For the Nintendo Switch 2 remake, start with Standard display mode, Toggle targeting, subtitles enabled, and motion aiming enabled if gyro controls feel comfortable. Standard preserves the most useful on-screen information; Toggle is convenient when combat requires repeated target changes. Switch to Pro or Master only when you deliberately want a cleaner, less informative screen.
The remake is announced for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. The settings described below come from published previews and reports, so final labels, performance, and handheld behavior may change before release.

Recommended starting setup
These choices work well for a first playthrough because they keep navigation and combat information visible without forcing you to hold a shoulder button during every encounter.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

| Option | Starting choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Information density | Standard | Keeps the normal information layer available while you learn the remake. |
| Targeting | Toggle | Lets you lock on and release the button without continuously holding it. |
| Motion aiming | On, if comfortable | Gyro aiming was described as smooth in hands-on play, particularly for slingshot use. |
| Subtitles | On | Improves dialogue readability and prevents missed lines when playing at low volume. |
After an hour or two, adjust one option at a time. Changing several controls together makes it difficult to tell which setting solved a problem or created one.

Choose the right information-density mode
The remake provides three presets: Standard, Pro, and Master. They primarily change how much information remains on screen rather than changing the underlying difficulty or story.
Standard: the practical default
Standard is the safest choice for a first run, younger players, or anyone who wants immediate access to the normal interface. It minimizes the need to pause simply to check what an icon or prompt means. If you are learning the remake’s layout, leave this mode active until the interface becomes familiar.
Pro: less clutter without going fully minimal
Pro reduces on-screen information while retaining more convenience than Master. Choose it when the interface is competing with environmental details, during exploration in visually busy areas, or when you already know the item and button prompts by position. Because the exact elements hidden by each preset were not fully itemized in the available preview reporting, check the live screen after selecting Pro rather than assuming a particular icon will disappear.
Master: the cleanest view
Master hides the most information. It suits experienced players who prefer an unobstructed image and can remember their equipped item, target state, and contextual actions without persistent prompts. It is less forgiving when returning to the game after a long break, so keep Standard or Pro in mind if you find yourself pausing frequently to reconstruct what the interface is telling you.
| Mode | Screen feel | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Full information layer | First playthroughs, accessibility, learning controls | Most visual information |
| Pro | Reduced information | Players who know the interface but still want some assistance | Some prompts or status information are less prominent |
| Master | Minimal information | Veterans seeking an unobstructed view | More reliance on memory and button positions |
When to change modes
- Begin in Standard and play until you can identify your target, equipped item, and immediate objective without consciously reading every interface element.
- Move to Pro if the interface distracts you but you still want occasional contextual help.
- Use Master when you can complete routine combat and item changes without looking for on-screen prompts.
There is no advantage to selecting Master merely because it sounds more advanced. The best preset is the one that lets you keep your attention on the world instead of on missing information.
Set targeting for the way you fight
Targeting is reported to offer Hold and Toggle behavior. The choice changes how long you must keep the targeting button pressed, not which enemies can be targeted.
Toggle targeting
With Toggle, press the targeting control once to lock on and press it again, or use the game’s normal release behavior, to leave that state. It is the better starting point for players who repeatedly enter and leave combat, use the camera while exploring, or dislike keeping a finger pressed during a long encounter. It also reduces hand fatigue during extended sessions.

- Blast off on a high-octane adventure to save a star system from invasion
- Tear through space, soar across planets, and shoot loads of foes out of the sky at every step of the way
- A cinematic take on the Star Fox 64 story, featuring fully voiced dialogue, an epic orchestral soundtrack, and a complete visual overhaul for the Nintendo Switch 2 system
- Enter first-person mode to experience the action from inside the cockpit, and even use mouse controls to fly
- Invite a second player* to join you as a gunner using Nintendo Switch 2 mouse controls
Hold targeting
Hold keeps targeting active only while the button remains depressed. This gives you an immediate physical signal that you are locked on and makes accidental lingering locks less likely. It is useful if you prefer deliberate, short target windows or already play other action games with hold-to-focus controls.
| Preference | Choose | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Frequent lock-on and release | Toggle | Fewer repeated button presses and no continuous hold. |
| Clear physical confirmation of lock state | Hold | Targeting exists only while the button is pressed. |
| Hand or grip fatigue | Toggle | Removes sustained pressure from the targeting finger. |
| Short, deliberate target windows | Hold | Release immediately ends the target state. |
Test your choice in a low-risk area before a difficult fight. If you keep leaving targets accidentally, Hold may feel more predictable. If you find yourself squeezing the shoulder button throughout every encounter, Toggle is likely the better fit.
Use motion aiming when it helps, not because it is available
Motion aiming can be switched on or off. GamesRadar’s hands-on preview described the gyro controls as smooth for slingshot use and noted that item switching felt easier. Those observations make motion aiming worth trying, but they do not make it mandatory.
Enable motion aiming if
- You naturally make small wrist movements to line up a reticle.
- You want fine corrections after using the analogue stick for broad camera movement.
- You play with the controller in a stable position and can keep it level.
- You find stick-only aiming imprecise for small targets.
Disable motion aiming if
- Gyro movement makes the reticle drift when you are sitting still.
- You regularly change posture or play while the controller is supported against your body.
- You are sensitive to motion input or prefer identical controls across games.
- Accidental wrist movement causes you to overshoot targets.
A simple calibration routine
- Open the control settings and enable motion aiming.
- Rest the controller in the position you normally use, rather than holding it unusually high for calibration.
- Enter a safe area and make a small aiming adjustment with the stick, then refine it with a short wrist movement.
- Try a slingshot shot at a stationary target. If the reticle moves when the controller is still, recenter or recalibrate using the console’s controller procedure.
- Repeat the test while standing and sitting if you use both positions. Keep the mode that remains predictable in your normal posture.
Use the analogue stick for broad camera repositioning and gyro input for the final correction. That combination is usually less tiring than trying to perform every movement with motion alone.
Subtitles and readable play
Subtitles are reported as an on/off option. Leave them enabled if you play with reduced volume, share a room, have difficulty hearing quiet dialogue, or want to read every line at your own pace. They are also useful when environmental sound effects compete with speech.
Disable subtitles only when you find the text itself more distracting than helpful. The available reports do not establish additional subtitle controls such as size, speaker labels, background opacity, or language-specific behavior, so do not assume those controls will be present at launch.
Build a setting profile for different sessions
You can change the presets when your priorities change. These combinations avoid forcing one compromise on every type of play.

