The best solo escape loadout in ARC Raiders is built to disengage, not dominate. Start with a movement-friendly shield, a quiet and controllable primary, a close-range panic weapon, reliable healing, and one concealment or movement tool. That combination gives you four things a solo Raider needs: time to avoid a fight, a way to survive a surprise push, a method for breaking line of sight, and enough recovery capacity to reach extraction.
Photoelectric Cloak, Tactical Mk.3 Smoke and Powered Descender all fit that plan, but their energy costs, compatibility and availability have changed in official updates. Treat the builds below as role-based templates rather than permanent recipes or guaranteed win rates.

Why solo escape loadouts are different
ARC Raiders is a multiplayer extraction adventure in which Raiders scavenge a lethal surface while dealing with ARC machines and other Raiders. That makes a solo run a PvEvP problem: you are managing sound, sightlines, machine aggro, hostile players, inventory value and the extraction window at the same time.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe community Getting Started guide describes the basic loadout as one augment, one shield, two weapon slots and four quick-use slots. Those limits make role coverage more important than carrying the highest-damage items available. A weapon that wins a duel but leaves you slow, loud or unable to heal can be a worse solo choice than a less glamorous item that lets you leave unseen.

The solo escape loadout blueprint
| Slot or role | What to carry | How it helps an escape |
|---|---|---|
| Augment | Utility- or concealment-oriented option that is legal in the current patch | Defines how you create distance, hide a rotation or survive the final approach. Tactical Mk.3 Smoke is a documented current option. |
| Shield | Light or otherwise movement-friendly shield | Preserves sprinting and repositioning when a squad has line of sight. Confirm the current balance before committing to a specific model. |
| Primary | Quiet, controllable weapon | Handles a small ARC threat or creates a short opening without forcing a prolonged firefight. |
| Secondary | Fast close-range panic weapon | Gives you an answer when a hostile Raider enters a building, rounds a corner or catches you during an extraction approach. |
| Quick-use slots | Healing plus one concealment or movement tool; keep the remaining slots flexible | Healing lets you rotate after damage, while cloak, smoke or a descender can create the gap needed to break contact. |
Think of every slot as answering a different question: Can I avoid being noticed? Can I survive the first burst? Can I break the enemy’s view? Can I recover before the next angle? If two items solve the same problem while another problem is uncovered, the kit is unbalanced.
Build each slot for survival
Choose mobility before armor weight
A light or movement-friendly shield is the default starting point because sprint speed and rapid repositioning decide whether a squad can keep a visual track on you. The choice is not an argument for ignoring protection. It is a recognition that a solo player rarely wants to stand in the open and trade damage with several opponents.
Use the heaviest option only when the map, objective or current balance gives you a specific reason to accept its movement burden. If you cannot cross a doorway, stairwell or piece of cover before the enemy’s next burst, additional durability may not save the run. Check the current inventory and balance values rather than relying on an old build screenshot.
Use a quiet primary for short engagements
Your primary should let you solve a limited problem: remove or discourage a small ARC threat, punish an exposed player, or force a squad to respect a corner while you leave. Controllability matters because missed shots create noise without buying space.
Do not select the primary solely by its maximum damage or rarity. The cited weapons guidance emphasizes that positioning and strategy matter more than simply bringing the strongest gun. A weapon you can fire accurately while moving is usually more useful to a solo escape plan than one that encourages a stationary duel.
Reserve a close-range panic weapon
The second weapon exists for the moment your avoidance plan fails at close distance. Keep it ready for a building entry, a tight stairwell, a sudden extraction push or an opponent who appears while you are healing.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe purpose is not to clear an entire squad. Fire only long enough to force hesitation, secure a doorway or create the first step of your retreat. Once you have that space, return to movement and cover instead of turning a successful escape window into a prolonged fight.
Spend quick-use capacity on recovery and distance
Healing is not optional in a solo kit. A player who survives an exchange at low health may still lose the next angle because there is no time to recover. Put healing where it can be reached without opening extra menus during an approach or retreat.
Use at least one remaining slot for concealment or movement. Photoelectric Cloak, Tactical Mk.3 Smoke and Powered Descender represent different ways to break pursuit; the right choice depends on the current patch and the terrain around your extraction. Keep one emergency tool unused until the route becomes dangerous. Routine travel is not the place to spend the item that can save the final 30 seconds.
Three practical solo archetypes
Quiet scavenger
The quiet scavenger is the safest default for players who want moderate loot without advertising every rotation. Pair a light shield with a looting-focused or concealment-friendly augment, a controllable primary, a simple close-range backup, healing and Photoelectric Cloak when the current patch supports the combination.
This pattern comes from a community build guide, so treat it as a tested community approach rather than an official best build. Its strength is avoidance: you bypass fights, keep your audio profile low and leave before your inventory creates a reason to take unnecessary risks.

