Samsung’s current support listing marks it as ready for Galaxy AI, as it does the Galaxy S26, S26+, the S25 family and the S24 family. You do not need an S26 Ultra simply to get Galaxy AI, however: the right model depends on whether you need translated calls, face-to-face interpreting, message assistance, notes or web-page summaries.
Language support is feature-specific. Samsung lists 41 languages for Writing Assist as of July 2026, while Call Assist, Note Assist, Interpreter and Transcript Assist were listed at 22 languages on that page. A 14 October 2026 Samsung newsroom update added Hungarian and Malay to those translation, transcription and summarisation features, bringing Live Translate to 24 languages. Device, software, carrier and regional availability can still change what you see.

Which Samsung phone is best for Galaxy AI language features?
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the safest single recommendation because it appears on Samsung’s current Galaxy AI-ready device list and offers the broadest current flagship hardware context for using every supported language feature. It is not a requirement for translation. Samsung also lists the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, the Galaxy S25 family and the Galaxy S24 family as ready for Galaxy AI.
If you already own a Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22 or one of Samsung’s selected foldable models, Galaxy AI may still be available after a required software update. Samsung cautions that the exact feature set depends on the model, operating-system or One UI version, carrier and country or region. Check the support status for the exact phone and software build rather than relying on the family name alone.

“Ready for Galaxy AI” does not mean every Galaxy AI function supports every language. It means Samsung identifies the device as supported; the language list is controlled separately for each feature.
What Galaxy AI language features actually do
Choose the phone by the task you need to translate. Samsung groups several tools under Galaxy AI, but they do different jobs and can have different language lists.
Live Translate and Call Assist for phone calls
Live Translate translates a phone conversation in real time. Call Assist is the broader call feature that includes Live Translate. It is the relevant choice if you need to speak with someone who uses another language during an ordinary phone call, rather than exchanging text after the call.

Samsung’s 14 October 2026 newsroom update says Hungarian and Malay were added to Call Assist and related translation, transcription and summarisation features. The update brings Live Translate to 24 languages. The exact languages offered to you can depend on the phone’s region, software and downloaded language packs.
Interpreter for face-to-face conversations
Interpreter is designed for an in-person conversation. Samsung describes real-time speech translation with translated text displayed on the Galaxy phone. With compatible Galaxy Buds, the translated speech can be routed to the earbuds for listening in your own language while the text remains visible on the phone. This is the feature to prioritise for travel, reception desks, shops or two people sharing a screen.
Interpreter is not interchangeable with Live Translate: one handles a face-to-face exchange, while the other is for a phone call. Both use feature-specific language support, so test the two languages you need before travelling.

Writing Assist and Chat Assist for messages
Writing Assist (also called Chat Assist in some Samsung descriptions) works on supported text. It can translate messages, adjust tone, offer suggested replies and provide proofreading. Samsung’s July 2026 Galaxy AI page states that Writing Assist supports 41 languages as of that month. That count is not a universal Galaxy AI language count; it applies to Writing Assist and is separate from the smaller list for call, interpreting, notes and transcript tools.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Use this feature when your main problem is composing or understanding messages. It can be more useful than a call translator for bilingual work chats, customer replies or social messages, but generated suggestions can vary in quality and should be checked before sending.
Note Assist and Transcript Assist for recorded or written content
Note Assist can summarise and translate supported notes. Transcript Assist can transcribe, summarise and translate supported recordings or transcripts. Samsung listed both among the features with 22 supported languages on its July 2026 page and later announced the Hungarian and Malay expansion. Availability can depend on the app, file type and language pack as well as the phone.
These tools are for turning longer content into something readable: a meeting transcript, lecture notes or a voice recording. They are not a guarantee that every accent, speaker or technical term will be transcribed correctly.
Browsing Assist for webpages
Browsing Assist can summarise and translate webpages on supported devices. It is useful when the information you need is online rather than in a call or message. Because support is device- and software-dependent, confirm that your browser and Galaxy AI build expose the feature before planning to rely on it.
How many languages does Samsung Galaxy AI support?
There is no single number that applies to every Galaxy AI feature. Samsung’s published counts are tied to named tools and dates.

| Live Translate | 24 languages | After Hungarian and Malay were added in Samsung’s 14 October 2026 newsroom update |
The table should be read as three different measurements, not as a ranking of phones. A handset listed as Galaxy AI-ready may support Writing Assist in more languages than Interpreter, and Interpreter may support a different set from Browsing Assist. Samsung can also add languages through software updates.
Why language counts differ
- Each feature has its own translation, transcription or text-generation model and therefore its own supported-language list.
- Samsung may add a language to one feature before adding it to another.
- Some languages require a downloadable language pack; without it, the option may not appear or may not work offline.
- Country or region, carrier configuration and One UI version can change availability.
Before buying, write down the exact source and target languages you need and check them against the feature you plan to use. “Supports Galaxy AI languages” is too broad a question to answer with one phone-wide number.
Which phone should you choose for each use case?
For the broadest, least-complicated recommendation
Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung lists it as ready for Galaxy AI, and it is the clearest current flagship answer when you want to use calls, Interpreter, Writing Assist, notes and web tools from one device. This recommendation is about support clarity, not a claim that the Ultra has a larger language list than every other supported Galaxy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor Live Translate calls without needing the Ultra
Choose a Galaxy S26, S26+, S25-family or S24-family model that Samsung lists as ready, provided the exact model is sold and supported in your region. Live Translate depends on the language pair and software, so confirm those details before purchase. An S26 Ultra is not required solely to translate calls.
For face-to-face translation with Galaxy Buds
Choose any Galaxy AI-ready model that supports Interpreter in your region, then confirm compatibility with your Galaxy Buds model and the required software. Interpreter can show translated text on the phone while translated speech is routed to the earbuds. The phone, earbuds and language pack all need to be prepared before the conversation.
For multilingual messaging
Writing Assist is the deciding feature. Samsung lists 41 supported languages for Writing Assist as of July 2026, which is a larger published count than the 22-language list Samsung gave for Call Assist, Note Assist, Interpreter and Transcript Assist at that time. Pick the supported Galaxy model that fits your budget and size preference, then verify your language in Writing Assist rather than assuming call-translation support.

