For most Xbox Ally owners, the ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock is the best compact choice. It combines charging, HDMI display output and two USB-A ports in a travel-friendly design. For a permanent desk setup, high-refresh monitor or a larger set of accessories, choose the ROG Bulwark Dock 2025 DG300, whose 7-in-1 layout adds HDMI 2.1, USB-C, three USB-A ports, Ethernet and an audio jack.
The right dock depends on the handheld model, the monitor mode you want and how much power your setup needs. The standard ROG Xbox Ally has two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0. The ROG Xbox Ally X has one USB4 Type-C port with DisplayPort 2.1, Power Delivery 3.0 and Thunderbolt 4 compatibility, plus a second USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort 2.1 and Power Delivery 3.0.

Why the Ally and Ally X ports change the decision
A USB-C dock is only as capable as the USB-C port, dock electronics, cable, charger and display working together. The two handhelds do not expose identical USB-C interfaces, so a dock that is merely compatible may not deliver the same headroom on both models.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
ROG Xbox Ally port layout
- Two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports.
- DisplayPort 1.4 output over USB-C.
- Power Delivery 3.0 support.
This is enough for an external monitor, charging and normal USB accessories. For a high-refresh display, the actual mode still depends on the dock’s HDMI implementation, the HDMI cable and the monitor.
ROG Xbox Ally X port layout
- One USB4 Type-C port with DisplayPort 2.1, Power Delivery 3.0 and Thunderbolt 4 compatibility.
- One USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort 2.1 and Power Delivery 3.0.
The USB4 port provides the most bandwidth headroom for a dock and several fast peripherals, although a dock cannot create a display mode that its own HDMI hardware does not support. When you have a choice, connect a bandwidth-heavy dock to the Ally X USB4 port and reserve the second port for a separate accessory or charger only when your setup requires it.
ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock: the compact pick
Xbox Wire describes this model as a portable dock that powers the Xbox Ally, outputs to a big screen through HDMI and connects peripherals through dual USB-A ports. That makes it the straightforward solution for a television, hotel desk or travel bag: one connection to the handheld replaces a separate display adapter and USB hub.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
What it does well
- Simple travel setup: HDMI handles the screen while the two USB-A ports accommodate a controller, keyboard, mouse, storage device or other standard USB accessory.
- Charging is built in: the dock is rated for 100W USB-C power delivery, subject to the charger and the handheld’s own charging requirements.
- Small footprint: fewer ports mean less bulk and fewer cables than a full desktop hub.
- Lower decision complexity: if you only need a screen, power and one or two USB-A accessories, there are no unused desktop ports to manage.
Where its limits matter
- The published description does not specify a maximum HDMI resolution or refresh rate. Do not buy it on the assumption that it will deliver 4K at 144Hz.
- There is no Ethernet or integrated audio jack listed, so wired networking and analog audio require another adapter or a different dock.
- Two USB-A ports can be restrictive if you use several storage devices, a wired network adapter and multiple input devices at once.
Choose this dock when portability and basic TV or monitor connectivity matter more than expansion. It is the best fit for a handheld that moves between rooms or travels frequently.
ROG Bulwark Dock 2025 DG300: the desktop and high-refresh pick
The DG300 is a 7-in-1 desktop hub with HDMI 2.1, one USB-C connection, three USB-A ports, Ethernet and an audio jack. Xbox Wire lists support for up to 4K at 144Hz or 8K at 30Hz. Those figures describe the dock’s stated capability; the Ally model, HDMI cable, monitor input and selected refresh mode must also support the desired signal.
Why it is better for a desk
- HDMI 2.1: the newer HDMI interface is the reason this model is the appropriate starting point for a high-refresh 4K monitor.
- More USB capacity: three USB-A ports plus USB-C leave room for input devices, storage and other peripherals without an extra hub.
- Ethernet: a wired network connection is useful for large game downloads, streaming and situations where Wi-Fi is unreliable.
- Audio output: the integrated audio jack can simplify a monitor-and-speaker setup.
