The best fingerprint smart lock is the one that fits your door, offers a backup entry method, and has the connectivity your home actually uses. Start by measuring the door and identifying the exact model variant—not just the product family. The documented options below differ in door dimensions, radios, hub requirements, battery estimates, sensors, and regional availability. Manufacturer specifications support the feature comparison, but there are no independently comparable tests of fingerprint speed, recognition failure rates, security, or long-term reliability.
What to compare before buying a fingerprint smart lock
Fingerprint access is only one part of a lock purchase. A useful comparison covers seven separate decisions:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Physical fit: door thickness, face-bore and latch-bore diameters, backset, deadbolt style, and regional installation standards.
- Daily entry: fingerprint, keypad, phone app, physical key, or another method.
- Connectivity: Bluetooth, built-in Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, or a combination.
- Remote control: whether the lock can be reached away from home and whether a bridge or compatible hub is required.
- Power: battery type, the manufacturer’s usage assumptions, and emergency power access.
- Door status: whether the lock can determine that the door is open or closed, and whether an optional sensor is needed.
- Smart-home compatibility: the platforms supported by the precise SKU, not merely by the brand or product family.
Do not treat a family name as a specification. The ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro line, for example, is sold in Bluetooth, built-in Wi-Fi, and Z-Wave versions. Features, hub requirements, and expected battery life change with the radio installed.

Check whether the lock will physically fit
A fingerprint reader cannot compensate for a deadbolt that does not match the door. Measure before choosing a model and compare the results with the installation guide for the exact version you intend to buy.

Measurements that matter
- Door thickness: measure the slab itself, excluding trim and weather stripping.
- Face-bore diameter: measure the large hole through the door face. Several documented models use a 54 mm hole.
- Latch-bore diameter: measure the smaller hole in the door edge. The ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro specification lists a 25 mm latch hole.
- Backset: measure from the door edge to the center of the bore. Aqara U100 specifies either 60 mm or 70 mm.
- Deadbolt type: confirm that the existing bolt and strike arrangement match the replacement lock’s mechanism.
- Clearance and trim: check that the interior housing will not collide with a nearby window, storm door, molding, or handle.
Documented fit ranges
| Model | Published fit information | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro family | 35–45 mm standard door thickness; 54 mm face hole and 25 mm latch hole. | Exact radio version, deadbolt dimensions, interior clearance, and any regional installation differences. |
| Aqara Smart Lock U100 | 35–55 mm door thickness; 60 mm or 70 mm backset; 54 mm hole. | Backset, bore size, deadbolt geometry, and whether the local door uses the same installation standard. |
| ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint | Manufacturer publishes door dimensions and notes that a thicker-door kit may be required. | Exact Bolt Fingerprint version and the measured door thickness before ordering a kit or lock. |
| Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch with Wi-Fi | 35–57 mm door thickness on the cited Canadian listing. | Regional SKU, local availability, compatibility, and the dimensions in the manual for your market. |
If a measurement falls outside the published range, do not assume an adapter will solve it. Ask the manufacturer or an authorized installer whether a compatible kit exists. A thicker-door kit is specifically called out for the ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint; it should not be presumed to fit another model.
Fingerprint locks worth putting on your shortlist
The following models have documented fingerprint access and enough published information to define meaningful buyer checks. They are not ranked by speed, reliability, or security: the available specifications do not include independent comparative testing.
| Product/version | Documented features | Battery information | Main checks before purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro WiFi | Fingerprint deadbolt, built-in Wi-Fi, mechanical key override, and micro-USB backup power interface. | Manufacturer estimate: 3–6 months. This is a model estimate, not an independent test. | Wi-Fi coverage at the door, exact ecosystem functions, physical dimensions, and whether the shorter estimate suits your household. |
| ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro or U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave | Fingerprint deadbolt in the same family; the Z-Wave version is intended to integrate through a compatible hub or system. | Manufacturer estimate: up to one year for the listed U-Bolt Pro and U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave versions. | Confirm whether you are buying Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or Z-Wave; check hub requirements and the supported platform. |
| Aqara Smart Lock U100 | Fingerprint deadbolt with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT compatibility listed by Aqara; mechanical keys and Type-C emergency power. | Four AA batteries; Aqara estimates more than eight months assuming eight fingerprint unlocks per day. | 35–55 mm door, 60/70 mm backset, 54 mm hole, and the setup requirements for your chosen platform. Product information: Aqara Smart Lock U100. |
| ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint | Fingerprint deadbolt with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi; a physical key is listed. | Not stated in the cited product information. | Do not confuse it with Bolt Pro or U-Bolt Pro. Check the exact dimensions and whether the thicker-door kit is needed. |
| Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch with Wi-Fi | Fingerprint entry, four AA batteries, backup key, and an ANSI/BHMA Grade 2 claim. | Not stated in the cited product information. | The cited page is Yale’s Canadian listing. Verify the regional SKU, local compatibility, and availability before generalizing these details. |
Choose the right connectivity version
Bluetooth
Bluetooth can handle nearby phone communication without putting a Wi-Fi radio in the lock. It may be suitable when you mainly use fingerprints, a keypad, or a phone while standing at the door. Bluetooth alone does not automatically provide remote access from work or vacation; the model’s documentation must specify how an internet connection is added, if it can be added at all.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Built-in Wi-Fi
A built-in Wi-Fi version can connect directly to the home network for remote functions, but it depends on usable coverage at the door and generally consumes more power than a simpler local-only arrangement. The U-Bolt Pro WiFi’s published battery estimate is 3–6 months, substantially shorter than the up-to-one-year estimate listed for the U-Bolt Pro and U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave versions. Treat those figures as manufacturer estimates for different versions, not as a controlled comparison.
Z-Wave
Z-Wave is not a complete smart-home system by itself. The U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave requires a compatible hub or home-automation system for integrations. Confirm the hub’s regional frequency and supported lock commands before buying; a Z-Wave radio in the lock does not guarantee compatibility with every controller.

