Best Video Doorbell Alternatives to Ring for Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home

The best Ring alternative depends on the smart-home platform and the action you need. For Apple Home and HomeKit Secure Video, start with the Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4. For Alexa or Google Home, the Aqara G4 and eufy Video Doorbell E340 are documented options, although each has different speaker, chime and storage requirements. If you want an Apple Home path from eufy, the Video Doorbell S4 requires a HomeBase S380. Check the exact model—not just the manufacturer—against the current platform directory before buying.

Quick recommendations by smart-home platform

There is no universal replacement that wins for every home. “Works with” can mean live-view streaming, a spoken announcement, two-way talk, automation triggers, secure recording or merely receiving an alert. Those functions are not interchangeable, so select the row that matches what you actually want to do.

Apple’s accessories directory identifies “Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4” and labels it “Supports HomeKit Secure Video” (Apple Home accessories). TechRadar likewise advises checking that the exact doorbell is listed for the intended platform rather than assuming every model from a compatible brand behaves the same way (TechRadar’s video-doorbell guide).

Why platform compatibility is the first decision

A doorbell can be excellent in its own app yet unsuitable for your home if it cannot deliver the function you expect in Apple Home, Alexa or Google Home. An integration may provide a notification but not a live stream, or stream video but omit two-way talk and automation events. A smart display may show a feed only when a compatible speaker or hub is present. Recorded video can remain in the manufacturer’s cloud even when a live view appears in your preferred app.

#1 Best Overall
Daxadripo Wireless Doorbell Camera Video Monitor with Display 4.5" Screen Indoor Visual Base Station, Two Way Talk, Smart AI Motion Detection, Night Vision, Cloud Storage.
  • 655-Foot Wireless Range. Built to Go the Distance: Advanced long-range transmission delivers a strong, stable connection up to 655 feet (200 meters) in open areas. Ideal for large homes, villas, and wide properties where reliability truly matters.
  • Built-In 4.5-Inch Color Display Screen.Instantly Clear: See who’s at your door at a glance, without reaching for your phone. The large integrated display makes everyday monitoring simple, natural, and effortless.
  • True Active Live View from the Base Station: More than passive alerts. Unlike standard doorbells that activate only when pressed, this base station lets you manually connect to your doorbell and access live video anytime—whenever you want to check in.
  • Two Way Communication: Enables real-time audio conversation with visitors through the doorbell camera monitor and indoor base station for enhanced security and convenience
  • Includes 512GB of Cloud Storage. Enjoy automatic cloud uploads with support for up to 512GB, ensuring your videos are safely stored and protected at all times. To view, download, and manage your recordings anytime, an optional cloud service is available and sold separately.

Before comparing camera resolution, ask these questions:

  • Do you need a live view on a phone, smart display or television?
  • Should a smart speaker announce a visitor, and do you need two-way talk from that device?
  • Must motion or doorbell events trigger automations?
  • Where should recordings be stored, for how long, and under whose account?
  • Can you run wiring, or must the doorbell operate on battery power?

Write down the required functions, then open the platform’s current compatibility directory and the manufacturer’s page for the exact model. Product software, regional availability, firmware and accessory requirements can change, so repeat that check immediately before purchase.

Best Apple Home and HomeKit Secure Video alternatives

Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4: the clearest HomeKit Secure Video choice

The G4 is the most directly documented option for an Apple-centered home. Apple lists the exact product as supporting HomeKit Secure Video, while Aqara describes Apple Home capabilities including iCloud video storage, local AI detection, HomePod notifications and streaming to Apple TV. Aqara also describes on-device facial recognition that can be used for automations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those features do not mean every recording or AI function is included without conditions. Aqara states that cloud storage is separate, so check the current iCloud plan and any Apple Home requirements for the recording features you intend to use. Treat “HomeKit Secure Video” as a specific recording and analysis path, not as a promise that every Aqara cloud feature moves into Apple Home.

The G4 is not limited to Apple devices. Aqara says it can stream to and support two-way talk on Alexa and Google Home, but a compatible smart speaker is required for those ecosystems. If your household uses a smart display without the required speaker or hub relationship, the advertised cross-platform behavior may not be available.

