What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The most reliable shared-progression setup is simple: use one Activision account as your identity hub, sign into that same account in Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone, and link every Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Battle.net, or Nintendo account you use to it. Activision says progression in crossplay-enabled games is stored on the Activision account, so it can continue on another platform linked to that account.
Do not create a second Activision account for a new console or PC unless you deliberately want a separate progression history. A platform account linked to a different Activision account will not bring its Modern Warfare 4 progress into Warzone, and unlinking accounts does not merge the two histories.

The account setting that controls shared progression
Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone do not share progress merely because you use the same Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Battle.net, or Nintendo hardware. The deciding factor is the Activision account attached to each platform account.
Activision’s account guidance states that game progression in crossplay-enabled games is stored on the Activision account. You can therefore play on any platform linked to that account and carry the progression with you. In practical terms, your Activision account is the identity hub; console and PC accounts are sign-in methods attached to it.

This makes account selection more important than a graphics, controller, or network setting. Before launching either game, identify the Activision account that already contains the progression, purchases, friends, and unlocks you intend to keep. Link the new platform to that account instead of registering a new one.
Set up one shared account before you play
1. Find the Activision account with the correct history
Use the Activision account you already used for the progression you want to preserve. If you have more than one account, check which one appears in the in-game registration or account screen in Warzone and Modern Warfare 4. Do not assume that the email address on your console profile identifies the correct Activision account; the two accounts can be different.
If a new platform opens an account-creation prompt, stop and sign in with the existing Activision credentials instead. Creating a second account can split your history before you realize anything is wrong.
2. Link each platform account to that same hub
Activision lists Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Blizzard (Battle.net), and Nintendo among the supported account links. Attach every platform account you plan to use to the one Activision account selected in step one.
A useful inventory looks like this:
| Platform account | What to check | Correct shared-progression state |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox | The Xbox profile used to launch the game | Linked to the same Activision account as your other platforms |
| PlayStation | The PSN profile used on PS5 | Linked to that same Activision account |
| Steam | The Steam account that owns or launches the PC version | Linked to that same Activision account |
| Battle.net | The Blizzard/Battle.net account used for PC access | Linked to that same Activision account |
| Nintendo | The Nintendo account used on a supported Nintendo system | Linked to that same Activision account |
The table describes account relationships, not a guarantee that every platform receives every edition or feature. Confirm that your particular platform is officially supported for Modern Warfare 4 before buying or installing it.
3. Verify inside both games
Open the account or registration area in Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone and confirm that both display the same Activision identity. Activision’s in-game registration flow is the authoritative check because a console or PC launcher can be signed into one platform profile while the game is attached to another Activision account.

After both games show the same Activision account, make a low-stakes change such as adjusting a loadout or completing a short activity. Close the game normally, launch the other title or platform, and confirm that the change appears. This test does not replace Activision’s account-link rules, but it can expose a mismatched sign-in before you invest time in a full session.
Which platforms can share Modern Warfare 4 progress?
Activision announced Modern Warfare 4 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC through Battle.net, Xbox on PC, and Steam, with Switch 2 availability announced in the same release. The stated global launch date is October 23, 2026.
| Use case | What must be true | What this does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Move from PS5 to Xbox Series X|S | Both platform accounts are linked to the same Activision account | That every purchase or edition entitlement is usable on both consoles |
| Move between Steam and Battle.net | Both PC accounts are linked to the same Activision account | That the two PC storefront licenses are interchangeable |
| Play on Xbox console and Xbox on PC | The Xbox identity and any PC launcher identity used are attached correctly | That a console purchase automatically grants every PC version |
| Use a supported Nintendo system | The Nintendo account is linked to the same Activision account | That all launch features or content have identical availability on Nintendo hardware |
| Play Warzone without Modern Warfare 4 | The Warzone sign-in uses the same Activision account as the paid game, if you own both | That Warzone grants the paid game’s campaign or other full-game entitlements |
The first three columns separate the account rule from licensing questions. Shared progression requires the same Activision account; it does not automatically make storefront purchases, platform licenses, or hardware-specific entitlements universal.
What carries into Warzone
Activision’s September 24, 2026 Warzone update says Operators and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 remain available in Warzone Season 1. That includes skins and blueprints earned or purchased for those titles. The update also adds a filter that displays Modern Warfare 4 Operators.
This is a content-continuity statement for Warzone, not a promise that every item from every game is available in every mode. Check the item’s stated game and mode eligibility in Warzone when you equip it.

