Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

On a PC near the published minimum specification, lower foliage, global illumination, landscape, reflections, shadows and textures first; keep anti-aliasing, post-processing, shaders, effects and view distance around medium. Use an upscaler in Performance mode if needed, leave frame generation off for the initial test, and change one option at a time. Console players should use the current in-game display and accessibility menus rather than copying PC values: Xbox lists 4K Ultra HD, HDR10 and 60 fps+ capability, while a TechRadar reviewer described a smooth 60 fps on a base PS5, but neither source establishes a universal mode or fixed performance in every scene.
What the “best” settings can realistically mean
Star Wars: Galactic Racer launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It combines Campaign, Scenario and Arcade modes with online player-versus-player and cross-platform multiplayer. The run-based solo campaign can end a tour after a crash, although some perks and unlocks carry over between attempts. That makes consistent frame pacing and a clear view of the track more useful than a single “ultra” preset.

There is no hardware-independent best configuration. A setting that is comfortable at 1080p may be too demanding at 1440p or 4K, and a high-refresh monitor changes the target that makes sense. The launch guides from Games.gg (October 8) and Destructoid (October 6) are starting points for systems near minimum requirements, not universal test results. Use their values as an ordered tuning method, then adjust for your GPU, CPU, output resolution and tolerance for softer or less detailed scenery.

Check your PC against the published requirements
Steam’s requirements are a compatibility baseline. They do not promise a particular resolution, graphics preset or frame rate. The listing requires an SSD in both tiers and 50 GB of available storage.

If your system is below the minimum, first verify that the game launches and that the graphics driver and Windows installation are current. The requirements alone do not establish that an upgrade is necessary; they only describe the publisher’s stated hardware floor and recommended tier.
Set up a PC test before changing quality options
- Choose a baseline resolution. Select the monitor’s native output resolution. Do not lower resolution immediately: an upscaler can reduce render cost while preserving a readable native output.
- Set an initial frame-rate goal. Use 60 FPS for a mid-range or near-minimum PC. If your display and hardware comfortably support more, you can test a higher target later, but stability is more important than a fluctuating peak.
- Switch to a custom preset. This keeps every individual option available instead of letting a global preset overwrite your changes.
- Use a repeatable race section. Recheck the same track segment after each change. A setting that looks fine in a quiet menu can fail when scenery, effects and opponents fill the screen.
- Record one change at a time. Change one option, drive the same section, and note whether the problem is average speed, hitching, image softness or distracting effects. This prevents you from raising one setting while accidentally hiding the cause in another.
Starting preset for a near-minimum or mid-range PC
Games.gg and Destructoid converge on the following low-demand starting point. Destructoid reports that its author used a Ryzen 7 5700X, Radeon 9060 XT 16 GB and 32 GB of RAM; that is the guide author’s setup, not an independently reproduced benchmark. The values below are therefore a practical first pass, not a guarantee for your hardware.
| Option | Starting value | Why start here |
|---|---|---|
| Preset | Custom | Allows individual options to remain available. |
| Output resolution | Display native resolution | Keeps menus and track geometry legible; use upscaling before abandoning native output. |
| Frame-rate target | 60 FPS | A sensible launch target for near-minimum and mid-range systems. |
| Motion blur | Off | Removes an additional layer of track and object smear. |
| Camera shake | Off | Provides a steadier view of braking points and track edges. |
| VSync | Off initially | Leaves latency and synchronization easy to evaluate; turn it on if tearing is objectionable. |
| Foliage | Low | Reduces dense vegetation work that can cost GPU time. |
| Global illumination | Low | Reduces indirect-lighting calculations. |
| Landscape | Low | Limits distant terrain detail. |
| Reflections | Low | Reduces the cost of reflective surfaces and environments. |
| Shadows | Low | Reduces shadow-map detail and draw distance. |
| Texture quality | Low | Controls texture memory use; raise it later if VRAM and frame pacing allow. |
| Anti-aliasing | Medium | Keeps edges readable without beginning at the highest cost. |
| Post-processing | Medium | Maintains a reasonable image while avoiding maximum processing overhead. |
| Shaders | Medium | A middle setting for material and lighting effects. |
| Effects | Medium | Preserves visual cues while limiting peak cost. |
| View distance | Medium | Balances distant track readability and performance. |
| Upscaler | Enabled, Performance mode if below target | Trades some sharpness for more rendering headroom. |
| Frame generation | Off for the initial configuration | The launch guides advise disabling it for a fast-response racing context. |
After applying this preset, drive the same section for several minutes. If the frame rate is stable and the image looks unnecessarily soft or sparse, raise one option at a time. If it is still below 60 FPS, keep the quality settings low and verify whether the upscaler is actually active before making further reductions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhich settings to raise first when performance is stable
Improve texture detail before distant geometry
When frame pacing is stable, try raising texture quality one step. This can improve surface detail without changing the track silhouette as dramatically as increasing view distance or landscape quality. Watch for stutter that appears when new areas load; the game’s SSD requirement helps with storage access, but texture quality still depends on available graphics memory.

