For most new players, the best first base in Palworld 1.0 is the beach where the opening cutscene ends, around coordinates 264, -548. Game8 lists it as a large, normal-climate site with Ore and Paldium Fragment resources and level 1–3 enemies. It is not the best location for every goal: an ore-focused base near the Windswept Island Watchtower, a raid-safe location that requires a flying Pal, and Sunlit Isle for early crude oil each solve a different problem. Coordinates below come from secondary guides and have not been independently verified in-game, so use them as search areas rather than exact guarantees.
The short answer: choose the opening beach first
If you have just started a new world, build your first Palbox near the opening beach before chasing a specialized location. The area around 264, -548 is the most consistently cited beginner choice. Game8 describes it as a large site in a normal climate, with Ore and Paldium Fragments nearby and enemies in the level 1–3 range.

That combination matters more than a dramatic view or a theoretical endgame position. A first base must let you gather basic materials, return safely while your character and Pals are weak, and expand without immediately fighting high-level enemies. The beach does all three reasonably well and does not require a flying Pal to reach.

Start at the beach unless you already know that one of those specialized advantages is more important than a low-risk opening.
Why old starting-location guides can be wrong after 1.0
Palworld left Early Access with its 1.0 release on July 10, 2026 for PC (Steam and Microsoft Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox. The release added the Sunreach floating islands and an explorable World Tree, so the map and the practical value of older base locations changed.
Any guide written before 1.0 should therefore be treated as historical advice, not a current map. A January 2024 Steam community thread, for example, predates the full-release map and should not be used to validate a present-day coordinate. Even a coordinate that looks familiar may now sit in a different strategic context because travel routes, nearby content and available resources have changed.
Reported 1.0.x coverage lists version 1.0.1 on July 15, 2026 for bug fixes, 1.0.2 on July 29 for stability and 1.0.3 on August 12 for balance. A guide also refers to a 1.0.5 update, but that build was not independently verified. Check the version shown by your platform before relying on a location guide, particularly if a patch has changed terrain, enemy placement or resource availability.
Server Clustering was announced in June 2026 but does not appear in the July 10 patch notes cited for 1.0. Do not assume that an announcement means the feature is available in your build.
Some secondary coverage also reports that 1.0 raised the level cap from 65 to 80 and added 72 Pals, bringing the total to 287. Those figures were not confirmed against developer release notes, so they should not be used as a reason to relocate a base. They are useful only as context for how much 1.0 changed the game.
How to judge a first base
A good beginner site is a compromise between resources, safety and travel time. Evaluate a candidate in this order:
- Can you reach it safely now? A location that assumes a flying Pal is not a practical first base if you have not captured or bred one.
- What can you collect without moving the Palbox? Ore and Paldium Fragments reduce early hauling. A site with a large buildable area gives your production setup room to grow.
- What enemy levels are nearby? Level 1–3 threats are materially less punishing for a new character than level 5–15 enemies, especially when you are gathering alone.
- How exposed is the approach? An open beach is convenient but can be more vulnerable to attacks than an elevated or otherwise difficult-to-reach site.
- Does the site solve a problem you actually have? Crude oil is valuable only once your progression needs it; moving early solely for a future resource can slow your first hours.
Do not treat “large” as a complete quality rating. Large buildable space helps with ranches, storage and production, but a smaller site with immediately available ore may be more efficient in the opening phase. Conversely, a resource-rich location can become frustrating if the route is full of enemies you cannot yet handle.
Location comparison
| Area | Reported coordinates | Best use | Known advantages | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Opening beach | 264, -548 | First general-purpose base | Large; normal climate; Ore and Paldium Fragments; level 1–3 enemies | Not specifically optimized for raid avoidance, ore density or crude oil |
| Windswept Island Watchtower | 8, -526 | Early ore base | Recommended by Mobalytics as a place to set up before Ore Mines | Less beginner-friendly if your priority is the lowest enemy levels |
| Southwest of Small Settlement | 8, -528 | Ore farming | Large area; ore-focused recommendation | Reported enemy levels are 5–15 |
| Elevated “unraidable” location | 188, -37 or 191, -39 | Raid-safe base after gaining air mobility | Guides describe it as unraidable or difficult for raids to reach | Requires a flying Pal; sources disagree on the coordinate |
| Sunlit Isle | 405, -483 | Early crude oil | PC Gamer reports six crude-oil nodes | Specialized resource site, not the default beginner recommendation |
The Watchtower and Small Settlement entries are particularly easy to confuse: their reported coordinates differ by only two points and their descriptions come from different guides. Treat both as a general search area, identify the actual terrain and resource nodes in your world, and do not move your Palbox solely because one guide prints one of those numbers.
1. Opening beach: the default first-base choice
What the site offers
The opening beach is the best all-round answer for a new character because its reported enemy range is only level 1–3. Game8 also classifies it as a large site with a normal climate and nearby Ore and Paldium Fragments. Those are the materials most likely to influence your first construction and production decisions, so you spend less time making dangerous collection trips.
Who should use it
Choose the beach if you are playing Palworld for the first time, restarting after a long break, or entering 1.0 without a planned route. It is also the sensible multiplayer default when not every member of the group can travel independently. A low-level, reachable base gives everyone a place to recover and organize supplies before the party splits into specialized expeditions.
For a hosted multiplayer world, Godlike.Host offers Palworld servers through its own game panel, with free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day.
When to leave
The beach is a starting platform, not a permanent obligation. Consider a second base when you need a concentrated ore supply, a raid-resistant position or crude oil. Moving immediately can trade a small efficiency gain for hours of extra travel and repeated deaths. Build enough storage and production at the beach to make the next move deliberate.
Windswept Island Watchtower: an ore-first alternative
Why it is recommended
Mobalytics identifies the area around the Windswept Island Watchtower, approximately 8, -526, as a “great place to set up before Ore Mines.” That makes it attractive to players whose immediate bottleneck is ore rather than a completely safe tutorial-style start.
What to check before committing
Scout the area without dismantling your existing base. Confirm that the ore nodes are close enough for your intended workers and that the buildable ground is practical for a Palbox, storage and production. The guide’s recommendation establishes the area’s ore-oriented role, but it does not establish a universal node count or guarantee that every world presents identical terrain.