Activision also says Warzone will integrate Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression beginning with Season 1. Therefore, the safest setup is to have the shared Activision account ready before Season 1 content is released rather than attempting to move accounts after progression has been earned.
Warzone-only access versus the full game
The account-linking method is the same whether you play only Warzone or also own Modern Warfare 4: sign both experiences into the same Activision account. The access model is different, however. Warzone is the free-to-play component, while Modern Warfare 4 is the full paid game. Owning one does not, by itself, establish entitlement to the other.
When comparing a console or PC setup, check these four questions:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Is the platform account linked to the Activision account that contains your progression?
- Is the platform officially supported for Modern Warfare 4?
- Do you need only Warzone, or do you need the full paid Modern Warfare 4 game?
- Is the item you want an account-level progression item, a store purchase, or a platform-specific entitlement?
Current retailer prices, regional editions, inventory, and platform-specific currency restrictions are not established by Activision’s account guidance. Verify those details for your country and storefront at the time of purchase.
Why unlinking is risky
Relinking a platform account is not a merge operation. If your PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam, or Nintendo account is moved from one Activision account to another, the progression attached to the original Activision account does not follow it to the new account. Activision warns that progress will not carry over when a platform account is linked to a different Activision account.
Use this decision rule before unlinking:
- You want the existing history: keep the platform attached to the Activision account that owns that history.
- You accidentally created a second account: stop playing on it and identify the original account before changing links.
- You want a completely separate history: a second Activision account can provide separation, but progress will remain separate rather than merge later.
- You are troubleshooting a missing unlock: verify the in-game Activision identity first; do not unlink as a first response.
Before any account change, record the platform username, Activision ID, and the email address associated with the account you intend to keep. If the account screen is ambiguous, contact Activision Support rather than experimenting with repeated unlink and relink actions.

Troubleshooting shared-progression problems
The new platform starts at level one
- Close the game on the new platform.
- Open the account or registration screen and note the Activision identity shown there.
- Compare it with the identity shown on the platform where your progression is visible.
- If they differ, sign out or follow the supported account-link process to attach the platform to the original Activision account.
- Reopen the game and allow the profile to synchronize before judging whether progress is present.
Do not earn substantial progress on the wrong account while investigating; doing so makes it harder to tell which history is current.

Confirm that you are checking the same Activision account in which the other platform appears. Then verify that the platform account itself is the one you intend to use; family profiles, alternate console users, and multiple PC launchers can be easy to confuse. If the platform is not supported for the game or region, an account link alone cannot create access.
Progress appears in Modern Warfare 4 but not Warzone
First verify that both games display the same Activision account. Next check whether the item or progression is scheduled for Warzone integration. Activision’s stated Modern Warfare 4 integration begins with Season 1, so content that has not yet entered the Warzone integration period should not be treated as a linking failure.
An operator, weapon, skin, or blueprint is unavailable
Check the item’s source title and Warzone mode eligibility. The September 24, 2026 update specifically says that Operators and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 remain available in Season 1, and it adds a Modern Warfare 4 Operator filter. An item can be owned on the correct account and still be unavailable in a particular mode or interface.
You changed platforms after buying content
Separate account progression from purchase entitlement. Account-level progression can continue on linked platforms, but the available evidence does not establish universal portability for every storefront license, edition, bundle, or Call of Duty Points purchase. Check the platform store’s terms and the item’s description before assuming a purchase made on one system unlocks it everywhere.
Recommended setup for common moves
PS5 to Xbox Series X|S
Keep the Activision account used on PS5, link the Xbox profile to that same account, and verify the identity in both games before playing on Xbox. Do not create a fresh Activision account during Xbox setup.
Console to Steam or Battle.net
Link the Steam or Battle.net account to the existing Activision account before launching the PC game. Steam and Battle.net are separate platform accounts, so moving from one to the other requires each to be attached to the same Activision identity.
Xbox console to Xbox on PC
Use the same Activision account and confirm which PC launcher identity is being used. The shared account rule supports progression continuity, while the license required to access the full PC game depends on the applicable store and edition.
Adding Switch 2
Because Switch 2 availability was announced with the October 23, 2026 launch release, link the Nintendo account to the same Activision account before starting Warzone or Modern Warfare 4 there. Confirm the exact regional release and feature availability for your system.
Account hygiene that prevents future loss
- Use one Activision account as the permanent hub for your main progression.
- Keep the email address and recovery method current.
- Record which platform accounts are linked before changing hardware.
- Check the in-game identity after major updates, launcher changes, or a console profile change.
- Do not share credentials or create duplicate accounts to solve a sign-in prompt.
- Install the game from the platform edition you actually purchased; linking accounts does not replace a missing license.
These practices reduce the most common failure: playing on a correctly functioning platform account that is attached to the wrong Activision identity.
Timeline to keep in mind
| Date or period | Operational significance |
|---|---|
| October 23, 2026 | Activision’s announced global launch date for Modern Warfare 4 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC through Battle.net, Xbox on PC, and Steam, with Switch 2 availability announced. |
| Season 1 | Warzone integration of Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression begins, according to Activision. |
| September 24, 2026 update | Activision states that selected Operators, weapons, skins, and blueprints from earlier titles remain available in Warzone Season 1 and adds a Modern Warfare 4 Operator filter. |
Because launch and Season 1 are separate milestones, an account can be correctly linked before all Modern Warfare 4 content is visible in Warzone. Judge the account setup by the identity shown in both games, not by whether every future item has already appeared.
