Best Value 85-Inch TVs: Which Big-Screen Buy Fits Your Room?

For most shoppers, the value decision comes down to the TCL QM7L, Hisense U7SG and TCL QM7K—not the most expensive 85-inch television. The QM7L is the budget-oriented choice for a dim or moderately lit room, the U7SG is the stronger fit for a bright main room and serious console gaming, and the QM7K is another compelling sub-$1,500 option when its viewing-angle and audio limitations are acceptable. A premium 2026 Samsung R85H shows how quickly the price rises at the top end, but its $3,999.99 listing is not an apples-to-apples value result.

Prices and stock change quickly at this size. Use the figures below as dated reference points, then check the exact 85-inch suffix, retailer, delivery charge and installation cost on the day you buy.

Quick answer: the best value depends on your room

Model Best for Key specifications Important compromises Price evidence
TCL QM7L, 85-inch Lowest-cost route to a feature-rich 85-inch set in a dim or moderately lit room 4K; 144 Hz; two HDMI 2.1 ports Reflection handling is notably weaker than the Hisense U7SG $1,497.99 at Amazon US in an October 2026 TechRadar deal listing; previous price stated as $2,499.99
Hisense U7SG, 85-inch Bright main rooms and gaming setups that can use four HDMI 2.1 ports 4K; 165 Hz native refresh; Dolby Vision; four HDMI 2.1 ports More visible local-dimming haloing around bright details or subtitles than the Sony BRAVIA 7 II No current price was published in the cited listings; use the exact Amazon 85-inch listing
TCL QM7K, 85-inch Buyers targeting an 85-inch TV under $1,500 with strong HDR brightness 4K; 144 Hz; Google TV; Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG; two HDMI 2.1 ports Off-angle and bright-room viewing can be weaker; built-in audio is weak Tom’s Guide names it its best 85-inch TV under $1,500; verify the live price
Samsung R85H, 85-inch (2026) Premium buyers who specifically want a Micro RGB 4K Vision AI set 85-inch; 4K; Micro RGB; Vision AI Its price places it in a premium tier rather than a value comparison $3,999.99 on Samsung’s US 2026 product page; verify current availability

These labels describe different buyer priorities, not a universal ranking. A television that is excellent for a bright room can be a poor choice for a dark movie room, and a lower price does not compensate for reflections, insufficient HDMI inputs or a screen that will not fit through your doorway.

How much should an 85-inch TV cost?

The clearest dated value reference is the 85-inch TCL QM7L listed at $1,497.99 in an Amazon US deal page captured in October 2026. That page gave a previous price of $2,499.99, but the lower figure is a time-specific deal listing, not a guaranteed MSRP or permanent street price. Check that the listing says 85 inches and QM7L—not a smaller size or a similar suffix—before treating it as a bargain.

  • 4K UPSCALING: Upgrades what you watch to crisp 4K clarity. Upgrade your favorite shows, movies and more. Experience incredible details and clarity in every frame, even from lower-quality sources, with advanced upscaling technology.

The Samsung R85H illustrates a separate premium tier at $3,999.99 on Samsung’s US 2026 model page. Its price is useful for setting expectations about premium Micro RGB technology, not for proving that it delivers twice the value of a $1,500 Mini-LED set. No current price for the U7SG or QM7K was published in the source material, so compare live listings rather than relying on an old sale headline.

Calculate the real purchase cost

  • Television: confirm the exact 85-inch model suffix and whether the price is a one-time promotion.
  • Delivery: large televisions may have higher freight charges or room-of-choice fees than standard parcel delivery.
  • Installation: add professional setup if you cannot safely lift and position a panel of this size.
  • Mounting hardware: the correct mount depends on the television’s VESA pattern, weight and wall type; those values must come from the specific manufacturer manual.
  • Returns: check the retailer’s oversized-item return policy before removing protective film or scheduling installation.

