PRAGMATA is the first game to try if what you miss most is a linear-feeling, single-player third-person shooter with a conspicuous cinematic identity. Its Steam listing classifies it as a third-person shooter and action adventure, and presents it as a story-rich science-fiction game. That places it closest to The Order: 1886 in the basic shape of play: one authored campaign, a controlled sequence of encounters, and a strong visual premise rather than an endless service-game loop.

PRAGMATA is set around a moon-base science-fiction premise, not an alternate Victorian London. The listing also points to puzzle elements, so expect more environmental problem-solving than The Order: 1886’s straightforward cover encounters. If you want a replica of its gothic firearms, this is not that. If you want an authored third-person adventure with unusual production design, it is the strongest match in this group.

The Steam listing shows an April 16, 2026 release date. Store pages, pricing, regional availability, and system requirements can change, so check the current listing before buying or recommending it. Do not assume that a page visible in one country is available in every region.
2. Returnal: the best match for intense over-the-shoulder shooting
Returnal reproduces the physical intensity of third-person shooting better than any other recommendation here, but its structure is fundamentally different. Combat is fast, projectile-heavy, and demanding; the screen can fill with threats in a way The Order: 1886 rarely does.

Why it feels similar
- You aim and fire from an over-the-shoulder perspective throughout combat.
- The presentation is built around a high-production science-fiction world and dramatic set pieces.
- Success depends on movement, positioning, target prioritization, and learning enemy patterns rather than simply absorbing damage.
What changes
Returnal is a bullet-hell roguelike. Instead of moving once through a fixed sequence of chapters, you repeat runs through changing rooms, collect temporary advantages, and try to progress farther after each death. That loop makes it much more replay-driven and substantially more difficult than a conventional linear action game. The story is delivered through repeated attempts and discoveries, not through one uninterrupted march from opening scene to finale.
Who should choose it
Pick Returnal if your priority is demanding shooting and movement, and you are comfortable losing a run and starting again. Avoid it if your main requirement is a predictable, short, cinematic campaign with frequent scripted transitions. It is a superb action game, but it is not a substitute for The Order: 1886’s linear structure.

3. Max Payne 3: the best fit for cinematic gunplay
Max Payne 3 is the clearest recommendation when “like The Order: 1886” means a tightly directed campaign centered on firearms. A PC-focused roundup highlights its slow-motion bullet-time shooting and visceral action. The result is a linear, authored experience in which the feel of each firefight matters as much as the route through the level.
