For most travelers, Ray-Ban Meta is the best all-round starting point: it combines open-ear live translation with calls, camera functions and voice AI, and it is sold through mainstream retail channels. Choose Even G2 if you want translated words to appear privately in your field of view, XRAI AR2 if captions and accessibility features are the priority, or Solos AirGo V2 for a simpler audio-first setup.
These products do not perform translation in the same way. Some play a translated voice through speakers; others display text in a lens. Language totals are vendor-reported and measured differently, so a larger number is not proof of better accuracy. Your phone, the companion app, internet access and the exact language pair often determine whether a conversation works smoothly.

How live translation glasses actually work
Translation glasses are usually a distributed system rather than a self-contained translator. The glasses capture or receive speech, a phone app converts speech to text, a translation service generates the other language and the result returns as audio or text. Understanding that path explains why two products with similar language counts can feel very different.

Audio-first glasses
With Ray-Ban Meta and Solos AirGo V2, the translated result is primarily heard through open-ear speakers. You can keep looking at the person instead of a phone, but a noisy street, wind or several simultaneous speakers can make audio harder to follow. The phone still handles setup, language selection and some processing even when the glasses are doing the listening and playback.
Text-first glasses
Even G2 places translated words in the lens. This is useful when you need to read a reply quietly, when hearing is difficult or when playing audio would be socially awkward. Reading introduces its own limits: you must keep the display in view, and the configured input-to-output direction matters. Even’s support documentation says Conversate shows translations only in that selected direction rather than automatically switching every time speakers change languages.
Caption-focused systems
XRAI AR2 is built around live captions, with two-way translation and speaker identification. Its speech-to-text processing runs on the phone, which is intended to reduce power use in the glasses. Captions can help in a lecture, meeting or restaurant where audio translation alone would be easy to miss.

What “live” means in practice
Live does not mean instantaneous or error-free. Each sentence has to be detected, transcribed, translated and delivered. Pauses, accents, background music, overlapping speakers, names and technical terms can all cause delays or wrong words. Treat the display or voice as assistance, then confirm critical details such as addresses, prices, medication instructions and travel times with the speaker or a written message.
Ray-Ban Meta: best general-purpose choice
Ray-Ban Meta is the strongest default when translation is only one part of what you want from smart glasses. Ray-Ban’s product material lists live translation, text translation, Meta AI voice responses and smartphone/app connectivity. The glasses use open-ear audio for the translation experience, so you can hear a rendered conversation without covering your ears.
Language availability and offline behavior
Meta announced on April 23, 2025 that live translation was rolling out broadly for English, French, Italian and Spanish. A September 2025 Gen 2 announcement said support was expanding to six languages and that downloaded language packs were intended to enable translation when the phone is in airplane mode. The announcement does not make every language or offline feature universal across countries and software versions. Check the language list shown in your Meta AI app before travel, and download packs while you still have reliable internet.

Why it suits travelers
- Open-ear playback lets you hear a translated reply while keeping situational awareness.
- The same hardware can handle calls, camera use and voice-AI requests, so translation is not the only reason to carry it.
- Official retail availability makes fitting, returns and prescription questions easier than with niche hardware.
Trade-offs
- Audio is less private than in-lens text; people nearby may hear the output.
- The phone and Meta AI app remain central for setup, language packs and app features.
- The built-in camera changes the privacy conversation. Tell people when you are recording and follow local laws and venue rules.
- Language and offline support can change with software rollout, region and generation.
Even G2: best for private in-lens translation
Even G2 is the clearest choice when you want to read a translation rather than hear it. Translated words appear directly in the lenses, allowing a quiet exchange in a taxi, shop or family gathering. Even Realities lists 33 supported languages, including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Cantonese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Bengali and Hindi.

