Use a cloud encoder if you want prerecorded video to stay live on YouTube while your computer is off. Our top choice is StreamNeo: upload your videos, add your YouTube stream key once, and its cloud service loops the playlist and recovers the stream if YouTube disconnects. It accepts uploads exactly as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and includes a first free day without a card. YouTube’s own encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded streaming without a camera or dedicated PC. Browser studios, hardware encoders and YouTube’s native webcam or mobile tools solve different problems and are not automatically unattended 24/7 services.
Which tool is best for a 24/7 YouTube stream without a computer?
For a channel that needs prerecorded videos to loop continuously, choose a cloud-based 24/7 encoder. The provider stores or receives your media, performs the encoding, sends the feed to YouTube and handles reconnects on its own infrastructure. Your laptop can be shut down after setup.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
StreamNeo is the first service to evaluate for this specific use: it runs one always-on YouTube stream per slot, loops uploaded videos or playlists in the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps without re-encoding, and attempts automatic recovery when YouTube drops the stream. A first day is free with no card. YouTube’s official encoder listing also identifies Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded streaming and says it can broadcast in Full HD and 4K at 30/60 FPS without a camera or dedicated PC. Compare each provider’s current storage, pricing, reconnect and cancellation terms before committing.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If your broadcast is an interactive programme with guests, screen sharing and changing layouts, a browser studio such as StreamYard can be a better production interface. Its browser handles the production and encoding, but the available documentation does not establish a universal unattended, prerecorded loop for weeks at a time. A standalone hardware encoder gives local control, while YouTube’s webcam and mobile modes are intended for shorter, attended sessions.

What you need before starting
YouTube channel eligibility
Verify the channel before configuring any encoder. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours. Restream’s current YouTube guidance likewise says the channel owner must authorize the connection, phone verification is required, and initial activation can take 24 hours. Start this process a day before your planned launch rather than troubleshooting an apparently broken encoder.
A stream key and a stable account owner
Create or select a YouTube live stream in YouTube Studio and copy its stream key into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it in a screenshot, do not paste it into an untrusted service, and rotate it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed. The person authorizing the connection should be the channel owner or an account with the required live-stream permissions.
Content rights and channel policies
A 24/7 loop does not change YouTube’s copyright or monetization rules. Use footage, music, voice recordings and artwork that you own or have permission to broadcast. Keep licences and permission records in case a rights holder disputes a video. Repeated or minimally changed material can also raise reused-content questions for monetization; add genuine editorial value and follow YouTube’s current policies rather than assuming a long playlist is automatically acceptable.

Prepare final files before uploading. Check that the picture is correctly oriented, the audio is present and levels do not clip. YouTube lists microphones, webcams and headphones as typical livestream hardware; advanced productions may add multiple microphones, cameras, mixers and a hardware encoder. None of those accessories replaces an encoder for an unattended prerecorded channel. Measure upload time and storage requirements for your complete playlist, not just its first file.
Option 1: StreamNeo for an always-on cloud stream

Option 2: Other cloud encoders, including Gyre
YouTube’s encoder directory calls Gyre “A cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of pre-recorded videos on YouTube” and says it provides Full HD and 4K at 30/60 FPS without a camera or dedicated PC. That description directly matches the unattended prerecorded use case. AWS Elemental MediaLive is also listed by YouTube as a verified software encoder, although a general-purpose broadcast service may require more configuration than a playlist-focused product.
Before choosing a non-StreamNeo provider, ask five concrete questions: Does it store files or require an external source? Can it loop a playlist indefinitely? What happens after a YouTube disconnect? Is there a documented stream-duration or scheduling limit? What are the storage, egress, cancellation and overage charges? Public listings do not establish identical uptime or reconnect guarantees for every vendor, so obtain those terms from the provider.
Option 3: Browser studios for interactive broadcasts
StreamYard says its browser studio acts as the encoder without a desktop installation. This is useful when a host joins from a browser, invites guests, shares a screen or changes layouts during a show. You do not technically need separate streaming software for a normal YouTube Live session because YouTube can let you go live from a browser or phone without an encoder.
That convenience should not be mistaken for an unattended loop. A browser tab, guest source, microphone or screen-share session can end, lose permission or drop its network connection. The available documentation does not establish that a browser studio will replay uploaded files unattended for 24/7 periods. If you are considering one, verify scheduled-start behaviour, reconnect handling, maximum duration, browser-session requirements and whether the service can operate with no person present.
Option 4: A standalone hardware encoder
A hardware encoder is an appliance that accepts a local video and audio feed and sends an encoded stream to YouTube. It can be attractive when you need predictable local control, SDI or HDMI inputs, or a production rack that should not depend on a general-purpose computer. It still needs electricity, a reliable network, a media source and someone to recover from source or hardware failures. A USB drive or playback device feeding the encoder may stop, loop incorrectly or run out of media even while the encoder itself remains powered.