For an existing older Galaxy
Do not replace an S23, S22 or selected foldable automatically. First install the latest software offered for the exact model, check whether Galaxy AI appears, and verify the individual features and languages. Samsung specifically says these older groups require software updates for Galaxy AI; update eligibility and carrier timing can differ.
How to prepare a Galaxy phone for translation
- Update the phone. Install the latest operating-system or One UI update available for your exact model. Older S23, S22 and selected foldable devices need an update before Galaxy AI can be available.
- Sign in and open Galaxy AI settings. Look for the Galaxy AI controls in Settings and review the feature availability shown for your device. Menu wording can vary by One UI version and region.
- Download required language packs. Install the source and target languages requested by Live Translate, Interpreter, Writing Assist, Note Assist or Transcript Assist. A language appearing in Samsung’s published list does not remove the need for its pack on your phone.
- Test the exact feature and language pair. Place a short test call for Live Translate, start a two-person Interpreter session, or translate a sample message. Test both directions if you need two-way conversation.
- Prepare accessories. For the Galaxy Buds Interpreter workflow, pair the earbuds, install their available updates and confirm that translated audio reaches the intended wearer while text appears on the phone.
- Choose processing privacy. Samsung distinguishes on-device functions from cloud-based functions and provides a setting to restrict processing to the device. Enable the device-only option if it is available for the feature you are using, understanding that some functions may require cloud processing or lose capabilities.
On-device versus cloud processing
Galaxy AI is not processed in one uniform way. Samsung says some functions run on the phone while others are cloud-based. The distinction matters if you are translating private conversations, handling work material or travelling without dependable data service.
- On-device processing: can help limit data leaving the phone and may be useful when connectivity is poor, but the available functions depend on the model and language pack.
- Cloud-based processing: may be required for particular translation, summarisation or generation tasks and can depend on an internet connection.
- Device-only control: Samsung provides a setting to restrict processing to the device. Review the per-feature behavior after enabling it; a control that applies to one Galaxy AI tool may not make every tool offline.
Do not promise a completely offline translator merely because a phone is Galaxy AI-ready. Confirm the network and processing requirements for the specific feature before using it for a sensitive or time-critical conversation.
Common problems and how to fix them
The feature is missing
Check the exact model, install the latest One UI update, restart the phone and look again in the relevant app. If you have an S23, S22 or selected foldable, Samsung requires a software update for Galaxy AI. Carrier or regional firmware can delay or limit the feature.
Your language is not listed
Check the feature-specific list, not the general Galaxy AI page. Writing Assist’s 41-language count does not mean Interpreter or Live Translate supports the same 41. Download the required language pack and verify the source and target language separately.

Translation works in messages but not calls
This is expected when the language is supported by Writing Assist but not by Call Assist, or when Call Assist has not been enabled for your region or software build. Test a supported call language pair and check for updates.

It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Interpreter audio does not reach Galaxy Buds
Confirm that the earbuds are paired to the same Galaxy phone, that the required software is installed and that Interpreter is the active mode. The translated text should still appear on the phone; audio routing is an additional accessory workflow.
Results are inaccurate or awkward
Samsung warns implicitly through its feature limitations that generated suggestions and translations can vary in quality. Speak in short, clear turns, avoid slang when accuracy matters, review translated messages before sending and confirm important names, numbers and instructions with the other person.
The phone asks for internet access
Some Galaxy AI functions are cloud-based. If you need device-only processing, enable Samsung’s device-only processing setting where supported, then check whether the specific tool remains available. Otherwise provide a reliable connection and avoid assuming that every language pack enables offline use.
Do you need an S26 Ultra for Galaxy AI?
No. Samsung lists the Galaxy S26, S26+, S25 family and S24 family as Galaxy AI-ready alongside the S26 Ultra. The Ultra is the clearest overall recommendation because it is Samsung’s current top-end choice in the support listing, but the deciding factors for language work are the feature, language pair, software version, region and processing requirements. Buy the Ultra for the phone itself; do not buy it solely to unlock Galaxy AI.
Bottom line for language-focused buyers
Pick the Galaxy S26 Ultra if you want the most straightforward current Galaxy AI recommendation. Pick an S26, S26+, S25-family or S24-family phone if it supports your required feature and language pair. Existing S23, S22 and selected foldable owners should update first and verify support before replacing the phone. Above all, treat Samsung’s language counts as feature-specific: 41 languages for Writing Assist as of July 2026, 22 for several call, note, interpreter and transcript tools on that page, and 24 for Live Translate after the October 2026 expansion.