- Best for: cautious looting, unfamiliar routes and players who disengage early.
- Weakness: limited margin if a squad forces a close fight before the cloak or a route is available.
- How to play it: move from cover to cover, stop firing once a gap opens, and save the concealment tool for the extraction leg.
Smoke-and-rotate
Smoke-and-rotate uses Tactical Mk.3 Smoke to cross a sightline or change the geometry of a fight. Smoke is most valuable when it separates you from the enemy’s next decision: crossing a courtyard, changing floors, passing a doorway or turning toward a fallback route.
Carry a primary that remains controllable while moving, healing and a reserve route. A smoke cloud is not a destination; it is a timer. Enter it with a direction already chosen, then keep moving until you reach hard cover or a new floor. Throwing smoke and standing in the same place lets opponents wait out the concealment.
- Best for: open approaches, broken sightlines and squads that have already seen you.
- Weakness: poor value when thrown without a route or when it merely hides a stationary player.
- How to play it: deploy across the enemy’s view, cross at an angle, change elevation or direction, and do not begin the final extraction interaction until you have checked the next approach.
Short-fight defender
The short-fight defender carries a reliable primary for ARC and a close-range secondary for a sudden Raider push, while keeping the overall kit inexpensive enough that losing it does not force a reckless re-entry. This is the compromise for players who expect contact but still want an exit plan.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use cover to make every shot meaningful. You are defending a route, not trying to win a squad wipe. Once the opponent pauses, reloads or loses your position, rotate. High-end gear does not replace positioning and strategy, and expensive equipment can make a solo player stay in a bad fight simply because they do not want to lose it.
- Best for: ARC-heavy areas, contested buildings and players who need a dependable close-range answer.
- Weakness: more noise and a greater temptation to overcommit than the quiet scavenger setup.
- How to play it: take one short exchange, break line of sight, heal, then use a different route rather than repeating the same peek.
How to escape a hostile squad step by step
1. Choose the route before you loot deeply
Identify a primary extraction and a fallback before your inventory becomes valuable. A Raider Hatch can serve as the fallback when you have the required access and the map makes it practical. You do not need a perfect route; you need two plausible ways out and an idea of which one leaves fewer exposed crossings.
Note the doors, stairs, hard cover and elevation changes that connect your current position to each route. A concealment tool is far stronger when you already know where it will take you.
2. Avoid announcing the fight
Do not fire merely because a squad is nearby. Listen for movement, use cover and let the group pass when your objective does not require contact. A solo player who remains unseen keeps every route available; a solo player who fires gives the squad information about location, direction and likely intent.
Keep ARC behavior in mind as well. Unnecessary shots can turn a player encounter into a three-way problem by attracting machines or alerting another Raider to the area.
3. If contact starts, shorten it
Take only the shots needed to create space. Use the first piece of cover, close a door, change floors or move behind a solid obstacle. The solo stealth guide’s central principle is to avoid being present when the shooting starts; once the shooting has started, the practical version is to leave the angle before the squad can surround it.
Do not peek the same opening repeatedly. A squad can hold a doorway while one player swings wide, and your second peek usually gives them more information than it gives you.
4. Relocate after a loud exchange
A loud fight can draw ARC and other Raiders. After you have created a gap, move away from the original engagement before beginning the final extraction approach. This is why a quiet primary and an alternate route matter even when you believe the first opponent has retreated.

