For your channel, use YouTube Studio’s audience-activity report as a starting clue, compare similar Shorts across a few practical upload windows, and keep the schedule you can sustain.

Does posting time matter for YouTube Shorts?
Timing can be useful for planning, but it is not an algorithm shortcut. YouTube’s performance guidance says publishing time is not known to affect long-term video performance. It also says that publishing when your audience is most active can benefit early viewership, while noting that this is not known to change long-term viewership.

That distinction matters: an active audience may be available to watch soon after you publish, but it does not establish that a Short will be recommended more widely or keep gaining views. Shorts recommendations are personalized and respond to viewer interest and performance. Signals YouTube describes include whether people choose to watch, how long they stay, average view duration, average percentage viewed, likes, and post-watch survey results.

How to find a useful posting window in YouTube Studio
1. Check when your viewers are on YouTube
- Open YouTube Studio and select Analytics.
- Open the Audience tab and find When your viewers are on YouTube.
- Use the chart to identify periods when your channel’s viewers have recently been active. It reflects the previous 28 days, so treat it as a recent pattern rather than a permanent timetable.
YouTube documents this report as a way to help plan a Premiere or live stream. For Shorts, it is a reasonable channel-specific scheduling clue, not proof that posting during a highlighted period improves Shorts recommendations. Some audience data may also be limited.
2. Account for where your audience lives
If your viewers are spread across countries or time zones, one local clock time may not suit most of them. Use the audience distribution and activity information available in Studio to choose a window that makes sense for the people you want to reach. If the report does not provide enough detail, avoid treating your own time zone as your audience’s time zone.

3. Choose a few workable windows
Select a small number of plausible windows that fit both audience activity and your production routine. There is no official universal hour or best day to copy. The goal is to find a schedule worth sustaining for your channel, not to chase a supposedly perfect minute.
How to compare posting times fairly
YouTube does not prescribe a controlled timing experiment. The following is a practical way to compare windows using the channel-level analytics YouTube makes available; it cannot isolate timing perfectly, because Shorts differ and audience behavior varies.

- Keep the comparison meaningful. Compare Shorts with reasonably similar subjects and creative formats. YouTube recommends comparing the same content format because audience behavior differs across formats.
- Use several examples per window. Do not treat one unusually successful or weak Short as proof. Repeat the comparison enough to see whether a pattern appears; there is no official minimum sample size.
- Review Shorts metrics. In YouTube Studio, use the Content tab to review relevant Shorts performance. Consider views and likes alongside subscribers, shown in feed, and how many viewers chose to view rather than swipe away.
- Consider viewing behavior. Use available retention measures, such as average view duration or average percentage viewed, to understand whether people who start watching keep watching.
- Account for the cost of the schedule. A window that is only marginally useful but difficult to meet may not be a good choice. YouTube’s Shorts upload guidance encourages creators to consider frequency, consistency, content volume, production time, and monetary cost versus return.
Record the upload window and the comparable Short’s results in a simple note or spreadsheet if that makes patterns easier to see. Treat any difference as suggestive rather than proof that timing caused it.
What to prioritize beyond the clock
Because recommendations are personalized and reflect viewer response, put your effort into the Short itself as well as its release window. Check whether viewers choose to watch instead of swiping away, whether they continue watching, and how the Short performs on measures such as average view duration, average percentage viewed, and likes. Raw views alone do not explain how people responded or whether one posting window is consistently useful.

Keep the schedule sustainable
Choose a cadence you can maintain without compromising the time needed to make each Short. YouTube’s guidance points creators to frequency, consistency, content volume, time to produce, and monetary cost versus return when planning uploads. A sustainable routine is a better-supported planning principle than assuming every channel should post at a particular hour or daily.