- Longer-term flexibility: the extra connections make it less likely that you will replace the dock when your desk gains another accessory.
What to verify before expecting 4K/144Hz
- Confirm that the monitor has an HDMI input capable of the target mode; some displays expose their highest refresh rate only through a particular input.
- Use an HDMI cable rated for the bandwidth required by the selected resolution and refresh rate.
- Connect the dock to the Ally X USB4 port when possible, or to either compatible USB-C port on the standard Ally.
- In the operating system’s display settings, select the monitor’s native resolution and desired refresh rate. If the mode is absent, test a lower refresh rate before assuming the dock is defective.
The DG300 is the stronger choice for a fixed workstation, but its extra capability is unnecessary if your only goal is to connect the handheld to a television with a controller.

Power planning: 100W delivery versus ASUS’s 130W guidance
Power figures on a dock can describe different points in the chain. A dock may advertise USB-C Power Delivery output while also requiring a high-wattage input charger to maintain handheld charging when a monitor and several peripherals are attached.
Both named docks are associated with 100W USB-C power delivery in the published specifications. ASUS separately recommends the ROG Bulwark Dock (2025) DG300 or another 130W-capable dock when connecting an external monitor, keyboard, mouse or other accessories to the ROG Xbox Ally. Treat that recommendation as a power-planning warning: verify the dock’s input rating, the wattage of the charger you plug into it and the power it can actually pass to the handheld under load. Do not infer that every 100W charger will provide 130W, and do not assume that a dock’s headline rating equals continuous power available to the handheld after the dock and peripherals consume power.
Use this power checklist
- Use the dock’s designated USB-C power-input port, not a data-only USB-C port.
- Check whether a charger is included. If it is not, use a compatible USB-C Power Delivery charger with the wattage specified for the dock and handheld setup.
- For a monitor plus keyboard, mouse, storage and networking, favor the higher-capacity power plan ASUS recommends rather than choosing solely by port count.
- If charging slows or the battery drains while gaming, disconnect nonessential USB devices and test with a higher-rated, compatible charger.
- Keep the power cable and HDMI cable within the dock maker’s stated requirements; an under-rated cable can prevent the negotiated mode you expect.
Choose by the way you will use the handheld
Traveling with a television or hotel monitor
Pick the ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock. Its HDMI output and two USB-A ports cover the common travel kit: a screen, gamepad and perhaps a keyboard or mouse. Pack the dock, its power supply, an HDMI cable and the USB-C cable used to connect the dock to the Ally. A compact dock is easier to move and quicker to troubleshoot because there are fewer connections.

Building a permanent gaming desk
Pick the ROG Bulwark Dock 2025 DG300. Ethernet, an audio jack and four USB ports in total reduce cable swapping. The HDMI 2.1 output also gives you a path to the dock’s stated 4K/144Hz capability, provided every other component supports it.
Using a 4K high-refresh monitor
The DG300 is the only one of these two docks with a published 4K-at-144Hz specification. Still, compare the complete signal path: the Ally or Ally X port, dock, HDMI cable and monitor input. The standard Ally’s DisplayPort 1.4 USB-C implementation and the Ally X’s DisplayPort 2.1 implementation are different, so the same monitor configuration can have different bandwidth margins on the two handhelds.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Running wired networking and several USB devices
The DG300 is the practical choice because it includes Ethernet, three USB-A ports and USB-C. The 100W Gaming Charger Dock can handle only the two USB-A connections listed for it; adding Ethernet or more devices would require another hub and could complicate power allocation.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Using an Ally X with a bandwidth-heavy setup
Connect the dock to the Ally X USB4 Type-C port when your layout permits. USB4, DisplayPort 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4 compatibility give the Ally X more interface headroom than the standard Ally’s DisplayPort 1.4 ports, but the dock’s own HDMI specification remains the practical limit for the external display.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Connection and setup procedure
- Prepare the hardware. Place the dock where its HDMI, power and USB cables can reach without strain. Confirm that the display is set to the HDMI input you plan to use.
- Connect power to the dock. Plug the USB-C Power Delivery charger into the dock’s power-input port first. Use the wattage appropriate to the dock and the connected workload.
