For a US resident who mainly holds USDC, Coinbase Card is the clearest fit in the documented options: it is available in every US state except Hawaii, works anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, and converts crypto automatically at purchase. Crypto.com suits people who want CRO rewards and accept prepaid-card funding and tier conditions. European users who value self-custody should examine Gnosis Pay or MetaMask Card, while Wirex is the broadest multi-currency option in the comparison. Eligibility, supported networks, spreads, rewards and tax rules vary, so the right choice starts with your country and the exact asset you hold.
What a stablecoin payment card actually does
A stablecoin payment card lets you pay a merchant through a familiar card network while the funding source is a digital-asset balance. At checkout, the issuer or wallet converts the selected stablecoin into the merchant’s settlement currency. The merchant normally receives ordinary fiat through Visa or Mastercard; it does not need to accept USDC, GNO or another token directly.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
That conversion can happen in different places. A custodial card may debit an account held by the issuer and perform the conversion centrally. A self-custodial card can authorize a transaction from a wallet or smart account that remains under your control until the purchase. A prepaid product may require you to convert crypto first and load a fiat balance before spending. Those models have different fees, risks and recovery procedures.
“Stablecoin” describes the token’s intended price reference, not a guarantee that every conversion will be fee-free or that the token will always trade exactly at one dollar. Your practical cost can include a spread, foreign-exchange markup, ATM fee, top-up fee, subscription fee or a network charge. Rewards may also be paid in a volatile token rather than in a stable currency.

Coinbase Card: the simplest USDC-led choice for many US users
How spending works
Coinbase says the card is issued by Pathward and can be used anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. For purchases and ATM withdrawals, cryptocurrency is automatically converted to US dollars. That removes the separate step of selling USDC before each payment, although an automatic conversion does not mean the quoted rate has no spread or that every card operation is free.
Coinbase’s US help documentation states that Coinbase Card is available in all US states except Hawaii. Rewards are optional and, according to that documentation, available only to US card users; rates are variable. Before relying on a reward, open the current offer in the app and check its asset, qualifying transactions, caps and expiration conditions.
What the UK documentation adds
Coinbase’s UK product page says there are no fees for spending Pound Sterling and that Coinbase does not charge trading fees for spending crypto, including USDC. It also describes worldwide Visa acceptance and automatic conversion to pounds for purchases and ATM withdrawals. Those statements apply to the UK product terms and should not be generalized to other countries or currencies.
The same UK page warns that spending crypto is a taxable transaction that may require reporting gains and losses. If you acquired USDC at a different sterling value from the value at the time of a purchase, keep records even when the card shows no Coinbase trading fee.
Best fit and checks before applying
- Choose it when you are in an eligible US state or the UK and want a conventional Visa card rather than a wallet-management project.
- Confirm which balance is spent first, whether your preferred USDC network is supported, and how the app displays the conversion rate.
- Review current daily and monthly purchase or ATM limits, because the public product statements do not establish one universal limit.
- Check the live reward offer, spread disclosure and any out-of-network ATM charge immediately before use.
Crypto.com Visa Card: a prepaid card built around CRO rewards
Why it is different
Crypto.com explicitly describes its card as a prepaid card. You top it up before spending; it is not a direct debit card linked to a bank account. A top-up can come from the Crypto Wallet, Cash Account or another credit/debit card, subject to the applicable funding rules.
Crypto.com also states that cardholders cannot load cryptocurrency directly onto the prepaid Visa card. Instead, cryptocurrency is converted to the relevant market currency before the fiat balance is loaded. That extra conversion step is important when comparing the card with products that convert at the moment of purchase.

Rewards, fees and tier limits
Eligible spending rewards are paid in CRO to the Crypto Wallet. CRO is a market-priced token, so a percentage shown in the benefits schedule is not the same as a guaranteed cash return. Its value can rise or fall after it is credited, and selling or converting it can create another fee or tax event.

