Recommended Free Tools
Start with the native Linux build at 1280×800, the highest available in-game quality preset, and a 60 FPS cap. If pacing feels uneven or battery use is higher than you want, set the Deck display to 40 Hz and cap the game at 40 FPS. Use 30 Hz/30 FPS only when battery life matters more than responsiveness. These are sensible starting targets based on the game’s published requirements and 2D design, not results from a title-specific Steam Deck benchmark.
The recommended starting profile
Burn With Me is listed on Steam as a single-player, 2D, hand-drawn narrative deckbuilder with position-based gameplay, six chapters and nearly 100 cards. That workload is modest compared with a modern 3D game, so there is no reason to begin by lowering resolution, forcing a compatibility layer or restricting the processor. Use the native Linux launch option first and let the game run at the Deck’s native 1280×800 output.

| Profile | Display and frame target | Quality target | Best for | Compatibility approach |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Responsive | 1280×800, 60 Hz, 60 FPS cap | Highest available preset | Most responsive input and animation | Native Linux launch; no workaround expected |
| Balanced | 1280×800, 40 Hz, 40 FPS cap | Highest available preset | A steadier battery-conscious target without dropping to 30 FPS | Native Linux launch; no workaround expected |
| Battery-first | 1280×800, 30 Hz, 30 FPS cap | Highest available preset | Longer unplugged sessions when responsiveness is less important | Native Linux launch; no workaround expected |
The frame-rate numbers in this table are operating targets. The available sources do not publish a Burn With Me frame-time capture, battery measurement, temperature result or Steam Deck Verified status, so they should not be read as measured performance claims.

Those specifications do not prove a particular frame rate on a Steam Deck. They do establish that a native Linux build exists and that the listed minimum is comparatively modest. That is why the recommended setup keeps the native output and highest available quality instead of applying aggressive performance cuts before you have observed a problem.
The Steam store lists 12 October 2026 as the release date, Nozomu Games as developer and Inner Pocket as publisher. A store snapshot accessed on 18 October 2026 showed 90% positive from 252 all-time user reviews; that is a reception statistic, not a performance test.
Set up the native Linux version step by step
- Install the regular Steam version. In your Library, select Burn With Me and install it normally. Do not force a Proton compatibility tool for the first launch.
- Confirm that Steam can use the Linux build. Open the game’s Properties, check the Compatibility page and leave any forced compatibility option disabled. Steam should select the native Linux executable when it is available.
- Keep the Deck at its native output. Open the game’s display settings if it offers a resolution selector and choose 1280×800. Avoid adding a lower internal resolution as a first-line fix; the game is 2D and the published requirements are modest.
- Choose the highest available quality preset. If the game exposes quality options, start at the top preset. If it has no quality selector, leave its defaults unchanged rather than inventing a lower profile.
- Apply a 60 FPS cap. Use the game’s frame-rate limit when one is available. If you use SteamOS’s per-game performance controls instead, set the frame limit to 60 and keep the display refresh rate at 60 Hz.
- Play a representative section. Move through several menus, card interactions and position-based encounters rather than judging only the title screen. You are checking for visible pacing problems, input delay and unwanted battery draw, not trying to establish a benchmark.
- Only then test the balanced profile. If 60 FPS is inconsistent or consumes more power than you want, open the Deck’s Quick Access menu, go to the Performance controls, select a 40 Hz refresh rate and set the game limit to 40 FPS. Keep the 1280×800 resolution and highest quality preset.
- Use the battery-first profile when necessary. Set the display to 30 Hz and the game to 30 FPS. This is the fallback for maximum efficiency, not the default recommendation for a game whose interactions benefit from a more responsive feel.
How to choose between 60, 40 and 30 FPS
60 FPS: the first choice for responsiveness
A 60 FPS cap gives the game the highest of the three recommended update targets and avoids imposing a visible 30-FPS cadence on card selection, menus and position changes. Use it when the game looks consistent and you prefer the most immediate feel. Because no title-specific Deck test is published, treat 60 FPS as a starting target rather than a promise that every scene will hold it.

40 FPS at 40 Hz: the practical middle ground
Forty FPS paired with a 40 Hz display refresh is the balanced profile. It reduces the number of frames the Deck must produce compared with 60 FPS while retaining a faster cadence than 30 FPS. Select both values together; a 40 FPS cap on a 60 Hz display does not create the same evenly matched refresh pattern as 40 Hz/40 FPS.
30 FPS at 30 Hz: the battery-first fallback
Thirty FPS at 30 Hz minimizes the frame-update target among these profiles. It is appropriate for long sessions away from a charger or when the game is perfectly comfortable at a slower cadence. Expect less responsive animation and input than with the 40-FPS or 60-FPS profiles.
Native Linux versus Proton
The Linux executable and Linux/X11 requirement mean the native build should be your baseline. Running it natively avoids adding a compatibility layer before you know one is needed. It also gives you a clear troubleshooting baseline: if a later change causes a launch or rendering problem, you can return to the original native configuration.