Pick the right model for your room

TCL QM7L: the budget-value starting point

RTINGS lists the QM7L as its best budget choice in the 80–85-inch category, which makes it the logical first model to price. The 85-inch version combines 4K resolution, a 144 Hz refresh rate and two HDMI 2.1 ports. Those features cover 4K gaming at high frame rates on compatible hardware and leave one HDMI 2.1 input for a second current-generation console, PC or sound system.

The major caveat is the screen’s reflection handling. RTINGS warns that it is notably worse than the Hisense U7SG. In a room with uncovered windows, lamps opposite the screen or light-colored walls, reflections can veil shadow detail even when the panel is bright enough. The QM7L is therefore better suited to a dim or moderately lit room than to a sunlit living room.

The October 2026 Amazon US listing at $1,497.99 makes the QM7L a strong value candidate if that price is still available. Treat the listing as volatile: confirm stock, seller, delivery date and the 85-inch size at checkout.

Hisense U7SG: the bright-room and gaming alternative

RTINGS places the U7SG in its lower mid-range 80–85-inch category. It is the better starting point when your main viewing space is bright and you want more gaming connectivity. The 85-inch model is listed with 4K resolution, a 165 Hz native refresh rate, Dolby Vision and four HDMI 2.1 ports. Four high-bandwidth inputs can accommodate multiple consoles, a gaming PC and an eARC-connected receiver without constantly swapping cables, provided the connected devices support the relevant modes.

Brightness alone does not eliminate every bright-room problem, so keep seating and window position in mind. A screen can be bright yet still show distracting reflections. U7SG’s positioning as a bright-room option is useful, but you should inspect the display in your own lighting if a retailer allows returns.

Its local-dimming behavior has a specific trade-off. RTINGS reports more visible haloing than on the Sony BRAVIA 7 II, especially around bright details or subtitles against a dark background. Haloing is a glow that can appear when a local-dimming zone illuminates nearby dark pixels. It is most obvious during letterboxed films, star fields and white subtitles, and less important in ordinary bright daytime programming. Decide whether four HDMI 2.1 inputs and bright-room performance matter more to you than cleaner dark-scene transitions.

TCL QM7K: another under-$1,500 candidate

Tom’s Guide names the QM7K its best 85-inch TV under $1,500. That is the publication’s editorial ranking, not a universal test result, but it identifies a useful alternative to the QM7L. The set offers 4K resolution, a 144 Hz refresh rate, Google TV and support for Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG. Two HDMI 2.1 ports support the highest-bandwidth gaming connections, while the remaining inputs serve other sources.

Tom’s Guide reports strong HDR brightness and color. It also flags three practical limitations: viewing quality can suffer off-axis, bright-room performance is not ideal in some conditions, and the built-in speakers are weak. Plan to sit reasonably close to the screen’s centerline, control direct light and budget for a soundbar or receiver if clear dialogue and cinematic impact matter.

Hisense 85" E6 Cinema Series Hi-QLED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV (85E6QF) - AI Light Sensor, Dolby Vision · Atmos, Voice Remote with Alexa, Motion Rate 120, HDR 10+ Adaptive, Game Mode Plus
  • HI-QLED COLOR: Experience a visual treat with Hi-QLED Color. Every frame is rich, vibrant, and true-to-life, ensuring that every shade, from soft pastels to bold and striking tones, stands out in stunning clarity
  • TOTAL HDR SOLUTION: See every basket and goal in all its glory. Total HDR Solution distinguishes between the colors you perceive on screen. That means ink-black blacks, not muddled tones and brighter, more vibrant colors with every HDR format, including Dolby Vision, HDR 10+Adaptive, HDR 10 and HLG
  • DOLBY VISION AND DOLBY ATMOS: The fusion of Dolby Vision HDR imaging and Dolby Atmos sound transforms your TV into an entertainment powerhouse. These image and sound technologies from the cinema, now brought together for the home, provide amazing realism that you’ll see, hear, and feel like never before
  • FIRE TV: Fire TV seamlessly integrates your favorite live channels and apps on the home screen, or you can browse the Channel Guide in Live
  • PRESS & ASK | ALEXA: Just press and ask Alexa to find, launch, and control your content. Go beyond streaming to check sports scores, set timers, reminders, and more

Because both the QM7K and QM7L use 144 Hz specifications and two HDMI 2.1 ports, the choice should not be made on refresh rate alone. Compare the live price, reflection behavior, smart-TV preference, return policy and whether you already own external audio.

