For homebrew you plan to carbonate in the container, choose a vessel whose manufacturer explicitly documents pressure suitability and follow that maker’s instructions. A tight-seeming lid or a claim that a vessel accepts carbonated drinks is not, by itself, a pressure rating for bottle conditioning.

How to choose a growler for serving homebrew
Pick a capacity that suits the occasion
The cited examples range from Haers’ 650 ml and 1200 ml versions to Webber Elite’s 64-ounce growler. Choose according to how much beer you expect to transport or serve at once; these product sizes are examples, not a universal set of growler standards.
Check the lid and seal
Haers lists a bounce lid, while Webber Elite lists a flip top with a removable, replaceable silicone seal. A removable seal can be taken out for cleaning, but check the maker’s care instructions and whether replacement seals are available before relying on that feature.

Consider insulation and steel specifications
Haers and Webber Elite both describe double-wall growlers, and Haers specifies different steel grades for the interior and exterior. Those details are manufacturer specifications, not independent findings about durability or temperature performance. Compare the exact model’s construction rather than assuming every steel growler is insulated or uses the same grade throughout.

Look for cleaning access
The Brewers Association’s 2019 Draught Beer Quality Manual says stainless-steel growlers are typically large-mouth, making cleanliness easier to view. Check the opening and whether the lid components can be cleaned as the manufacturer directs; the cited product pages do not provide comparable opening dimensions or cleaning procedures.

Steel, glass, or PET for homebrew?
Choose by intended use, not by material alone. A growler is for transporting or serving beer; homebrew bottling is a separate use. A homebrew retailer lists conventional brown glass and PET bottles in homebrew formats, but that listing does not establish a universal best bottle or document the pressure rating of a particular product. Light exposure is another consideration. The Brewers Association manual says brown glass helps lessen light that can potentially skunk or light-strike beer, and notes that light-struck beer is alleviated with stainless-steel growlers. Keep beer protected from light regardless of container, and follow the vessel maker’s handling and cleaning guidance.