Use the official Aqara G4 documentation to confirm regional support, account requirements and current feature behavior.

eufy Video Doorbell S4: an Apple Home route that depends on HomeBase S380

eufy positions the Video Doorbell S4 as a HomeKit-compatible alternative only when it is used through HomeBase S380. That pairing condition is essential: buying the doorbell alone does not establish the documented Apple Home path. Confirm that the S4 and HomeBase S380 are sold and supported together in your region, and check current firmware compatibility before installation.

This is a different buying proposition from the G4. With the G4, Apple’s directory directly names the doorbell. With the S4, the hub is part of the compatibility architecture. A hub can affect placement, network wiring, setup time and the number of accessories you need, so include HomeBase S380 in both your budget and your physical installation plan.

  • Secure Cloud Storage: Protect your recordings with AES-128 encrypted cloud storage
  • Pre-Capture Recording: Cloud subscribers benefit from pre-capture functionality, ensuring the camera starts recording right at the moment motion begins - never miss a thing
  • Reliable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Connection: Optimized for 2.4GHz networks to deliver stable, uninterrupted performance. (Not compatible with 5GHz Wi-Fi.)
  • Exceptional Night Vision: Equipped with four powerful infrared LEDs and an advanced image sensor, providing sharp, detailed footage even in total darkness

eufy’s own comparison guide describes the S4’s HomeKit compatibility and the E340 as a non-HomeKit alternative. Read the current eufy HomeKit video-doorbell guide alongside the product listing rather than relying on an old retailer description.

Apple Home buying checklist

  • Confirm the exact model appears in Apple’s current accessory directory or is explicitly documented by the manufacturer.
  • For the G4, verify the iCloud plan and Apple Home requirements for secure recording.
  • For the S4, purchase and configure HomeBase S380; do not treat the S4 as a standalone HomeKit device.
  • Check whether the Apple Home function you need is live view, notifications, two-way talk, automations or recorded video.
  • Verify the doorbell’s region, firmware and account requirements at checkout and during setup.

Best Alexa and Google Home alternatives

Aqara G4 for smart-speaker announcements, streaming and talk

Aqara documents G4 streaming and two-way talk support for Alexa and Google Home. Its explicit qualification is important: “To support Google Home and Amazon Alexa, a compatible smart speaker is required.” Plan for that speaker relationship even if you intend to view video primarily on a phone. Confirm that your particular speaker or display is supported in your region and that it is signed into the account used during doorbell setup.

For an Alexa or Google household that may later add Apple devices, the G4 offers a documented multi-platform route, but each ecosystem still has its own setup and recording rules. Do not assume that a feature enabled in Apple Home automatically appears in Alexa or Google Home.

eufy Video Doorbell E340 for Alexa or Google installations

eufy’s E340 product page lists compatibility with Alexa devices and Google Voice Assistant devices. It also lists an existing mechanical chime, HomeBase S280 or S380, and Minibase Chime T8023 among compatible pairings. That gives the E340 several ways to produce an indoor alert, but each option changes the installation:

  • Existing mechanical chime: verify that your wiring and chime type meet eufy’s requirements before removing the old doorbell.
  • HomeBase S280 or S380: plan a location and network connection for the base station and check which functions require it.
  • Minibase Chime T8023: treat it as a separate accessory and confirm current availability and compatibility.
  • Alexa or Google device: use a supported device for the smart-home interaction you want, rather than assuming every speaker offers video or two-way talk.

The E340 is not the Apple Home choice in eufy’s own guide. If HomeKit Secure Video or Apple Home automations are a requirement, choose the G4 or investigate the S4 with HomeBase S380 instead.

One power detail is easy to miss: eufy says the E340’s battery must remain installed even when the doorbell is wired. A wired connection therefore does not mean you can discard the battery. Follow the E340 product documentation for the current wiring and charging instructions.