When not to force Proton
- Do not force Proton merely because a compatibility option is visible in Steam.
- Do not switch away from the native launch while you are still establishing whether the default build works.
- Do not describe Proton as a performance improvement without a measured comparison for your Deck and the current game build.
Use Proton only as a troubleshooting experiment
- Open the game’s Properties in Steam and select Compatibility.
- Enable Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool.
- Choose an installed Proton version, launch the game and record which version you tested.
- Compare launch behavior and visible pacing with the native configuration at the same resolution, quality preset and frame cap.
- If Proton does not solve the specific problem, disable the forced option and return to the native Linux launch.
A compatibility-layer test is a workaround, not evidence that Proton is required. The available platform records do not identify a Proton-only feature or a title-specific Proton fix.

Leave the Deck’s TDP and GPU controls at their defaults until an actual issue appears. The game is a 2D deckbuilder with a published minimum of 4 GB RAM, 2 GB video memory, 2 GB storage and a 2.5 GHz-or-better processor; there is no evidence here that manual power tuning is necessary to reach the recommended targets.
Changing several controls at once makes a problem harder to diagnose. Establish one of the three resolution-and-cap profiles first. If you later adjust a power control, change one setting, play the same section again and note whether the change addressed a specific symptom. Do not treat a lower power limit as automatically better: it may reduce headroom without solving a frame-pacing issue.

Troubleshooting by symptom
The game does not launch with the native option
- Close the game completely and restart Steam.
- Open Properties and confirm that no compatibility tool is being forced.
- Verify the installation files using Steam’s installed-files option.
- Try launching again at the default 1280×800 configuration.
- If a current patch still prevents launch, test one Proton version as a temporary diagnostic and record the version. Revert to native Linux if it does not help.
This sequence distinguishes a local installation problem from a compatibility-layer change. The available platform information does not identify a universal launch failure for Burn With Me.
The game feels uneven at the 60 FPS target
- Check that the Deck display is still at 60 Hz and that only one frame limiter is controlling the game.
- Keep 1280×800 and the highest preset for the first check; changing resolution and quality together hides the cause.
- Try the matched 40 Hz/40 FPS profile.
- If pacing remains uncomfortable, test 30 Hz/30 FPS and compare the feel. Do not call the result a measured benchmark; it is a configuration choice for your device.
You want less battery draw
- Move from 60 Hz/60 FPS to the matched 40 Hz/40 FPS profile before lowering image quality.
- If battery life remains the priority, use 30 Hz/30 FPS.
- Keep TDP and GPU controls at default unless you have a separate, reproducible reason to tune them.
The profiles express relative goals—60 FPS favors responsiveness, 40 FPS is balanced and 30 FPS favors battery life. No published test supplies wattage, runtime or temperature figures for this title.

- Return to the Deck’s native 1280×800 output.
- Check that the game is not being launched with an alternate compatibility configuration that changes its display behavior.
- Restore the highest available quality preset and retest before changing any performance control.
Because the game is 2D and hand-drawn, preserving the native output is the clearest first check. There is no documented title-specific scaling recommendation beyond the native resolution target.
Best Value
What these settings can—and cannot—tell you
A stable-looking 60 FPS counter on your Deck would describe your particular hardware, SteamOS build, game build and scene. It would not establish a universal result for every Deck owner. Conversely, an occasional dip or pacing issue on one system would not prove that the Linux build is broadly unsuitable.
The available official and platform records establish supported operating systems, executable names, minimum requirements and game structure. They do not provide a Steam Deck Verified label, frame-time graph, battery test, temperature test or controller-mapping report. For that reason, this guide intentionally avoids claiming measured frame rates, battery hours, thermals or shader-stutter behavior.
Quick Recap
Quick checklist
- Install the normal Steam version.
- Allow the native Linux launch; do not force Proton initially.
- Use 1280×800 output.
- Start with the highest available quality preset.
- Set 60 FPS at 60 Hz.
- If needed, switch together to 40 Hz and 40 FPS.
- Use 30 Hz and 30 FPS only for a battery-first profile.
- Leave TDP and GPU controls at their defaults until a specific problem justifies a change.
- If troubleshooting with Proton, record the version and compare it with the native launch.
