Stan’s Rolled Gold is specifically positioned for low-volume road and gravel setups, while Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle is formulated for downhill, enduro and MTB use. Muc-Off also sells a separate Road & Gravel formula. Choose for your tire type and riding conditions, and treat manufacturers’ puncture and longevity figures as claims—not head-to-head test results.
Which tubeless sealant suits your tires?
Start with the demands of the tire rather than comparing puncture-size claims across labels. Road tires typically have lower air volume and run at higher pressure, so a sealant needs to close a puncture quickly before much air escapes. Mountain-bike tires are larger-volume and encounter different trail damage; a formula explicitly intended for MTB is the more relevant place to start. A stated pressure range or puncture size is a manufacturer specification, not proof that two products were tested under the same conditions.
| Product | Intended use and pressure | Puncture evidence | Duration and maintenance | Formula or installation notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stan’s Rolled Gold | Road and gravel; Stan’s specifies 35–100 psi for this low-volume, high-pressure formula. | Stan’s claims it can repair punctures up to 7.8 mm at 100 psi. The cited Cycling Weekly test did not test Rolled Gold. | No duration figure established in the cited product information. | Stan’s supports injection through the valve. For a 700c × 28 mm tire, Stan’s recommends 35 ml; it lists 50 ml for its Original and a 55 ml competitor average for comparison. Those are Stan’s figures, not a universal fill standard. |
| Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle | Downhill, enduro and MTB; Muc-Off specifies 15–80 psi. | Muc-Off claims sealing holes or tears up to 7 mm. In Cycling Weekly’s road-oriented test, this product sealed up to 6 mm; its 7 mm seal held only around 30 psi in that test. | Muc-Off claims up to 6+ months in temperate climates. | Muc-Off says it seals porous tires and bead/rim gaps and includes UV detection. |
| Muc-Off Road & Gravel | Separate Road & Gravel formula; Muc-Off states operation up to 110 psi. | Muc-Off claims it seals holes up to 7 mm. No result for this formula was reported in the cited Cycling Weekly test. | Muc-Off states 3–6 months and advises checking volume and topping up when needed, especially in hot, dry climates or every 750 miles. | Manufacturer describes a synthetic-latex and sealing-particle formula. |
| Stan’s Original | Stan’s lists compatibility with road, gravel and mountain-bike tires. | Stan’s claims puncture sealing up to 6.5 mm. The cited Cycling Weekly comparison does not report a test result for this product. | Stan’s says it remains liquid for 2–7 months; arid conditions may require more frequent monitoring. | Stan’s supports injection through the valve. |
| Vittoria Universal | Vittoria’s 2021 product PDF gives separate MTB and road claims; it does not establish a pressure range. | Vittoria claims sealing up to 7 mm for MTB tires and 5 mm for road tires, with puncture-sealing performance up to 1,000 km. | Not stated in the cited PDF. | Vittoria says the formula contains no natural latex and identifies its AIR-LINER inserts as a specific compatibility use. Confirm current instructions before use. |

For high-pressure road and gravel: Stan’s Rolled Gold
Rolled Gold is the clearest match when the main need is a sealant explicitly designed for low-volume, high-pressure road and gravel tires. Stan’s current product information specifies 35–100 psi and claims a repair up to 7.8 mm at 100 psi. Those are manufacturer claims, not independent results from the road comparison discussed below. Stan’s also lists a lower sample fill recommendation than its own Original figure for a 700c × 28 mm tire; use the amount specified for your tire and product rather than treating those sample figures as a general rule. See Stan’s Rolled Gold product information.
For mountain biking: Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle
Muc-Off explicitly designates No Puncture Hassle for downhill, enduro and MTB and gives it a 15–80 psi operating range. Its product page also claims it can seal holes or tears up to 7 mm, seal porous tires and bead/rim gaps, and remain effective for up to 6+ months in temperate climates. These are specifications and claims from Muc-Off, not a comparative MTB test. Check Muc-Off’s MTB product details.