The glasses send audio over Bluetooth to the Even Realities app, which uses cloud translation. That means you need a compatible phone, an active app connection and internet access for the normal workflow. Downloaded offline packs are not established in the supplied Even documentation, so do not assume the glasses will translate without data service.
Direction setting matters
Even’s support documentation says its Conversate feature displays translations only from the configured input language to the configured output language. Before a bilingual conversation, set the direction that matches the next speaker. If both people alternate languages frequently, be prepared to switch the setting or use another communication method for the reverse direction.
Who should choose it
- Travelers who want silent assistance without broadcasting a translated voice.
- People who prefer captions or have difficulty hearing open-ear audio.
- Users who specifically want a camera-free design.
Limitations to plan for
- Cloud processing means weak hotel, roaming or border-area connectivity can interrupt translation.
- Reading a floating caption requires keeping the text in view; it is not a substitute for a full conversation transcript.
- The 33-language figure is a vendor list, not a guarantee that every pair, dialect or feature works equally well.
XRAI AR2: best for captions and accessibility
XRAI AR2 is aimed at live captioning as much as translation. XRAI’s June 10, 2025 announcement describes real-time captions, two-way translation, speaker identification, noise cancellation and a prescription-ready design. It reports up to eight hours of battery life and a weight of 49 grams. The current XRAI site advertises translation for more than 300 languages, while the announcement cited more than 220; those are different vendor statements from different dates and should not be treated as a measured improvement in accuracy.
Why captions are the differentiator
Speaker labels can help in a group discussion, classroom or meeting where you need to know who said each line. Noise cancellation is intended to improve capture in difficult environments, although no independent accuracy benchmark is provided here. Two-way translation makes the system more suitable for an actual exchange than a one-way phrase reader.
Phone-based speech processing
XRAI says speech-to-text processing runs on the phone to reduce power use in the glasses. Keep the phone charged, nearby and unlocked enough for the app’s normal operation. A dead battery or interrupted Bluetooth link can stop captions even if the glasses still have charge.

Prescription and fit considerations
The AR2 announcement describes a prescription-ready design. Confirm the supported prescription range, lens provider, regional availability and fitting process before ordering; “prescription-ready” does not by itself specify every lens type or prescription strength.
Best users
- People who are deaf or hard of hearing and need a visual conversation aid.
- Multilingual users who benefit from two-way captions and speaker identification.
- Anyone working in a noisy environment where hearing a translated voice is unreliable.
Solos AirGo V2: an audio-first alternative
Solos AirGo V2 uses the SolosTranslate service. Solos documents compatibility with AirGo V and V2, and its FAQ lists more than 28 languages. A translated message can appear in the AirGo app and play through the glasses, keeping the interaction audio-first while retaining a written view on the phone.
Workflow
- Install and sign in to the Solos app on your phone.
- Pair the AirGo glasses over Bluetooth and confirm that media volume is audible through the open-ear speakers.
- Select the source and target languages in SolosTranslate.
- Speak in short turns, then check the app transcript when a word, name or number sounds uncertain.
Strengths and unknowns
AirGo V2 is appealing if you want open-ear translation without moving into a caption-first product. The supplied Solos material does not state a battery figure, weight, camera specification, prescription range, offline mode or current price. Verify those details for the exact V2 configuration and your region before buying.

Language support: read the fine print
“Supports 33 languages” or “300+ languages” is not a universal measurement. One company may count speech-recognition languages, another may count translation pairs, and a third may include languages available somewhere in its app rather than on every glasses model. XRAI’s 220-plus figure in its June 2025 announcement and 300-plus figure on its current site illustrate why the date and source matter.
Check the exact pair
A product can list a language for speech recognition but limit which target languages are available, or provide text translation where voice output is unavailable. Look for both directions: for example, source-language to target-language and target-language back to source-language. For Even G2, the configured direction is especially important because Conversate does not automatically present both directions at once.
Test names and numbers
Before relying on glasses for a hotel address, train platform or medication name, test those terms in the app. Ask the speaker to repeat slowly and confirm the written spelling on the phone. Translation systems commonly struggle with proper nouns, abbreviations and local place names even when ordinary sentences work well.