| Session | Display mode | Targeting | Motion | Subtitles |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First playthrough | Standard | Toggle | Try on | On |
| Combat practice | Standard or Pro | Whichever gives clearer lock-state feedback | On for precision tests | Your preference |
| Immersive exploration | Pro | Toggle | Optional | On unless text breaks immersion |
| Veteran challenge | Master | Hold or Toggle according to muscle memory | Optional | Your preference |
| Low-volume or shared-room play | Standard | Toggle | Optional | On |
These are starting profiles, not locked presets. For example, a veteran who needs readable dialogue can use Master with subtitles on, while a first-time player who finds the interface overwhelming can use Pro after learning the basic controls.

The remake is announced for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. A preview build was reported to run at 60 frames per second on a television, but final resolution and handheld performance had not been confirmed. Treat the television result as preview information, not a launch guarantee.
Until final specifications are published, avoid choosing a display mode on the assumption that it changes resolution or frame rate. Standard, Pro, and Master are information-density presets. They do not replace a confirmed graphics-quality or performance menu.
Before launch or on day one
- Check the game version and system software before diagnosing a visual or control problem.
- Test the same scene on a television and in handheld play if you use both; preview television performance does not establish handheld behavior.
- Allow the game to finish any first-run update before comparing responsiveness.
- Record which information mode and aiming method you used when reporting a problem, because changing those settings can alter how a control issue appears.
PC alternative: Ship of Harkinian
Ship of Harkinian is an unofficial PC port that provides a separate route for players who want extensive graphics and control customization. It is not the Nintendo Switch 2 remake. The port requires you to supply your own lawful copy of Ocarina of Time, which is converted for use by the PC software.
Recommended PC configuration
| Category | GamesHub recommendation | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 4K | Uses a high-resolution output when your display and hardware support it. |
| Frame rate | 60fps gameplay | Targets the port’s recommended smoother presentation. |
| Textures | OoT Reloaded texture pack | Replaces the original texture set with an upgraded one. |
| Aspect ratio | Widescreen support | Uses a wider display area than the original presentation. |
| Camera | Right-stick camera controls | Maps camera movement to a modern analogue-stick layout. |
| Text | Fast text | Reduces the wait between dialogue characters and boxes. |
| Item access | D-Pad item shortcuts | Provides quicker access to assigned items. |
| World detail | Enhanced draw distance | Shows distant geometry and objects sooner where supported. |
| Aiming | Improved aiming controls | Refines the feel of aiming compared with the original control scheme. |
| Interface | HD HUD textures | Sharpens the on-screen interface elements. |
These are configuration recommendations, not a promise that every computer will sustain 4K at 60fps. Resolution, texture packs, draw distance, and frame rate all add workload. If performance is unstable, reduce the most demanding visual options first, then test again before changing control settings.

Legal and practical setup sequence
- Confirm that you own a lawful copy of Ocarina of Time and can create a personal source file where you live.
- Download Ship of Harkinian from its official project distribution and read the version-specific requirements.
- Use the project’s documented conversion process to prepare your own copy. Do not download a pre-converted game file from an unauthorized source.
- Launch the port and configure the display, camera, text, item shortcuts, aiming, and HUD options.
- Begin with 1080p or the port’s default rendering if you are unsure of your computer’s headroom; move to 4K, the OoT Reloaded textures, and enhanced draw distance one at a time.
- Verify that right-stick camera movement, D-Pad shortcuts, and aiming behave correctly before starting a long session.
Because Ship of Harkinian is updated independently from the Nintendo remake, its menu names, supported texture packs, and hardware requirements can change. Follow the documentation for the specific build you install rather than applying Switch 2 settings to the PC port.

Troubleshoot the most common setting problems
The screen feels too busy
Move from Standard to Pro first. If the remaining interface still distracts you and you know the controls, try Master. Return to Standard if you start missing prompts or pausing repeatedly to check your status.
Targeting feels awkward
Switch between Toggle and Hold for a short combat test, then keep the behavior that matches your hand position. Toggle favors repeated lock-on changes; Hold favors short, deliberate target windows.

Gyro aiming drifts or overshoots
Recenter the controller in your normal posture, make smaller wrist movements, and use the stick for broad repositioning. Disable motion aiming if the reticle still moves while the controller is stationary.
Dialogue is easy to miss
Enable subtitles and raise game volume only as far as your environment allows. If subtitles are visually distracting, keep them on for story-heavy sessions and turn them off during exploration.
The PC port stutters at the recommended settings
Test at a lower resolution, remove the texture pack temporarily, or disable enhanced draw distance. Change one graphics option at a time so you can identify the setting that exceeds your system’s headroom. Restore right-stick, D-Pad, and aiming mappings only after frame pacing is stable.
Handheld performance differs from television play
That result is possible because preview reporting confirmed a 60fps television run but did not confirm final handheld resolution or performance. Compare both modes after launch rather than treating the television preview as a specification.