Samsung R85H: a premium reference point, not the value winner

Samsung’s official US page identifies the R85H as a 2026 85-inch Micro RGB 4K Vision AI TV and lists it at $3,999.99. That makes it a premium comparison point for shoppers who specifically want the brand’s Micro RGB approach and processing features. The available evidence does not establish that it provides twice the real-world picture value of the lower-priced candidates, so do not treat its higher price as a simple quality multiplier.

Picture quality: brightness, reflections and dark scenes

Bright rooms

Start by identifying the light that reaches the screen during your actual viewing hours. Windows behind or beside the seating position, ceiling fixtures and lamps opposite the panel are more important than a room’s general description as “bright.” The U7SG is the most explicitly bright-room-oriented candidate in this group. The QM7L’s weaker reflection handling makes it a riskier choice where direct light cannot be controlled. The QM7K also carries a bright-room viewing caveat from Tom’s Guide.

Close curtains or reposition lamps if possible. If you cannot change the room, prioritize the model that handles reflections acceptably rather than choosing solely by peak brightness or sale price.

Dark scenes and local dimming

Mini-LED and QLED televisions use zones behind the LCD panel to raise brightness in highlights while keeping other areas darker. The number and behavior of those zones matter more to your eyes than a generic “local dimming” label. On the U7SG, the documented compromise is visible haloing around bright objects and subtitles against black. This does not mean every dark scene looks poor; it means high-contrast edges can reveal the dimming system.

Watch a film with white subtitles over a dark image if you can test a set. Look for a glow that expands beyond the letters, blooming around stars or a bright logo, and crushed shadow detail. Use the retailer’s return window for an at-home check when an in-store evaluation is impossible.

Viewing angle

Large televisions are often installed in open-plan rooms where some seats are far off center. Tom’s Guide specifically notes off-angle limitations for the QM7K. If people regularly watch from a kitchen island or side sofa, map the seating positions before buying. A model that looks excellent from the central couch may lose contrast and color from the sides.

Gaming specifications that actually matter

Gaming factor QM7L U7SG QM7K
Native refresh rate listed 144 Hz 165 Hz 144 Hz
HDMI 2.1 ports listed Two Four Two
Why it matters Suitable for high-frame-rate console or PC play on compatible inputs More high-bandwidth inputs for several devices High-refresh gaming plus broad HDR-format support
Check before purchase Which numbered inputs support the required mode Whether all four inputs support the desired resolution, refresh and VRR combination Whether two HDMI 2.1 inputs are enough for your setup

A 144 Hz or 165 Hz panel does not make every game run at that rate. The console, PC graphics hardware, game mode and cable all have to support the chosen resolution and refresh rate. Verify variable refresh rate support, automatic low-latency mode, 4K bandwidth and the input numbers in the exact 85-inch model’s manual. Do not assume that a smaller size in the same series has identical ports or firmware.

Choose by device count

  • One console and a streaming box: two HDMI 2.1 inputs may be sufficient, especially if your receiver does not need a high-bandwidth connection.
  • Two consoles plus a gaming PC: four HDMI 2.1 ports on the U7SG provide more flexibility and reduce cable swapping.
  • Receiver or soundbar using eARC: reserve the eARC input before assigning the other ports; check whether that input also supports the gaming mode you need.

Streaming, HDR and sound

The QM7K’s listed smart platform is Google TV, with Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG support. Published QM7L and U7SG specifications emphasize refresh rate, HDMI connectivity and Dolby Vision for the U7SG rather than a complete format inventory. Confirm the exact app catalog, voice-control features and HDR support for your region before ordering, because model names and software availability can differ by country.