Restore shadows, reflections and global illumination selectively
These options can change the scene’s atmosphere substantially, but they are among the settings the launch guides place on Low for near-minimum systems. Raise one of them, repeat the same race segment and keep the change only if your target remains stable. Reflections and global illumination may be more noticeable in bright or wet-looking environments, while shadows can affect the clarity of track-side objects.
Raise foliage, landscape and view distance last
Distant scenery and vegetation are easy places to spend performance without improving the racing line. Increase them only after the image is sharp enough and the frame rate has headroom. A high setting that causes dips during a crowded section is usually a worse trade than a stable medium value.
Keep motion effects tied to preference
Motion blur and camera shake are not mandatory performance fixes. The guides recommend turning both off because they can obscure a fast track view. If you prefer cinematic movement and your vision remains clear, test them independently; do not turn both on simply because the preset does.
Upscaling, VSync and frame generation
Upscaling
Enable the game’s upscaler when native rendering cannot hold the target. Performance scaling is the launch-guide recommendation for lower-spec PCs. It produces a softer image than a less aggressive mode, so once the frame rate is stable, move toward a higher-quality scaling mode or raise a conventional quality setting instead. Compare the same signs, track markings and distant edges after each change; menu sharpness alone is not enough.

VSync
Leave VSync off for the first test. If you see visible horizontal tearing, enable it and check whether the control response still feels acceptable. Synchronization can affect latency, so the right choice depends on your display and sensitivity while steering. Do not treat VSync as a substitute for a stable frame rate.
Frame generation
Games.gg and Destructoid advise turning frame generation off in their launch-era guidance for this fast-response racing game. Begin without it so you can judge real frame pacing and input response. If a later game update changes the implementation, reassess it independently rather than assuming generated frames solve a CPU or GPU bottleneck.
Configuration for a PC above the recommended tier
A system clearly above the RTX 3060 Ti, Arc B580 or RX 6700 XT class can test High or Epic settings, but the requirements do not establish what resolution or frame rate those presets deliver. Keep the native output resolution and your chosen frame-rate target, then raise the most visible options one at a time. Use a custom preset after the first test so a global preset does not undo a carefully balanced combination.
Recommended Free Tools
- Start with the 60 FPS target even on a powerful PC, then move higher only if frame pacing remains consistent on your monitor.
- Raise textures and anti-aliasing if the image is soft, but check VRAM use and hitching during transitions.
- Raise shadows, reflections, global illumination and landscape if their visual improvement matters to you and the same race section remains stable.
- Keep motion blur and camera shake off if readability is your priority; a faster GPU does not make obscuring effects clearer.
- Do not infer 4K performance from the Xbox store’s 4K Ultra HD capability label. That label is a platform capability statement, not a PC benchmark or a promise that every scene renders at native 4K.
Steam Deck and handheld PCs
Games.gg publishes a separate Steam Deck starting configuration: a system-level 30 FPS cap, 1280×800 output, reduced settings and FSR in Performance mode. It is guide advice, not an independently reproduced Steam Deck result. Use it as a conservative baseline, then check whether frame pacing, battery behavior and readability suit your particular handheld.