Do fingerprint locks work without Wi-Fi?
Fingerprint and keypad entry can work locally on models designed for those methods, so a Wi-Fi outage does not necessarily prevent you from unlocking the door at the reader. Remote notifications, away-from-home control, cloud features, and some smart-home automations are different: they require the connection and bridge or hub specified for that model. Read the manual for offline behavior rather than assuming that every feature remains available.
Plan for batteries and emergency entry
Battery figures are easy to overread. Aqara’s U100 estimate of more than eight months assumes eight fingerprint unlocks per day. ULTRALOQ gives up to one year for the listed U-Bolt Pro and U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave versions, but 3–6 months for U-Bolt Pro WiFi. Different radios, traffic levels, temperatures, notification settings, and lock alignment can change real use. None of these numbers is an independently measured, directly comparable result.
Backup methods documented for the candidates
- ULTRALOQ U-Bolt Pro: mechanical key override and a micro-USB backup power interface.
- Aqara U100: mechanical keys and Type-C emergency power.
- ULTRALOQ Bolt Fingerprint: a physical key is listed; confirm the emergency-power method for the exact version.
- Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch with Wi-Fi: a backup key is listed on the Canadian product page.
Keep the emergency key somewhere accessible but not in the locked room, and know where the external emergency-power contacts are before the batteries are depleted. Confirm the connector type in the manual: micro-USB and Type-C are not interchangeable in practice.
Battery choice and maintenance
Use the battery type specified by the manufacturer—four AA cells are documented for the Aqara U100 and the Yale model listed above. Replace all cells together, avoid mixing old and new batteries, and respond to low-battery alerts before relying on emergency power. A lock that is difficult to turn by hand may also drain batteries faster because the motor is fighting door or strike misalignment.
Understand door sensing and auto-lock behavior
Lock position and door position are not always the same thing. A deadbolt can extend while the door is still ajar, leaving the opening unsecured. The U-Bolt Pro WiFi guide describes an optional door sensor that reports whether the door is open or closed. With auto-lock enabled, the lock can be configured to lock only when the sensor reports that the door is closed.

And the spindle bar is in the vertical position. The thumb turn adjustment arrow points to the center dot and the 'UP' sign, then the arrow is inserted upward on the mounting, you can use a little force to get the rear lock completely in.
The sensor is not universal across all U-Bolt variants. The accessory documentation limits compatibility to specified U-Bolt WiFi and Z-Wave versions, so confirm the exact model before purchasing it. Aqara’s U100 product information describes a built-in gyroscope for lock-status detection and says no additional sensor is required for its stated Auto Locking and Door Not Locked functions; that describes lock status, not necessarily every possible door-position condition.

