There is no objectively best Street Fighter 6 costume for Zangief, E. Honda, or Dhalsim. The right choice depends on how much you want to change each fighter’s silhouette, how closely you want the look to preserve that character’s identity, and whether your taste runs classic, humorous, or dramatic.
For all three fighters, the relevant comparison is usually the default costume versus Outfit 3. Capcom announced Outfit 3 for the 18-character launch roster, released on December 1, 2023, describing the collection as inspired by illustrations in the game, different cultures, and humor. However, the official announcements do not rank the individual designs or provide enough character-specific detail to name a universal winner. Use the in-game preview to make the final call, then apply the decision framework below.

The short answer: choose by style, not by a universal ranking
If you want a practical answer before opening the game, decide which of these priorities matters most:
Recommended Free Tools
| Priority | What to look for on Zangief, E. Honda, or Dhalsim | Best decision |
|---|---|---|
| Visual distinction | A noticeably different outline, clothing arrangement, color blocking, or accessories when compared with the default. | Pick the outfit that remains recognizable at a distance but does not look like a minor color swap. |
| Character fit | Whether the costume still communicates the fighter’s established personality, movement, and wrestling, sumo, or yoga-based identity. | Pick the design that feels natural during intros, attacks, victory poses, and drive-impact animations. |
| Tone | Whether the presentation feels traditional, playful, or more serious and theatrical. | Match the outfit to the mood you want to bring to local matches, ranked play, or replays. |
| Value | Whether you are judging appearance only or also considering access, colors, and the price shown in your region. | Preview first and verify the live store listing before spending Fighter Coins or buying a pass. |
The most defensible recommendation is therefore conditional: use the default when its classic identity is your priority; use Outfit 3 when its current in-game presentation gives you a stronger silhouette or tone. Any article that declares one of these three characters an objective costume winner is making a taste judgment, not reporting an official result.
#1 Best Overall
- Classic Experience Built for a Modern Era: With all core gameplay modes present, plus two brand new modes and enhanced visuals, Street Fighter 6 redefines the classic fighting game genre.
- Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
- Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
- In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
- Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.
What Street Fighter 6 Outfit 3 includes
Capcom’s Japanese announcement covered Outfit 3 for all 18 characters in the launch roster and set the release date as December 1, 2023. The announcement says the designs draw on in-game illustrations, different cultures, and humor, but it does not establish a separate ranking for Zangief, E. Honda, or Dhalsim. You can read the announcement at Capcom Japan’s Outfit 3 release notice.
Capcom France reported at launch that each original-cast Outfit 3 cost 300 Fighter Coins and included ten colors. That is a December 2023 release-era figure, not a verified price for every current region or storefront. The same report said Outfit 3 could not be unlocked through World Tour mode. Check the historical details in Capcom France’s Outfit 3 announcement, then confirm what your own game shows today.
A later Capcom Town Store announcement says an Ultimate Pass includes Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 costumes together with the associated Character Pass content. The base game is required separately; owning a pass does not replace ownership of Street Fighter 6. The pass description is available at Capcom Town Store.
How to judge the three costumes in the game
Because official collection-level material does not describe every character’s current model, the most reliable evidence is the preview shown in your own copy of Street Fighter 6. A careful comparison takes only a few minutes but avoids buying a costume that looks appealing in a static thumbnail and disappointing in motion.
- Open the character-selection or Fighting Ground costume preview. Navigate to the costume or outfit selector for the fighter you want to examine. Menu labels can vary by platform and version, so use the on-screen prompt rather than assuming a particular button.
- Switch between the default and Outfit 3 without changing colors. First compare the base silhouettes. Look at the head, shoulders, torso, waist, legs, and feet as separate visual zones.
- Watch the full animation set. Check the opening, standing idle, forward walk, backward walk, jump, Drive Impact, critical-art sequence, win pose, and character-specific taunts. A costume that looks excellent in a still image can read very differently while moving.
- Preview several stages and lighting conditions. Bright daylight, shadowed arenas, and strong background colors can change how clearly a pattern or accessory reads. Do not judge only from the menu’s neutral lighting.
- Compare the colors you would actually use. The historical launch report listed ten colors for each original-cast Outfit 3, but the live selection and availability should be verified in your region. A color that preserves the character’s identity may be more useful than the default Outfit 3 swatch.
- Score the design before looking at its price. Give each outfit a one-to-five score for visual distinction, character fit, tone, and animation readability. Then decide whether the access method and price justify the score.
