Best Ticket Resale Sites With Transparent Fees and Buyer Protection (U.S. Guide, 2026)

For U.S. buyers, compare the final all-in total, the guarantee remedy, cancellation and postponement rules, delivery timing, and seat-location accuracy—not the headline price. SeatGeek, StubHub, and Vivid Seats each publish buyer protections, but their promises differ. Check Ticketmaster resale first when the event organizer offers it, because it is the event’s official resale channel in those cases. Then read the event-specific terms and verify the amount charged at the final checkout step.

The Federal Trade Commission’s Fees Rule has required prominent, upfront disclosure of mandatory live-event ticket fees since May 12, 2025. That improves price comparisons, but it does not make every listing equally safe or equally cheap: inventory, seller pricing, delivery method, venue rules, and timing still change the outcome.

What to compare before buying a resale ticket

A resale marketplace is only as useful as the information it gives you before payment. Evaluate each listing on six separate questions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Is the first meaningful price display an all-in total? Mandatory service, delivery, and tax charges should be visible before you commit, not introduced after several checkout screens.
  • What happens if the ticket fails? A promise may provide a replacement, a refund, account credit, or another remedy. Those outcomes are not interchangeable if the event is sold out or starts soon.
  • What happens if the event is canceled or postponed? A cancellation policy is not automatically a postponement policy. Read the event-specific rule.
  • When will delivery occur? Mobile transfer may arrive immediately, shortly before the event, or only after the seller receives the tickets. Confirm the deadline you can live with.
  • How precise is the seat promise? Check whether the guarantee covers the exact row, only the section or zone, or a comparable seat.
  • Is this the organizer’s official resale channel? Official resale can reduce transfer and authenticity uncertainty, but it still has event-specific terms and a final checkout total to review.

No marketplace guarantee eliminates the need to inspect the listing, restrictions, delivery instructions, and final total yourself.

SeatGeek vs. StubHub vs. Vivid Seats: policy comparison

Marketplace Price disclosure If the ticket is invalid or entry fails Cancellation and postponement Delivery and seat details Official-channel status
SeatGeek Buyer should verify the final checkout total; seller generally sets the resale price. Every ticket purchase is covered by the Buyer Guarantee. The policy monitors for invalid, misleading, duplicate, or fraudulent listings; the exact remedy depends on the guarantee terms. Canceled events are covered. Postponed events generally are not refunded unless the event is ultimately canceled. Other event changes are generally excluded. Delivery deadline and exact replacement standard are not stated in the policy summary. Listing section and ticket details still require checking. Usually a third-party marketplace unless the event page identifies another arrangement.
StubHub Its September 30, 2026 pricing explainer says the displayed total includes mandatory fees and is the amount paid. FanProtect covers every order. If entry fails, StubHub says it will provide comparable-or-better replacement tickets or a full refund. Check the event-specific terms; a universal cancellation or postponement rule is not stated in the available policy material. Confirm the delivery method and deadline on the listing. Replacement tickets are described as comparable or better, not necessarily the identical row. Not generally the organizer’s official channel.
Vivid Seats The total order amount includes the ticket price, service and delivery fees, and applicable taxes. Confirmed orders are guaranteed to be in the listed zone or section, or a comparable one, and delivered in time for the event; otherwise the buyer gets money back. Read the event-specific terms. Buyer-remorse refunds are not offered. Delivery in time for the event is part of the guarantee. The seat promise is generally zone or section based rather than a guaranteed identical row. Not generally the organizer’s official channel.
Ticketmaster resale Review the event checkout total and resale designation before payment. Ticketmaster’s purchase-policy materials distinguish standard primary tickets from resale tickets, but the available policy material does not establish a remedy that can be ranked against the marketplace guarantees above. Event-specific resale policy controls; read it before paying. Transfer timing, seat rules, and delivery method depend on the event. Use first when the organizer makes it available as the official resale channel.

“Cheapest” and “safest” are therefore moving targets. The same event can have different inventory and seller pricing on each marketplace, and a lower listing price can disappear once mandatory charges, taxes, or delivery fees are included.

SeatGeek: broad Buyer Guarantee, seller-set pricing

How listings and prices work

SeatGeek says sellers usually set resale prices. That means the marketplace can show a wide range of prices for the same event, section, or row. Compare equivalent seats and the final amount charged rather than assuming the first number is comparable with another site’s total.

SeatGeek also says it monitors listings for invalid, misleading, duplicate, or fraudulent inventory. Monitoring lowers risk, but it is not a substitute for checking the section, row, ticket type, transfer instructions, and restrictions shown on the individual listing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What the Buyer Guarantee covers

SeatGeek’s terms say every ticket purchase is covered by its Buyer Guarantee. The guarantee is the relevant protection if a ticket is invalid or does not match the listing, but the remedy is governed by the current terms and the facts of the order. Save the listing description and order confirmation so you can show exactly what was promised.

