Choose Sonic Superstars for another classic-style 2D adventure
Sonic Superstars is the most direct style match if you want another side-on Sonic game. SEGA describes it as a new high-speed action game combining the classic 2D side-scrolling feel with crisp 3D graphics. That establishes the format, but does not guarantee its level design or overall feel will suit every fan.
SEGA announced its release for October 17, 2023, on PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. See SEGA’s release announcement.

Choose Sonic Frontiers for 3D exploration
Sonic Frontiers moves away from the compact, side-scrolling format toward an action-adventure across a vast archipelago. SEGA calls it a “boundless action-adventure game.” Its two control styles offer different approaches: Action Style is described as accessible, while High Speed Style retains traditional high-speed controls. The choice is about the feel you want, not a stated better-or-worse option.
SEGA announced the game for November 8, 2022, on PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. Read SEGA’s release announcement.

Choose SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS for two campaigns
This package pairs Sonic Generations, with stages played as Classic and Modern Sonic, and a new Shadow story campaign. It suits players who want both Sonic and Shadow or prefer a package with more than one campaign. The official material cited here does not establish that you need to play the older Sonic Generations release first.
SEGA announced a release on October 25, 2024, for PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Check SEGA’s launch announcement. SEGA Sammy Holdings reported that worldwide sales surpassed two million units on January 24, 2025. That is a sales milestone, not a measure of quality or proof that it is the right choice for every player. Read the company’s announcement.

Check Sonic Origins Plus before buying more classic Sonic
If you have only played the base Sonic Origins content, check your edition before choosing another purchase. Sonic Origins Plus includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, with a Plus expansion adding 12 Game Gear titles. Amy is playable in the four main games, and Knuckles is playable in Sonic CD.
The premium physical edition is described as including a 20-page artbook and reversible cover. If you already own Sonic Origins, compare the expansion pack with the bundle rather than paying again for content you have. SEGA’s page lists PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Epic; because edition and regional availability can change, verify the current listing before purchase. See SEGA’s Sonic Origins Plus information.
