Check video and touch as separate functions
HDMI can carry the image while USB carries touch data. A display may therefore need both an HDMI cable and a USB connection to the PC. With USB-C, do not assume the connector alone guarantees compatibility: the host must support the display and touch functions the monitor requires. Waveshare describes its 7-inch panel as an HDMI PC monitor with touch support; confirm the included cables and supported systems on the exact listing.

Match resolution to the physical size
The Waveshare panel’s listed 1024×600 resolution is spread across a 7-inch display. Raspberry Pi’s 5-inch and 7-inch Touch Display 2 variants are listed at 720×1280 in portrait orientation. That portrait layout can suit a narrow status dashboard, but it differs from the landscape layout many desktop widgets expect. Consider the interface orientation and the size of the text and controls you plan to show, not just the pixel count.

Plan for power and mounting
Determine how the panel is powered and where it will sit before ordering. Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 draws power through GPIO and connects to the Pi with a DSI cable; the correct flat-flex cable and installation depend on the Pi model. Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2: compact, but Pi-specific
Raspberry Pi lists the Touch Display 2 in 5-inch and 7-inch variants, each with five-finger capacitive touch and 720×1280 resolution in portrait orientation. Its official product page listed prices of $40 for the 5-inch and $60 for the 7-inch model at the time accessed in 2026; these are manufacturer list prices, can change, and do not guarantee local availability. The 10-inch version is listed at 1200×1920 and $80, also a 2026-access list price.
These screens use DSI for display data and GPIO for power rather than standard PC HDMI. The DSI cable and supported Pi models vary, so check Raspberry Pi’s Touch Display 2 documentation for the exact host and installation requirements before choosing a size—especially the 10-inch model. When a larger portable touchscreen makes more sense
The ASUS ZenScreen Touch MB16AMTR is a different category of desk display: ASUS lists a 15.6-inch viewable Full HD panel, hybrid USB-C and mini-HDMI connectivity, and 10-point touch. It is relevant if you want a portable second screen with more room for charts or windows, but its size is a trade-off when the goal is a small panel tucked beside a main monitor. Confirm local availability, current specifications, and whether your host supports the connection and touch functions on ASUS’s product page; ASUS notes that products and specifications can vary by market and change.
