Compare specific titles and franchises, ads and exclusions, simultaneous streams, downloads, device support, and bundle terms before subscribing. The prices below are for U.S. plans shown on official pages accessed October 4, 2026; check the relevant local plan page for current terms.
How to choose a streaming service
Start with your watch list, not a universal ranking. A service may be strong in originals or a particular franchise and still be a poor fit if it lacks the library titles your household wants. Catalogs and rights change, and what appears can depend on your location and plan.

- List the titles that matter. Include current series, films, older library titles, franchises, and originals—not just broad genres.
- Check the exact plan. Compare monthly and annual billing, renewal terms, ads, excluded categories, downloads, video quality, and simultaneous streams.
- Calculate the bundle against your real alternatives. A bundle saves money only if its included services replace subscriptions you would otherwise keep. Check which app carries each title and which rules apply to each library.
- Confirm access. Check the service’s availability in your country and support for your specific TV or device before paying.
These distinctions matter as catalogs grow and change: the FCC’s 2024 report cited third-party analysis counting 367 new TV seasons released by seven large services in the first half of 2024, compared with 452 in the first half of 2023. That is not an FCC-produced original count, and it does not tell you which service has the shows you want.

Apple TV: Apple originals, without ads
Apple describes Apple TV as the home of Apple Originals, with new releases weekly and no ads. Its U.S. page lists $14.99 per month after a seven-day trial. That subscription does not include third-party subscription services or content available to rent or buy in the Apple TV app. The page also lists Friday Night Baseball, MLS matches, and U.S.-only Formula 1 coverage beginning in 2026; sports rights are subject to change.
Apple says subscriptions can be shared with up to five family members. Its app is listed for Apple devices, smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, Android, Windows, and the web, so a separate streaming player is not automatically necessary. Check Apple TV’s U.S. plan and device details.

Peacock: check what the lowest tier leaves out
Peacock’s U.S. page lists three tiers. Select includes TV favorites but excludes sports, movies, and Peacock Originals. Premium adds live sports, hit movies, and Peacock Originals, with ads. Premium Plus includes those categories, downloads, and no ads in most content—but ads remain on channels and live sports or events, some content cannot be downloaded, and other limited exceptions apply.

Disney+ and Hulu bundle: two libraries, with app and stream limits
Hulu’s U.S. page lists a Disney+ and Hulu bundle at $12.99 per month and a Premium bundle at $21.99 per month. Hulu describes its library as including full seasons, current episodes, Hulu Originals, movies, and kids’ shows; Disney+ includes Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. The page describes two simultaneous screens for Hulu and four for Disney+, plus selected downloads on supported devices.
A bundle does not merge every title or rule into one library. Hulu says selected Hulu content may be available in Disney+, while other content remains in the Hulu app. Access, location, app features, simultaneous streaming, and rights restrictions can vary, and some content or add-ons still require Hulu. Confirm the exact tier, eligibility, and renewal price. Check Hulu’s current U.S. bundle terms.

Treat that as editorial comparison rather than an official source for current prices or plan terms: those details are not verified here against the services’ own plan pages. Check each provider’s current local plans and the specific titles you want before making a price comparison.
Check compatibility before buying streaming hardware
Many services already support smart TVs, streaming devices, consoles, phones, or web browsers. Apple, for example, lists its app on smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, Android, Windows, and the web. A separate 4K streaming media player may be useful if your TV lacks a compatible app, but it is optional—not a requirement for everyone. Confirm app availability for the exact TV model, your country’s catalog, and the video capabilities you need before buying any device.

Keep the total subscription bill in view
More than 35% of respondents in a Tom’s Guide survey said they pay more than $60 monthly for streaming, according to the publication’s June 2026 survey, reported September 6, 2026. That is a survey result, not a nationally representative figure established by the information available here. Still, it is a useful reason to compare the subscriptions your household actually uses, rather than choosing several services by reputation alone. Revisit the list when a show ends or a bundle’s renewal terms change.
