Best Social Deduction Games to Play If You Like Demon Bluff (2026 Guide)

Blood on the Clocktower is the closest group substitute for Demon Bluff because both put a demon among apparently helpful villagers. For a shorter, easier-to-organize session, choose The Resistance: Avalon or The Resistance. Choose Feed the Kraken if you want several secret factions, and keep Demon Summoner on your watchlist for its planned 2027 release. The important distinction is format: Demon Bluff is a solo PC deduction game, while every current alternative here is a physical multiplayer game.

What makes a game a good Demon Bluff alternative?

Demon Bluff is unusual because it combines social-deduction logic with a single-player roguelike deckbuilder. Steam describes it as a game in which demons infiltrate a village disguised as allies. Its official site explains the key rule: good characters tell the truth, while evil or corrupted characters lie. You therefore work backward from unreliable information to identify the demons.

The demo released on May 27, 2026. Steam lists the full release for Q4 2026, so availability can change during the year. The recommendations below match different parts of that formula rather than pretending that a multiplayer board game reproduces the solo card system exactly.

  • Demon-hunting theme: Blood on the Clocktower is the strongest match.
  • Hidden teammates and repeated votes: The Resistance: Avalon is the best fit.
  • Fast, moderator-free play: The Resistance is the simplest choice.
  • Several competing factions: Feed the Kraken offers the broadest shift in structure.
  • A future demon-focused release: Demon Summoner is planned for Summer 2027, not currently available.

Quick comparison

Game Format and players Typical time Facilitation Why it fits Main difference from Demon Bluff
Demon Bluff Solo PC game Not stated in the cited listings Digital rules and card system Truthful and false clues, demons hidden among allies Single-player roguelike deckbuilder rather than a live group game
Blood on the Clocktower 5–20 players, in person 90-minute average Requires a Storyteller Demon-in-a-village premise, Good and Evil teams, private conversations Live discussion and player roles replace computer-controlled clue cards
The Resistance: Avalon 5–10 players About 30 minutes Structured quest voting; no Storyteller role Hidden traitors, accusations, secret information Quest missions and Merlin replace demon investigation
The Resistance 5–10 players About 30 minutes No moderator required Compact hidden-team deduction and sabotage Modern resistance-versus-spies setting, not supernatural or solo
Feed the Kraken Multiplayer physical board game; player range varies by edition Not stated in the cited material Uses board-game procedures and voting Three secret agendas and substantial bluffing Nautical setting and multiple factions instead of a demon village
Demon Summoner 5–12 players 30–45 minutes Tabletop social deduction Righteous players hunt demons while Evil tries to release them Planned Summer 2027 release; not a current option

1. Blood on the Clocktower: the closest thematic match

If what you remember most about Demon Bluff is the idea of a demon hiding in a village, start here. The game takes place in Ravenswood Bluff, where Good and Evil players pursue opposing objectives. A Storyteller runs the session, manages role information, and keeps the game moving while players investigate one another.

Bank Heist - Social Deduction Board Game
  • Action-packed social deduction game
  • No player elimination until a second, shorter phase
  • 3 factions: Crew, Agents, & Rivals

Asmodee’s product information lists five to 20 players, an average play time of 90 minutes, and a listed price of $169.99 when accessed in 2026. The price, stock and edition should be checked at the time of purchase; the figure is not a permanent or universal price.

How the deduction works

Unlike Demon Bluff, where the central uncertainty is whether a card is truthful, Blood on the Clocktower makes people the information source. Characters have abilities, players receive private information, and conversations happen both publicly and in pairs or small groups. A statement can be accurate, mistaken, strategically incomplete or deliberately false. The table must combine claims, voting behavior and night results to decide whom to trust.

Why it suits Demon Bluff players

  • The demon is not merely a generic hidden traitor; the setting makes demon identification the central narrative problem.
  • Good and Evil have clearly opposed goals, preserving the “someone among us is lying” pressure.
  • Private conversations create the same kind of information asymmetry that makes unreliable clue cards interesting.
  • The Storyteller can teach roles, resolve edge cases and tune the experience for a new group.

What to expect before buying

This is a commitment for a group, not a solo replacement. You need at least five players and someone willing to learn and run the Storyteller role. A 90-minute average excludes the time needed to teach the rules, select a script and settle in. It is best for a regular group that enjoys discussion, persuasion and replaying the same core system with different roles.

2. The Resistance: Avalon: the best 5–10-player alternative

The Resistance: Avalon is the strongest choice when you want a compact group game built around secret loyalties. It supports five to 10 players and runs for about 30 minutes, according to Asmodee Nordics’ product information accessed in 2026.

Rank #2
Secret Hitler
  • A fast-paced game of deception and betrayal
  • Beautiful wooden components
  • Solid game boards with foil inlay
  • Hidden roles and secret envelopes for five to ten players

Core procedure

  1. Players receive secret Good or Evil identities.
  2. A proposed team is formed for a quest.
  3. The table votes on whether that team should proceed.
  4. Selected players secretly choose success or failure.
  5. Evil players try to sabotage three quests while avoiding identification.