ATM withdrawal charges, interbank exchange rates, funding fees and other costs can depend on your jurisdiction and card tier. Crypto.com’s card page shows examples of free ATM-withdrawal allowances of $800 per month and $400 per month for the displayed tiers; those figures are examples tied to those tiers, not a universal allowance. Benefits and rewards can also change at Crypto.com’s discretion, and card availability is jurisdiction-limited.
Who should consider it
- It is most appropriate if you already use the Crypto.com ecosystem and understand that rewards arrive in CRO rather than a stable currency.
- It can be inconvenient if you want to spend USDC directly without a preliminary conversion and top-up.
- Before choosing a tier, calculate your expected ATM use, foreign-currency spending and monthly top-up volume against the tier’s allowance and fees.
Gnosis Pay: European spending with a self-custody design
MetaMask’s 2026 card comparison lists Gnosis Pay as a self-custodial Visa card that spends from a Safe smart account on Gnosis Chain. In that model, the account is an on-chain wallet structure rather than a conventional balance held solely by the card issuer. You retain wallet responsibilities: protecting recovery material, approving transactions and ensuring the account has the right asset on the right network.
The same comparison lists availability in Europe, the UK, Iceland and Norway and shows rewards of 1–5% in GNO. GNO is volatile, so the displayed percentage should be treated as a token-denominated reward rate, not as a fixed percentage return in euros or pounds. The comparison does not list Gnosis Pay as a US option.
Checks that matter with a self-custodial card
- Verify that your country is currently supported and that identity verification is available to you.
- Confirm the Safe account address and Gnosis Chain network before transferring funds; sending an asset on an unsupported chain can make recovery difficult or impossible.
- Read how the card handles gas, failed authorizations, refunds and chargebacks, because these can differ from a bank debit card.
- Decide how you will back up and recover the wallet before depositing spending money.
MetaMask Card: wallet-linked spending and mUSD cashback
MetaMask describes its card as combining crypto with the ease of cash. The card spends balances already in your MetaMask wallet, and the funds remain under your control until a purchase is made. Payments run over Mastercard. MetaMask’s 2026 comparison lists 1% cashback in mUSD and no annual fee.
This is the clearest option in the comparison for someone who already manages assets in MetaMask and prioritizes self-custody over a fully custodial account. It is not automatically the cheapest: the wallet asset, conversion route, network, foreign exchange and any service-specific charges still determine the effective cost of a purchase.

Confirm support before moving funds
MetaMask’s comparison does not establish one permanent list of countries, chains or eligible assets for every version of the card. Check the application flow and current terms for your residence, the chain holding your funds, the stablecoin contract you use and the availability of a physical card versus a virtual card. Do not assume that a token with the same ticker on another network will be recognized.
Wirex: a multi-currency alternative for travel and mixed balances
The comparison lists Wirex as a Visa or Mastercard debit/prepaid card supporting more than 50 fiat and digital currencies. That breadth can be useful when your spending is split among several currencies or when you travel frequently. It also creates more choices to audit: the funding currency, conversion path and foreign-exchange rate can change the cost from one purchase to the next.
Wirex’s Standard plan is listed with no annual fee, while selected plans show 0.5–16% WXT cashback. The range is plan-dependent, and WXT is a volatile token rather than a fixed cash rebate. Higher-plan and foreign-exchange fees vary, so compare the plan cost with your actual monthly spend instead of selecting a tier solely for its headline percentage.

Because “selected” does not mean every country in the region, check eligibility by residence before transferring funds or ordering a card.
How to choose the right card
1. Start with country and card type
A card that cannot be issued in your country is not a practical shortlist candidate. Check residence, identity-document requirements, supported delivery locations and whether the product is virtual, physical or both. Coinbase’s documented US exception is Hawaii; Gnosis Pay and Wirex have region-specific availability; MetaMask and Crypto.com require current jurisdiction checks.
2. Match the exact stablecoin and network
Write down the asset and network you actually hold, for example, USDC on a particular chain. Then compare it with the card’s supported assets and funding instructions. “USDC supported” without a network qualification is not enough: a deposit sent over another chain may not credit, and a card may convert one balance while leaving another untouched.

3. Compare the complete cost, not just a fee headline
| Cost item | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Conversion spread | What rate is used when the stablecoin becomes dollars, pounds or euros, and how far is it from the observable market rate? |
| Foreign exchange | Is there a markup when the merchant currency differs from your card balance or account currency? |
| ATM withdrawals | What is the free allowance, and what does the issuer charge after it? Does the ATM operator add its own fee? |
| Top-ups and funding | Are card-funded top-ups, bank transfers or crypto conversions charged differently? |
| Plan or subscription | Does a higher reward tier require a monthly fee, a balance commitment or another condition? |
| Network and wallet costs | For self-custody products, are gas, signing or failed-transaction costs possible? |
For a simple estimate, add every recurring fee to the expected monthly conversion and ATM cost, then subtract only rewards you can realistically use. A 2% token reward is not necessarily better than a 0.5% stable-value benefit if the token falls, the reward is capped or the qualifying tier costs more than it returns.