Canceled versus postponed events

SeatGeek states that canceled events are covered. Postponed events generally are not refunded unless the event is canceled, and other event changes are generally excluded. If a date moves, check whether the event is officially classified as postponed, rescheduled, or canceled before requesting a remedy.

When SeatGeek may fit

  • You want a large range of seller-priced inventory and are willing to compare equivalent seats.
  • You value a stated guarantee that applies to every purchase.
  • You can accept that a postponement may not qualify for a refund unless the event is canceled.

StubHub: explicit all-in display and FanProtect remedy

What the displayed total means

StubHub’s September 30, 2026 pricing explainer says its displayed total includes mandatory fees and is the amount paid. Use that number when comparing listings, while still checking whether taxes, optional products, or event-specific charges are shown separately at the final step.

The FTC reported in April 2026 that StubHub agreed to pay $10 million to settle allegations that it failed to disclose total prices prominently and upfront. The settlement concerns earlier conduct; it does not remove your responsibility to verify the total on the order screen or tell you that every future listing will have the same terms.

FanProtect if entry fails

StubHub describes FanProtect as covering every order and promising valid tickets. If you cannot enter, it says it will provide comparable-or-better replacement tickets or a full refund. A replacement may solve the problem when the event is still open, but a refund is the more useful remedy when no acceptable seats remain or you cannot attend a later replacement.

StubHub Physical Gift Card - $50
  • Redemption: Online
  • No returns and no refunds on gift cards.

Delivery and event changes

Before paying, read the listing’s delivery method and expected transfer date. Mobile tickets can be transferred close to showtime, and a late delivery can leave little time to contact support. The available StubHub policy material does not establish one universal cancellation or postponement rule, so apply the event-specific terms shown with your order.

When StubHub may fit

  • You want an explicitly displayed total that StubHub describes as the amount paid.
  • You prefer a stated choice between comparable-or-better replacement tickets and a full refund if entry fails.
  • You are prepared to document the order and follow the event-specific rules for changes or delivery.

Vivid Seats: zone or section promise, no buyer-remorse refund

What is included in the order total

Vivid Seats’ terms state that the total order amount includes the ticket price, service and delivery fees, and applicable taxes. Compare that total with other sites only after confirming that each site is showing the same mandatory components.

The delivery and location guarantee

Vivid Seats guarantees that a confirmed marketplace order will be within the listed zone or section, or a comparable zone or section, and delivered in time for the event. If those conditions are not met, the buyer gets money back. The promise is materially different from a guaranteed identical row: read the listing’s section, row, and any “or comparable” language before deciding whether the location is acceptable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

No buyer-remorse refunds

The terms do not offer buyer-remorse refunds. If you simply change your mind, select the wrong date, or can no longer attend, that is different from a ticket being invalid, outside the promised location, or delivered too late. Confirm the event, date, quantity, and seat location before submitting payment.

When Vivid Seats may fit

  • You want a clear in-time delivery promise tied to a zone or section.
  • You are comfortable with a comparable-seat remedy rather than an identical-row guarantee.
  • You are certain about the purchase because buyer-remorse refunds are not offered.

Ticketmaster resale: check the official channel first

Ticketmaster’s purchase-policy materials distinguish standard primary tickets from resale tickets. When an organizer enables Ticketmaster resale for an event, it is the logical reference point because the listing is presented within the event’s official ticketing environment rather than a separate marketplace.

That does not make every Ticketmaster resale transaction automatically risk-free or universally refundable. Read the event-specific resale policy, ticket-transfer instructions, restrictions, and final checkout total. The available purchase-policy material does not provide enough detail to rank Ticketmaster’s buyer remedy against SeatGeek’s, StubHub’s, or Vivid Seats’ guarantees.

How the FTC all-in pricing rule changes comparisons

The FTC Fees Rule requires the total price of a live-event ticket, including mandatory fees, to be disclosed prominently and upfront. It took effect on May 12, 2025. The practical benefit is that a buyer should be able to compare the real required price earlier in the purchase path instead of using a low headline number that excludes unavoidable charges.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Upfront disclosure does not mean every site calculates totals identically. Taxes can depend on location, delivery methods can carry different charges, and optional add-ons may be presented separately. Treat the final order page as the controlling number. If the amount changes between the listing and payment screen, stop and determine which charge was added and whether it is mandatory.

The FTC’s April 2026 announcement about the $10 million StubHub settlement shows why the display rule matters, but a settlement about earlier disclosures is not evidence that one marketplace will always be cheapest or that another cannot have a valid guarantee. Compare the actual order in front of you.

