selfies when edge stretching is controlled.
Manual controls Pro mode includes EV, white balance and autofocus/manual-focus controls Use Pro when you need to trade ISO against shutter speed deliberately.

These capabilities explain the recommendations, but they do not guarantee a particular result. Distance, movement, lighting direction and the phone’s processing all affect the finished photograph.