Use the Watchtower area when you already understand early combat, can protect workers and want to accelerate ore collection. If your party is still struggling with level 1–3 enemies, the beach is the lower-risk choice even if it produces ore less efficiently.
Southwest of the Small Settlement: large ore farming space
Driffle lists a large location southwest of the Small Settlement at approximately 8, -528, with nearby enemies reported at levels 5–15. The large footprint is useful for a production-heavy base, while the enemy range signals a meaningful step up from the beach.
This spot is best viewed as an ore-farming option for a player who is ready for mid-early-game danger, not as the safest spawn-day destination. Bring enough equipment and capable Pals to clear the immediate area before assigning workers. Because the coordinate is close to the Watchtower figure, use landmarks and the actual resource layout to distinguish the two recommendations rather than relying on the printed number alone.
Rank #3
If the site’s level 5–15 enemies repeatedly interrupt construction, keep the beach as your operational base and use this location as a later mining outpost. The value of a large ore area is lost if you spend more time recovering from attacks than collecting materials.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The elevated raid-safe location: only after you have air mobility
Mobalytics describes a location near 188, -37 or 191, -39 as an unraidable spot. The conflicting coordinates are important: no single exact point is established by the available guides. Both descriptions require a flying Pal, so this is a progression target rather than a sensible first landing place for most players.
Why it can be worth the move
A base that raids cannot easily reach can protect production time and reduce repair interruptions. That advantage becomes more valuable as you place more structures and assign more workers. It is also useful for players who prefer a defensible, separated headquarters rather than an exposed open base.
How to approach it
- Obtain and deploy a flying Pal before planning the relocation.
- Travel to the general coordinate range and inspect both terrain and access routes; do not assume either printed coordinate is exact.
- Confirm that you can land, build and return to the site reliably. A position that is safe but awkward to reach can become a logistical trap.
- Keep the beach or another accessible base active until the elevated location has storage, beds or production capacity sufficient for your routine.
The raid-safe location should be your second or later base for most players. Its defining benefit is safety from raids, not beginner resource density.
Sunlit Isle: six crude-oil nodes for a specialized base
PC Gamer recommends Sunlit Isle at approximately 405, -483 for early crude oil and reports six crude-oil nodes there. That is the clearest resource-specific recommendation in the available coverage.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCrude oil is a reason to establish a dedicated outpost only when your progression has reached the point where oil production matters. Before then, the distance and setup cost can distract from basic survival, ore collection and exploration. Scout the island, check how much buildable ground surrounds the nodes, and decide whether you need a full production base or only a resource-focused operation.
Do not infer that six nodes makes Sunlit Isle the best first base for everyone. It solves an oil problem; it does not replace the beach’s low enemy range or the ore sites’ early mining focus.