5. Hold the last-resort tool
Do not spend cloak, smoke or movement equipment on routine travel if a hostile squad may still be between you and extraction. Save the tool for the point at which it will change the outcome: crossing the last open lane, escaping a tracked position, reaching the hatch or surviving the extraction interaction.
The exception is a guaranteed loss of cover. If remaining where you are means certain damage or entrapment, use the tool early and commit to the route it creates. An unused escape item in a lost fight has no value.
6. Treat a downed state as a final window, not a plan
The community Getting Started guide reports roughly a minute of crawling after collapse and says a player may still activate extraction or use a Raider Hatch. That timing is community-reported and version-sensitive, not a guaranteed official rule.

If you are downed near an available exit, attempt the interaction immediately rather than waiting for a revive that may never come. If the route is not reachable, communicate your position through movement only as necessary and avoid assuming the same crawl window will exist after a future update.
Comparing the three approaches
| Archetype | Noise profile | Movement burden | Time to break line of sight | Surprise close-fight ability | Replacement pressure | Patch stability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quiet scavenger | Lowest when played correctly | Low with a light shield | Depends on cloak availability and terrain | Moderate; relies on the panic weapon | Can be kept moderate | Photoelectric Cloak behavior has changed, so verify the current patch |
| Smoke-and-rotate | Moderate; smoke creates a visible event but can end the fight quickly | Low to moderate | Fast when smoke crosses a real sightline | Moderate | Depends on smoke and movement-item availability | Tactical Mk.3 Smoke is documented, but item behavior and slot rules can change |
| Short-fight defender | Highest if the player keeps trading | Depends on shield choice and weapon handling | Slow unless the player disengages after the first exchange | Highest of the three | Should be deliberately inexpensive enough to replace | Weapon and shield balance can change; do not treat rarity as permanent power |
The table is a decision aid, not a ranking. Choose the quiet scavenger when avoiding contact is your priority, smoke-and-rotate when sightlines are the main problem, and short-fight defender when you need a dependable answer to close pressure.
Photoelectric Cloak, Smoke and Powered Descender: patch-aware use
Photoelectric Cloak
Photoelectric Cloak is attractive for a solo player because concealment can remove the squad’s ability to maintain visual contact. Its cost is that the cloak’s power consumption has changed materially across official updates.
Riven Tides notes recorded power use increasing from 2.5 per second to 10 per second. Later official patch 1.29 notes recorded a reduction from 10 per second to 5 per second. Those figures are patch-specific; they do not establish a universal cloak duration. Before deploying, check the current item description and your available power rather than planning around an old video or guide.

Official notes document Tactical Mk.3 Smoke as new or current equipment. Its escape value comes from sightline control, not from making you invulnerable. Use it to cross, turn or change floors, and pair it with a destination that offers hard cover. Smoke thrown into an enclosed space without an exit can conceal the enemy as effectively as it conceals you.
Powered Descender
Powered Descender is another documented movement option. Its value depends on whether the current map position offers a usable vertical route and whether the descent takes you closer to safety rather than into an unscouted lower area. Treat it as a route-changing tool: identify the landing area before activating it, and keep a close-range weapon ready for the arrival.
Compatibility and patch checks
Official patch 1.29 also changed Combat Mk.3 (Flanking) to accept Medium Shields. That is a reminder that augment and shield compatibility can change independently of an item’s name. Confirm the current slot, power cost and compatibility in the live inventory screen before copying a build from an earlier patch.
Managing cost and replacement risk
No fixed item prices or replacement totals are established for these templates, and live-service balance can change them. Instead of assigning a made-up budget, use a replacement rule: the kit should be cheap enough that losing it does not make you re-enter a dangerous area out of frustration or obligation.
Recommended Free Tools
- Keep the primary weapon in a tier you can replace from ordinary successful runs.
- Do not pair a costly shield, rare weapon and every available escape tool unless the objective justifies the risk.
- Spend expensive utility only when it preserves valuable loot or prevents a likely collapse.
- Maintain a simpler fallback kit so a failed run does not end your next attempt.
The short-fight defender is especially vulnerable to escalation: once a player has invested heavily in the loadout, they may continue peeking simply to justify the cost. A replacement-minded kit makes early disengagement psychologically easier.