- Connect the dock to the handheld. Plug the dock’s host cable into a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort and Power Delivery. On Ally X, use the USB4 port for the most demanding dock arrangement when possible.
- Attach the display. Connect HDMI from the dock to the monitor or television, then turn on the display and select its matching input.
- Add peripherals. Connect the keyboard, mouse, controller, storage, Ethernet cable and headphones as needed. On the compact dock, stay within its two listed USB-A ports.
- Set the display mode. Open Windows Settings > System > Display, select the external screen and choose the resolution and refresh rate you want. Start with the monitor’s recommended mode; if the screen flickers or the desired rate is unavailable, test a lower rate and check the cable.
- Check charging. Confirm that the handheld reports external power while the game and peripherals are running. If it does not, unplug extra devices and recheck the charger, dock input and host connection.
Troubleshooting common dock problems
The monitor says there is no signal
- Confirm that the monitor is on the correct HDMI input and that the HDMI cable is fully seated at both ends.
- Disconnect the dock from the handheld, leave the dock powered, then reconnect the host cable. This renegotiates the USB-C display connection.
- Try the other compatible USB-C port on the standard Ally. On Ally X, test the USB4 port first, then the second USB-C port.
- Temporarily remove USB peripherals. If video returns, the problem may be power allocation or a peripheral causing the dock to reset.
- Set a conservative resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. If that works, raise the mode gradually while checking the cable and monitor specifications.
The image works but high refresh is missing
- Verify that the monitor input, not just the monitor panel, supports the requested refresh rate.
- Use a cable rated for the required HDMI bandwidth.
- Check that the DG300 is selected as the display path and that Windows is set to the monitor’s actual native mode.
- Remember that the 100W Gaming Charger Dock has no published 4K/144Hz specification; do not treat it as equivalent to the DG300 for this use.
The Ally is not charging or loses battery while gaming
- Check that the charger is connected to the dock’s power-input port and that the charger has sufficient USB-C PD capacity.
- Remove high-draw USB devices and test again.
- For a monitor-and-peripheral setup, follow ASUS’s recommendation to consider a 130W-capable dock and verify the complete input-to-output power path.
- Try a different known-compatible USB-C cable if the dock intermittently disconnects or charging starts and stops.
USB devices, Ethernet or audio are not detected
- Reconnect the dock after the handheld is awake and the dock has power.
- Test each accessory individually to identify a faulty cable or overloaded bus.
- Use the DG300 for Ethernet and the audio jack because those connections are not listed on the compact 100W Gaming Charger Dock.
- Check for dock firmware updates from the manufacturer and install them only according to the supplied instructions.
What to verify before ordering
- Model: confirm whether you own the standard ROG Xbox Ally or the ROG Xbox Ally X; their USB-C and DisplayPort generations differ.
- Display goal: basic HDMI television play does not require the same dock as 4K/144Hz desktop gaming.
- Port inventory: count USB-A, USB-C, Ethernet and audio devices you will use simultaneously.
- Power: compare the dock’s input requirement, charger wattage and expected handheld load. ASUS’s 130W guidance is particularly relevant when a monitor and several accessories are connected.
- Cables: verify the required USB-C host cable and an HDMI cable appropriate for your target display mode.
- Current commercial terms: the $99.99 and $139.99 figures are 2025 announced U.S. ERP values. Retail prices, included accessories, stock and regional availability can change.
- Evidence level: the specifications above come from manufacturer and Xbox Wire descriptions. They do not constitute independent side-by-side testing of latency, thermals or long-term reliability.
Final recommendation
Buy the ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock when you want the smallest practical travel solution for HDMI, charging and two USB-A accessories. Buy the ROG Bulwark Dock 2025 DG300 when the dock will stay on a desk, you need Ethernet or audio, you will attach several peripherals, or you specifically need the published HDMI 2.1 path for up to 4K at 144Hz. Whichever model you choose, match the dock, charger, USB-C port, HDMI cable and monitor as one system rather than judging the dock by its port list alone.
