Best Settings to Tune After Installing an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT

After installing an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT, start with the current official driver, verify your monitor’s resolution and refresh rate, and check adaptive sync. Then tune game-specific settings one at a time. There is no universal graphics preset that is best for every game, display, or player.

1. Install the current graphics driver and establish a baseline

Use the driver software for the card you installed: NVIDIA App or GeForce.com for NVIDIA, and AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition for AMD. NVIDIA’s model-specific RTX 5070 Ti announcement, dated February 20, 2025, says the latest GeForce Game Ready Driver is required for users adding that GPU; check NVIDIA’s announcement for context, but download the driver current when you set up the PC. The same principle applies to AMD: use Adrenalin to access driver settings and application profiles.

Once installed, confirm the driver software recognizes the correct GPU. Start from its defaults or a vendor profile rather than layering several overrides onto a fresh setup. AMD’s graphics settings guide describes global settings and individual application profiles; its screenshots and steps are based on Adrenalin 23.9.1 and an RX 7900 XTX, and AMD notes that options can vary by system configuration. NVIDIA App likewise supports global and per-game settings, though some controls remain in NVIDIA Control Panel.

2. Set up the display before changing graphics quality

  1. Connect the display to the intended GPU. Check which video output the monitor is plugged into, especially on a desktop with a separate graphics card and motherboard video ports.
  2. Select the monitor’s native resolution and intended refresh rate in your operating system’s display settings. Choose only a mode supported by the monitor; check its manual or specifications if unsure.
  3. Verify the active display and available modes in the GPU software. NVIDIA App provides display options, while some settings are still in NVIDIA Control Panel. In Adrenalin, open Display Settings to review the AMD display options. NVIDIA outlines its app features and remaining Control Panel settings in its NVIDIA App overview; AMD’s FreeSync setup guide also points to Adrenalin’s display settings.

Do not assume a higher resolution or refresh rate is available simply because the new card supports it. The monitor, cable or connection path, and selected display mode all matter.

  • Epic-X ARGB Lighting 2.0 - Craft your command center with Epic-X ARGB lighting. Fully customizable LEDs illuminate your graphics card, turning your setup into a radiant centerpiece and making your gaming space a true reflection of your style.
  • VelocityX Software - Gain full control over your PNY graphics card to maximize its performance and Epic-X ARGB lighting. Fine-tune core and memory clocks, dial in custom fan curves, and monitor real-time temperatures and speeds, all from one intuitive interface. Save up to five profiles for instant recall.
  • NVIDIA Blackwell Architecture - The Ultimate Platform for Gamers and Creators. Do it all with 5th-Gen Tensor cores for Max AI performance, new streaming multiprocessors that are optimized for neural shaders, and 4th-Gen Ray Tracing cores built for Mega Geometry.

3. Check adaptive sync compatibility

If your monitor supports adaptive sync, check whether its relevant feature is active instead of enabling a setting blindly. AMD Adrenalin reports FreeSync status and certification tier; AMD says FreeSync turns on automatically on supported graphics-card and display combinations, with per-game overrides available. See AMD’s FreeSync instructions for where to inspect the status.

For NVIDIA, inspect the G-SYNC display options in NVIDIA App or NVIDIA Control Panel. Whether adaptive sync works as expected depends on the display, its own settings, the driver, GPU, and connection path. Confirm support in your monitor documentation; the available NVIDIA app overview describes display controls but does not establish compatibility for every monitor.

4. Use per-game settings when your goals differ

Global driver settings are convenient when you want one baseline across games. Prefer a per-game profile when a particular title needs different behavior or you want to test a change without affecting everything else. Both AMD Adrenalin and NVIDIA App offer global and game-specific controls.

  • For a competitive game: you may value responsive controls and consistent frame delivery over the highest image quality.
  • For a single-player game: you may prefer richer visuals, even if that means choosing a more moderate frame-rate target.
  • When unsure: leave driver overrides at their defaults, change one setting at a time, and compare the result in the same scene or workload.

These are trade-offs, not universal driver prescriptions. Do not assume a sharpening, latency, synchronization, or frame-rate-limit override will improve every game; behavior can vary by title and implementation.

5. Check Resizable BAR or Smart Access Memory against your platform

Resizable BAR and AMD Smart Access Memory are platform features, not settings that should be enabled without checking compatibility. Before changing firmware options, verify that the processor, motherboard, BIOS, graphics card, and driver meet the applicable requirements for your system.

  • Check for a current motherboard BIOS and confirm the motherboard and CPU platform support the feature.
  • Review the platform’s firmware settings and follow the motherboard maker’s instructions.
  • Afterward, check the GPU vendor’s software for a status indication where available.

NVIDIA’s Resizable BAR explainer provides general compatibility guidance using RTX 30-series-era examples; it is not an RTX 5070 Ti-specific compatibility table. AMD’s RX 7000 Series quick reference is background for its earlier generation, not a definitive requirements list for the RX 9070 XT. Use current documentation for your actual CPU, board, BIOS, and card before enabling a firmware option.

6. Tune image quality and performance inside each game

Start with the game’s recommended or high preset, then decide what you want to improve: native image quality, frame rate, latency, or a balance. Test a demanding section of the game and pay attention to frame pacing as well as the average feel of play. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it helped.

Upscaling, frame generation, ray tracing, and latency features depend on the game and how it implements them. Read the game’s own documentation and use its options in light of your target resolution and latency preference. A setting that suits one game—or one player’s priorities—may not suit another. The cited material does not establish a universal preset or a tested RTX 5070 Ti versus RX 9070 XT settings comparison, so choose based on your own games and priorities rather than assuming either card requires a particular global configuration.
