Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsEnable your monitor’s built-in OLED protections: pixel shifting, screen saver or idle dimming, and logo dimming where available. Avoid leaving a bright, static game HUD or desktop on screen when you step away, and let the monitor complete its automatic pixel-cleaning routine. Exact names, defaults, and schedules vary by model, so use the monitor’s own menu and manual rather than applying a universal brightness percentage or cleaning interval.
Which settings should you enable?
Open the monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) and look for the following controls. Labels and defaults differ between brands and models; check the exact monitor manual if a setting is missing or named differently.

- Pixel Shift or Screen Move: Enable it if available. The feature subtly moves the image to vary where static elements fall on the panel.
- Screen Saver or idle dimming: Enable it to reduce brightness when the display detects no movement. This is useful when a game is paused or the desktop is left unattended.
- Logo dimming: Enable Adjust Logo Brightness or Auto Logo Brightness if offered. A stronger setting can dim fixed logos more visibly, so choose a level that suits your use.
- Automatic pixel cleaning or refresh: Leave the monitor’s automatic maintenance enabled and allow it to finish when prompted or when it runs after shutdown or standby.
These controls reduce exposure to static images or perform panel maintenance; they do not guarantee that permanent burn-in will never occur. Manufacturer guidance does not establish one setting combination that is best for every gaming monitor.

How to reduce exposure from a fixed game HUD
A persistent health bar, minimap, score, or other bright HUD element is a static part of the image while the rest of the game changes. Use the game’s options to hide or reposition HUD elements when practical, and avoid leaving a paused game or static menu displayed during long breaks. When you leave the monitor unattended, let the screen saver dim it or turn the display off.

For an idle Windows desktop, set the operating system to turn off the display or start a screen saver after a period of inactivity. The manufacturer guidance cited here does not specify a single best timeout, so choose one that fits how you use the computer.
Should you lower brightness?
There is no supported universal brightness percentage that prevents burn-in. Set brightness to a comfortable level for your room and task; lower it if that remains comfortable, but do not treat a particular number as a guarantee. ASUS describes Uniform Brightness as a way to reduce peak brightness and keep levels consistent, particularly for everyday Windows use—not as a universal burn-in setting. ASUS OLED Care guidance

Pixel cleaning: let the monitor manage its own schedule
Pixel cleaning or refresh is not the same as a guaranteed fix for permanent burn-in. Manufacturers describe these routines as panel maintenance or as reducing temporary image retention. Follow the prompt and the instructions for your model; do not assume that every OLED monitor needs a manual cycle at the same interval.
- Samsung: Screen Optimization is described as starting after at least four cumulative hours of use, once the monitor is turned off. Samsung estimates 10–15 minutes and says not to disconnect power during the process. A separate Pixel Refresh control is not available on every model; Samsung warns that using it turns the monitor off for more than an hour. Samsung OLED monitor guidance
- ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDNG: Its manual lists Pixel Cleaning and says the routine takes approximately six minutes and activates automatically when the monitor is turned off. Turning the monitor back on stops the process. ASUS’s general FAQ recommends pixel cleaning every four hours in daily use, but that recommendation should not be turned into a universal schedule; for a specific monitor, follow its manual and prompts. XG27ACDNG manual · ASUS FAQ
- Dell Alienware AW3423DW and AW3423DWF: Dell says Pixel Refresh takes approximately seven minutes. On these models, a prompt may appear after four hours of accumulated use, and the routine activates automatically in standby after more than four hours. Dell’s support article was modified on May 14, 2026. Dell Pixel Refresh guidance
The timings above apply to the named manufacturers and models, not OLED monitors as a whole. Keep the monitor connected to power when its manual says a maintenance routine is running.

|---|---|---|
| Samsung OLED monitor guidance | Pixel Shift; Adjust Logo Brightness. Samsung says Pixel Shift is on by default on the covered monitor guidance and identifies Low as the default logo setting; High reduces logo brightness further. | Screen Optimization is eligible after at least four cumulative hours and runs after the monitor is turned off; estimated at 10–15 minutes. Optional Pixel Refresh is not on every model and turns the monitor off for more than an hour. |
| ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDNG | Screen Saver, Screen Move, Auto Logo Brightness, and Pixel Cleaning Reminder are listed in the manual. | Pixel Cleaning takes approximately six minutes and starts automatically when the monitor is turned off; powering it on stops the process. |
| Dell Alienware AW3423DW / AW3423DWF | The cited Dell support article focuses on Pixel Refresh; it does not state the same set of static-image controls listed for the Samsung and ASUS examples. | Approximately seven minutes; prompt and standby behavior are tied to more than four hours of accumulated use on these named models. |
| LG 27GX704A-B | LG calls its feature OLED Care and says it is available through the included remote. | The cited UK product page does not state a universal maintenance schedule. |