How to verify compatibility before buying

Use this process for any candidate, including models not listed here. It prevents a broad “works with Alexa” or “supports HomeKit” badge from hiding a missing function.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Name the platform and action. Write “Apple Home live view,” “Google speaker two-way talk,” “Alexa announcement,” or the exact automation you need. Avoid the vague requirement “works with my smart home.”
  2. Check the exact model. Search Apple’s directory or the manufacturer’s compatibility page for the complete model name and generation. A brand’s other doorbells may have different integrations.
  3. Read the accessory conditions. Note every required smart speaker, indoor chime, bridge, HomeBase or subscription. For the S4, HomeBase S380 is part of the Apple Home path; for the G4’s Alexa and Google functions, Aqara requires a compatible smart speaker.
  4. Separate live functions from recording. Confirm whether the listing promises alerts, live video, two-way audio, event clips, continuous recording or automations. These may be supported by different services.
  5. Check power and wiring. Decide whether the location supports wired power, battery charging or both. Confirm whether a battery remains necessary in wired mode, as with the E340.
  6. Verify region and software. Look for country-specific availability, required accounts, current firmware and app versions. Recheck after installation if a feature is missing.
  7. Plan the network and physical placement. Locate any hub near a reliable network connection, and make sure the camera can see faces and packages without being blocked by a wall, overhang or neighboring property.

Compare the installation dependencies, not just the camera

Aqara G4 Confirm the current wired/battery requirements for your region and installation. Compatible smart speaker required for Alexa or Google support; Apple Home features have their own iCloud requirements. Apple lists G4 for HomeKit Secure Video; Aqara documents Apple Home, Alexa and Google functions.
eufy E340 Battery must remain installed even in wired mode, according to eufy. Can pair with an existing mechanical chime, HomeBase S280/S380, Minibase Chime T8023, Alexa devices or Google Voice Assistant devices. eufy documents Alexa and Google pairings; its guide describes E340 as non-HomeKit.
eufy S4 plus HomeBase S380 Confirm the current S4 power arrangement and regional instructions. HomeBase S380 is required for the documented HomeKit compatibility. eufy documents HomeKit compatibility through HomeBase S380.

The available documentation does not establish a complete, controlled comparison of camera coverage, image quality, latency, battery runtime, storage fees or retention. Do not treat this table as a performance ranking. Use it to identify the dependencies that can make an otherwise compatible doorbell impractical.

Camera coverage and package visibility

Platform integration cannot compensate for a poor mounting position. Before drilling, stand where a visitor will wait and check the height of faces, the threshold and the package-drop area. A narrow field of view can show a face but miss a parcel; a low mounting point can capture packages while cutting off taller visitors. Check the manufacturer’s current installation diagram for the model’s permitted angle and mounting accessories.

Also inspect what the smart-home platform actually displays. A doorbell may send an alert with a thumbnail while requiring the manufacturer’s app for recorded clips. If package visibility or a particular event type matters, test that workflow during the return period rather than inferring it from a compatibility badge.

Storage, privacy and subscription questions

Storage is a separate decision from platform support. Ask where recordings are kept, how long they remain available, whether a fee is recurring, and which account can view or delete them. The documented sources here do not provide a complete current fee, retention or performance table across the G4, E340 and S4, so verify those values directly before purchase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the G4, Aqara describes iCloud video storage as part of its Apple Home feature set but separately notes that cloud storage is not included by default. Check the current Apple iCloud requirements and Aqara’s account terms for your region. If you prefer local storage, confirm exactly which component stores video and whether that storage is available in the smart-home app or only in the manufacturer’s app.

Consider privacy at the camera and account level:

  • Choose activity zones that exclude neighboring windows and public areas where possible.
  • Use unique account credentials and enable available two-factor authentication.
  • Decide who can view live video and download clips.
  • Review retention and deletion controls before enabling continuous or event recording.
  • Understand whether AI analysis occurs on the doorbell, on a hub or in a cloud service. Aqara describes local AI detection and on-device facial recognition for the G4; confirm how those features operate in your region.

Power and chime decisions

Battery installation

Battery operation avoids new wiring but introduces charging intervals, cold-weather effects and the need to remove or access the unit. Confirm how the manufacturer defines battery life; a quoted runtime can depend on motion volume, temperature, live-view use and network conditions. The documentation supplied here does not establish comparable runtime figures for these models, so do not choose between them on an unverified number.

Wired installation

Existing wiring can provide convenient power and preserve a mechanical chime, but voltage and transformer compatibility matter. Turn off power at the breaker before handling wiring and follow the model-specific instructions. The E340’s battery-retention requirement is a reminder that “wired” can mean supplemental power rather than a battery-free installation.