Before enabling auto-lock
- Verify that the deadbolt moves freely with the door fully closed.
- Confirm whether the model detects bolt position, door position, or both.
- Set a delay long enough to avoid locking while carrying packages or taking out rubbish.
- Test the behavior with the door open and closed, then test a deliberate obstruction.
- Keep a backup entry method available in case the lock engages unexpectedly.
Smart-home compatibility is model-specific
Platform logos can hide important differences. Aqara lists Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT for the U100. ULTRALOQ documents platform and sensor compatibility by model, and the Door Sensor is limited to specified U-Bolt WiFi and Z-Wave versions. A Bluetooth model in the same family may not expose the same remote controls or integrations as a Wi-Fi model.
Before ordering, write down the exact model name, radio type, region, and hub you already own. Then verify:
- Whether the lock can be added directly to your platform or needs a bridge.
- Which commands are supported: unlock, lock, status, codes, notifications, or automations.
- Whether remote unlock is enabled, restricted, or unavailable.
- Whether a door sensor is included, optional, or unsupported.
- Whether the regional version uses the same app, radio frequency, and certification.
Installation checklist
- Identify the exact SKU. Record the full product and connectivity designation, not just “fingerprint lock.”
- Measure the door. Record thickness, face-bore diameter, latch-bore diameter, backset, and the distance to nearby trim.
- Inspect the deadbolt. Make sure it is the type and size supported by the lock and that the strike aligns with the bolt.
- Check the environment. The ULTRALOQ fit guidance covers standard U.S. doors, and its support information says the interior assembly is not intended for outdoor use, including gates, because of the battery box. An exterior-facing keypad or weather-resistant claim does not mean the complete assembly can be installed outdoors.
- Install mechanically first. With the door open, extend and retract the bolt by hand and with the motor. Correct binding before pairing the app.
- Insert batteries and calibrate. Follow the precise manual’s handing or calibration procedure; do not infer it from another model in the same family.
- Enroll fingerprints and a code. Add more than one finger for each regular user and create a separate backup code where supported.
- Test every entry route. Try fingerprint, keypad, app, key, and emergency power while the door is open, then repeat with the door closed.
- Configure integrations last. Add the bridge or hub, update settings, and test remote access only after local operation is reliable.
Common failure modes and fixes
The lock does not fit the door
Stop installation and recheck the measured thickness, bore diameters, backset, and deadbolt geometry against the model manual. Do not force the interior assembly or enlarge a hole without confirming that the modification is approved. For the Bolt Fingerprint, determine whether the manufacturer’s thicker-door kit covers your measured thickness.
Fingerprint recognition is inconsistent
Enroll the same user’s finger more than once if the manual allows it, keep the reader clean and dry, and test with the finger area used during enrollment. A failed scan does not establish that one model is inherently unreliable; no independent failure-rate comparison is documented here. Keep the keypad, app, or key available while diagnosing the reader.

The motor stalls or reports a jam
With the door open, check whether the bolt travels smoothly. If it works open but binds closed, align the strike and inspect door sag or weather pressure. Recalibrate only after the mechanical problem is corrected; repeated motor attempts can increase battery consumption.
Remote access does not work
Confirm that you bought the Wi-Fi version or installed the required Z-Wave hub, that the lock has network coverage, and that the app shows the lock online. A Bluetooth-only connection may provide local control without internet access. Platform support must be checked against the exact model.
The door locks while open
Disable auto-lock temporarily and determine whether the lock has a door-position sensor or only a bolt-position sensor. On compatible U-Bolt WiFi installations, pair and position the supported Door Sensor, then configure the option that permits locking only when the door is closed. Do not assume that accessory works with every U-Bolt version.
The batteries are depleted
Use the documented emergency interface—micro-USB for the specified U-Bolt Pro or Type-C for the U100—then unlock with an enrolled method or key and replace the batteries. Verify the connector and procedure in the model manual before an emergency occurs.

Choose U-Bolt Pro WiFi when direct Wi-Fi is the priority
This version combines fingerprint entry, built-in Wi-Fi, a mechanical key override, and micro-USB backup power. Its published 3–6 month battery estimate is the trade-off to evaluate, along with reliable Wi-Fi coverage at the door.

Choose a U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave version when you already use a compatible hub
Z-Wave can fit a hub-based automation system, and the manufacturer lists up to one year of battery life for the U-Bolt Pro Z-Wave. Verify the controller, regional radio requirements, and supported commands before buying.
Choose Aqara U100 when its fit and platform list match your home
The U100 has the broadest explicitly listed platform set in this comparison—Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT—plus mechanical keys, Type-C emergency power, and four AA batteries. Its more-than-eight-month estimate is tied to eight fingerprint unlocks per day, and its 35–55 mm, 60/70 mm backset, and 54 mm hole requirements must be met.
Consider Bolt Fingerprint when the dimensions and radio mix suit you
The model provides fingerprint access with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and lists a physical key. Distinguish it from Bolt Pro and U-Bolt Pro, verify the exact version, and account for the possible thicker-door kit.
Consider Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch with Wi-Fi only after regional verification
The Canadian listing documents fingerprint entry, four AA batteries, a backup key, 35–57 mm door thickness, and an ANSI/BHMA Grade 2 claim. Those details should not be generalized to every market or SKU without checking the local listing and manual.
What the available evidence cannot tell you
There are no named, independently published comparative statistics in the documented material for fingerprint recognition speed, false-rejection rate, security performance, or long-term reliability. Battery figures come from manufacturers and use different assumptions. Current prices, retailer stock, and availability were not verified, so a price-based winner would be misleading. Treat the comparison as a compatibility and feature-selection guide rather than a lab ranking.
The safest purchase process is therefore sequential: measure the door, select the exact radio version, confirm the platform and hub, verify the backup method, and only then compare convenience features. A lock that fits and remains usable during a dead battery is a better choice than one with a longer feature list that cannot be installed or supported in your home.