Xbox Series X|S
The Microsoft/Xbox store listing labels the game as optimized for Xbox Series X|S and advertises 4K Ultra HD, HDR10 and 60 fps+ capability. It also lists cross-platform multiplayer. Online multiplayer on console requires Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, according to that listing. These are store capability labels, not a scene-by-scene guarantee of fixed resolution or frame rate.
No reliable platform-specific menu values are established for Xbox in the available official material. Open the current build’s display and accessibility menus, note the options actually offered, and change only one setting at a time. If the build exposes a performance or resolution choice, judge it with the same priorities as PC—stable frame pacing first, then sharpness and effects—but do not assume a mode exists if the menu does not show one.
PlayStation 5
TechRadar’s reviewer reports almost 30 hours on a base PS5 and describes the experience as smooth at 60 fps. That is one reviewer’s observation, not an official universal target for every PS5 scene or future patch. The review also notes accessibility options across visuals, audio and subtitles, plus controller remapping and toggleable controls.

The official pages do not establish PS5 resolution targets, HDR calibration values or a platform-wide performance/quality selector. Inspect the current display and accessibility menus on your console. Use controller remapping, subtitle and visual options to improve legibility or comfort without assuming that a setting name or value from another platform is present.
HDR and television setup
HDR10 is explicitly advertised on the Xbox listing, but no authoritative calibration numbers are supplied for either console. Calibrate HDR with your television or console’s current system workflow and the game’s options if available; do not copy a PC brightness value or invent a fixed slider position. If highlights look clipped or dark track sections lose detail, recheck the television’s HDR mode and the game’s current display menu.
Use stable settings to protect race readability
Racing exposes uneven frame pacing quickly: braking points arrive at speed, camera movement is continuous and visual effects can cover the racing line. Test in the mode you actually play. A setting that performs well in Arcade may still dip in Campaign scenes with more scenery, while online sessions add opponents and effects. Because a failed run can end a campaign tour, a modest but consistent preset is often preferable to a higher preset with intermittent stalls.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Judge smoothness during turns, braking and crowded sections, not only on a starting grid.
- Watch for regular stutter separately from a low average frame rate; lowering every option may not fix a streaming or CPU issue.
- Keep the same output resolution while comparing settings so you know which change produced the result.
- For online play, prioritize predictable input response and frame pacing over extra reflections or distant scenery.
Troubleshooting by symptom
| Symptom | First checks | Next adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| Frame rate is below 60 FPS everywhere | Confirm the target, native output, custom preset and upscaler status. | Use Performance scaling, then lower foliage, global illumination, landscape, reflections, shadows and textures. |
| Short, repeatable stutters when entering new areas | Confirm the game is installed on an SSD and that storage has the required free space. | Lower texture quality and retest the same section; avoid changing several options together. |
| Image is too soft after improving performance | Check whether the upscaler is in Performance mode. | Try a less aggressive scaling mode or raise one quality option after confirming headroom. |
| Horizontal tearing | Verify that VSync is off and identify whether tearing is visible during camera movement. | Enable VSync and reassess latency and frame pacing. |
| Track view feels obscured | Check motion blur and camera shake. | Turn each off independently and keep the combination that leaves braking points clearest. |
| Performance drops only in busy races | Repeat the test with opponents, effects and dense scenery present. | Lower effects, view distance, reflections or shadows one at a time. |
| Console menu does not match an online guide | Check the game’s current build and platform-specific display menu. | Use only options actually exposed by your console; do not force PC values onto PS5 or Xbox. |
Platform and edition notes
The official game-site announcement describes physical Standard and Deluxe editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the official site lists Amazon among retailers. Edition contents, regional availability and stock can change, so verify the current platform listing before buying. PC availability is listed through Steam. These edition choices do not change the graphics recommendations above; your hardware and display determine the appropriate settings.
Bottom line
For PC, use a custom preset at native output resolution, target 60 FPS, disable motion blur and camera shake, start VSync off, lower the guide-identified heavy options, and use Performance upscaling only as needed. For Xbox and PS5, rely on the current in-game menus and treat store labels or an individual review as evidence of capability—not a promise of a fixed mode in every scene. The best final preset is the one that keeps the same race sections readable and frame pacing stable on your own hardware.