This process separates an appearance decision from a purchase decision. It also makes your final ranking personal and reproducible: you can explain why one costume won without pretending Capcom published an objective verdict.
Zangief: choose between maximum presence and classic identity
Zangief’s costume decision should begin with silhouette. He is one of the largest bodies on the roster, so relatively small changes to the shoulders, torso, belt area, boots, or accessories can have a larger visual effect than they would on a slimmer fighter. The question is not simply whether Outfit 3 is different; it is whether the difference remains readable during a fast match.

When the default is the better choice
- Choose the default if you want the most immediately recognizable version of Zangief and prefer a traditional presentation.
- Keep it when your replays, screenshots, or local-tournament sets are meant to communicate the familiar character first and the costume concept second.
- Use it when Outfit 3’s extra details make the body outline harder for you to read during jumps, spinning attacks, or close-range throws.
When Outfit 3 is the better choice
- Choose Outfit 3 when its current preview creates a stronger sense of occasion or theatricality without obscuring Zangief’s massive frame.
- Favor it if you want a deliberate change from the default for a second player profile, training-room recordings, or a themed set of matches.
- Pick it when the costume’s colors and accessories reinforce the imposing, showman-like energy you want from your grappler.
Zangief scoring checklist
| Question | What a high score means |
|---|---|
| Can you identify the body outline instantly? | The costume preserves the broad shoulders, large torso, and powerful stance as clear visual anchors. |
| Does it support the wrestler persona you want? | The design feels larger-than-life rather than disconnected from a heavyweight grappler. |
| Does it stay readable during throws? | Hands, arms, and the opponent’s position remain easy to follow in command-grab animations. |
| Does the tone suit your use? | It looks right for a serious ranked session, a humorous lobby match, or a dramatic replay, depending on your preference. |
There is no official evidence that Zangief’s Outfit 3 is universally more accurate, funnier, or more dramatic than his default. Treat those as your own criteria after viewing the current model.
E. Honda: preserve sumo cues or embrace a larger visual change
E. Honda’s comparison hinges on how much traditional sumo identity you want visible at a glance. His body proportions, stance, hair, and attack animations already communicate the character, so a successful alternate costume can change the presentation while leaving those gameplay-readable cues intact.
When the default is the better choice
- Use the default if your priority is immediate recognition of E. Honda as a sumo wrestler.
- Choose it when you prefer a conservative, heritage-focused look for serious matches or when you want the classic version represented in a replay.
- Keep it if Outfit 3’s visual treatment competes with the stance, hand motions, or silhouette that you associate with Honda.
When Outfit 3 is the better choice
- Choose Outfit 3 if you want a clear change in mood while the in-game preview still reads as E. Honda during movement and attack animations.
- Favor it when the alternate presentation makes your character-select screen, lobby matches, or clips feel less repetitive.
- Use it when one of its available colors gives you stronger contrast against the stages where you commonly play.
E. Honda scoring checklist
| Question | What to inspect |
|---|---|
| Are the sumo references still clear? | Check whether the posture, proportions, and movement retain the identity you expect, even when clothing changes. |
| Does the outfit support Honda’s personality? | Decide whether the mood feels dignified, playful, or exaggerated in a way you enjoy. |
| Do attacks remain easy to read? | Watch Hundred Hand Slap, headbutt, butt slam, and command-grab animations for visual clutter around the hands and torso. |
| Does the color work in real matches? | Test more than one stage; a pattern that looks clear in the menu can disappear against a busy background. |
Official announcements do not identify a “most authentic” or “best-looking” Honda costume. If authenticity is your deciding factor, state exactly which cues matter to you instead of treating a personal preference as a fact.
Dhalsim: prioritize motion, clarity, and the tone of the design
Dhalsim’s long limbs and unusual attack range make motion especially important. A costume can look striking in a front-facing preview but become visually noisy when arms and legs stretch across the screen. For him, inspect the entire animation set and the contrast between the body, clothing, and stage background.
When the default is the better choice
- Use the default when you want the most familiar Dhalsim presentation and the clearest connection to his established identity.
- Choose it if you find the alternate outfit’s details distracting during long-range normals, teleport movement, or yoga attacks.
- Keep it when your priority is a restrained, consistent look across story, arcade, and online modes.
When Outfit 3 is the better choice
- Choose Outfit 3 when its current model gives Dhalsim a distinctive tone without reducing the readability of his extended limbs.
