The official PlayStation 5 HD Camera (CFI-ZEY series) is the simplest, best-supported choice for appearing in a PS5 broadcast. Sony specifies dual wide-angle lenses for 1080p capture, an adjustable built-in stand, and PS5 tools that can remove or crop your background. It is an optional accessory sold separately. If you already own a PS4 PlayStation Camera (CUH-ZEY series), Sony also lists that camera family as usable in PS5 broadcasts, but it is a different choice from buying a new HD Camera.
The right camera depends mainly on what you already own and whether you need PlayStation VR. The PS5 HD Camera is not compatible with PS VR; PS VR on a PS5 requires the older PS4 PlayStation Camera and a PlayStation Camera adapter.

Which camera is best for PS5 streaming?
For a new purchase intended primarily for console broadcasting, choose the PlayStation 5 HD Camera, CFI-ZEY series. It is the camera Sony designed and documents for PS5 broadcasts, so the setup follows the console’s own menus rather than an unverified third-party compatibility path.
Sony’s product description says the camera has “dual lenses for 1080p capture and a built-in stand” and works with the PS5 console’s background-removal tools. That is a manufacturer specification and feature claim, not an independent laboratory rating of sharpness, low-light performance, frame rate, or image quality. The practical advantage is supported integration: you can select camera video in the PS5 broadcast options and use the console’s built-in camera controls.
#1 Best Overall
- Built-in adjustable stand helps you get the perfect shot.
- Stand's compact design allows it to be securely positioned above or below your TV.
- Quickly record or broadcast yourself and your gameplay via your DualSense wireless controller's Create button.
- 1080p capture delivers smooth, sharp Full HD via the camera's dual wide-angle lenses for your most epic gaming moments.
- PS5's background removal tools let you take centre stage in your productions; add yourself to your gameplay videos while broadcasting in picture-in-picture mode, crop the background, or lose it entirely with a green screen.
There are two Sony camera families relevant to this decision:
- HD Camera (CFI-ZEY series): the straightforward new-buy option for PS5 broadcasting, with advertised 1080p capture, dual wide-angle lenses and an adjustable stand.
- PlayStation Camera (CUH-ZEY series): the older PS4 camera that Sony lists as usable in PS5 broadcasts. It is most relevant when you already own one. For PS VR on PS5, this older camera is the required camera family and must be used with a PlayStation Camera adapter.
Sony’s support documentation does not establish that one camera produces better-looking video than the other in every room. It also does not provide a head-to-head comparison with generic USB webcams. Choose on supported use, ownership and PS VR requirements rather than an assumed quality ranking.

What the PS5 HD Camera actually provides
1080p capture from dual wide-angle lenses
The advertised video resolution is 1080p. The two wide-angle lenses are intended to cover the player without requiring the camera to be far from the console or the seating position. “1080p” describes the manufacturer’s capture specification; it does not by itself promise a particular bitrate, frame rate, color rendering or performance in a dim room.

Just plug it in, and you’re ready to go, making it an easy addition to your workflow. For those looking to fine-tune image parameters or enhance sound quality, EMEETLINK software is available for advanced customization. Both simplicity and advanced needs can be met effortlessly.
Adjustable built-in stand
The stand lets you place the camera on a level surface and angle it toward your chair or play area. A stable position matters because moving the camera after adjustment can change the framing and make the player appear off-center. The stand is part of the camera, so the documented setup does not require a separate stand for the basic PS5 broadcast use case.
Background removal and cropping tools
PS5 broadcast tools can crop or remove the background, with a green screen available for background removal. These are console features used with the camera feed; they are not evidence that the camera performs automatic subject separation perfectly in every lighting or room arrangement. A clean, evenly lit background generally gives the software an easier subject to isolate, while objects that blend into clothing or hair can remain difficult for any background-removal system.
What is not established
The official specifications supplied for this choice do not establish a retail price, current stock, independent test score, low-light ranking, microphone quality, lens field-of-view measurement, supported frame-rate modes or value comparison against third-party webcams. Those details can vary by market and by retailer. Treat the 1080p figure as the known specification and avoid buying on an unverified performance promise.

Check compatibility before you buy
If your goal is a normal PS5 broadcast
Confirm that you are buying the CFI-ZEY HD Camera family or that you already have a CUH-ZEY PlayStation Camera. Sony’s broadcast instructions name those camera families. The camera is optional to the PS5 console, and you need a linked streaming account, such as YouTube or Twitch, to go live from the console.

If your goal is PlayStation VR
Do not substitute the HD Camera. Sony states that the HD Camera is not compatible with PS VR. A PS5 running PS VR uses the PS4 PlayStation Camera with a PlayStation Camera adapter. This is a separate use case from placing your face in a gameplay broadcast, so decide which job the camera must perform before ordering.
If you are looking at a generic webcam
Official PS5 material reviewed here does not establish universal USB-webcam support for direct console broadcasting. A webcam may work in another streaming setup involving a computer or capture hardware, but that is not the same as a documented, direct PS5 broadcast connection. Without model-specific confirmation, consider compatibility unknown rather than guaranteed.