Built-in audio is a decision point rather than an afterthought. Tom’s Guide calls the QM7K’s speakers weak. An 85-inch picture can make thin dialogue or limited bass more noticeable, especially in a large room. If you do not plan to add external audio, listen to the television at a representative volume and check dialogue clarity. If you will use a soundbar or receiver, verify eARC support, cable routing and whether the chosen HDMI port remains available for your gaming equipment.

Installation and room-fit checklist

An 85-inch screen is a logistical project. Measure the wall, stand location, doorway, hallway turns, elevator and stairwell before paying. The diagonal measurement alone does not tell you the carton size or stand width.

  1. Measure access routes. Record the narrowest doorway and the tightest turn. Compare those measurements with the boxed television dimensions in the manufacturer’s specifications.
  2. Measure the viewing wall. Leave space for ventilation, power, HDMI cables and any soundbar. Confirm that the furniture can support the stand’s width and depth.
  3. Choose stand or wall mount. For a mount, use the exact 85-inch manual to confirm VESA pattern, television weight and the mount’s load rating. Do not infer compatibility from a different size in the same series.
  4. Check wall structure. Identify studs or use a suitable masonry fixing system. A mount rated for the weight is not automatically safe on every wall.
  5. Plan cable paths. Label consoles, streaming devices and eARC equipment before mounting. Leave enough slack to remove the television for service.
  6. Inspect on delivery. Photograph the carton, look for impact damage and test the panel, ports, Wi-Fi and speakers before the return period expires.

Mini-LED versus OLED and 8K expectations

Category-level guidance from TechRadar describes Mini-LED QLED televisions as generally brighter and less expensive than the best OLED models. That is a broad category observation, not a guarantee for every QM7L, U7SG or QM7K scene. Mini-LED is attractive for large bright rooms and HDR highlights; OLED remains a different technology with different strengths and weaknesses. The candidates covered here are all evaluated as 4K-class choices, not 8K upgrades.

Native 8K content remains limited, while 4K streaming is widespread, according to the same category guidance. For an 85-inch purchase, spend first on the right room performance, screen uniformity, connectivity and installation plan rather than paying a premium simply for a larger resolution number that your sources rarely use.

A practical buying process

  1. Set an installed budget. Include delivery, mounting or a sound system instead of comparing television prices in isolation.
  2. Classify the room. Note direct reflections, daytime viewing and the seats that are off center.
  3. Count high-bandwidth devices. Include consoles, a PC, an eARC receiver and any device you may add within the television’s life.
  4. Shortlist the exact suffix. Confirm 85 inches, model year, region and input layout; similarly named models are not interchangeable.
  5. Check a same-day listing. Treat the QM7L’s $1,497.99 October 2026 deal as a snapshot, not a promise, and verify stock and seller.
  6. Read the return terms. Large-item returns can involve pickup fees, restocking rules or limited inspection windows.
  7. Test the weaknesses. Use dark subtitles for haloing, a window reflection for glare, side seating for viewing angle and dialogue-heavy content for audio.

Which 85-inch TV should you buy?

Choose the TCL QM7L when the dated deal price is available and your room is dim or moderately lit. It provides 144 Hz and two HDMI 2.1 ports at the lowest clearly documented price in this comparison, but reflections are its defining risk.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the Hisense U7SG when a bright main room, Dolby Vision, 165 Hz gaming and four HDMI 2.1 inputs outweigh the possibility of more visible halos around bright objects and subtitles. Confirm the live price for the exact 85-inch listing before deciding.

Choose the TCL QM7K when you want Google TV, broad listed HDR-format support and strong reported HDR brightness under a $1,500 target. Keep the television centered to your seating, plan for external audio if needed and accept that only two HDMI 2.1 ports are listed.

Choose the Samsung R85H only if its premium Micro RGB feature set and 2026 positioning justify a $3,999.99-class purchase for you. It is a premium alternative, not the value answer for most buyers comparing these models.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