For a road-specific alternative: Muc-Off Road & Gravel
This is a distinct formula from No Puncture Hassle, not just the MTB product under another name. Muc-Off states that Road & Gravel works up to 110 psi and claims sealing up to 7 mm. Its stated duration is 3–6 months, with volume checks and top-ups as needed; the company particularly flags hot, dry conditions and also advises checking every 750 miles. Follow the product directions for your own setup. Read Muc-Off’s Road & Gravel specifications.
For broad stated compatibility: Stan’s Original
Stan’s positions Original for road, gravel and mountain-bike tires, making it a possible all-around choice if broad compatibility matters more than choosing a formula marketed specifically for high-pressure road use. Stan’s claims sealing up to 6.5 mm and says the sealant remains liquid for 2–7 months; it notes that arid conditions can call for more frequent checks. Rolled Gold is the more specifically positioned Stan’s option for high-pressure road and gravel systems. See Stan’s Original product information.

For a latex-free formula or insert-specific use: Vittoria Universal
Vittoria’s manufacturer PDF says Universal contains no natural latex and identifies compatibility with Vittoria AIR-LINER inserts. It gives different puncture claims for road and MTB tires—up to 5 mm and 7 mm, respectively—and says performance can extend up to 1,000 km. The PDF surfaced as a 2021 document, so check that its instructions and compatibility information remain current for the product you buy. Review Vittoria’s Universal Sealant document.
What the independent road test does—and does not—show
Cycling Weekly’s April 7, 2026 road-and-gravel guide reports a test using a 28 mm Schwalbe Pro One tire on a Zipp 303S wheel. In its described procedure, Silca Ultimate sealed a 7 mm hole at 70 psi with effort. Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle sealed up to 6 mm; its 7 mm seal held only around 30 psi. These results are useful evidence for that setup and test, not universal performance ratings across tires, sealant amounts, temperatures or riding conditions. The comparison is road-oriented and does not establish which product performs best on mountain-bike tires. Read Cycling Weekly’s road-and-gravel test and method.

Do not use this test to infer that Rolled Gold or Muc-Off Road & Gravel would achieve a particular hole size or pressure: the cited results do not report tests of those formulas. Likewise, a maker’s maximum hole-size claim is not directly comparable with another maker’s claim unless the test conditions and method are the same.
How to choose and maintain a sealant
- Match the formula to the discipline. For a low-volume road or gravel tire, compare formulas explicitly marketed for high pressure, such as Rolled Gold or Muc-Off Road & Gravel. For downhill, enduro or MTB use, No Puncture Hassle is explicitly designated for that category.
- Check your operating pressure and compatibility. Compare your intended pressure with the manufacturer’s stated range or maximum. Check the product instructions for your tire, rim and any insert; do not assume a different formula from the same brand has identical compatibility.
- Use the maker’s fill guidance. Tire volume and product matter. Stan’s 35 ml Rolled Gold recommendation for a 700c × 28 mm tire is a product-specific example, not a universal amount.
- Install by a supported method. Valve injection is documented by Stan’s for Rolled Gold and Original. Use that approach only when the selected product’s directions and your valve setup support it; otherwise follow the product’s stated installation method.
- Inspect rather than relying on a fixed calendar. Sealant condition varies with product, temperature, humidity and use. Check the liquid level and condition, then top up or refresh according to the manufacturer’s directions. Muc-Off’s Road & Gravel guidance specifically calls out hot, dry conditions and checks every 750 miles; Stan’s notes that arid conditions may require more frequent monitoring for Original.
Frequently asked comparison trap: which number matters most?
Pressure range, claimed puncture size and service duration answer different questions. The operating range tells you what the maker specifies for use; a puncture-size figure is a manufacturer claim unless it comes from a stated test; and a duration figure is an estimate under the maker’s conditions. For an independent comparison, look for the tested tire, wheel, pressure and method. The cited Cycling Weekly results provide that kind of context for one road setup, but not a universal ranking.