Merlin knows who is on the Evil side, but must conceal that knowledge. This creates a second deduction problem: Good needs Merlin’s information, while Evil wins if it can identify Merlin before the final reveal.

Why choose Avalon over Blood on the Clocktower?

Avalon has a smaller player requirement, a shorter advertised duration and no Storyteller. The quest structure gives each round a clear decision point, so it is easier to teach to people who have never played social deduction. It also avoids player elimination during the main game, allowing everyone to keep voting and arguing until the conclusion.

What you give up

There is no demon-village investigation and no deck of potentially truthful or corrupted clues. Information comes from team proposals, votes, quest outcomes and what players say. If the supernatural theme matters more than the hidden-team mechanism, Blood on the Clocktower is the better match.

3. The Resistance: the fastest moderator-free choice

The original The Resistance keeps the hidden-team structure while removing the fantasy setting and Merlin-specific layer. Asmodee describes it as a five-to-10-player game lasting about 30 minutes, with no moderator and no player elimination.

Bezier Games One Night Ultimate Werewolf Fast-Paced Bluffing Party Game | Fast-paced social deduction party game filled with bluffing, hidden roles, clever accusations, and exciting group play
  • IMMERSIVE DEDUCTION EXPERIENCE – Step into a tense village mystery where players take on hidden roles and work together to uncover the Werewolves through logic, discussion, and quick decisions
  • QUICK 10-MINUTE ROUNDS – Fast gameplay makes it ideal for classrooms, family gatherings, and mixed-experience game groups; easy setup and simultaneous play allow for multiple back-to-back sessions
  • SECRET ROLES & STRATEGY – Each player receives a unique identity like Seer, Troublemaker, or Werewolf, encouraging bluffing, analysis, and strategic interaction that keeps every game engaging
  • EASY TO LEARN, EXCITING TO MASTER – Simple rules and real-time play make the game accessible for newcomers, while varied role combinations create depth and replay value for experienced players
  • EXPANDABLE & HIGHLY REPLAYABLE – No two sessions are the same, and expansions such as Daybreak, Vampire, or Alien introduce new characters and twists to build a deeper social deduction experience

Why it is easy to organize

  • No Storyteller or permanent game host is needed.
  • Every player remains involved through the final mission.
  • The mission-and-vote loop is short enough for a weeknight or a first trial of social deduction.
  • The rules are focused on identifying spies, so there are fewer role interactions to explain.

Resistance players try to approve teams that can complete missions. Spies attempt to join missions and sabotage them, then use discussion and voting to redirect suspicion. The result is a clean test of whether your group enjoys reading motives, tracking voting patterns and lying under pressure.

When it is a better fit than Avalon

Choose the original game when you want the fewest moving parts and do not need a named supernatural role such as Merlin. Choose Avalon when the additional information role and Arthurian framing are likely to make your group more engaged. Both are roughly 30-minute, five-to-10-player games; the decision is about complexity and theme rather than duration.

4. Feed the Kraken: a larger game with multiple factions

Feed the Kraken is the choice for players who want to move beyond a simple Good-versus-Evil split. Official and retailer descriptions identify three competing agendas: loyal sailors, pirates and a cult. Bluffing, deduction and voting determine which agenda controls the voyage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How its structure differs

In a two-sided game, you are usually asking, “Which players are on the opposing team?” With three factions, a player can be helping one side without being aligned with the side you initially assumed was the enemy. Temporary cooperation, opportunistic votes and conflicting win conditions become more important.

Indie Boards & Cards Coup Card Game | Fast Bluffing and Social Deduction Strategy, Hidden Roles, Deception, and Player Interaction
  • TENSE SOCIAL DEDUCTION – Use influence, bluffing, and clever timing to manipulate rivals as you claim roles, challenge actions, and decide when to take risks or play it safe in this fast, interactive strategy card game.
  • FAST, CLEAN GAMEPLAY LOOP – Each turn you take a single action, whether or not you truly have the role you claim; simple structure keeps play moving quickly, encouraging bold decisions and steady table engagement.
  • EASY TO LEARN, DEEP TO MASTER – Clear iconography and a compact ruleset help new players jump in immediately, while experienced groups explore layered mind games, calculated challenges, and long-term reads on opponents.
  • SMALL BOX, BIG INTERACTION – Minimal components and a portable form factor provide a full social experience in any setting; ideal as a warm-up, a closer, or a repeat-play favorite for hobby groups and mixed tables.
  • REPLAYABLE EVERY SESSION – Unique role interactions, shifting alliances, and player-driven narrative ensure every game feels different; Coup’s elegant system rewards repeated play and evolving strategies.

