Best Sci-Fi Horror Games to Play If You’re Interested in PRAGMATA (2026 Guide)

If PRAGMATA’s Moon setting, third-person shooting, hacking puzzles and bond between Hugh and the android Diana appeal to you, start with Dead Space (2023). It is the closest overall match for technology-driven combat inside oppressive facilities. Choose The Callisto Protocol for another hostile-moon setting, Alien: Isolation if being hunted matters more than firefights, SIGNALIS for dense puzzles and psychological horror, or SOMA for philosophical science-fiction dread.

PRAGMATA is officially a Capcom sci-fi action-adventure rather than a conventional survival-horror game. Its near-future lunar setting, spacesuit-clad protagonist Hugh, android companion Diana, and fusion of hacking and shooting place it next to horror without fitting neatly into only one genre. The recommendations below are therefore ranked by the specific part of PRAGMATA you want to carry into your next game.

What makes PRAGMATA difficult to replace

PRAGMATA takes place on the Moon in a near-future world. Hugh and Diana move through a hostile environment in spacesuits, and the game combines direct action with technological problem-solving. PlayStation describes the design as a fusion of hacking and shooting in which decisions shape each battle. That combination matters: a game can resemble PRAGMATA in camera perspective yet feel completely different if it removes puzzles, companionship or the pressure of an unknown threat.

Capcom classifies PRAGMATA as a sci-fi action-adventure. It should be treated as horror-adjacent rather than automatically grouped with survival horror. The closest alternatives consequently fall into different lanes: one recreates the industrial third-person combat, another supplies a lunar atmosphere, another makes pursuit and hiding the central challenge, and two move toward puzzle-heavy or philosophical horror.

The five closest choices at a glance

Game Perspective and combat Horror pressure Puzzles and resources Setting Narrative emphasis
Dead Space (2023) Third-person action with deliberate limb-targeting combat Continuous environmental and encounter tension Some exploration and problem-solving; combat supplies and upgrades matter Industrial spacecraft and facilities Survival mystery and technological catastrophe
The Callisto Protocol Third-person survival horror with a melee-forward combat identity Brutality, confinement and sudden threats Exploration and equipment management support the fights Callisto, Jupiter’s moon, 300 years in the future Prison survival and a hostile-world mystery
Alien: Isolation First-person stealth, improvisation and occasional tools rather than sustained gunfights Persistent pursuit by a Xenomorph Route-finding, crafting and conserving tools under pressure Spaceship and industrial station environments Survival through avoidance and investigation
SIGNALIS Top-down or close-overhead exploration with classic survival-horror encounters Psychological unease and carefully staged threats High puzzle demand, limited inventory and resource management Retro-futurist facilities and a wrecked vessel Identity, memory and the terror of the unknowable
SOMA Exploration-led science-fiction horror Oppressive atmosphere and existential dread Progression is driven more by discovery than by conventional action Underwater research complex Philosophical questions about humanity and consciousness

The table shows why no single game duplicates every part of PRAGMATA. Dead Space is the broadest match, while the other four are better targeted recommendations for a particular priority.

1. Dead Space (2023): the closest overall fit

Why it matches

Dead Space (2023) is the best first recommendation when you want third-person science-fiction horror in oppressive, engineered spaces. EA presents it as a rebuilt “sci-fi survival horror classic,” with higher visual fidelity, atmospheric audio and gameplay improvements while remaining faithful to the original vision. Those upgrades make the setting feel active rather than decorative: machinery, lighting and sound all contribute to the danger around the player.

The combat is deliberate rather than a simple run-and-gun system. Focusing on specific body parts gives encounters a tactical rhythm, and the need to read an enemy’s condition keeps every fight connected to the environment and your available equipment. That emphasis on technology, controlled aim and pressure inside industrial corridors is the strongest parallel to PRAGMATA’s action-and-hacking identity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where it differs

Dead Space is more firmly survival horror. Its mood is darker, its threats are more overtly monstrous, and its story is centered on surviving a catastrophic facility rather than on a partnership like Hugh and Diana’s. You should expect sustained fear and resource decisions, not the same balance of companion interaction and puzzle-combat transitions promised by PRAGMATA.