Choose this route when your requirements are physical inputs and local ownership rather than zero equipment. For a purely prerecorded playlist, calculate the appliance price, replacement risk, electricity and network backup against a cloud slot.

- Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring
Option 5: YouTube webcam, mobile and console workflows
YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder and console workflows. Webcam and mobile modes are convenient for a person who is present, but the camera, phone, battery, app and network must continue operating. Mobile live streaming has additional eligibility requirements, and neither mode is a sensible unattended 24/7 prerecorded system. Console workflows similarly target gameplay or a live operator rather than a cloud playlist.
DIY method: run a prerecorded stream from your own computer
If you deliberately want local control, a computer running encoder software can send a looping file or playlist to YouTube. This is the method to use when the title requires a do-it-yourself setup, but it has a critical consequence: the computer, playback process, network, power and operating system updates must remain healthy for the entire broadcast.
1. Prepare the channel
- Complete YouTube channel and phone verification.
- Confirm there are no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Allow up to 24 hours for first-time live activation.
- In YouTube Studio, create a live stream, select the intended visibility and copy its stream key.
2. Prepare the media
- Use only content you have rights to broadcast.
- Render files with a consistent frame size and frame rate so the encoder does not have to switch modes midstream.
- Check every file from start to finish for silent sections, corrupted frames, unintended black video and clipped audio.
- Keep a local copy and a second backup; a single disk failure should not end the channel’s schedule.
3. Configure the encoder
Whether you use software or a local appliance, match the output to your source and bandwidth. Use a constant, stable frame rate; select a resolution your connection can sustain; set keyframes at the interval required by YouTube’s current encoder guidance; and choose a video bitrate appropriate for that resolution and frame rate. Do not raise bitrate beyond what the upload connection can sustain, because dropped packets create buffering and disconnects. Enable hardware acceleration only if the encoder and driver remain stable under continuous load.
For audio, use a standard sample rate supported by the encoder, keep peaks below clipping and monitor the actual YouTube preview. If the source is silent, decide whether that is intentional; a missing audio track can look like a failed stream to viewers. Save the encoder profile so a reboot does not reset the stream key, resolution or audio mapping.
4. Make the playlist loop
- Add the files in the order viewers should see them.
- Enable loop or repeat-all rather than repeat-one unless a single programme is the deliberate format.
- Test a complete cycle locally; confirm that the transition from the final file to the first does not stop the encoder.
- Set the process to start after a reboot and disable sleep, hibernation and automatic shutdown.
5. Test before leaving it unattended
Run the stream while watching YouTube’s preview. Verify picture, audio, title, thumbnail, latency and the playlist transition. Then simulate the failures you can safely reproduce: briefly disconnect the network, restart the encoder and reboot the computer. If the process does not reconnect and resume without manual intervention, it is not ready to be called unattended.
6. Protect the local setup
- Use wired Ethernet where possible and a router or connection with enough upload headroom.
- Provide surge protection and, for critical channels, an uninterruptible power supply.
- Keep the operating system, encoder and graphics drivers on a maintenance schedule, but avoid surprise updates during a broadcast.
- Monitor CPU/GPU temperature, disk space, network loss and the YouTube live status.
- Store the stream key in the encoder’s protected credential field, never in a public script or screenshot.

