Ready or Not: close-quarters squad procedure
Pick Ready or Not if what you enjoy in a tactical shooter is clearing rooms with a team, coordinating breaches, and managing the consequences of mission decisions. Its missions are structured rather than an open-world military campaign, so it is a better fit for deliberate SWAT operations than for roaming a large map with a contemporary military squad.

Sniper Elite 5: stealth, scouting, and a partner campaign
Sniper Elite 5 shifts the focus to stealth and deliberate ranged combat. Its third-person campaign is set in France in 1944 and can be played solo or with a partner. In co-op, players can share ammunition and items, give orders, and heal one another. A separate Survival mode supports up to four players total, including the host.

This is the closest fit here if you want to plan an approach, scout targets, and take careful shots. It is not a modern squad-command or open-world military game. PlayStation’s game page describes the campaign and co-op options.
Arma Reforger: military sandbox, multiplayer, and modding
Choose Arma Reforger if you want a military simulation sandbox where multiplayer modes, custom scenarios, and community modifications are central to the appeal. Bohemia Interactive identifies its Conflict mode as player versus player and its Game Master mode as a way to create scenarios. The game also supports extensive modding through Workbench.

It is available on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and the publisher describes it as a standalone milestone on the road to Arma 4. The official pages do not establish a solo campaign recommendation, so do not choose it on the assumption that it offers a Ghost Recon-style solo story. Gray Zone Warfare: persistent-world PvE and extraction
Gray Zone Warfare is the option for players drawn to an open world, tactical survival, and extraction-style operations rather than a self-contained campaign. MADFINGER describes PvE and PvEvP operations, AI enemies and rival factions, injury management, and extensive weapon customization. Its official page describes the world as 42 km².

Treat it as an evolving product, not a settled campaign recommendation. On October 3, 2026, the official home page said update 0.5 would mark a transition from pre-alpha to alpha, with its teaser pointing to fall 2026. The announced transition is a development milestone, not proof that the game has already reached that state. What to check before choosing
- Mission structure: Decide whether you want authored SWAT missions, a campaign, player-created scenarios, or a persistent extraction world.
- Solo versus co-op: A game being playable alone does not mean its design centers on a solo campaign. Sniper Elite 5 explicitly supports solo campaign play; Arma Reforger is presented around multiplayer and scenarios.
- Tactical style: These choices span SWAT room clearing, historical stealth and sniping, military simulation, and survival extraction. Their differences matter more than a claim that one is the closest overall match.
- Platform and online access: Confirm the exact edition, supported platform, and any console online subscription requirement for your region. The stated PS Plus requirement applies to the US PS5 listing for Ready or Not.
- Development and community dependence: Arma Reforger leans on multiplayer, scenarios, and modding; Gray Zone Warfare is actively developing. Official sources do not provide a comparable learning-curve measure, so complexity is best treated as a matter of play style rather than a numeric ranking.