Choose it if

  • You want third-person combat before any other feature.
  • Industrial interiors, machinery and claustrophobic corridors are part of the appeal.
  • You prefer a modern presentation with stronger audio-visual atmosphere.
  • You want horror that remains present during exploration, not only in scripted scenes.

2. The Callisto Protocol: the closest lunar-setting alternative

Why it matches

The Callisto Protocol is set 300 years in the future on Callisto, Jupiter’s moon. That makes it the most direct setting match for anyone asking, “Which game is closest to PRAGMATA’s lunar atmosphere?” It also uses a third-person camera and places the player in enclosed, prison-like corridors where the architecture constantly reinforces confinement.

Its horror identity is built around brutality and proximity. Combat leans more heavily toward melee than PRAGMATA’s hacking-and-shooting concept, so encounters feel physical and punishing. The result is a cinematic survival-horror experience in which getting close to an enemy is often unavoidable, rather than a technology puzzle that can be solved from a safer distance.

Where it differs

Callisto’s moon is not PRAGMATA’s Moon. The settings share a category, but the tone is more focused on imprisonment, bodily danger and grim corridor fights. If your favorite part of PRAGMATA is manipulating systems or combining software actions with gunplay, this game will feel heavier and less puzzle-oriented.

Choose it if

  • A hostile moon matters more than a specific combat system.
  • You want third-person survival horror with close-quarters encounters.
  • You enjoy prison-like layouts and a deliberately brutal tone.
  • You are comfortable with a game that makes confinement part of its identity.

3. Alien: Isolation: the stealth-and-pursuit choice

Why it matches

Alien: Isolation is the recommendation for players who want to feel hunted. Its central threat is a Xenomorph, and the experience is organized around exposure, sound, hiding, movement and improvisation. Rather than clearing every room through continuous firefights, you study routes, decide when to move and accept that a loud or careless action can bring the threat toward you.

That structure provides a different version of PRAGMATA’s human-versus-unknown tension. Technology remains useful, but tools are valuable because they help you understand or evade danger. The fear comes from uncertainty: you may know that the Xenomorph is nearby without knowing exactly where it will appear or whether your hiding place is safe.

Where it differs

This is a first-person stealth game, not a third-person action game. Its defining loop is avoidance and survival, so anyone seeking frequent shooting or a combat-forward pace should begin with Dead Space instead. The original’s “deadly tension” and Xenomorph-centered design are the reason to choose it, not a similarity in camera or weapon handling.

Choose it if

  • You want pursuit to be the main source of horror.
  • Sound, line of sight and hiding interest you more than upgrading weapons.
  • You prefer improvising around an intelligent threat instead of defeating waves of enemies.
  • You want a slower, nerve-wracking pace in a science-fiction environment.

4. SIGNALIS: puzzles, retro style and psychological horror

Why it matches

SIGNALIS is the strongest choice when the puzzle side of PRAGMATA interests you most. Nintendo describes classic survival-horror gameplay and a science-fiction story concerned with identity, memory and the terror of the unknown and unknowable. You play as Elster, who awakens in a wrecked vessel and must explore a retro-futurist world where information is often as important as ammunition.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its presentation is deliberately retro, and its structure rewards careful observation. Limited inventory space forces decisions about what to carry, while exploration and item use connect separate rooms and clues. The resulting tension is less about constant action and more about whether you have understood a location, preserved the right resource and recognized what a strange detail means.

Where it differs

SIGNALIS is a very different pace from PRAGMATA’s advertised action. Encounters are not designed around a modern third-person spectacle, and its compact presentation can feel austere after a cinematic game. The trade-off is a denser psychological experience in which identity and memory are not background themes but part of how the mystery is understood.

Choose it if

  • Puzzles and inventory decisions are as important to you as combat.
  • You enjoy retro presentation and deliberate exploration.
  • You want horror built around identity, memory and ambiguity.
  • You prefer a compact, resource-conscious survival-horror structure.