Why Demon Bluff players may enjoy it

  • Secret identities make every public claim potentially strategic.
  • Voting is not just a way to eject a suspect; it determines the direction of play.
  • Multiple agendas reward tracking who benefits from each outcome.
  • The physical board-game presence provides a more substantial table experience than a compact card-only session.

The trade-off

The nautical theme is a major departure from demons in a village, and the cited material does not establish a single play time or player count that applies to every edition. Confirm the edition’s specifications before buying. Pick it for faction complexity, not because it reproduces Demon Bluff’s clue-card rule.

5. Demon Summoner: a future demon-themed watchlist

Candlecraft Games describes Demon Summoner as a five-to-12-player social-deduction game planned for Summer 2027. Its advertised play time is 30–45 minutes and its age recommendation is 13+. Treat those details as planned specifications, not proof of current availability.

Premise and factions

The Righteous team tries to smite demons. Evil traitors work to release them. One player is the publicly known Demon Summoner, creating an unusual tension: the table knows who occupies the central role, but not which hidden players are supporting that agenda or how they will manipulate the group.

How to use this recommendation

Add it to a watchlist if the demon theme is non-negotiable and you are willing to wait. Check Candlecraft Games’ current release announcement, player count and regional availability before planning a purchase or event. Until launch, it cannot replace a currently playable game.

Choosing by the part of Demon Bluff you want to preserve

If you value this in Demon Bluff… Choose Reason
Demon-infiltrated village atmosphere Blood on the Clocktower It keeps the demon-versus-village premise and adds private investigation.
Short rounds with secret traitors The Resistance: Avalon Five to 10 players, about 30 minutes and structured quest votes.
The simplest rules and no host The Resistance It advertises moderator-free play and no elimination.
More than two hidden factions Feed the Kraken Sailors, pirates and a cult create competing agendas.
A future game explicitly about demons Demon Summoner Its planned design centers on Righteous and Evil teams, but launch is scheduled for 2027.

Solo versus multiplayer: set expectations correctly

The biggest decision is not which theme you prefer; it is whether you want to play alone. Demon Bluff supplies opponents, clues and progression through a digital system. You can pause, restart and analyze information privately. The tabletop alternatives require other people and derive much of their uncertainty from human behavior.

That changes the skill being tested. In Demon Bluff, you inspect the reliability of cards and infer which information is corrupted. In Blood on the Clocktower, you evaluate role claims and private conversations. In Avalon and The Resistance, you track team proposals, mission outcomes and voting coalitions. In Feed the Kraken, you must also account for players whose goals are neither clearly allied with you nor directly opposed to you.

How to organize your first session

For five to 10 players

  1. Choose The Resistance for the shortest rules explanation, or Avalon if you want Merlin and the fantasy framing.
  2. Set aside about 30 minutes for the game itself, then add teaching time.
  3. Explain that voting behavior and mission results are evidence, not automatic proof; a failed mission identifies a sabotage opportunity, not always a single culprit.
  4. Run a second game immediately if possible. Players understand the deduction loop faster after seeing one complete reveal.

For a larger group

  1. Use Blood on the Clocktower with five to 20 players if someone can serve as Storyteller.
  2. Schedule roughly 90 minutes for an average session and longer for teaching or post-game discussion.
  3. Give the Storyteller time to prepare role information and explain how private conversations work.
  4. Agree before starting whether new players may ask rules questions publicly or privately, so information is handled consistently.

For players who want faction complexity

  1. Pick Feed the Kraken only after confirming the edition’s player range and rules.
  2. Teach each faction’s win condition before discussing tactics.
  3. Ask players to explain not only whom they distrust, but which agenda benefits from each proposed vote.

Common pitfalls when moving from a solo deduction game

Expecting cards to provide objective answers

In Demon Bluff, the truth-versus-lie rule is part of the programmed puzzle. In tabletop games, players can misunderstand, misremember or intentionally distort information. Treat statements as evidence that needs corroboration, not as mechanically labeled clues.

Choosing a game that is too large for your group

Blood on the Clocktower supports five to 20 players but also asks someone to run the Storyteller role. If your group cannot supply a facilitator, select Avalon or The Resistance instead.

Confusing an announced release with an available game

Demon Summoner is planned for Summer 2027. Demon Bluff has a 2026 demo and a Q4 2026 full-release listing. Check the current store page before assuming either release window has arrived.

Ignoring session length

A 30-minute game and a 90-minute average game produce very different evenings once teaching, setup and discussion are included. Match the game to the time your group can reliably reserve.

Bottom-line recommendations

  • Closest overall theme: Blood on the Clocktower, provided you have five or more players and a Storyteller.
  • Best first purchase for most casual groups: The Resistance: Avalon, because it combines a clear 30-minute structure with meaningful hidden information.
  • Best low-overhead option: The Resistance, with no moderator and no elimination.
  • Best for experienced groups seeking faction variety: Feed the Kraken.
  • Best future match: Demon Summoner, after its planned Summer 2027 launch is confirmed.