Indoor alerts

An indoor alert may come from a mechanical chime, a proprietary chime, a hub or a smart speaker. Decide whether the alert must work when phones are muted, whether visitors should be able to start two-way talk through a display, and whether the alert still works during an internet outage. Match the chime to the exact model: eufy lists several E340 pairings, but that list does not automatically apply to another eufy doorbell.

Common failure modes and fixes

The doorbell appears compatible, but no live video opens

Check whether the platform supports live streaming for that exact model or only notifications. Confirm the doorbell and smart speaker/display use the same household account, update firmware and app software, and re-run the platform’s device-discovery process. If the model requires a hub, verify that the hub is online before troubleshooting the display.

Notifications arrive, but there is no two-way talk

Two-way audio may be limited to certain speaker or display models. Recheck the manufacturer’s function list, microphone permissions and account assignments. For the G4 on Alexa or Google, confirm the compatible smart-speaker requirement; do not assume a phone notification proves speaker-based talk is supported.

The E340 works in the manufacturer’s app but not in Apple Home

That behavior is consistent with eufy’s guide, which describes E340 as a non-HomeKit alternative. Use the G4 for the documented HomeKit Secure Video route, or consider the S4 with HomeBase S380 if you specifically want eufy’s Apple Home path.

The S4 does not appear in Apple Home

Confirm that HomeBase S380 is installed, online and paired with the S4. Check both devices’ firmware and the current eufy compatibility instructions. The S4’s documented HomeKit support depends on the HomeBase, so troubleshooting the doorbell alone can miss the actual cause.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no indoor ring after installation

Check the selected chime type, wiring and volume settings. For an E340, verify whether you selected the existing mechanical chime, HomeBase S280/S380 or Minibase Chime T8023 and whether that accessory is online. A smart-speaker announcement is a separate path from a traditional chime.

A practical decision framework

  1. Apple-first household: choose the G4 when direct HomeKit Secure Video documentation is the priority. Choose the S4 only when you accept the required HomeBase S380 pairing and have verified current support.
  2. Alexa or Google household: compare the G4 and E340 by the speaker, chime and storage arrangement you already have. The G4 requires a compatible smart speaker for Alexa or Google functions; the E340 lists Alexa and Google devices among its pairing options.
  3. Mixed household: identify which platform must handle recording and which only needs alerts or live view. Then verify each function separately instead of selecting on the basis of a single “works with” label.
  4. No existing wiring: favor a model whose battery and charging routine fit your entrance, and check whether a battery remains required if you later add wiring.
  5. Privacy or subscription sensitivity: map local, hub and cloud storage before buying. Confirm fees, retention and account controls directly because those values are not established uniformly for the models covered here.

What to check on installation day

  • Photograph existing wiring and chime terminals before disconnecting anything.
  • Shut off circuit power before touching doorbell wiring.
  • Install the required battery, even in wired mode where the instructions require it.
  • Place any HomeBase or chime where it has reliable power and network access.
  • Complete the manufacturer’s setup first, then add the doorbell to Apple Home, Alexa or Google Home.
  • Test a daytime and nighttime live view, a doorbell press, motion detection, two-way talk and the indoor chime.
  • Confirm that recordings appear in the intended service and that another household member has only the permissions you want.
  • Stand at the threshold and place a test package to verify face and parcel coverage.

What the available evidence does—and does not—establish

The strongest documented distinctions are platform and accessory requirements: Apple lists the G4 for HomeKit Secure Video; Aqara documents G4 features across Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home with a compatible smart speaker required for the latter two; eufy lists E340 pairings for Alexa, Google devices, chimes and HomeBase units while describing it as non-HomeKit; and eufy documents S4 HomeKit compatibility through HomeBase S380.

Those facts are enough to narrow a purchase, but not to declare one model the overall winner. There is no like-for-like evidence here for current prices, subscription fees, retention periods, tested latency, image-quality scores, package-detection accuracy or battery runtime. Verify those items for your country, firmware and installation before committing.

Bottom line

Start with the platform and the exact action you need. Pick the Aqara G4 for the most directly documented HomeKit Secure Video route, the G4 or eufy E340 for documented Alexa or Google options, and the eufy S4 only with HomeBase S380 when you want its Apple Home path. Then confirm power, chime, hub, storage and regional requirements for the exact model; those details determine whether the doorbell will work as expected after installation.
