For U.S. shoppers, the TCL QM6K is a strong under-$600 candidate—especially at 55 inches—but only when the exact size and live listing fit your budget. If you want a larger screen, the 65-inch Hisense QD7 may be better value; if gaming or a bright room is the priority, check the specific model’s refresh rate, reflection handling and current price before choosing.
Best TV under $600: the short list
| Best for | Model and size | Why consider it | Price and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best all-around candidate | TCL QM6K, especially 55 inches | QD Mini-LED and QLED color, 4K, native 144Hz refresh, VRR, Dolby Vision and Google TV are listed for the recommended model. Its combination of picture features and gaming support makes it a strong option if you find the right size within budget. | Tom’s Guide captured the 55-inch version at $499 at Best Buy in September 2026; that was a dated offer, not a guaranteed current price. [Tom’s Guide] |
| More screen for the money | Hisense QD7, 65 inches | A potentially appealing way to get a larger screen at a low price. Do not assume its gaming specifications match those of larger QD7 sizes. | Tom’s Guide captured the 65-inch version at $509 at Best Buy in September 2026. Price and stock can change. [Tom’s Guide] |
| Smaller-room option | Sony Bravia 3 II, 43 inches | Worth checking if you want a compact screen and find it below the ceiling. | Tom’s Guide describes the 43-inch model as available below $600; that does not establish the price of larger sizes. [Tom’s Guide] |
| Gaming alternative to check | Hisense U6SF Pro, 55 inches | An expert guide reports two HDMI 2.1 inputs and 4K gaming up to 144Hz with VRR, making it a promising option for a gaming-focused comparison. | A $499 Best Buy offer was captured by Tom’s Guide; it is a price snapshot, not a standing offer. Confirm the exact SKU and current listing. [Tom’s Guide] |
The recommendations are U.S.-market guidance, and sale prices are snapshots. The QM6K was named the overall under-$600 choice in a U.S.-focused guide dated August 12, 2026, which synthesizes other reviews and manufacturer specifications rather than reporting independent lab or ownership testing. RTINGS also lists the QM6K as a current recommendation in its under-$500 guide, with recommendations informed by price and availability. Those endorsements make it a candidate to investigate, not a guarantee that every size is equally good or under budget. [Sekin] [RTINGS]

How to choose the right TV for your budget
Start with size and the full price
Choose the screen size that fits your room and seating distance, then look up that exact size and model number. A discounted 55-inch listing does not prove that the 65-inch version is similarly priced, and model families can differ in specifications. Check the seller, shipping charges and local tax; a $600 sticker price can exceed a $600 total budget after tax. Promotions and availability change, so treat dated deal prices as reference points rather than current quotes. [Sekin]
For gaming, verify the exact size and inputs
Check native refresh rate, variable refresh rate (VRR), HDMI 2.1 ports and the resolution supported at high refresh. These details determine whether a TV can take advantage of a compatible console or gaming PC. Size can change the answer: Tom’s Guide’s September 2026 deals coverage describes QD7 sets at 65 inches and smaller as 60Hz, while larger sizes are 144Hz. Do not apply the larger model’s specification to a 65-inch set. [Tom’s Guide]

The QM6K is listed with native 144Hz and VRR, while Tom’s Guide reports that the 55-inch U6SF Pro has two HDMI 2.1 inputs and supports 4K gaming up to 144Hz with VRR. Confirm that those specifications appear on the listing for the exact size you intend to buy; the product name alone is not enough. [Sekin] [Tom’s Guide]
For a bright room, prioritize reflections and brightness
In a sunny room, glare control and usable brightness may matter more than a headline resolution or gaming feature. RTINGS describes the Hisense U7SG as brighter and as having a matte coating compared with the TCL QM6K. RTINGS also says the U7SG is regularly $600–$700, so it belongs on this list only when the exact size is discounted enough to meet your ceiling. [RTINGS]

For picture quality, look beyond the technology label
Local dimming and Mini-LED can improve contrast and HDR presentation compared with basic LED designs, but a label does not ensure the same results across every size. RTINGS says the 65-inch TCL QM5K has local dimming and can show more blooming around bright highlights than the U6SF Pro. Blooming is a halo around bright objects against dark backgrounds; if that bothers you, look for size-specific reviews rather than relying only on a family name. [RTINGS]

What the dated prices do—and do not—tell you
The 55-inch QM6K at $499 and 65-inch QD7 at $509 were prices Tom’s Guide captured at Best Buy in September 2026. They show that these particular sizes have appeared below $600, not that they are available at those prices today. Before buying, check the live listing for the size, seller, stock, delivery cost and final total. [Tom’s Guide]
Buying an earlier-year model can also be worthwhile when its price drops, according to Tom’s Guide’s budget-TV roundup. Compare the exact set’s features and independent size-specific testing rather than treating the newest model year as automatically better value. [Tom’s Guide]