- Favor it if you want a more dramatic or playful presentation for highlight clips, themed sessions, or a change from the default.
- Pick the color that maintains clear separation between Dhalsim and the stage during Yoga Fire, Yoga Flame, and long-reaching attacks.
Dhalsim scoring checklist
| Question | What to inspect |
|---|---|
| Are stretched limbs easy to track? | Watch full-speed attacks rather than relying on a static pose. |
| Does the design preserve Dhalsim’s identity? | Check whether the overall tone still feels appropriate for his calm, eccentric fighter persona. |
| Is the color contrast reliable? | Test dark and bright stages, since Dhalsim’s extended limbs cover a large portion of the screen. |
| Does the costume improve your enjoyment? | Choose it only if the visual change is noticeable enough to justify using an alternate outfit. |
Do not claim that one Dhalsim costume is objectively superior based solely on a promotional image. The evidence available publicly describes the collection, not a character-by-character design evaluation.

Rank #3
- Enter the stadium and take part of one of the biggest competitions across 34 sports: from swimming, soccer, extreme bike, weightlifting, trampoline and much more!
- Defend your own country and visit the World: United States, Australia, Japan, France…
- Train yourself alone or compete with your friends!
- An enhanced version of “30 Sport Games in 1”, with revamped design, new games and more customisation!
- Visual distinction — 30 percent. Compare the complete outline and major color blocks, not just a new accessory.
- Character fit — 30 percent. Judge whether the design supports the fighter’s personality and fighting identity.
- Animation readability — 20 percent. Watch attacks, movement, throws, and victory scenes at normal speed.
- Tone — 10 percent. Record whether the outfit feels classic, humorous, dramatic, or another category you define.
- Value and access — 10 percent. Consider the live price, included colors, and whether you already own an applicable pass.
Multiply each score by its weight, then write one sentence explaining the result. For example, a costume can win on visual distinction but lose on character fit; that is a meaningful trade-off, not a contradiction. If two outfits are close, call them tied rather than inventing a difference your scoring cannot support.
How to buy or access the costumes
Buying a standalone costume
Capcom France’s December 2023 report listed 300 Fighter Coins for each original-cast Outfit 3 and ten included colors. Because that figure is historical, open the current in-game or platform store listing for your region and confirm the displayed price before purchasing. Regional taxes, currency conversion, later store changes, or platform-specific availability can make the live total different.
Using an Ultimate Pass
Capcom Town Store says an Ultimate Pass includes Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 costumes along with the related Character Pass content. The base game must be purchased separately. If you already own some pass content, compare what the pass adds before paying for it; do not assume a pass automatically refunds duplicate purchases.
What World Tour does and does not do
The December 2023 Capcom France report stated that Outfit 3 could not be unlocked through World Tour mode. If the costume is not appearing as a World Tour reward, that behavior is consistent with the release information; check the current store and your account entitlements instead of repeatedly replaying missions.
Base-game requirement
You need Street Fighter 6 itself to use the costumes. A physical copy of the base game is an enabling purchase, not proof that Outfit 3 is included in the box. Confirm the edition contents on the retailer or platform page before assuming downloadable costumes are bundled.
Common mistakes when choosing a costume
- Confusing a color with a new outfit. Compare the default model and Outfit 3 first, then evaluate alternate colors.
- Judging from one screenshot. Long limbs, throws, camera cuts, and special moves can change the impression completely.
- Treating the launch price as current. The 300-Fighter-Coin figure is tied to the December 2023 report; verify today’s listing.
- Assuming the pass includes the base game. The Capcom Town Store announcement explicitly says the game must be owned separately.
- Expecting World Tour unlocks. The cited release report said Outfit 3 was not unlockable through World Tour mode.
- Calling taste an official ranking. Capcom announced the collection and its inspirations, not a winner among Zangief, E. Honda, and Dhalsim.
- Ignoring stage contrast. A costume that looks clear in a menu may blend into a stage during gameplay.
Final recommendation
For Zangief, E. Honda, and Dhalsim, the best Street Fighter 6 costume is the one that wins your own four-part test: visible change, character fit, preferred tone, and acceptable value. Start with the default, preview Outfit 3 in motion, test the colors you would actually use, and verify the current store terms. The official record supports Outfit 3’s launch context, historical price, color count, and pass availability; it does not support an objective character-by-character winner.