5. SOMA: narrative-first existential dread

Why it matches

SOMA is the slowest and most idea-driven recommendation here. The official SOMA site identifies the game and its developer, while its placement in this list reflects its role as a philosophical science-fiction horror experience set around an underwater research complex. The environment is oppressive because discovery itself becomes unsettling; the questions raised by the setting matter as much as immediate physical danger.

Choose SOMA when your priority is a story that examines what makes a person human and how technology changes that question. Its horror is less about reproducing PRAGMATA’s shooting-and-hacking rhythm and more about exploration, implication and the discomfort of confronting possibilities you cannot easily resolve.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where it differs

SOMA should not be treated as a direct mechanical substitute. The available official description does not establish a complete set of current platforms, editions or detailed systems in the material used for this guide, so check the store page for the version available in your region. Expect a narrative-led experience rather than a third-person action game with a companion-focused combat loop.

Choose it if

  • You want philosophical questions and atmosphere ahead of action.
  • An underwater research setting appeals more than a lunar facility.
  • You prefer investigating an unsettling world at your own pace.
  • You are willing to trade combat similarity for existential horror.

Which game should you play after PRAGMATA?

If you want the closest complete package

Start with Dead Space (2023). It combines third-person science-fiction combat, engineered facilities, technology-driven problem-solving and sustained horror pressure more convincingly than any other recommendation.

If the Moon is the deciding factor

Pick The Callisto Protocol. Its setting is Callisto rather than Earth’s Moon, but it is the clearest alternative for a future lunar environment, enclosed corridors and a hostile installation.

If hacking and systems matter more than shooting

Choose SIGNALIS. It does not reproduce PRAGMATA’s interface or action design, yet it offers the strongest emphasis on puzzles, clues, inventory choices and the relationship between technology and identity.

If you want to be hunted

Choose Alien: Isolation. It replaces PRAGMATA’s active combat decisions with stealth, sound management and route planning under pursuit.

If you want the most thoughtful, unsettling story

Choose SOMA. It is the least similar in action terms but the best fit for readers who want science-fiction horror to linger as an idea after the game ends.

A practical order for playing all five

  1. Dead Space (2023): begin with the broadest third-person match and the clearest industrial science-fiction horror.
  2. The Callisto Protocol: move to another future-moon setting while accepting a more melee-focused combat style.
  3. Alien: Isolation: change the rhythm from fighting to evasion and learn how pursuit changes the meaning of every room.
  4. SIGNALIS: slow down for inventory pressure, puzzles and a retro psychological structure.
  5. SOMA: finish with the most narrative-first and philosophical interpretation of science-fiction horror.

This order is not a quality ranking beyond the stated fit. It simply moves from PRAGMATA’s closest broad match toward increasingly specialized interpretations of horror.

What to check before buying

Platform availability, physical editions, prices and stock can change by region and date. Confirm the current storefront listing for your platform before purchasing, especially for physical Nintendo Switch copies of SIGNALIS and any console edition you are considering. The recommendations above are based on design and setting, not on a claim that every game is available on every system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also check your tolerance for each game’s pressure style. Dead Space and The Callisto Protocol keep danger closely tied to combat. Alien: Isolation can make a single detected movement more consequential than a full firefight. SIGNALIS asks you to remember clues and manage a limited inventory. SOMA prioritizes atmosphere and ideas over an action-heavy loop. Matching that pressure style to your preference will matter more than choosing by setting alone.

How PRAGMATA’s release context changes the comparison

Capcom reported that PRAGMATA released on April 17, 2026, and that worldwide sales surpassed one million units in two days. Those figures establish the game’s release timing and early commercial reach, but they do not make it a conventional survival-horror title. The useful comparison remains its design: a near-future lunar adventure where shooting and hacking are intended to work together, with Hugh and Diana at the center.

That is why the five recommendations are deliberately varied. Dead Space answers the third-person technology-and-facility question. The Callisto Protocol answers the future-moon question. Alien: Isolation answers the hunted-by-the-unknown question. SIGNALIS answers the puzzle-and-memory question. SOMA answers the philosophical-horror question. Select the one that matches the element of PRAGMATA you actually want more of, rather than expecting any single game to reproduce all of it.