Phase 1: establish the beach base
Place your first Palbox near the opening beach’s reported 264, -548 area after checking the immediate ground and resource access. Build the minimum storage and production needed to stabilize your character and workers. Keep the site organized so that you can later turn it into a home base or leave it as a safe fallback.
Phase 2: scout for ore
When ore becomes the limiting material, travel to the Watchtower area around 8, -526 and the southwest-of-Small-Settlement area around 8, -528. Compare actual node placement, enemy pressure and buildable space in your world. The Watchtower guide emphasizes an early pre-Ore-Mines setup; the Small Settlement guide emphasizes a large ore-farming site with level 5–15 enemies.

Phase 3: add a defensive base
After you have a flying Pal, investigate the elevated area around 188, -37 or 191, -39. Because the guides disagree, verify the spot in person and keep your original base until the new location works in practice.
Phase 4: add crude oil capacity
Once crude oil is an active requirement, assess Sunlit Isle around 405, -483 and its reported six nodes. A specialized oil outpost can complement, rather than replace, a safer headquarters and an ore base.
How to verify a coordinate in your own world
- Open the in-game map and travel toward the reported coordinate rather than placing the Palbox immediately.
- Use the named landmark—opening beach, Windswept Island Watchtower, Small Settlement or Sunlit Isle—to confirm that you are in the intended region.
- Inspect the ground for a workable build area and note the actual resource nodes. Coordinates in guides are search references, not proof that a node is directly on the number.
- Check enemy levels by observing the local spawn area before starting construction.
- Test the route back to your existing base or fast-travel network, including the return trip while carrying materials.
- Only then decide whether the location deserves a permanent Palbox. Keep a fallback base until the new one is stocked and functioning.
This verification step is especially important for the elevated location, where published coordinates differ, and for the two ore recommendations, whose printed coordinates are nearly identical.
Common mistakes and fixes
Following a pre-1.0 map
Symptom: a landmark or route in an old guide does not match your world. Fix: prioritize 1.0-era descriptions, then confirm the terrain yourself. Sunreach and the explorable World Tree changed the map enough that Early Access advice may be obsolete.

Choosing a specialized site too early
Symptom: you relocate for oil or ore but lack the equipment, workers or combat strength to operate there. Fix: establish the beach first, then add a specialized outpost when the resource is an actual bottleneck.
Assuming a coordinate is exact
Symptom: you arrive at the number and cannot find the described base area. Fix: search the surrounding landmark, inspect the terrain and account for the guide conflict at 188, -37 versus 191, -39.
Ignoring enemy levels
Symptom: workers stop operating because the base is constantly attacked. Fix: compare the beach’s reported level 1–3 enemies with the Small Settlement ore site’s reported level 5–15 range before moving.
Building permanently before testing logistics
Symptom: the base has resources but is too difficult to reach or supply. Fix: scout first, retain the original base, and relocate only after a trial run confirms travel and construction are practical.
Final recommendation by player type
| Your situation | Best starting choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| New player or fresh world | Opening beach, 264, -548 | Lowest reported enemy range, normal climate, large area and basic resources |
| Ore is your immediate bottleneck | Windswept Island Watchtower, about 8, -526 | Guide specifically recommends it before Ore Mines |
| You can handle stronger early enemies | Southwest of Small Settlement, about 8, -528 | Large ore-farming area, but reported enemies are level 5–15 |
| You already have a flying Pal | Elevated area near 188, -37 or 191, -39 | Reported raid-safe position; verify the disputed coordinate |
| You need crude oil | Sunlit Isle, about 405, -483 | Six crude-oil nodes reported by PC Gamer |
For the broadest definition of “best starting location,” use the opening beach. Move toward the Watchtower or Small Settlement when ore dictates the decision, reserve the elevated site for post-flight raid safety, and use Sunlit Isle when crude oil—not basic survival—is the resource shaping your base plan.
