The camera is designed for a forward-facing point of view rather than for replacing a phone’s multi-camera system. Open-ear speakers let you hear calls and media while remaining aware of surrounding sound. Microphones pick up your voice for calls and commands, and the phone supplies the cellular connection, app processing and account authentication.
That division of labor matters. The glasses do not provide an independent phone number, mobile data plan or complete phone operating system. If the phone is absent, incompatible, out of Bluetooth range or missing the required app setup, core functions may be unavailable.

Prescription range and lens choices
Meta’s Blayzer Optics Gen 2 listing gives a total-power accommodation of -12.00 to +6.00. Total power is not the same thing as simply reading the sphere number on a glasses prescription; cylinder, axis, add power, prism, pupillary distance, lens thickness and frame geometry can affect whether an order is accepted. Use the official checkout or a certified optician to validate the complete prescription.
Clear lenses suit indoor and general-purpose wear. Sun lenses are intended for brighter conditions, while Transitions lenses darken in response to light. Availability of each type, coatings and powers can vary by country and frame. Do not assume that a lens option shown for Blayzer is also offered for Scriber, or that a frame sold in one market has the same prescription limits in another.
Calls, audio and camera use
Ray-Ban Meta glasses support hands-free phone calls through the connected phone. The five-microphone array is intended to isolate speech and capture voice commands, while open-ear audio avoids sealing the ear canal. In a quiet room, this arrangement is convenient for short calls; in wind, traffic or a crowded venue, your voice and the other person’s voice can be harder to hear. Keep the phone close enough for a stable Bluetooth connection and use the phone itself when privacy or maximum call clarity matters.

Oakley Meta HSTN: the stronger outdoor and sport alternative
What you get
Oakley Meta HSTN uses a more performance-oriented frame while retaining the central smart-glasses functions: a hands-free 12 MP camera, open-ear listening, voice commands, calling, messaging, media control and content capture. Oakley’s product description specifically presents the camera for capturing action as it happens from your point of view.
HSTN supports prescription lenses, but the exact prescription range and lens choices are frame- and country-dependent. Confirm them at checkout or with a certified optical professional instead of transferring assumptions from another Oakley or Ray-Ban model.
Battery claims in context
Oakley states up to eight hours for moderate use, five hours of continuous audio or voice calling, and 48 additional hours from a fully charged case. Meta’s launch material also describes up to eight hours of typical use and up to 19 hours on standby. A day of intermittent commands and occasional photos is therefore a different workload from five hours of uninterrupted audio or calls.

Choose HSTN when the frame’s sportier shape, outdoor orientation and stated endurance fit your routine better than a conventional lifestyle frame. It is especially practical for walking, cycling spectatorship, travel and other situations where you want a hands-free point-of-view camera without holding a phone. For formal wear, office use or the widest familiar-style selection, Ray-Ban Meta Optics is usually the easier starting point.

How calls work and what affects call quality
After setup, the glasses act as a Bluetooth accessory for the phone. Incoming calls can be answered through the glasses, and voice commands can initiate calls or messages. The phone remains responsible for the carrier connection and contact data.

- Keep the phone in a pocket or bag on the same side of your body rather than several rooms away.
- Face away from strong wind; microphones can capture turbulence even when you hear the caller clearly.

Hands-free photos and video: what to expect
Both models use a 12 MP camera positioned on the frame to record what you are looking toward. Transfer and sharing still pass through the phone and its app, so expect a short delay before a clip appears in your normal gallery or social workflow.

Battery capacity is affected by camera use, call volume, wireless signal, temperature, firmware and how often media is transferred. Treat the published figures as ceilings for the stated scenario, not as a guaranteed runtime for every person.
Phone, app and account requirements
You need a compatible smartphone with the current Meta AI app, a Meta account and a supported operating-system configuration. Pairing, firmware updates, settings, media transfer and many AI functions run through that app. Keep Bluetooth enabled for the connection and allow the permissions requested for calls, contacts, microphone, camera transfer and notifications.
Before buying, check compatibility for your phone model and operating-system version in the current official setup documentation. Availability of Meta AI features can vary by language, country and account rollout. A phone that can make calls but cannot install or run the required app is not a supported substitute.
Comfort, style and outdoor suitability
Prescription comfort depends on more than electronics. Frame width, bridge fit, temple pressure, lens thickness and the weight distribution of the camera and speakers determine whether you can wear the glasses for several hours. An optician can adjust the temples and nose fit, but cannot make an incompatible frame size comfortable.

Photos or video do not appear on the phone

- Free phone storage and retry a short clip; a long high-resolution recording can take longer to transfer.