Step-by-step: buy a resale ticket with fewer surprises

  1. Confirm the event identity. Match the performer or team, venue, city, date, start time, and any performance number. Festivals, multi-game packages, and events with identical names are easy to confuse.
  2. Check the official event channel. Look for the organizer’s box-office link or Ticketmaster resale page. Note whether the ticket is standard primary inventory or explicitly labeled resale.
  3. Search at least two marketplaces. Compare equivalent sections and quantities, not just the cheapest single listing. A lower row, obstructed view, partial view, standing area, or resale restriction can explain a price difference.
  4. Record the complete listing. Save a screenshot or PDF showing section, row, seat numbers when available, ticket type, restrictions, delivery method, estimated delivery, and the marketplace’s guarantee language.
  5. Advance to the checkout total. Confirm mandatory service, delivery, and tax charges. Compare the amount paid, not the initial list price.
  6. Read the event-change rule. Determine whether a cancellation, postponement, reschedule, venue change, or lineup change triggers a refund. Do not assume “postponed” means “canceled.”
  7. Check the delivery deadline against your schedule. If transfer is expected near the event, make sure the account email, phone number, and mobile wallet can receive and display the ticket. For travel, leave time to contact support and find another option.
  8. Verify the seat promise. Decide whether “same section,” “same zone,” or “comparable” is acceptable. If an exact row matters, do not treat a comparable-seat clause as an identical-seat promise.
  9. Pay with a traceable method. Keep the order number, confirmation email, listing capture, and all support conversations. Never move payment or communication outside the marketplace’s protected process.
  10. Inspect the ticket immediately. Open the mobile ticket, confirm the event and seat details, and follow only the venue’s official transfer or wallet instructions. Report a mismatch before the event rather than waiting at the gate.

What to do when something goes wrong

The total changes at checkout

Do not pay until you understand the difference. Recheck whether the new amount is a mandatory fee, tax, delivery charge, or optional add-on. Capture both screens and contact the marketplace if the disclosed total and payment total conflict.

The ticket has not arrived

Check the order’s promised delivery window, spam folder, marketplace account, and mobile-wallet instructions. If the event is approaching, contact support through the order page and state the event time, order number, and remaining time. A guarantee is easier to enforce when you report the problem before attempting entry.

The seat does not match the listing

Compare the delivered ticket with the saved listing. Photograph or screen-capture the discrepancy, do not transfer the ticket to another person, and contact support immediately. Explain whether the difference is a wrong section, wrong row, obstructed view, partial view, or a different ticket type.

Entry is denied

Ask the venue for the reason if possible, retain the denial evidence, and contact the marketplace while you are at or near the venue. StubHub describes replacement tickets or a full refund under FanProtect; other marketplaces apply their own current guarantee terms and may require prompt notification.

The event is postponed

Wait for the organizer’s official classification and updated date. A postponed event is not automatically a canceled event. SeatGeek generally does not refund a postponement unless it is ultimately canceled; other marketplaces require you to follow the event-specific policy attached to the order.

Which site fits your priority?

Your priority Most relevant policy feature What to verify before payment
Official event relationship Ticketmaster resale when enabled by the organizer That the page is labeled resale, plus the event-specific refund and transfer rules
Displayed all-in amount StubHub’s stated total-paid display; Vivid Seats’ stated inclusion of ticket, service, delivery, and applicable taxes The final amount, tax treatment, and any optional add-ons
Entry-failure remedy StubHub FanProtect’s comparable-or-better replacement or full refund language How quickly you must report the problem and whether replacement inventory is acceptable
Broad purchase guarantee SeatGeek’s Buyer Guarantee covering every ticket purchase The current remedy and the event’s cancellation or postponement classification
Section or zone delivery promise Vivid Seats’ in-time delivery and listed-zone-or-section guarantee Whether a comparable section satisfies your needs and the no-buyer-remorse rule

Limits that apply to every marketplace

  • Guarantees are not insurance for changing plans. A valid ticket that you no longer want is different from an invalid ticket or a late delivery.
  • Comparable does not mean identical. A replacement can be in a different row or nearby location while still meeting the marketplace’s standard.
  • Event rules override assumptions. Age limits, ID checks, restricted-view disclosures, mobile-only entry, transfer cutoffs, and venue-specific restrictions can affect whether a ticket works.
  • Timing changes your options. A problem reported days before an event gives support more opportunity to locate replacement inventory than a problem reported at the gate.
  • Seller pricing is dynamic. A marketplace can be transparent about fees while still showing a higher total because the seller set a higher base price or because equivalent inventory is scarce.
  • Policies change. Fees, guarantee wording, delivery methods, and event rules can be revised. Read the terms attached to the specific order date and event.

Bottom line for U.S. buyers

Start with Ticketmaster resale when it is the organizer’s official option. Otherwise, compare SeatGeek, StubHub, and Vivid Seats using the same section, quantity, delivery timing, and final all-in total. Choose the policy whose remedy matches your main risk: StubHub states the clearest entry-failure replacement-or-refund outcome, SeatGeek provides a broad Buyer Guarantee but generally excludes postponed-event refunds unless the event is canceled, and Vivid Seats emphasizes in-time delivery and a listed-zone-or-section result while refusing buyer-remorse refunds. Confirm the checkout total and event-specific terms immediately before paying.