Phone, internet and privacy requirements
Phone dependency
All four products involve a phone in the documented workflow. Ray-Ban Meta requires a smartphone with the Meta AI app. Even G2 routes audio through Bluetooth to the Even Realities app and uses cloud translation. XRAI performs speech-to-text on the phone. Solos AirGo V2 uses SolosTranslate in its app. Pair the glasses and complete account setup before leaving home rather than at an airport gate.
Internet and roaming
Cloud translation can consume mobile data and fail in tunnels, rural areas, airplane mode or congested networks. Downloaded language packs are specifically described for Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, but the feature is subject to software rollout, language and region. The supplied material does not establish equivalent offline operation for Even G2, XRAI AR2 or Solos AirGo V2.
Camera and bystander privacy
Ray-Ban Meta includes a camera. Even G2 is described as camera-free. The supplied product notes do not establish camera specifications for XRAI AR2 or Solos AirGo V2, so verify the exact hardware. Regardless of model, tell conversation partners when audio or video is being captured, disable recording where required and respect venue rules.
Cloud data questions
Ask each manufacturer how long audio, transcripts and translations are retained, whether they are used to improve services, where processing occurs and how to delete account data. These policies can change independently of the glasses’ hardware. A product that displays text privately can still send speech to a phone or cloud service.
Buying checklist
- Output: Decide whether you need open-ear audio, in-lens text, or both captions and audio.
- Language pair: Confirm the exact source and target languages for your model, region and app version.
- Direction switching: Check whether two-way conversation is automatic or requires changing a setting.
- Phone compatibility: Install the companion app, sign in and verify Bluetooth before purchase.
- Connectivity: Establish whether translation is cloud-based, phone-processed or available offline.
- Prescription fit: Confirm supported lens types, prescription limits and fitting arrangements.
- Battery: Use the manufacturer’s figure for the exact generation; only XRAI AR2’s announcement specifies up to eight hours here.
- Privacy: Identify cameras, indicator lights, recording controls and data-retention policies.
- Returns and warranty: Check the seller’s current regional terms because stock, coverage and prices change.
Current prices, stock levels, warranty terms and subscription requirements are not established in the supplied product material. Verify them on the official product page for your country immediately before ordering.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSet up and test before your trip
Ray-Ban Meta
- Install the Meta AI app and complete the account and Bluetooth pairing process.
- Open the translation controls and confirm that your required languages are available in your region.
- If your Gen 2 software offers downloadable language packs, download them on Wi-Fi and test airplane-mode behavior before departure.
- Practice volume, pause and repeat controls with a friend in a quiet room and outdoors.
- Explain the camera and recording indicator to conversation partners before using it.
Even G2
- Install Even Realities, pair the glasses over Bluetooth and allow the permissions needed for audio and display features.
- Confirm that the phone has internet access for cloud translation.
- In Conversate, set the input and output languages in the direction the next speaker will use.
- Read a short test sentence in the lens, then switch directions and verify the second setup separately.
- Adjust text position and brightness so captions remain readable without obstructing your view.
XRAI AR2
- Install the XRAI app, pair the glasses and keep the phone nearby because speech-to-text runs there.
- Select caption and translation languages, then enable speaker identification if your situation needs it.
- Test the microphones in a quiet room, on a street and in a group conversation.
- Charge both phone and glasses; the announcement’s up-to-eight-hour figure is a maximum claim, not a guarantee for every workload.
- If you use prescription lenses, confirm the fitted lenses and your prescription before relying on the glasses.
Solos AirGo V2
- Install the Solos app and confirm that SolosTranslate recognizes AirGo V2.
- Pair the glasses, select both languages and check open-ear volume at a safe level.
- Send a short phrase and compare the spoken result with the translated message in the app.
- Practice switching speakers and languages, since the app remains the reference when audio is unclear.
Troubleshooting common failures
No translation appears
Check that the glasses are connected to the correct phone, the companion app is open, microphone and Bluetooth permissions are enabled and the selected language pair is supported. Move to a stronger data connection if the service uses cloud processing. Restart the app before re-pairing hardware.
Best Value
- Get the most out of the moment with iconic Ray-Ban style and technology by Meta. Now featuring frames for a broader range of face shapes.
- Never miss a beat—ask Meta AI to take photos or videos, unearth information, create clever image captions or check out FAQ’s.
- Video call hands-free and share your POV so others can feel like they’re right there with you whether you’re cooking, watching a game or sharing core memories.
- Capture your world with an updated camera and built-in edit features. Take high-quality photos and videos hands free or livestream your point of view.
- Discreet open-ear speakers let you enjoy rich audio quality, music and calls without losing the ambient sounds of your surroundings.
Captions or audio lag
Shorten speaking turns and ask people not to talk over one another. Reduce background noise, move the phone closer and keep it charged. On XRAI, remember that the phone performs speech-to-text; a distant or overloaded phone can delay captions.
The translation is wrong
Repeat the sentence slowly, spell names on the phone and use a written confirmation for numbers or safety-critical instructions. Try the reverse language direction. Do not rely on any consumer glasses as the sole interpreter for medical, legal or emergency decisions.
The other person feels uncomfortable
Explain what the glasses do, show the translation on your phone and offer to remove the glasses. Disable camera or recording functions where possible and follow local consent laws. A technically successful translation is not a successful conversation if trust is lost.
Final recommendation
Start with Ray-Ban Meta if you want the broadest everyday package and are comfortable hearing translations through open-ear speakers. Choose Even G2 when private in-lens text is the deciding feature. Choose XRAI AR2 for caption-led accessibility, speaker identification and prescription-ready hardware. Choose Solos AirGo V2 when you want open-ear audio translation through SolosTranslate and do not need the other models’ documented caption or camera features.
Whichever model you select, verify the exact language pair, phone requirement, internet or offline behavior, privacy controls, prescription fit, warranty and regional availability before paying. Vendor language totals describe different capabilities; they do not establish which glasses will translate your particular conversation most accurately.