Solo matchmaking and what it changes
Solo matchmaking is separately tracked from Duo and Trio matchmaking in the cited 1.36 update. That distinction matters when interpreting advice from older videos or mixed-party discussions: a tactic that assumes a teammate can revive, distract or carry loot is not a solo tactic.
Separate tracking does not guarantee identical queue populations, map conditions or future matchmaking rules. Treat the 1.36 reference as a versioned fact and check current in-game information if the matchmaking interface changes.
Common failure modes and fixes
Fighting because a squad is close
Symptom: You fire at a group that has not seen you, then spend the rest of the run retreating.
Fix: Let proximity remain harmless. Move only when the squad’s path would intersect yours, and leave through a route that does not expose your position.
Using the escape tool for convenience
Symptom: Cloak, smoke or the descender is gone before the extraction approach.
Fix: Reserve one emergency tool for the final danger. If you must spend it early, immediately identify a second method of breaking line of sight.
Peeking the same angle
Symptom: The first burst does not finish the opponent, so you reappear in the same doorway.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Fix: Change floor, cover or direction. A short-fight kit succeeds by ending exposure, not by winning a static exchange.
Carrying no healing
Symptom: You survive contact but cannot sprint through the next area or withstand ARC damage.
Fix: Give healing a dedicated quick-use position and use it behind solid cover before beginning the next rotation.
Copying an old patch build exactly
Symptom: The cloak drains faster than expected, an augment no longer accepts the shield, or the item is unavailable.

Symptom: You plan an extraction around a crawl window seen in a guide.
Fix: Treat the reported roughly one-minute crawl and interaction opportunity as version-sensitive community information. If downed, attempt the nearest valid interaction immediately.
A deployment checklist
- Confirm the current patch, shield restrictions and augment compatibility.
- Equip a light or movement-friendly shield unless a specific objective justifies the burden.
- Choose a quiet, controllable primary and a close-range panic weapon.
- Place healing where it can be activated without hesitation.
- Select one concealment or movement tool and identify the situation in which you will spend it.
- Mark a primary extraction and a fallback such as a Raider Hatch when access and inventory permit.
- Before looting deeply, identify at least one hard-cover route to each exit.
- When spotted, take only the shots needed to create space, then rotate.
- After a loud exchange, move away from the original position before starting the final approach.
- If downed near an exit, try the interaction immediately; do not assume the community-reported crawl timing will remain unchanged.
Frequently asked questions
Is Photoelectric Cloak still good after the patch?
It remains a useful escape concept, but its value depends on the live power cost and your available energy. Official notes record changes from 2.5/s to 10/s and later from 10/s to 5/s, so judge it by the current patch rather than a fixed duration claim.
Should a solo player use the strongest weapon available?
Not automatically. The cited weapons guidance puts positioning and strategy ahead of raw weapon tier. A controllable primary that supports a short engagement and retreat can serve a solo run better than a weapon that encourages a loud, stationary duel.
When should I use smoke?
Use Tactical Mk.3 Smoke when it crosses a meaningful sightline and you already know where you are going next. Its job is to buy a route change, not to let you stand still in concealment.
Is Powered Descender always better than cloak or smoke?
No. Powered Descender depends on a safe, useful vertical route, while cloak and smoke solve different line-of-sight problems. Select the tool that matches the terrain between your current position and extraction.
Can a downed solo player really extract?
The community guide reports roughly a minute of crawling and says extraction or a Raider Hatch may still be activated. That is not presented as a guaranteed official rule and may change with the game version, so attempt the interaction immediately if you are close enough.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Photoelectric Cloak still good after the patch?
It remains useful when its current power cost fits your route, but official updates changed consumption from 2.5/s to 10/s and later to 5/s. Check the live patch before planning around it.
Should a solo player use the strongest weapon available?
Not automatically. A controllable, quieter weapon that supports a short engagement and retreat is often more useful than a higher-tier gun that encourages a prolonged fight.
When should I use Tactical Mk.3 Smoke?
Use it to cross a real sightline and reach a preselected route, cover position or change of floor. Do not spend it merely to hide in place.
Can a downed solo player extract?
A community guide reports roughly a minute of crawling and possible extraction or Raider Hatch interaction, but the timing is version-sensitive and not a guaranteed official rule.