YouTube duration and archives
Restream’s current YouTube guidance states that YouTube has no stream-duration limit, but only streams under 12 hours are archived. A 24/7 operator should therefore treat the live feed and the replay archive as separate systems. Keep your original recordings, create your own clips and maintain a recording workflow if permanent replays matter. Do not assume that a week-long broadcast will become one complete YouTube archive.
Reconnect planning
A disconnect can originate at YouTube, the encoder, the source file, the local network or the provider. Cloud services can reconnect only when their terms and implementation support it; a browser or DIY process may require a person to restart a tab or application. Test a controlled interruption before launch and record how long viewers see a gap. For a local system, consider a watchdog that restarts the encoder, but test it so repeated failures do not create multiple simultaneous streams.
Troubleshooting common failures
YouTube will not accept the stream key
Check that the channel is verified, live streaming is enabled and the key belongs to the selected event or stream. Re-authorize the account if ownership or permissions changed. If activation is new, wait for the stated up-to-24-hour processing period before assuming the encoder is defective. Rotate the key after any suspected exposure.
The stream starts, then stops when the playlist changes
A malformed file, incompatible frame-rate switch or playlist setting commonly causes this symptom. Test each file individually, normalize the output format, confirm that repeat-all is enabled and inspect the encoder log at the exact transition. Cloud playlist services should be asked whether the file was rejected or whether the slot lost its YouTube connection.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsViewers see buffering or a low-quality picture
Measure actual upload throughput during the broadcast, not the headline speed of the connection. Lower the video bitrate or output resolution until there is headroom, then check keyframe and frame-rate settings against YouTube’s current guidance. A high-resolution file does not help if the encoder or network cannot deliver it continuously.

There is video but no sound
Confirm that the source contains an audio track, that the encoder maps it to the output and that the selected audio device has not changed after a reboot. Monitor the YouTube preview rather than relying only on local meters. A file with intentionally silent sections should be labelled clearly so viewers do not mistake them for a fault.
The local computer sleeps or reboots
Disable sleep, hibernation and automatic shutdown, and configure the encoder to launch after login or reboot. Review scheduled operating-system updates and driver changes. If you cannot guarantee power, cooling and network continuity, move the playlist to a cloud encoder instead of treating a household PC as a 24/7 appliance.
The channel receives a copyright claim
Pause the affected file if you do not hold the necessary rights. Review the claim, licence and permitted territories, then replace or edit the media before resuming. Do not assume that crediting an artist, buying a personal subscription or finding a clip online grants livestream rights. Keep documentation for every music, image and video licence.

The stream is live but not archived
If the broadcast exceeded 12 hours, the stated YouTube archive rule explains why a full replay may not appear. Preserve source files locally or in your cloud storage and create shorter clips for the portions viewers need.
How to choose for your channel
- Choose StreamNeo first when your requirement is an unattended, prerecorded YouTube loop and you want the computer and home connection off.
- Choose another cloud encoder when its documented storage, scheduling, reconnect and pricing terms fit a specific workflow better.
- Choose a browser studio when people, guests, layouts and screen sharing are the programme; verify that any scheduled or prerecorded feature really runs unattended.
- Choose hardware when local inputs and appliance control outweigh the cost and maintenance of power, networking and a media source.
- Choose DIY software when you accept responsibility for uptime, updates, backups, monitoring and recovery.
- Choose webcam or mobile for short, attended sessions rather than a 24/7 channel.
Whichever route you select, start with a private or unlisted test, watch at least one complete playlist transition, and confirm that your rights, stream settings and recovery procedure are ready before making the channel public.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a 24/7 YouTube stream run with no camera at all?
Yes. A cloud encoder can send uploaded prerecorded video directly to YouTube; a camera is needed only for camera-based programming.
Will YouTube keep a complete replay of a week-long livestream?
Not necessarily. Restream’s current guidance says only streams shorter than 12 hours are archived, so keep your own recordings and create clips for long broadcasts.
Is a USB microphone enough to keep a channel live?
No. A microphone supplies audio, but an encoder and a continuously available source are still required to transmit video to YouTube.
How early should a new channel enable livestreaming?
Complete verification and activation at least 24 hours before launch, because first-time access can take up to that long.