What you need for a direct PS5 broadcast
- A PS5 console and a compatible Sony camera: the HD Camera (CFI-ZEY series) or the listed PS4 PlayStation Camera (CUH-ZEY series).
- The camera’s supplied connection cable. Sony’s setup instructions tell you to connect it to a rear USB port.
- A level, stable surface facing the place where you sit or stand.
- A streaming account linked to the PS5, such as YouTube or Twitch.
- A game or other PS5 content to broadcast. Camera video is selected as part of the broadcast options rather than being a separate recording workflow.
Sony’s port guide identifies rear Type-A SuperSpeed USB ports in the listed PS5 layout and says the HD Camera, or the PlayStation Camera with adapter, should use a SuperSpeed USB port. PS5 port layouts vary by model, so check the official port guide for your exact console rather than relying on a diagram for a different revision.
How to connect and adjust the camera
- Connect the cable. Plug the supplied camera cable into the camera and a rear USB port on the PS5. For the older PlayStation Camera, use the required adapter when the PS5 or the intended PS VR setup calls for it.
- Position the camera. Set it on a level, stable surface facing the player. Put it where the lens has an unobstructed view of the area you intend to show. Avoid a position that can wobble when you press buttons, move a desk or adjust the console.
- Open the camera adjustment screen. On the PS5 home screen, go to Settings > Accessories > Other Accessories > Adjust HD Camera.
- Follow the on-screen framing instructions. Adjust the stand angle until your head and upper body are framed as intended. If you change the camera’s position later, repeat the adjustment so the console’s preview matches the actual broadcast composition.
- Check the room behind you. If you plan to use background removal, make sure the camera can distinguish you from the background. A green screen can be used with the PS5’s background-removal tools, but it is not required for ordinary camera video.
How to include the camera in a live broadcast
- Press the controller’s Create button.
- Select Broadcast.
- Choose the streaming service you want to use.
- Enter the requested broadcast details. If the service is not linked, follow the prompt to link the account.
- Open Broadcast Options and enable the camera video option.
- Review the preview and framing, then select Go Live.
Camera video is optional even after the camera is connected. If you want gameplay audio and your voice but not a face-cam image, leave camera video disabled in Broadcast Options. Conversely, connecting the camera alone does not automatically make it visible to viewers; it must be selected for the individual broadcast.
Framing and background decisions
Choose a position that stays fixed
Place the camera where it can remain between broadcasts. The support guidance specifically recommends a stable surface and adjusting the angle for the intended area. A fixed position keeps your face-cam layout predictable and prevents a changed angle from cutting off your head or showing more of the room than you intended.

Use the wide-angle view deliberately
Wide-angle lenses can include more of the surrounding area than a narrow lens. Sit at the distance that lets your face and shoulders fit naturally in the preview, then use the stand angle to center yourself. If too much background appears, move the camera or player position rather than assuming a crop will preserve the same composition.
Decide whether to remove the background
For a simple face-cam overlay, leave the normal camera image enabled. If you want only yourself over the game, use the PS5 background-removal controls and test the result before going live. A green screen can provide a clearer boundary for removal, but it introduces another physical setup and is not necessary for the camera to function.
Troubleshooting an unclear or unstable image
The picture looks blurry or hazy
- Turn off the console or pause setup long enough to handle the camera safely, then clean the lenses with a clean, dry microfiber cloth.
- Do not put water or cleaning fluid on the lenses.
- Check the lens surfaces for scratches, cracks or other damage. Cleaning cannot correct physical damage.
- Move closer if you are sitting so far away that your face occupies only a small part of the wide-angle image.
The framing changes between broadcasts
- Return the camera to the same stable, level surface.
- Check that the stand angle has not shifted.
- Run Settings > Accessories > Other Accessories > Adjust HD Camera again after changing the position.
The camera does not appear in broadcast options
- Confirm the cable is fully seated at both ends.
- Move the connection to an appropriate rear SuperSpeed USB port, using the port guide for your PS5 model.
- Confirm that you are using a Sony camera family named in the PS5 broadcast documentation rather than assuming a generic USB webcam is supported.
- Open the broadcast flow with the Create button and check Broadcast Options; connecting a camera does not automatically enable camera video.
Background removal looks rough
Reposition yourself so the camera has a clear view of your outline and reduce visual clutter behind you. A green screen can help the PS5 separate the background, but the feature remains a software effect rather than a guarantee of perfect edges around hair, controllers or similarly colored clothing.

Buying new for ordinary PS5 broadcasting favors the HD Camera because it is the native PS5 accessory documented for that purpose. Keeping an existing CUH-ZEY PlayStation Camera can be sensible when you already own it and only need a compatible camera feed. The available official information does not justify claiming that the older camera is better, cheaper, sharper or more reliable in a new purchase decision.
PS VR changes the decision completely: the HD Camera cannot serve as the PS VR camera. If VR is the priority, use the PS4 PlayStation Camera and the required adapter, then treat face-cam broadcasting as a separate compatibility question.
A practical buying checklist
- Define the use: face-cam broadcasting, PS VR, or both.
- Check what you own: identify whether an existing camera is the CUH-ZEY PlayStation Camera family.
- For a new broadcast camera, select the CFI-ZEY HD Camera: it is the official PS5-oriented option with the documented 1080p feature set.
- Verify the console connection: plan to use the supplied cable and an appropriate rear SuperSpeed USB port.
- Confirm account readiness: link the streaming service before the first live session.
- Plan placement: reserve a stable, level surface that faces your playing position.
- Ignore unsupported promises: do not assume a generic webcam, a particular frame rate, a low-light advantage or a price advantage without model-specific evidence.
What the official documentation does—and does not—tell you
Sony’s product and support pages establish the camera families that can appear in a PS5 broadcast, the HD Camera’s advertised 1080p capture, its dual wide-angle lenses and built-in stand, the console’s background-removal tools, the setup path and the PS VR camera requirement. They do not independently rank image quality, publish a universal webcam-compatibility list, or establish current retail prices and stock. Those omissions matter when comparing products: a specification such as 1080p is useful for identifying the supported model, but it is not a complete picture of how a camera will look in every room.