Custodial products generally simplify password recovery and card support but require trust in the issuer and its account controls. Self-custodial products keep assets in your wallet until a payment, but you are responsible for backups, approvals, network selection and key security. Neither model removes the need to understand conversion and spending records.
5. Value rewards in the asset you receive
Coinbase describes rewards as optional and variable for US users. Crypto.com pays eligible rewards in CRO. Gnosis Pay’s comparison shows 1–5% in GNO, and Wirex shows 0.5–16% WXT on selected plans. MetaMask’s comparison shows 1% in mUSD. Compare these as different assets with different volatility, liquidity and tax treatment; do not place them in one “cashback” column without that qualification.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Application and setup checklist
- Confirm eligibility. Enter your legal residence in the issuer’s current application flow and read any regional exclusions.
- Complete verification. Use the name and address that match your identity documents and understand which entity issues the card.
- Check the funding route. Identify whether the card spends from a custodial balance, a prepaid fiat balance or a self-custodial wallet.
- Verify the asset and chain. Copy the receiving address only after confirming the network and token contract shown by the card or wallet.
- Read limits and fees. Record purchase, ATM, top-up, FX, conversion and reward caps before adding a large balance.
- Start with a small test. Make a low-value purchase and inspect the rate, deducted asset, reward credit and transaction record.
- Secure the account. Enable strong authentication, device protection and recovery methods; for self-custody, store the recovery backup offline and never share it.
- Keep records. Save transaction date, asset amount, fiat value, fees and reward entries for budgeting and tax reporting.
Tax and reporting considerations
Tax treatment is local and depends on whether spending is treated as a disposal, how the asset was acquired and how rewards are classified. Coinbase explicitly warns UK users that spending crypto can be taxable and may require reporting gains and losses. That warning should not be transplanted unchanged to the US, EU or any other jurisdiction.
Maintain a record for every conversion: the token quantity spent, its fiat value at the time, acquisition cost, fees, card currency and any reward received. Ask a qualified local tax professional how stablecoin payments and token rewards are treated where you live. A card statement alone may not contain the cost-basis information you need.
Common failure modes and fixes
The card is unavailable in your country
Do not bypass a regional restriction with a borrowed address or virtual private network. Use only products that explicitly accept your residence, or wait until the issuer publishes eligibility for your market.

- TECHNOLOGY - Uses sophisticated electromagnetic jamming technology frequently used in military applications.
- CONVENIENCE - You no longer need to wrap your credit card in foil. Just keep VAULTCARD together with your cards in your wallet to ensure RFID security.
- NO BATTERY - VAULTCARD lasts forever. The card has an extremely efficient energy harnessing technology which allows it to be powered by energy from RFID scanner.
- AUTO-ADJUST POWER - VAULTCARD automatically adjust power of its jamming signal to ensure your RFID enabled cards, passport etc remain protected even against very powerful RFID skimming systems.
The transfer does not appear
Check the transaction hash, token contract and network first. A correct ticker on the wrong chain is a common cause. Contact the issuer or wallet support with the hash; do not send a second deposit until the first is resolved.
The conversion costs more than expected
Compare the quoted rate with the issuer’s spread disclosure and check whether a foreign-currency purchase, weekend pricing, ATM fee or top-up fee was added. A “no trading fee” statement does not establish that the conversion spread is zero.
A reward did not arrive
Review the qualifying merchant category, tier, monthly cap, settlement time and reward asset. CRO, GNO and WXT rewards can also change in market value after crediting; mUSD is a different type of reward from those volatile tokens.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA payment is declined
Check available balance after pending authorizations, card and merchant-category restrictions, offline or online-use settings and whether the card is prepaid and fully loaded. For a self-custodial card, verify that the wallet has the required asset and network access.
Which card is best for each reader?
- US resident, mainly holding USDC: Start with Coinbase Card, subject to the Hawaii exclusion and the current in-app terms.
- UK resident wanting straightforward Visa spending: Coinbase’s UK documentation is the most explicit about USDC, sterling spending and automatic conversion, but account for the stated tax issue.
- European user who insists on self-custody: Compare Gnosis Pay and MetaMask Card, then choose based on supported country, chain, asset and wallet responsibilities.
- User seeking CRO ecosystem rewards: Consider Crypto.com only after pricing the prepaid top-up process, tier requirements and CRO volatility.
- Frequent traveler with many currencies: Wirex is the broadest documented multi-currency option, but plan, FX and country terms need careful checking.
- Anyone who needs predictable cash value: Prefer a product whose costs and reward are clear in your spending currency; volatile-token rewards can erase an apparent percentage advantage.
Bottom line
For everyday USDC spending, Coinbase Card is the strongest documented starting point for eligible US and UK users because the conversion and Visa acceptance are clearly described. Crypto.com is a prepaid, CRO-reward product rather than a direct crypto debit card. Gnosis Pay and MetaMask Card are the self-custody paths for eligible European users, with wallet security and network selection becoming your responsibility. Wirex is useful when breadth across fiat and digital currencies matters more than a single stablecoin workflow. Recheck eligibility, supported networks, spreads, limits, rewards and local tax treatment immediately before applying: these card programs change more often than ordinary bank debit cards.
