For most shoppers choosing between Sony’s new 2026 True RGB TVs, the BRAVIA 7 II is the better starting point. Tom’s Guide recommends it to most buyers in its direct comparison with the flagship BRAVIA 9 II, citing its lower price and broader size range. Choose the BRAVIA 9 II instead if you want Sony’s premium True RGB model and its brighter, more finely tuned performance—and are comfortable paying more. That recommendation applies to these two models, not every Sony TV or every market.

Which 2026 Sony BRAVIA is right for you?

Choose the BRAVIA 7 II for the more flexible recommendation

The 7 II makes more sense for buyers who want one of Sony’s new True RGB sets without paying for the flagship. Its listed range starts at 50 inches, unlike the 9 II, which starts at 65 inches. That makes it the only one of this pair to consider if you specifically want a screen smaller than 65 inches. It also reaches 98 inches, so choosing the less expensive model does not mean giving up a very large-screen option.

Tom’s Guide calls the 7 II the Sony TV it recommended most in its comparison and says it is anything but a slouch. That is the reviewer’s judgment about these two sets—not proof that the 7 II is the best choice for every room, price or Sony lineup.

Choose the BRAVIA 9 II for the flagship experience

The 9 II is Sony’s flagship in its 2026 True RGB announcement. Tom’s Guide says it is brighter and its backlight is more capable, while describing the picture as more finely tuned. Those are review observations, not a claim that every viewer will see enough improvement to justify the price difference. If that premium performance is your priority, the 9 II is the clear option in this comparison.

At the top end, the 9 II is listed in a 115-inch size; the 7 II tops out at 98 inches in the comparison. Such large screens need careful room and installation planning, and local availability can differ.

Look beyond these two if you want OLED

BRAVIA 7 II and 9 II are the new RGB Mini LED models discussed here, not Sony’s entire 2026 television range. Sony’s US television listing also includes the BRAVIA 6 OLED and BRAVIA 3 II. If OLED is your priority, compare the BRAVIA 6 OLED rather than treating an RGB Mini LED recommendation as a universal winner.

Model years and names vary by region. Sony US identifies the BRAVIA 8 II as a 2025 model, while Sony Japan’s comparison describes it as QD-OLED and identifies the 9 II and 7 II as RGB Mini LED. Confirm the exact model and year in your local market before comparing listings; the 8 II should not be assumed to be a 2026 US release.

How much do the BRAVIA 7 II and 9 II cost?

Prices depend on size, market and timing. Sony’s US television listing, accessed October 4, 2026, showed the 65-inch BRAVIA 7 II at $1,799.99, discounted from $2,599.99, and the 65-inch BRAVIA 9 II at $3,599.99. These are displayed prices at that time, not guaranteed future prices or stable retail prices. Check Sony’s US television listing for current pricing and availability.

For launch-price context, Sony’s May 27, 2026 US announcement listed the BRAVIA 9 II at $3,599.99 (65 inches), $4,599.99 (75 inches), $6,499.99 (85 inches) and $30,999.99 (115 inches). Sony said 115-inch availability was expected that fall. For the BRAVIA 7 II, the same announcement listed $3,099.99 (75 inches), $3,999.99 (85 inches) and $8,999.99 (98 inches), with 98-inch availability expected in summer. These are historical launch prices and announced timing, not current offers. Sony’s launch announcement provides the original US figures.

TechRadar reported a July 2026 release for the BRAVIA 7 II and listed launch prices of $2,099 (55 inches), $2,599 (65 inches), $3,099 (75 inches) and $3,999 (85 inches). Those figures reflect its reported launch pricing, differ from later displayed prices, and should not be treated as current prices in every market. See TechRadar’s BRAVIA 7 II review.

What the two TVs have in common—and what differs

Tom’s Guide lists both models with 4K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG, Google TV, XR Processor 4K, ATSC 3.0, and two HDMI 2.1 plus two HDMI 2.0 ports. That shared feature set means the decision is less about those headline specifications and more about size, price and the flagship’s reviewed picture-performance advantages.

TechRadar’s BRAVIA 7 II review also notes XR Clear Image, XR Motion Clarity and XR Contrast Booster, as well as Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced support. The reviewer says the TV does not support HDR10+. Calling the 7 II more affordable than the 9 II does not make it a budget television; it remains a premium-priced model.

Make the choice based on your room and priorities

  1. Set your screen-size limit. If you need less than 65 inches, the BRAVIA 7 II is the only option in this pair listed below that size. For 98 or 115 inches, compare local stock, pricing and the room’s dimensions before committing.
  2. Decide whether the flagship premium matters to you. The 9 II’s reviewed advantages are greater brightness and a more capable backlight. If those are worth paying more for in your viewing conditions, choose it; otherwise, the 7 II is the broader recommendation from the direct comparison.
  3. Confirm the model year and technology in your region. Sony’s US catalog and Japanese comparison use different lineups and naming contexts. Check the country-specific listing rather than assuming a model has the same status everywhere.
  4. Compare the live price for the exact size. A launch price, a dated sale price and today’s local offer are different things. Match size for size and confirm availability before buying.
  5. If you prefer OLED, compare Sony’s OLED model separately. The BRAVIA 6 OLED is listed in Sony’s US 2026 range; its display technology differs from the RGB Mini LED pair, so choose according to your technology preference rather than carrying over a recommendation meant for the two True RGB sets.
